Y/n's POV
As a librarian, I had to know every single books in the school's library. Especially when I'm about to graduate.
For me, a library is a sanctuary. It's where every single masterpiece is gathered into one place. Being a librarian will always be something I enjoy.
Okay, so when I said I had to know all books in my school's library, I mean literally everything. Including those books from the top shelf I never could reach. And they say we don't need a ladder.
There was this one Shakespeare book I've been eyeing, but it was on the top shelf. So a few days in the library I tried to reach the book during my shift in the library.
It was the fourth day of my attempt on taking the book. I jumped and jumped, being the most stupid person in the library when I'm the librarian.
Just when I thought I reached it, I accidentally grabbed the book next to it, sending the books next to it falling down, one of them hit me on the head. Unfortunately, the book I wanted didn't fall.
"Damn, you're playing hard to get now, huh?" I mumbled to myself. I started picking up the books from the floor. If books are hard to take, it will be harder to put it back. Ugh, could this day get any worse?
"Here, let me help." a voice called out in a sudden, helping hands came along with it.
"Thanks... Wait, Soobin?" I startled as I saw who gave those helping hands.
Soobin, as in the captain of our football team, the smartest and kindest boy in our grade, the most popular person I know, and the boy I've been crushing on way before he was popular.
"Yeah... Surprised?" he smirked.
"No, it's just... I've never seen you in this library..."
"Maybe if you come to this section more often, you'd see me." he smirked.
"Oh... Wait, you read?" that startled me.
"Yeap. Not a lot of people know... It's just a hobby of mine."
And in that moment, I just realized we stopped picking up the books. And everything went awkward.
"Uhh, I should..."
"Yeah, the books..."
We chuckled as we talked at the same time. God, it's nice talking to him...
"So, which book you want to take?" he asked as he put the books back to the shelf.
I pointed the book that caused all this.
"Th-thanks..." I thanked him and went to another section with the book in my hands.
As soon as he was out of my sight, I gasped for air. I blushed and smiled, thinking about what just happened. I talked to Soobin.
Then I continued on my shift as soon as I calmed down, borrowing the book Soobin took for me from the top shelf. I'd definitely be enjoying the book.
_
It was the regular meeting for the librarians we have every 3 months. We have these meetings to welcome new librarians and to change our shifts. I wonder who'd be the new librarian...
"Okay everyone, attention please!" Ms. Lim, the PIC for the school's library, shouted for our attention. Time for the meeting.
"As you all know, I'll be changing your shifts in this library. And today, I'll also be introducing you the student that will be our new librarian!"
A figure came inside the library. When I got a clear look of the face, I was shocked. And judging by the other's faces, they were too.
"Meet Soobin, our new librarian."
"Hi everyone! I'll be looking forward to doing shifts with you!" he enthusiastically greeted, smiling like a dork. Then he took a seat on the table across mine. He was kind of blocking my sight since he's...tall.
"Okay, so here's the shift. Read it. This schedule will start tomorrow. Thank you." she declared, then went outside the library.
All the students stood up from their seats and went over to the librarian's desk to see their shifts. Some cheered, some groaned. Me and Soobin stood up last, both of us not wanting to be involved in the crowd.
When the students started to go home and wrapping things up, me and Soobin walked up to the desk, and my eyes widened.
We were on the same shift. And I had to go home late for it.
"Well, I hope we'd get along." he cheered, smiling at me.
"Y-yeah, me too."
"I hope you'll teach me though, I'm gonna be needing a lot of help..." he looked down to his feet.
"Hey hey, of course I'll help you!" I chuckled at his expression.
"Thanks! I'll see you tomorrow, then." he waved at me as he started to walk away.
"Yeap, see ya!" I waved back.
That day felt like a dream come true. I came home with a big smile on my face.
_
As soon as the bell rang, I quickly walked towards the library, excited to meet him.
When I saw the door of the library, I jogged there. Then unexpectedly, I bumped into someone.
"Woa- Sorry!" I said in shock.
"It's okay." he replied.
When I looked up, I saw Soobin staring at me. With no idea what to say, I just stood there in silence, staring at him and him staring at me.
God, he smells so good...
"Nice form of greeting, by the way..." he hesitantly interrupted, looking at my hands that were on his chest.
"Oh my god, I'm sorry!" I panicked in realisation, quickly backing away from him.
"I-it's fine... Uh, y-y/n?"
"Hmm?"
"We should go inside for our shift..." he reminded.
"Oh, yeah! Let's go!" I rushed inside, not looking at him.
Geez, what just happened?
_
It was almost time for me to go home. Soobin was busy arranging the books, and I got stuck on desk.
I checked the time on my watch. Finally...
I was wrapping up, and I was looking for Soobin to tell him our shift was over, but I can't seem to find him anywhere. So I just went, not about to get involved in another awkward scene. I had enough of those that day.
Soobin POV
God, what happened?
My heart was fluttering. I couldn't speak properly. My face felt like as if I just got hit.
What is this feeling?
I never felt like this before. So why now?
I kept on asking myself that question as I did my work. Thankfully, I didn't have to ask y/n for help. I just had to figure out what happened.
It was a minute until the shift's up. I've been avoiding y/n, doing my work at the section she rarely goes to, and I'm gonna do that again.
I quickly took my bags behind the desk and went away quietly, not alarming y/n.
But when I got outside, I stopped walking, hesitantly. Should I let her be? This late night?
A girl wandering around this late night? It's dangerous...
Instinctively, I stayed. I waited for her outside the gates, knowing she'd come to this direction.
As soon as I saw her, I quickly approached her.
"Y/n! Hey!"
"H-hey... I thought you went home already..." she turned and faced me.
"Well, it's not safe for you to walk home alone at such a late hour..." I replied.
She quickly understood.
"But, where do you live? I feel bad if it's in the opposite direction." she asked.
"Nah, don't worry about that. I'm perfectly capable on going home, even if it's far away."
She chuckled, then she started walking without saying a word. I took that as a yes.
I followed her, jogging up to her so I could walk next to her.
"So, are you enjoying that book?" I asked, pointing to the book she's holding.
"So far, yeap. Thanks to you, I guess..."
"Huh?" I got confused.
"What, you forgot? This is the book you helped me took from that top shelf." she smiled.
"Oh? Well, glad I helped." I smiled back.
We walked in silence for a moment. It was a nice silence that I always enjoyed.
"Soobin, answer me honestly." she suddenly blurted.
"Uh... Okay, sure."
"Where do you live?" she shot, facing me.
"Actually, it's in this direction too..."
"Wait, what's your address?"
"Are you gonna stalk me?" I dodged her question, teasing her.
"N-no!" she turned her face away. Yeap, she's blushing.
"Chill, I'm just kidding." I said, calming her down. It was funny teasing her.
"W-well, I-i don't need to know anyways, thanks" she stammered, still looking away from me.
"I'll tell you."
"Wh-what? No, it's okay, Soobin. You don't have to tell me." she clarified, her cheeks still red.
"Really?" I smirked.
"Yes!" she yelled.
Then we stopped talking.
"Oh, we're here..." she suddenly said.
"Okay."
"Soobin, if you're house is far away from here, you don't have to accompany me tomorrow..." she turned to me, looking me in the eyes. Wait, is she...sad?
"Y/n, don't worry, it's near." I reassured.
Her eyes lit up after what I said, an ear-to-ear smile plastered on her face.
"So, I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Yeah, see you tomorrow!" she said, slowly walking backwards towards her house while saying that, facing me. Then she quickly looked away, jogging happily to the door.
"Aw, cute." I chuckled to myself.
Then I started walking home, still looking at her house. Y/n, tell me... What's this...feeling?
_
All night I couldn't sleep. I moved, trying to find a comfortable position to sleep on my bed, but it didn't work. I was too excited to meet her tomorrow.
But why am I excited?
I couldn't stop thinking about how she blushed at my tease, how she chuckled at what I said, how she jogged happily like a child.
Y/n, what are you doing to me?
The thought of her made my heartbeat go faster, making my cheeks flaming red.
And soon I figured it out. And it was scary to admit.
Y/n is my first love.
I instantly panicked at the thought. But deep down, I knew it was true.
Y/n's POV
OMG, OMG, OMG...
When I got inside, I instantly freaked out.
Did he just...walked me home?
But what he said was true. It wasn't safe for me to go home alone at night.
Well, at least he's going to accompany me again tomorrow... And the certainty of seeing him again made me happy.
_
My annoying alarm woke me from my peaceful sleep. School.
Soobin.
The thought of him made me more energetic in going through the day. Well, people do feel energetic when they're in love, right?
As soon as school ended, I quickly grabbed my stuff and headed to the library.
The library was more crowded than usual. More students were there, giggling and reading. Wow, this is a rare sight...
Confused, I looked for Soobin. I bet he knew what was going on.
When I went to the section he often goes to, he had stacks of books around him. And every time someone passes by, he quickly hid his face. I got more confused.
"Soobin!" I whispered loudly. "Soobin!"
He looked at me as soon as he heard me. Gosh, he's cute...
I shrugged at him, looking madly confused. "What's going on?" I mouthed at him.
He gestured me to come to him. "Don't let anyone see you." he mouthed back. I got more confused.
"Soobin, what's going on?" I asked, demanding for an answer as I sat next to him.
"I don't know how, but they know that I work here. And now they're just stalking me everywhere I go. It sucks." he pouted. I chuckled softly.
"Oh, so it's funny?" he got kind of offended.
"Okay, I get it. I'll cover for you." I said, stood up and walked away before he could reply.
I pretended that I just got there, putting my stuff on the desk and all. As expected, girls from my grade approached me there.
"Hey, y/n! I want to borrow a book. Do you mind recommending me one?" she innocently asked.
"I never saw you read." I fired, tired of her acting.
"Well, I heard Soobin works here with you, and I want to read now. Is that wrong?"
"What's wrong is the information. I don't work with him."
"But the others said so..." she denied the fact, starting to look disappointed.
"Well, they're wrong. I heard he works here every Saturday morning though. Hope that helps." I lied, smiling at her, She doesn't seem to notice.
"Oh, okay. Thanks, y/n!" she went, approaching her friends that looked disappointed at what she was saying. Then they all left, clearly not satisfied. I sighed in relief.
I went to the section again. "Soobin, they're gone." I peered over him.
"Oh my god, thank you so much y/n!" he stood up as he said that. Then he hugged me in joy.
Awkwardly, I hugged him back. I was still digesting what he was doing. Before I knew it, he released me, than smiled at me before he left to do something else.
My heart was fluttering so bad, butterflies in my stomach starting to make me nauseous.
Soobin...
_
The shift was over. It was his turn on desk. So I approached him.
"Hey, shift's over. You're accompanying me again right?" I cheerfully said.
"Yeap. But wait, I need help with the catalog..." he scratched his head, looking at me with confusion.
He pointed at the book at the same time I did. Our hands brushed, sending electricity down my hands.
"Uhh, this one shows the initials of the author, this one's the genre, and this one's the...the..." my mind suddenly went blank of the thought that my hands touched his.
"The section?" he helped.
"Y-yeah..."
"Okay, thanks y/n! Now, let's go home!" he said, grabbing his stuff. I chuckled, excited at the fact that we're walking together home again.
_
This went on for a couple of days. And every time we just get more and more closer than before. I felt like I've known him for years. I wondered if he felt the same.
I thought so as I returned the borrowed book in its place. And all of a sudden, the noise of books falling interrupted my thoughts. I quickly ran towards the voice. It was from the section Soobin liked.
"Hi there, y/n." the girl that asked me the other day greeted, but her face was now meaner.
"Or should I say...liar?" she did a mean laugh, along with some girls behind her.
I got slightly offended by her words.
"Wh-who are you to say that?!" I yelled quietly, aware of where we are.
"I'm Karen. And I can say anything I want, y/n." she emphasised my name as she stepped closer.
"I know you lied so you could be alone with Soobin."
"Look, y/n. I'm not gonna lie, but Soobin's all mine. If you dare spend another alone time with him, I'll spread a lie about you, how about that?" she threatened. So this was her true color.
"What's going on here?" Soobin suddenly appeared, looking at the mess they made.
"Soobin oppa~ she dropped all the books! I tried to help her, but she wants your help..." she flirted. The other girls agreed with her, nodding.
"I-is it true?" Soobin asked, actually believing what she said. I just stared at him in disbelief.
"Y/n-"
"Leave me alone." I cut, quickly getting away from the scene.
How could he trust her more than me?
_
I tried my best to avoid him. I looked away when I see him in the hallways, and I never talked to him during our shift in the library.
"Y/n"
"Y/n"
"Y/n, please talk to me."
"Why would I? You trusted her more than me." I banged my books on the desk.
"Soobin oppa, can we talk?" Karen suddenly appeared and put her hands on his chest. My blood boiled because of this, so I quickly walked away before I could do any damage.
"Y/n wait!" I heard him call out. I ignored him and kept on walking, until I was outside the library. I decided to take a walk to calm down.
_
(3rd person POV)
"Soobin oppa, are you even listening to me?" Karen whined, still touchy with him.
"Yeah, let's talk." Soobin frowned, walked towards the section he liked. Karen followed.
"Soobin, I want you to have this..." she sweetly said, smiling at his back. He turned to face her.
"What did you say to her?" Soobin asked her, anger start to boil in him.
"Soobin, I-"
"What! Did you say?" he angrily yelled, his face red.
"I-i just said don't lie for her own benefit..." she stuttered, shocked at Soobin's anger.
"Wow, you're so dumb, huh? I asked her to do that so YOU'd stop bothering me." his eyes wide.
"S-sorry..." she sobbed, and ran away.
Soobin took a deep breath. He was so angry he felt like he could explode.
Y/n, I deeply care about you, you know?
He sighed. He looked around the section, and all of a sudden, an idea popped in his head.
_
Y/n was back from her walk. She knew Soobin wouldn't be in his desk, so she sat down there.
Then something caught her eye. A book was laying down there, with a paper sticking out of its pages. That was weird.
She opened it to find a note.
"Read the synopsis. -Soobin-"
As much as she didn't want to read it, curiosity overcomed her.
"Love full of misunderstanding that started in front of the school gates..."
Her heart suddenly sank. He...loves me?
She quickly ran towards the gates, knowing what he was trying to say.
It was sunset after rain. It was a beautiful scenery. She caught eyes on Soobin that was enjoying the scene.
"Soobin!" she shouted at him. He turned around, genuine sadness in his eyes.
"Y/n... I'm really sorry..." he held her shoulder, then looked down at his feet.
"You... love me?"
"Y-yeah... The first one, in fact." he looked up.
"Y/n, I'm really sorry... I should've never listened to her. You did a lot for me, and that was what you got. And... I should've told you earlier about my feelings." he started to blush.
"Hey, I was wrong too. I should've talked about what happened to you... You deserve the truth." she sighed.
Soobin tilted his head in confusion.
"Karen threatened me that she'd spread rumors if I spent more time with you. I was...scared. I actually thought that you'd want to be with her, and I couldn't face the fact. I'm sorry..." she started to cry.
"Hey hey, don't cry." he quickly cupped his hand on her cheeks, wiping her tears.
"I...I love you too, Soobin. And I don't want to lose you again."
Soobin's eyes widened at her words. Then his face softened.
"You won't. I promise." he gently said, pulling her to a hug. He could feel her smile in his arms.
Then surprisingly, she pushed him away.
"Is that all you got?" she teased. She pulled him into a deep, passionate kiss.
When they pulled away, they both blushed, knowing what the future holds for the two of them.
