The chirping of birds is supposed to be relaxing, is it not? It's supposed to make you happy as you stroll around the green park and lift your hand for the butterfly to poise. It's supposed to symbolize great days but at that moment India Mikaelson just wanted to strangle those chirping birds.
India was hunched over a desk in one of the top floor classrooms of the Hecate School of the Supernatural trying to get her brain to work as she attempted to write her essay. But the damned birds (or at least the focus of India's anger) would not shut up and a headache was starting to form. For the last half an hour she had been trying hard and pulling at every string in her brain for another sentence to add to her already existing ones.
The essay on Origin of Vampires was supposed to be at least over a thousand words and she could not pass the thirty-word mark. Maybe it was because she didn't care or because she loathed school, but she knew the main reason was that she already knew. She had started learning about the Origin of Vampires since birth — she was part of said history, for the Gods' sake. Since she was little that stories were told about her family, how vampires were created by her grandma and her mother being reborn and how she met everyone. She would laugh at those stories since they were completely exaggerated and biased. However, now that she actually had to write it down (professionally) she couldn't write more than a couple of lines.
And she couldn't for the love of Hades figure out why. Why did she need to go to a school where she wouldn't learn anything new? Well, apart from the usual subjects like maths and science, of course. But, why did she have to go to school at all? She could have everything in the world and yet here she was hunched over a paper — because her computer decided to run out of battery — pen in hand and urging herself not to commit animal murder.
The door of the classroom opening was what made India look up and see the two figures coming in. Hope Mikaelson and Scarlett Salvatore, her cousins and only friends if you want to stretch it a bit further. Being the daughter of a Goddess and having everything in her reach, India had gained an ego bigger than the world — along with her brother, but that's another story — she knew she was beautiful, she knew she was powerful and clever — even if her grades didn't reflect that — and that pissed off most people. They didn't even try to approach her as they deemed her 'arrogant,' when in fact India was just overconfident. She was nice and polite, her mother raised her well — she wasn't overly spoiled (Ellie, her mother, would kill her if she turned out a brat), but she was also raised under the mindset of two cocky supernatural beings — but that was to be expected from Ellie and Kol Mikaelson. So, even if she was raised right and had limits growing up, ego and overconfidence were implied.
Hope and Scarlett approached her with amused smiles and India smiled back at them but then scowled and groaned loudly, letting her head fall on the table. The two girls laughed and approached the table.
Scarlett frowned as she reached for her paper and started to giggle when she read what India wrote. "This is literally our family history, Indy. How come you can't write more?"
Hope now looking curious read the paper over the blonde's shoulder as India gripped at her hair in frustration. "Seriousily? Vampires originated a thousand years ago. They were created by bitch grandma that then regretted her choices in life and tried to murder her kids." Hope laughed as she gave her the piece of paper back, and shook her head in amusement. "And here I was thinking dear Jamie was the dumbass in your family."
"I resent that Hope." India scowled grimacing at the thought of being dumber than her brother. "The essay is for tomorrow and I don't feel like working."
"Then take a pause," Scarlett shrugged smiling at her cousin. "Dad said Damon could have the car to practice so I need a ride home anyway."
"Which Damon?" Hope frowned and Scarlett gave her a deadpaned look.
"My brother of course! Uncle Damon has his own car, " she said rolling her eyes. Scarlett's parents had named Damon after her dad's brother and her mom's brother, bringing to the world her brother, Damon Nick Salvatore, that was one year younger and a pain in the ass.
"Can't you just apparate?" India asked her brows furrowed.
"No," said the blonde looking confused, "Don't you remember the adults blocked our magic?"
"Oh yeah. . . . I forgot, " India groaned, "Stupid James and going to Egypt. . . ."
"It was a cultural trip, Indiana!" her brother's voice was heard from the door as he and Silas Parker entered the room, throwing their backpacks in the ground next to the desk and approaching the girls.
"Cultural trip or not, now we have to obey the Harry Potter whatever magic rules, " Silas groaned as he sat down on a desk. The Harry Potter magic rules Ellie Mikaelson established for them with the help of the other adults were simple. They still didn't need a wand or to use spells but their magic had a limit. They couldn't apparate until they were twenty-one (which didn't match with the Harry Potter rules but Klaus and Stefan were keen on it), they couldn't create food out of thin air, give magic to others, they would get exhausted if they abused their magic (they were teenagers and needed boundaries).
"I like it! It makes me feel like I'm in Hogwarts!" Scarlett grinned as he sat down next to him.
"Yeah but you love Harry Potter," Hope said rolling her eyes as she took a seat next to India who was glaring at her paper — which made it catch on fire which then led James to laugh as he put it out and snatched the paper from the table, to read it himself.
"India, India, India, what in the actual fuck is this shit?"
"That is my essay for History, " India sighed and her brother laughed.
"Are you aware that bitch grandma was forced to create vampires by bastard grandad?" James asked with a smirk, "You should write that in there. Add more flare."
"More flare? Isn't the crispy scent enough?" Silas snorted and India glared at him making him shut up instantly.
"I'd so love it if we went to Hogwarts instead," Scarlett said suddenly with a dreamy sigh, and Silas groaned.
"What's with you and Harry Potter?"
"I'm a Potterhead, Silas, and I'm not ashamed of it!" Scarlett exclaimed. "Just because you morons don't like it, it's not my fault."
"You made Maia and Lizzie like it too, " Hope said and James and India groaned.
"They won't shut up about it, " James said and then put on a high-pitched voice, "Fred Weasel is so fine — I want to be as smart as Hermione whatever her name is Emma Watson!"
"They're smarter than you already and they're only thirteen," Silas snorted and James glared at him.
"I have to agree with Scar, though, " said India looking thoughtful, "from what I saw in the movies mum made us watch, Hogwarts looks like a pretty good school."
"Better than here anyway, " James nodded and then grimaced at having agreed with his sister.
"I don't know what you're problem with Hecate is," Scarlett said rolling her eyes, "It's a great school!"
"Weren't you the one saying you wanted to go to Hogwarts?" Silas raised an eyebrow at her and Scarlett shrugged.
"I said it was good, never said it was better than Hogwarts," she said, "I mean it's a freaking castle!"
"It's pretty cool, " James nodded. "We went there in the Underworld a lot. Have almost all of the passageways memorized," he said tapping his head.
"I don't like Harry Potter, " Hope said at once.
"The character?" India asked raising an eyebrow.
"I dunno. I never read or saw the whole lot of the movies. I only watched the first three I think, " Hope said scrunching up her face, "Your sister and mum made me watch them."
"Figures, " India sighed.
"Either way it's stupid. I mean how difficult is it to kill a baby?" Hope said shaking her head as the others looked at her amused, "Not that the baby dying would be good."
"Yeah, the bald guy could've just thrown him out of the window," Silas said with a grin and they had to shuffle laughs not to look insensitive.
"I wish I could go there and change everything I want to." Scarlett smiled.
"In all my dislike for it, seeing the castle wouldn't be that bad," Hope said with a nod of her head.
"I Hope we could take you guys to the Underworld," James said and then started laughing at his own joke making India groan.
"Fucking hell."
"It's fucking Underworld, sister. But seriously it would be so cool." James said, "That way we could go anywhere without mum blocking our magic for trying to leave Logan in Egypt."
"Didn't you say it was a cultural trip?" India asked narrowing her eyes at him.
"Yeah, not for me though," James shrugged, "But, Logan was supposed to stay there and learn."
"Does it actually work? Can we go to the Underworld, I mean." Hope asked skeptically.
"No, but if I imagine hard enough I think I'll be able to," James announced and India laughed at the statement.
"You don't even have a brain how are you going to imagine?" Silas asked with a smirk and James glared at him.
"Look, all I have to do is imagine all of us being transported onto Hogwarts and—" James was trying to explain his theory when a high pitched sound resonated through their heads making the five of them scream in agony, closing their eyes shut and covering their ears in an attempt to drown out the sound. It hurt like a bitch as if someone was giving them an aneurysm with witchy juju. India felt her head throb and her nerves erupt in pain like her brain was being sliced, she just wished she could pass it already and have the pain disappear. Then, suddenly everything stopped and five loud thuds of bodies hitting the stone floor were heard.
"Who the fuck made my chair disappear?" India groaned from the floor as the other four groaned from the tables they were sitting on had disappeared.
"I didn't do anything this time," James said lifting his hands in surrender and then he looked around and his jaw dropped. "Guys, I think I did it."
"Did what?" Silas asked as he stood up and looked around his brows drawing together. "Would one of you explain why we're not in school anymore?"
"Judging by our surroundings we are in a school right now," Scarlett sang simply with a grin as she too stood up and looked around the castle-like hall, with flaming torches on the wall giving their surroundings a certain reddish glow.
"I brought people to the Underworld without killing them!" James whooped.
"That's not possible JJ," India informed him getting up on the floor and dusting her clothes.
"Then where pray tell are we?" James asked giving his twin a deadpan expression. India looked around properly and her jaw dropped only making James grin smugly. "See? All we need to do is find Grandad. HADES?! YOUR FAVOURITE GRANDCHILD IS HERE!"
James started to call out to his grandad — and India huffed at the sight; James really thought he was the favorite but India knew it was her three years younger brother, Logan, after all, he was named after him. Logan Hades Mikaelson. After him it was obviously India then Maia Persephone Mikaelson (who along with Lizzie Mikaelson, Hope's half-sister from her dad's side, was the youngest of the next generation, one year younger than Logan), and lastly and really low on the scale of the favorite grandchildren was James.
As India looked around she started noticing something was off. It wasn't quiet. She could hear voices. Not the wails and cries from the souls in the Underworld that were heard when Hades forgot to put mute on. These were actual voices. And that's just not possible. Then she noticed they were in a sort of a hall — big, stony and Hogwarts — and there were two big doors in front of them. That's where the voices were coming from and that's what made her jaw drop. They weren't in the Underworld.
"James shut up, " she snapped at his brother who pointedly ignored her and continued to screech while the other three just looked amused by the siblings or were getting mesmerized by their surroundings "JAME HENRICK MIKAELSON SHUT THE FUCK UP!" She bellowed making him scowl at the full name and promptly shut up.
"What's wrong now, you berk? I brought us to the —" James started but India cut him off.
"We're not in the Underworld. You just made us —" She was about to finish her sentence having let the four others shocked by the first sentence when the big double doors opened to reveal a great hall — the Great Hall — full of children and teachers that went quiet as all their eyes zeroed in on them. Being who they are, and by that, I mean half vampires (original at that), half Gods, half witches, and even third wolf, they had a lot of confidence but at that moment their jaws were on the floor as they realized they just traveled universes. They knew Ellie, the twins' mom, could do that but James? There's no fucking way.
India and Hope were the first ones to get out of their stupor and exchanged a look having a silent conversation with their eyes then smirked and turned to the Hall. That's when India noticed a hat on a stall. She might not have been a huge Harry Potter fan but enough talks with her mom and being forced to sit and watch the movies and she knew that was the something hat that desperately needed cleaning. Which meant they were at the beginning of the year.
"How terribly rude of us. Sorry, we're late. We forgot the way and coming all the way from the US isn't as easy as it sounds." She announced making her friends snap out of it and get what she was doing. However, as India was saying this she was imagining their names appearing on whatever list they had and planting memories of them on Gandalf's head. Since she was a demigod that was actually reliable; her mom didn't need to know. She felt her head lighter when she did the spell — Gandalf was much more powerful than she was accounting for and it took some power to actually be able to get inside his mind and mix around with his head.
"No worries. We were about to eat but we can make time for another five sortings. Direct yourselves to the front if you please." Dumbledore announced making the cousins plus one exchange smirks and walk up to the front. When saying walk, it's more of a strut. Those kids weren't short of arrogance and confidence and they sure as hell showed it.
That's what caught the attention of the whole hall. That and the fact all five of them were great looking. Like really great. But they also noticed how none of them were wearing robes. Actually, most of them didn't even know what they were wearing. We can assume those were the purebloods.
The boys, James and Silas, were wearing jeans and a t-shirt with some old sneakers. Hope was wearing some black skinny jeans and a white V-neck t-shirt with converse. Scarlett was wearing white jean shorts with an oversized Bon Jovi t-shirt that used to be her father's, she paired them up with some black heels. India was wearing skinny jeans with a white tank cropped top and a pair of knee-high leather boots. The clothes weren't even normal in the muggle world. Why, you ask? Because they didn't land in Hogwarts in 2027. But they still didn't know that.
Noticing their attire with a flick of his wand Dumbledore made five black robes appear on them. Which made them all scowl and look down in disgust but otherwise just roll their eyes. "These are this year's transfer students from Ilvermory that will be joining us for their seventh year."
"Hope Mikaelson" Minerva McGonagall called making Hope smirk and walk up to the stall and sit down. The hat was placed on her head and the moment it touched her head it screamed "GRYFFINDOR" Hope might have had traits of other houses but her recklessness best everything. That and her smart mouth.
"India Mikaelson" India walked up to the stall the heels of her boots clicking behind her. She sat elegantly (for the first time ever) on the little stall and the hat was placed on her head below her eyes.
"You new people are really something, aren't you? Demigoddess? That's new. I see cunningness in you but not much ambition. I'm not surprised, you have all the time in the world. Hmmm. Although loyal and somewhat kind you do not belong among the humble Puffs. I see only one option." The hat said as India moved her leg up and down in impatience making students snort in amusement "GRYFFINDOR!"
India walked down the 'stage' and went to sit down next to her cousin on the red and gold table with a smirk on her face. She didn't know much but she sure as hell knew that she wouldn't have liked the other houses. Ambitious? Nope. Humble? Fuck no. Craving knowledge? Only on more flavors of ice cream.
"James Mikaelson" James walked up but instead of sitting down conjured up a wand (he may be reckless but he's not that stupid) and pretended to swish and flick while imagining the stall being transfigured into a barcalounger recliner. Everyone was either gaping at the nerve on him or laughing their asses off. As he sat down he realized the display of magic was unnecessary as the hat didn't even touch his head and it was screaming "GRYFFINDOR!"
"Silas Parker" Silas walked up to the front and plopped himself down on the barcalounger as the hat was put on his head.
"Curious. Your dad could be considered evil you know?" The hat asked and Silas snorted, "Your head is complicated. You could either be a Puff or a Gryffindor. You're loyal and kind but the nerve on your head beats everything." The hat said and Silas scoffed mentally flipping off the hat. "GRYFFINDOR!" Silas sat up and walked taking his seat next to James.
"Scarlett Salvatore" Scarlett smiled and sat down on the chair and the hat was placed on her head.
"Ambitious I see. Vampire. But core witch. Hmmm. But you're also kind-hearted. Brave. But not reckless. Knowledgeable but not curious. Hmm. Kind. Indeed more humble than your family. You are loyal too. Let it be..."
"HUFFLEPUFF!" Scarlett smiled waved at her cousins and one at the lion's table with a smile and walked to her place on the Hufflepuff table and sat down. Starting to chat up with the other students in order to find out exactly when they were. She was the only Potterhead in the group and she could easily tell that they weren't in 2027 by mainly looking at Dumbledore. Who was very much alive.
Scarlett smiled at the mere thought she was actually in Hogwarts and that Pottermore got her house right. She was a proud Puff. She also was amused at her cousins' placement. She could see Silas and James in it but she always thought India would be a Slytherin and Hope in Ravenclaw. But then again India didn't have many ambitions and Hope wasn't that curious.

—A/N—
That's the first chapter!
I know them all going to Gryffindor is cliche but I sorted them due to their personalities. That's why Scarlett is a Puff — she's too sweet not to be one.
If you have any doubts on who is who from the extra kids from the next generation go to CAST.
Enjoy the story!
