TWENTY-THREE•RELAX

Lita lay alone in her bed that night, thinking and wondering how she had ended up here. She and Paul had been on good terms for a while, but it had all shattered in an instant. She didn't know what to say to him. Maybe a simple message or call could have mended the break, but she continued to lie there, the quiet echo of the night trying its best to lull her to sleep.

The cold confines of her sheets offered no comfort, so when she heard the quiet sound of something hitting her window, it didn't immediately cause her to jump. Turning over, her head still glued to her pillow, she waited. There it was again—a 'click'—and again, until it caused her to lazily roll out of bed to find the source of the noise.

Pulling back her thin, sheer curtains, she saw a small pebble hit her window, causing her to jump back. Looking down, she saw the grinning faces of Jacob and Embry. Her brows furrowed as she tried to make out the words they were saying while Embry excitedly jumped up and down, waving his arms.

Lifting her window, she could finally hear the words pouring out of their mouths. "Lita!" Embry yelled. "Let us in!" Jacob yelled from below the window. Lita's brows furrowed. "What the hell, no!" she said, shutting the window.

After her window shut with a slam, the tapping didn't stop. Annoyed and disheveled, Lita roughly opened the window, feeling something hit her face. "Ow!" she yelled, voicing her pain.

"Shit, sorry!" Embry called from below. "Wouldn't have happened if you let us in!" Jacob yelled. Lita groaned. "Fine!"

Grumpily heading down the stairs, each footstep landing with a soft thump, she reached the front door to see the smiling faces of Quil, Seth, Embry, and Jacob. She raised her brow as she saw bags and pillows in their hands.

"Finally," Quil said, gently brushing past Lita and walking into the living room. "What are you guys doing here?" Lita said, rubbing her not-so-tired eyes.

"We thought you'd want some company," Jacob said with a shrug.

"Sorry for hitting you with that pebble," Embry said with an embarrassed look as he entered the house. Lita sighed. "It's alright."

"You hit Lita with a rock?" Seth said with a raised brow, entering the house with Lita closing the door behind him. "It was a pebble."

"Felt like a rock," Lita said with a groan.

"You're still alive," Jacob said with a shrug. "So I brought three options," Quil said, opening up a bag he was holding and grabbing three DVDs. He presented them to the group who made themselves comfortable on the couch, with Lita standing behind them.

"Rocky 2, The Truman Show, and Never Been Kissed."

"Never been kissed? Are you serious?" Jacob asked, giving Quil an odd look.

"Where'd you even get that DVD?" Seth asked.

"It's, um, it's like my sister's, y'know, I just found it—it's..." Quil narrowed his eyes at the boys as they laughed, fumbling for an excuse.

"I like that movie," Lita said with a shrug, causing the boys to all turn and look at her.

As the evening progressed, Lita found herself sitting on the floor of the living room, watching "Never Been Kissed" with the others. The movie played on the TV with bright colors blaring. Fed up with the rugged, uncomfortable floor, she stood up and headed to the kitchen.

Looking back over to the lounge, she saw the popcorn scattered on the floor and the abundance of snacks they had brought, all sitting on the small coffee table.

She saw Jacob get up before coming into the kitchen and giving her a kind smile. "Are you feeling alright?"

"Yeah, no, I'm good," Lita said, giving him a smile.

"No interest in the movie? We're only watching it because you like it. Well, you and Quil," Jacob said with a laugh.

Lita smiled. "I think it's sweet that he likes it," Lita said with a shrug.

"Yeah?" Jacob said with a raised brow.

Lita nodded. "Yeah."

"Well, it's not that bad..." Jacob said, making Lita laugh. "Thank you for doing this, Jacob. Sorry if I was being a dick earlier, I was just... not feeling the best."

"No, it's all good," Jacob said, looking down. "Besides, you're leaving soon. We've got to make your last days memorable."

"My whole time here has certainly been... memorable, but you guys have made it way better."

Jacob smiled bashfully. "Well, um... don't wanna miss the movie," Jacob said, pointing towards a scene of Drew Barrymore's character sitting on a Ferris wheel.

Lita nodded, heading over to the couch where Seth smiled and moved over for her. If the couch wasn't already too full, it certainly was now. Despite Embry being kind enough to share the small blanket that was once neatly folded on the couch.

"Quil, your feet stink," Seth complained as he laid his feet over Embry and leaned his back against Jacob.

"I have socks on," Quil said with a shrug.

"It's even worse that I can smell them through your socks."

"Don't be a baby," Quil said, munching loudly on his snack. As Embry and Seth attempted to complain further, Lita shushed them. "Stop, this is my favorite part," she said as they reached the ending where the main character, Josie, was waiting for her love interest, Sam.

She had a sad look on her face, waiting for Michael Vartan's character, Sam, to arrive after her big love confession in front of an entire crowd. Lita couldn't imagine the pain she was feeling. The crowd slowly sat down in defeat, watching Josie look down in disappointment. Now that was a feeling Lita could understand.

But slowly, the crowd's eyes shifted before erupting into cheers at the sight of Sam heading towards her. "It's so beautiful, man," Quil said, attempting to sniff away his tears, making Seth look towards Lita and Embry and laugh.
