"Okay, spill it. If you had to pick one for a date, who would it be?" Kim prodded, settling down beside Lita. They both leaned against the bed, where Jade immersed herself in the glowing screen of her phone, while Bailey, perched on the edge, focused on painting her nails.
Lita pondered for a moment before bluntly stating, "None of them."
"What!? Come on, there's gotta be at least one who you think's hot," Kim insisted, nudging her with a mischievous grin.
"Jacob," Bailey declared without a second thought.
"Seriously?" Lita asked, genuinely surprised.
Bailey nonchalantly shrugged. "He's jacked."
"Um no, Jared's ripped," Kim argued, prompting Jade to chuckle and Bailey to roll her eyes.
"Please, we all know your boyfriend's on steroids," Bailey retorted, causing Kim to gasp dramatically. In a swift motion, she snatched the pillow from behind Jade's head and flung it at Bailey, who effortlessly caught it, seemingly unimpressed.
"Bitch," Kim mumbled, retaliating by hurling the pillow back at her. The pillow smacked Kim in the face, and the group erupted in laughter, with even Lita joining in on the amusement.
"But seriously, Jacob?" Lita inquired further.
"He's hot."
"Uh, yeah, and younger than you," Jade said, looking up from her phone.
"And? Only by a year, and at least I didn't have a crush on Edward Cullen's dad!"
"What? Who's Edward's dad?" Lita asked, not having a face to put to the name. Jade paused for a moment before pulling up the Forks hospital website and showing a picture of a certain "Carlisle Cullen."
"Damn..." Lita mumbled to herself.
"He's just so fine," Jade said, closing her eyes with a sigh.
"Gross, he's old!" Kim interjected, which made Jade's eyes open instantly.
"Older is better than younger!" Jade exclaimed.
"Oh my god, it's not like he's a child!" Bailey defended herself before suddenly getting shushed by Kim, whose phone began to ding like crazy.
"Shit, what'd you do now?"
"Nothing!" Kim exclaimed before quickly passing the phone to Jade, who instantly smiled. "Fuck yes, finally," she said, causing Lita's brows to furrow.
"Give me that," Bailey said, snatching the phone from Jade before she too smiled. "Shit," Bailey said before showing the phone to Lita, who was met with a video of a party: flashing lights, loud music blaring, and the room packed with people.
Jade looked at the three girls who had expectant looks on their faces. "What?" she asked.
"Come on, we've gotta go!"
"To that?"
"Obviously!" Kim said with a laugh.
"I...I've never been to a party before," Jade confessed with an embarrassed look.
"Well, this will be your first time, and it'll be great!" Kim said with a shrug.
"Oh my god, I've gotta get changed!" Kim exclaimed, quickly standing up before rummaging through Jade's vanity. Bailey stood up and quickly began to do her hair.
"Come on, I'll find you something better to wear," Jade said, eyeing Lita's sweatpants and messy head of hair.
"What, I look cute like this," Lita said, flashing a smile.
"Sure... also, you gotta let me do your makeup; it's my favorite part of getting ready."
"Good with me," Lita said with a shrug. Lita felt confident as she stood in front of the mirror. Jade had fitted her in a tight blue dress with black heels, which she stumbled slightly in as she had been made to parade around the room in an attempt to get used to the unfamiliar shoes.
Her shiny silver hoops dangled as she sat on the bed, Jade in front of her doing her makeup. The silver eyeshadow contrasted with her dark dress. Jade had given the girl thick, sharp eyeliner, which enhanced her eye shape.
"You're so pretty," Jade said with a sigh.
"So are you," Lita said, making them both laugh. Jade had decided, since it was late, it'd be best for the group to go out of her second-story window, Jade's car keys jingling as the group tried to sneak out quietly.
"We're gonna die!" Kim exclaimed loudly, brushing her hair out of her face as the soft breeze grazed her.
"Shut up, my parents are sleeping!" Jade exclaimed in a whisper.
"Oh fuck off," Bailey whispered as the group reached the white gazebo that made a ladder-like shape.
"Why is the ground so far away!" Kim said with a groan.
"Just go!" Bailey said impatiently.
"Okay, okay, you're so mean..." Kim whispered to herself as she climbed down, squealing slightly as she was one step away from the ground before dropping down with a quiet scream.
"Oh my god," Bailey said with an annoyed groan, "such a pussy," she muttered as she swiftly climbed down, Kim rolling her eyes at the girl as she reached the ground.
"We're gonna be in so much shit in the morning," Lita said, thinking of what her mother would say if the group were to be caught.
"Only if we get caught," Jade said with a shrug, and slowly the two reached the ground safely, the group getting into Jade's car.
Jade, who sat in the driver's seat, tried her best to carefully twist the key. "Doing that isn't gonna make this shit any quieter."
"Shut up," Jade said before deciding to swiftly turn the keys, the bright car lights glowing against the front of her garage.
"Drive slowly or something, I don't know," Lita said with a shrug.
"Okay..." Jade said with a shaky breath before slowly touching the pedal. The car felt slower than walking.
"Oh my god..." Bailey said with a groan, face-palming her forehead with a laugh, "at this speed, we're getting nowhere."
"Fine," Jade said with a huff before swiftly going at a speed that was definitely over the speed limit.
Kim was doing some sort of weird dance move as music blasted out of the speaker as they drove down the road, the speed of Jade's car still faster than it was legally meant to be.
"Party in the USA–oh shit..." Kim said as bright police lights were behind Jade's car.
"Oh, nice going Jade," Bailey said with a groan. "What! You told me to drive faster!"
"Not over the speed limit, moron!" Bailey shot back, causing an argument to break out between the girls, only stopping when a light knock against Jade's window interrupted this.
"I'm dead..." Lita whispered to herself.
"Act natural," Kim whispered to the group. "Shut up..." Jade whispered with a false smile as she rolled down her window, a bright flashlight blaring in her eyes.
"Hey officer–"
"Are you aware of how fast you were going?"
"I– no..."
The cop rolled his eyes. "Have you been drinking tonight– Lita, is that you."
Lita's eyes widened. "Hi Charlie..." she said with an innocent smile as the man sighed loudly.
"Yes!" Bailey quietly exclaimed.
"Lita, I'm so sorry about the other night–"
"It's whatever..." Lita said, folding her arms as she felt eyes on her at Charlie's words. "I uh...I'll let you girls off with a warning, don't let me catch you speeding again," he said, and Jade quickly nodded.
"Of course, uh, have a good night," Jade said awkwardly winding her window up as he walked away.
The girls all burst out in laughter as his police car sped past. "Oh my god, are you like fucking the chief of police?" Kim exclaimed.
"Ew, what no!" Lita said with a grossed-out look.
"He's her soon-to-be stepdad, you idiot," Jade said, rolling her eyes.
"Good, cause that'd be like... illegal," Kim said with a thankful look, making Lita laugh and roll her eyes.
"Let's just get to that party and try not to speed," Bailey said, giving Jade a cheeky smile.
Loud music blared from the outside of an unfamiliar house, with bright neon lights emitting from the windows. Lita felt a nervous knot in her stomach at the unfamiliar atmosphere.
"You all good?" Bailey asked Lita as she noticed the look on her face.
"Yeah, yeah, just feeling a little nervous," she said, rubbing her hands up and down her arms in an attempt to comfort herself.
"Don't worry, we'll be with you the entire time. We can leave whenever you want," Bailey said. Her words brought a comforting feeling, causing Lita to smile.
"Thanks, Bailey," she said, earning a smile back from the girl.
"No problem, now let's go get drunk," she said, making Jade and Kim laugh as the group got out of the car.
Opening the front door, Lita was enveloped in the smell of booze and sweat, making her want to gag. "God, it stinks."
"That's the smell of fun, don't know what to tell you," Jade said with a shrug as the group made their way over to the drink table.
"I'd have more fun if it didn't smell like vomit."
"She's right; it reeks in here," Kim said as she began to open her small handbag and pulled out some perfume, excessively spraying it everywhere.
"Stop wasting it!" Jade said, grabbing the girl's hand and lowering it.
"Great, now my drink tastes like hand sanitizer," Bailey complained.
"I'm sorry...." Kim said with a sad look.
"Sorry for what, babe?" Jared asked as he put his arms on the front of the girl, causing her sad look to disappear, forming into a smile as she turned around and hugged him back, his arms now resting on her back.
"She's clearly not sorry," Bailey said, trying to hide her smile as she looked at the now happy girl.
"My bad, Jane," Jared said, causing the girl to narrow her eyes at him.
"Did Kim seriously tell you my last name?"
"I tell him everything," Kim said with a shrug.
"Oh really, what about–" Bailey was cut off as Jade covered her mouth.
"We're gonna go dance," Jade said quickly, pulling Bailey and Lita away, Jared giving Lita a small smile as he was still holding Kim.
Jade led Bailey and Lita to the crowded dance floor, the pulsating beat of the music growing louder as they approached. Neon lights flashed in rhythm, casting vibrant hues across the gyrating mass of people.
"Don't tell us you've never danced," Jade said as Lita stood there looking awkward.
"I have, just... not at a party."
"Well, it's not like anybody's watching. Only us. Just do whatever feels right," Jade said as Lita scanned the crowd.
"What, like leaving?"
"No, just... I don't know, dance!" Jade said happily before she grabbed Lita's hands. The girls' eyes widened in surprise as they began to dance, with Bailey doing her own thing as she still drank the drink she had said tasted disgusting.
Lita didn't believe what Jade had said because, to her, it felt like she was being watched, judged. In that moment, she decided she was going to have to fake her confidence if she wanted this feeling to fade. So, she took Jade's words to heart and danced. She slowly began to actually enjoy herself, the trio getting into singing along with the crowd as loud Spanish music blared through the speakers, making it hard to hear one another.
"I have no idea what they're saying, but it's so good!" Jade yelled as they danced together.
"He's literally just talking about dancing in a club!"
"You speak Spanish!?" Bailey yelled back.
"I'm fluent!" She yelled back before Jade smiled and loudly declared, "Oh my god, that's so sexy!"
Lita's eyebrows furrowed at her odd words but decided to take it as a weird compliment. "Thanks, I guess!?" She yelled back over the loud music.
The night had worn on, and the group had now been rejoined by Kim as they sat on the couch. The party had died down, and only a few people were left, mostly those who were drunk or still drinking. The group laughed loudly as they took photos before finally getting up and deciding it would be best to go home.
The group of four walked outdoors; several people were outside, but Jared was leaning against what Lita presumed was his car.
"I think I'm gonna go home with Jared..." Kim said, and Bailey raised her brow at the girl.
"Oh, I see..." Bailey said, smirking at her.
"Shut up," Kim retorted, rolling her eyes. Jade laughed loudly, swinging her arms over the girls' shoulders before yelling, "Go get that D!" Kim flipped her off before she reached Jared's car.
"Fuck, I'm so tired and drunk," Bailey groaned as she got into the seat beside Jade's. "That's why I'm the designated driver," Jade said with a shrug.
"Better you than me," Lita said, even though she hadn't drunk either. Although it wouldn't have been her first time, as her dad and herself had drunk together once or twice.
The car ride back home was a mix of laughter, random singing, and Bailey occasionally yelling, "I am the queen of the night!" Jade navigated the streets with ease, her focus on the road as she shared an occasional glance with the girls.
Bailey, still a bit tipsy, continued her storytelling, "You know, I once climbed a tree at the school's courtyard because I thought I saw a cat stuck up there. Turned out, it was just a weird-looking branch."
Lita chuckled, "Well, at least you tried to rescue the cat, even if it was imaginary."
Bailey shot her a mock glare, "I'm a hero, okay? Imaginary or not."
Kim's text notifications kept buzzing, each one adding a new layer to the hilarity. Jade couldn't help but join in, reading Kim's texts aloud, "Jared's car has a weird smell. Might be the new air freshener. Also, he's playing Michael Jackson. Help."
The girls erupted into laughter, imagining Kim stuck in Jared's car with questionable air fresheners and music Lita was told she hated.
When they reached Jade's house, they stealthily entered, avoiding any creaky floorboards.
Collapsing onto the bed, the room filled with whispered discussions. Bailey, sprawled out, declared, "My brain hurts..."
Jade laughed, "Well you did have like eight shots of tequila"
Lita, feeling a sense of belonging she hadn't expected suddenly spoke "Thanks for tonight, guys. I needed that."
Bailey smirked, "Anytime. Especially if there's a chance to witness Jade's questionable dance moves."
Jade playfully shoved Bailey, "Hey, I'm a dancing queen, thank you very much."
As sleep began to claim them, the room echoed with their laughter as they reminisced about Jade's odd dance moves and how Kim had gotten into a fight over another girl eyeing Jared.
