Y/N:
Ugh, I hate this day already!!!
"Stupid fucking rain and stupid stupid locker!" I cussed out loud.
My day certainly started to be a good one but gradually, it degraded into one of the most awful ones I have ever encountered in my life. Despite that, even an inanimate object such as the Headquarters' umbrella lockers decided to lock me out.
"Kon'nichiwa (Good Afternoon)!"
"Koโ" I began with an instinctive response that's been drilled into my brain. However, I suddenly realized that the creepy and yet mellifluous voice belonged to none other than Tsukishima Kei.
"No. No, no, no."
"It's nice to know that your vocabulary has shrunk exponentially since the last time we met." He mocked as he towered over me with that not so innocent smile of his.
"Go away. I have pressing matters to attend to." I dismissed him and any other intrusive thoughts that may gnaw my brain from here on out.
"Came to see daddy?" he scoffed, gently prying the umbrella from my hands as he locked them in.
He certainly noticed my ongoing struggle with the locker and offered his help along with his childlike ridicules.
Don't say it... Don't say it... Do not say it...
"Yes, that right. I came to see Tetsu."
I told you not to fucking say it! Ughhhh!!!!
"You should learn to say thank you." He smiled, commanded even. His voice so stern and his eyes perfectly cold as he stood across from me. He was so polished, unyielding, and suave.
"Mata ne (another time)!" I waved, brushing past him.
It was such a shame, to let him off the hook this time but to see him characterize the very essence of a visage I bury deep within, made me feel things. An amusing and yet cruel sense of attraction and rotten ideas, all in harmony. Particularly, thoughts that needed censure.
Such a handsome prick!
I walked forward into the office, only to see my favorite pair of conniving thieves talking amongst themselves in the smoking room, busy smothering their lungs. After all, they didn't even have the time or the instinct to even notice that I was standing just beside them.
"I want to groom him. He's got the head for it."
"He's new, I don't want to rush into this." Keishin-nii hesitated, inhaling a large puff.
"Like it or not, Tsukishima-kun will be my legacy."
"You are speaking like a man that's about to retire."
"Well, I've got myself a woman now andโ" Tetsurou paused as I patted him on his back, gladly interrupting him.
Keishin-nii and Tetsurou's hands let go of their cigarettes as they turned towards me and they looked like they had just seen a ghost. The smoke thus dissipated into the air as they looked at one another, surprised. On the contrary, both of them smiled at me as they were trying to act normal. After all, they were discussing the forbidden topic, Tsukishima Kei.
"Oh [L/N]-chan, I didn't notice. I'll be off now."
"Oii, enough with the act. He knows."
"Yes, I've known for a while now."
"Yoshh! We are going to be brothers from now," Tetsurou gleamed with excitement as he practically engulfed Keishin-nii in a hug. As the big bad commanding officer that Keishin-nii is, he stood stiff and Tetsurou played it down as he hesitantly asked, "I mean, do you approve sir?"
As cute as it may seem, I was not in the mood to play the shy, homely girl with them and I ordered, "Do not answer that."
"What? Why?" Tetsurou asked, disappointed.
"You call yourselves cops?" I asked, controlling my fuming irritation.
"Eh?" Keishin-nii exclaimed along with Tetsurou.
"Your instincts need a bit of tinkering." I scoffed rolling my eyes and began to leave the room.
"[F/N]-chan!" Tetsurou called me out, holding my wrist. I harshly shook it off and began to walk away.
"I wouldn't. She's mad at something." Keishin-nii advised and it was the last thing I heard in that room.
Of course, Keishin-nii was right. I was mad. I was furious because nothing went my way. It was a simple bail and I couldn't get it. It was humiliating to stand in that court to just have the bail denied. All because those damned reporters decided to make a small-scale murder into something that it is not. And it was obvious that the judge was biased.
If it continued this way, I wouldn't be able to face Kita-san and certainly not Oikawa for a while. Kita-san had finally entrusted me with a case, let me in on a case that could become the talk of the century if gone wrong, and yet I had managed to let this slip away. And Oikawa being Oikawa would most certainly hold it over my head for this lifetime and more to come.
But then, it occurred to me; I had my very own puppets in the Police department. Except, too many factors were involved and I just had to break them one by one. All I had to do was to get Yamaguchi Tadashi transferred to the Headquarters. Get my hands on the latest evidence before it even went to court. And Bam! I could spin the story right where I stood without breaking a sweat and gain the attention of the reporters. Only if I manage to pull it off without a crinkle, I can manage to stay in the good graces of the mysterious caller who wanted me in on this case.
It was my plan A to get Tetsurou to do the dirty work for me while I sat back and pulled the strings but to my dismay, he was focused on making Tsukishima Kei his legacy as he called it. It was awfully clear that he was quite smitten with Tsukishima and his charms so, I had to devise a plan B.
Besides, I didn't want Tsukishima anywhere near this case. I cannot afford to lose my composure and if he is anything as my beloved Keishin-nii says, he would go out of his way to sniff around on this and possibly ruin my chances of winning this case in my way, the way I want it to. Even if it meant bending some rules.
The most dangerous thing about his involvement, in this case, would be catastrophic in my terms and he may come to recognize and deduce the real me. The one that he resonates with. This case would be better off with me being in control rather than a quick-witted, calculating, four-eyed monster.
So here I was, standing at the door of the man who was an old flame, the man who's the embodiment of Family, Duty, and Honor. Sawamura Daichi.
"Hello!"
"Ah Hisashiburi (long time no see)," he greeted, trying his best not to be awkward.
"You look well!" I dawdled.
"Well, um, thanks, and you too!" he shied away.
"So, how's Michimiya-san and the baby?" I asked with a particularly awkward smile. After all, we used to date. It would only be weird if I didn't ask about his family and shit.
"They are great. So, what brings you here?" he got to the point, trying to break the awkwardness in the air.
"Yes, I uhโ" I dragged again.
"What? What is it?"
"I don't know how to begin and I'm afraid it's a big askโ"
"[L/N]-san, anything I can do to help." He reassured resting his palms on mine, in the friendliest way possible.
Ahhh such a dreamy guy! Why did I let him go? Ughhh, focus Y/N focus. Stop thinking with your vagina.
"I'm representing Yamaguchi Tadashi in the murder case of Shimada Makoto," I announced. He looked like he was completely unaware of it so, I had to rip off the band-aid right then and there.
"Why am I even surprised? Of course, you'd represent the criminal." He withdrew his arms as he sat straight, completely displeased.
"Daichi-san, I'm just doing my job."
"Well, what do you want me to do?" he asked as he rummaged through his drawer and fetched the files on Yamaguchi Tadashi.
He began to leaf through the file and I carefully asked, "I know that Miyagi comes under your jurisdiction and I'd like for you to transfer my client here to the Headquartersโ"
"No."
Ugh, here it comes, his annoying sense of duty and honor.
"Daichi-sanโ"
"I'm sorry but I'm going to stop you right there. He is the murderer and I'm positive that the judge denied bail based on the evidence my team has provided. So, no." He said as he peered into my eyes. He sternly turned me down as if he had the upper hand over me.
You are such a fool Daichi! Do you not know what I have against you?
"Don't refuse right off the bat, because that would be a mistake. You should reconsider." I strongly suggested with a smile.
"No matter how many times you requestโ"
Ughhh, this is getting irritating. Maybe, I should just start with the simple one.
"Oh, I'm not requesting any more. I'm saying Michimiya-san is just a phone call away." I cut him off.
He was taken aback. He truly thought I wouldn't play dirty. Maybe it was my fault, to begin with. Ultimately, it was me who deceived him that I just was a good little girl.
"You said you wouldn'tโ"
"Aww, did I say that? It's a shame that I don't remember."
"You are not the sameโ"
"The same girl you used to know? Well, at some point or the other, you did know. You just chose to ignore it."
"Whyโ why would you go this far?"
"Like I said, I'm doing my job." I gave him a stern response.
Yaaaaayyyyy! This is going to end much sooner than I thought. If I knew this would be so easy, I would have done it sooner and wouldn't have asked Himekawa-chan to do the dirty work for me.
"Then, go ahead. Call her. You are not going to stop me from doing my job either." He said as he heaved a sigh.
Eh? He's challenging me? Me? That was such a wrong move on your part Daichi!
Himekawa-chan I hope to God you are ready with it or I am going to have to straight-up fire you.
It came so naturally to me as I dialed Himekawa-chan's number and twittered, "Moshi mosshhh (Hello)!"
"I have the videos [L/N]-san. The ones you asked me to fetch. May I forward them to you?" My intern Himekawa Aoi asked for my permission as soon as he picked up.
"Well, I just called you to tell you a piece of very heart-breaking information. Please brace yourself!" I spoke which in turn tensed Daichi up, just like I expected.
"Eh, you are not making any sense though." Himekawa-chan babbled.
Baka Himekawa! Take a hint!
"No no, he didn't die. It's much worse." I spoke with utmost sincerity despite my stupid intern who couldn't play along or take a hint.
"[L/N]-san, did someone hit your head? Daijobu (Are you okay?) anyways, I'm sending it to you now."
Himekawa, you big idiot. Why couldn't you do this sooner?
"He cheated on you."
And in that instant, my phone was snatched out of my hands, "Michimiya, I can explain. Helloโ," Daichi yelled and a few seconds later it hit him, "What the hell? It wasn't Michimiya?" He asked as a sense of relief washed over him. Sadly, he didn't know I had another card up my sleeve.
"Oh, you thought I was actually speaking with your wife?" I scoffed, even laughed a little.
"What the hell are you doing??"
"You might want to sit down for this. So, please." I adduced as I walked behind him and forced him to sit back.
"Who was that?" he asked.
He remained hard-nosed, as always. Except, he was fretted and I liked it. Small pearls of sweat began to appear on his forehead and I ruffled his neatly brushed hair. I wanted him to look as defected and damaged as he was on the inside.
A cheat, an imperfect boss, and a corrupt cop.
"Oh, that was just my stupid intern who was collecting information on your baby brother who apparently is a drug addict." I cooed, rummaging through his room.
His room had the worst network connection and I had to drag it along such that the videos Himekawa-chan sent, can be downloaded.
"Stop playing with me [L/N]-san," he commanded and it made me want to hug him from behind. The least I could do was comfort him. Plus, he always smelled great but today, it was different.
Is that the smell of fear? I should do this more often; I'm beginning to forget the taste of it all.
"I'm not that bitch that holds your infidelity to gain leverage over you. I mean, I enjoyed it as much as you did. It was just as sweet as we used to do it in college, senpai. Nice and rough, just like old timesโ"
"Stop it."
"It was a shame that you had to cheat on your wife. She had a High-risk pregnancy and you were so pent up. Coincidentally I was there at the bar, and we were reminiscing about our good old days in college. Even though you weren't drunk, you gave me that lustful look and booked a room at the hotel and manhandled me likeโ"
"I said stop it."
"Tut tut tut. Don't interrupt me. You are in no position to." I whispered against his ears.
All he could do was gulp down his pride and watch me tear his life inside out. I continued to taunt him till I was completely satisfied. He could have chosen to help me while I still gave him the chance. He could have said yes when I asked him in the nicest way possible, but no. He wanted to act like a righteous man. So, I chose the ace up my sleeve.
Finally, I showed him the video as I narrated, "In the first video, we can see you handing over a package to this guy in a hoodie that somewhat resembles heroin? Cocaine?" and then suddenly it hit me โ "Oh! Perhaps it's from evidence?"
"Delete it."
"Shhhhhh, it's okay it happens, chill. But in the next video, we can see your baby brother buying drugs and you covering his tracks as you can see you are literally dragging his high ass into your house." I explained as I would to a child.
He was angered, humiliated, distraught and for the most part, I know for a fact that he felt like a piece of shit. And like the hot cop with athletic reflexes that he is, he snatched away the phone from my hands and deleted the video that could incriminate him, and threw my phone across his room that shattered it into pieces. I must say, it was quite the scenery to watch his tenacity break into a thousand pieces along with my phone. It just made me laugh.
"Obviously, you realize that I have other copies. You just wanted to let out your frustration, I completely understand." I gently patted him and left him alone to dwell in his agony.
"You have no ideaโ" he began and I cut him right off.
"You act like you are so high and mighty, like a decorated hero but you are just a piece of crap, just like the rest of us."
I didn't want him to recite a story about why he did what he did. The fact remains that he did it and he is paying for it by doing me a favor. Simple as that.
"Anyways, this should be good enough for you to change your mind. Think about all the press coverage you and this department would get if this accidentally got leaked to my contact at Tokyo times." I chimed with a hearty laugh in the end.
I pressed him right where it hurts. He held his honor in high regard and to shatter it myself, had a different kind of satisfaction.
"You vultureโ"
"Thanks. Let me know when my client gets here. I'll be waiting at my boyfriend's office. My boyfriend as in, Kuroo Tetsurou, the hot Assistant commissioner, who's a better man than you, you know?" I said as I strutted towards the door.
"[L/N]-sanโ"
"He actually is better than you in every way you could think of; he even has a better technique and a bigger dโ"
"No matter what I do, you won't win this case." He declared with a painful stare.
"Yeah yeah, whatever helps you sleep at night." I waved him off as I left his cabin and onto the next, to meet the person who will be helping me with the evidence, unbeknownst to his stubborn self.
Iwa-chan... here I come!
To be continued...
