The fog had finally cleared after the group stayed the night in the automobile. Auriella was the only one that couldn't sleep, the words Clarke had said to her had been stuck in her mind the whole night. She knew she cared about Clarke but not enough for something she said when she was drunk to keep her up all night.
She hated the way Clarke made her feel, she didn't want the words she said to be what she actually felt about her, but Auriella didn't know for sure if she had meant what she said. After all, she had heard that drunken words are sober thoughts. She didn't know what to think now.
"The fog's cleared. Come on." Clarke said as she stuck her head out of the door and climbed up, the rest of the group following. "Let's go, Jaspers waiting." Clarke rushed, throwing her bag over her shoulder and walking off.
Auriella walked beside Clarke, while the two boys walked behind them. The brunette chose to not talk to the blonde, not knowing what to say to her. The heavy silence annoyed her, but for once her brain couldn't come up with a single word for the shorter girl.
Clarke noticed this. She wasn't used to the girl not having anything to say. From what she had seen, there was always something that Auriella could talk about, even if it didn't pertain to what they were doing. She looked down, noticing the way the brunette's muscles contracted, meaning she was doing something with her hands. She sighed at what she saw the taller girl doing, picking at her cuticles. The skin had already started to slightly bleed.
"What's wrong?" Clarke questioned, looking towards Auriella. The brunette didn't answer, continuing to let her cuticles bleed from the excessive picking. Clarke shook her head as she focused again on getting back to Jasper.
Auriella gazed towards Clarke, watching as her jaw clenched. She sighed, looking towards her slightly blood-stained hands. "Did you really mean it?" Auriella whispered, slightly looking over at Clarke.
"What do you mean?" Clarke questioned, looking up at her with furrowed brows. "What you said last night, about me going into the fog." Auriella answered, biting the inside of her lips.
The brunette was trying not to show how her words had affected her, but it was hard whenever she didn't know if the blonde had meant it or not. She was worried that Clarke would say she did. If she did, Auriella didn't know what she would do. She couldn't deny, she felt something for Clarke, even if she hadn't quite figured out how deep it was.
"I was drunk, we all were." Clarke said simply, not looking over at Auriella. "You were pretty harsh on Wells. I'm assuming what you said was true, why wouldn't what you said to me be too?" The brunette clenched her jaw, speeding up her pace and walking ahead of Clarke.
Clarke watched as Auriella walked in front of her, she could tell she was upset. Her words had a point to them. Why wouldn't the words she said to her be true if Wells's were.
What Auriella didn't know was that they were most definitely not true, Clarke could never wish for her to go out into the fog. She didn't know why she had said it, she just snapped.
The brunette felt a hand on her forearm, spinning her around to face the blonde. "Auriella, I was drunk I-
Clarke was cut off by a scream. The two girls' eyes widened as the looked towards where the scream came from. "Go back to camp." Clarke told the boys.
The blonde kept her hold on Auriella's forearm as she started running. "What were you saying?" The brunette questioned. Even though Clarke was focused on getting to where the scream had originated from, Auriella was focused on what she was going to say about last night. She wanted to know more than anything.
"Not right now, Ella." Clarke almost yelled before she came to a stop, her eyes widening. Auriella watched as her breath became hitched, not from running but from the sight in front of her.
The brunette felt the blonde's grip on her tighten as she started to walk forward. Auriella's gaze went to where Clarke's was focused. It was Atom. He was covered in blisters and his eyes were white. Bellamy was leaned over him, a knife in his hands.
Atom's breathing sounded like he was choking, and he was whispering words to Bellamy. Auriella and Clarke sat down across from Bellamy, the blondes grip releasing Auriella's arm and laying on Atom's stomach.
"We heard screams." Clarke spoke, her gaze looking from Atom to Bellamy. "Charlotte found him. I sent her back to camp." Bellamy spoke, his head shaking negatively.
Auriella watched as Clarke shook her head at Bellamy, him clenching his jaw and nodding. "Ok. I'm gonna help you alright?" Clarke smiled down at Atom and started to rub his head.
She started humming and grabbed the knife from Bellamy. Auriella knew she should be focused on Atom, but her gaze and mind was focused on Clarke. Her voice was soothing in a way. If she was dying, she would want to hear her voice.
Clarke pushed the knife into the side of Atom's neck and pulled it out, letting the blood spill onto the ground as his misery ended. If this is what the fog did to people, Auriella was glad that they had found a spot to hide in. She would hate to die this way; it looked like agony.
She also couldn't help but think of Luka. Was she safe? Did she get hit by the fog? Now she was panicking. She didn't want Luka to die this way, she didn't want Luka to die period. She had to get back to camp.
The blonde released the knife from her grasp as she shut Atom's eyes. There was a heavy silence that lingered over the group. Auriella kept her gaze on the girl in front of her, noticing how she was slightly tense.
"We need to get him back to camp." Auriella spoke up, brushing her hand across Clarke's shoulder. Clarke shook her head and stood up, leaving the knife on the ground beside Atom. The group all walked back to camp, carrying Atom's body in a makeshift gurney out of sheets.
Once they got back to camp, Octavia came over to Bellamy, but Auriella couldn't care less. She dropped where she was carrying the sheets and looked over for Luka.
Her eyes scanned the crowd, not seeing a trace of her. Her eyes turned wide and panicked and her breathing picking up. She needed to get to her sister. She needed to make sure she was safe and alive.
She walked back over to Bellamy, "Bellamy was anyone else out in the fog?" She questioned him, somewhat rushed. The Blake man's eyes look over to Auriella, his brows furrowing, "Atom was the only one I found."
The brunette girl swallowed, trying to calm down. If Bellamy didn't find anyone else, Luka was okay, right? She had to be. If only she could find her. Just as Auriella was about to ask about Luka, she heard an all too familiar voice behind her.
She turned around and her eyes landed on the familiar face of her sister. Her eyes softened as her shoulders slumped. "Thank God you're okay." Auriella mumbled as she jogged over to her and wrapped her arms around her shoulders, pulling her against her chest.
She felt Luka wrap her arms around her waist and sigh once was in her grasp. "I was scared something happened to you." Luka mumbled against the fabric of her shirt.
Auriella sighed and brought her hand up to cradle the back of the younger girl's head. "I was worried something happened to you too." She whispered into Luka's hair, pressing a soft kiss to the top of her head.
It had been a few days since Atom died and now Wells was dead. Everybody thought it was grounders, and they had the right too. Auriella had been helping put up the fence, trying to keep the said grounders out.
She had been exhausted but she knew she couldn't stop, not with Murphy watching her every move. For some reason she noticed his eyes on her more than anyone else. It was probably because she had beat his face in a few weeks prior.
She watched as his eyes moved with her figure as she carried a log across to the other side of the fence. She had to say, she wasn't the biggest fan of his eyes on her.
At this point in the day, she had been on her feet for multiple hours and carrying heavy planks of wood. She deserved a break, she needed it. She didn't care of what Murphy had to say at this point, if he tried anything she would just put up a fight again.
The brunette walked over to a patch of grass and sat down, her head tilting back and hitting a finished part of the fence. She felt the hot sun against her forehead and shoulders, feeling it piercing her flesh.
As her eyes began to close, she heard heavy footsteps approaching her. The brunette could only assume it was Murphy. "What do you think you're doing?" His voice rang in Ella's ears.
She clenched her jaw as she slowly opened her eyes. She saw his angry expression and rolled her eyes. She didn't answer him and simply rested her head back on the fence once again.
She heard him let out a slight chuckle before she felt a hand wrap harshly around her arm and pull her up from the ground. "Get back to work." He seethed.
Auriella's hardened gaze felt as if it could burn a hole into Murphy's head. "Murphy, let her go." The Blake man's voice came from behind. Another eye roll came from the brunette as she felt Bellamy's hand around her free forearm.
"If she gets a break, then all of them will think they get a break too." Murphy spoke, not releasing his grip from Auriella. The brunette hated the feeling of their hands on her. She didn't need Bellamy's help with Murphy and she didn't need Murphy shoving her around.
"I swear if you don't get your hands off me, you will both have a black eye, not just Murphy." The William's girl spoke through gritted teeth. She felt Bellamy slightly release his grip, but Murphy's was still as strong as it had been.
Apparently, Bellamy had noticed that Murphy hadn't let go of Auriella because he started to stare down Murphy before speaking. "Murphy, let her go. I need her." The Blake man spoke.
"Now why would you need me?" Auriella looked up to him. Bellamy rolled his eyes as Murphy let go of the brunette, Bellamy starting to drag her along with him.
At this point Auriella really wanted to punch Bellamy but knew it wasn't such a great idea. She couldn't care less about what Bellamy needed her for, she didn't want to be around him.
Before she knew it, she was being thrown into a tent. She looked around, seeing Clarke, Octavia, and Jasper all around a table. "What is this?" The brunette questioned, mainly looking towards Clarke.
Auriella's gaze fell towards the table that had a metal knife and two fingers, Wells's fingers. "The grounders didn't kill Wells; it was one of us." Clarke looked up at Auriella.
"So, there's a murderer in the camp?" Jasper whispered, clutching onto his jacket. "There's more than one murderer in this camp. This isn't news, we need to keep it quiet." Bellamy spoke up.
Auriella watched as Clarke started to walk towards the exit, the knife in her hand. She spoke to Bellamy to get out of her way. "Be smart about this, look at what we've achieved. The wall, the patrols. Like it or not, thinking the grounders killed Wells is good for us." Bellamy spoke.
"Oh, good for you, you mean. What? Keep people afraid and they'll work for you? Is that it?" Clarke spat. "Yeah, that's it." Bellamy shot back. "Look, why am I here because to me it just seems like im here to watch you two bicker about what to do." Auriella spoke up, crossing her arms across her chest.
Now, both of their gazes were on her, their conversation coming to a stop. Bellamy had dragged her here and then discarded her off to the side. There was no point in her being here.
"You're here because I asked you to be." Clarke spoke to her, her tone softening when speaking to the Williams girl. Ella's broad posture slightly faltered when she heard what the blonde said. She had assumed Bellamy wanted her there but if it was Clarke, she wouldn't have minded as much.
"Why?" Auriella's tone also softened when she spoke directly to the blonde. She watched as Clarke brought the knife from the table into her point of view, handing it to her.
The brunette flashed a confused gaze towards Clarke but took the knife anyway. She inspected it and saw initials written on the inside of the knife, 'JM'. The only person that could be none other than John Murphy.
Auriella's jaw immediately clenched, and Clarke noticed. She looked up at Bellamy with a hardened glare and took an intimidating step forward. "Your little goon killed Wells?" Auriella spoke up, shoving the knife into the Blake man's face.
Auriella didn't even give him enough time to respond before trying to shove past him. She felt his hands grab her forearm and shove her back. "Let me through, Blake." Ella met the man's eyes, not caring what he thought of what the brunette was going to do.
"Auriella, just wait. What are you gonna do? Just ask the killer to step forward." Bellamy questioned, slightly looking down towards the girl. "We don't have to, JM. John Murphy." Auriella replied, attempting to walk past Bellamy once again.
"If you're not gonna let me through, let her." Auriella pursed her lips and handed off the knife to Clarke before he could say anything. She slipped past and out of the tent, leaving the other four before they followed.
Auriella watched as Clarke came between a kid and Murphy and shoved him. She couldn't hear the conversation going on between the two when Luka met her side, questioning what was going on. The brunette explained as her gaze went back on Clarke.
"Bellamy, you really believe this crap?" Murphy shouted over to where the now five of them were standing. Bellamy just slightly tilted his head up, not giving a verbal response. Murphy spoke about the grounders killing Wells and not him.
"You threatened to kill him. We all heard you. You hated Wells." Clarke spat. "Plenty of people hated Wells. His father was the chancellor that locked us up." Murphy retorted.
"Yeah, but you're the only one who got in a knife fight with him." Clarke yelled. Auriella had never heard Clarke this mad, if she had to be honest it slightly scared her.
"Yeah, I didn't kill him then, either." Murphy spoke. "Tried to kill Jasper, too." Octavia spoke up. Auriella saw as Murphy looked her way, seemingly knowing what was coming next and he was right. Since they were on the topic, she thought now would be the perfect time to bring it up once again.
"Yeah, and you nearly burned Luka alive, i'd clasify that as attempted homicide. Maybe more." Auriella raised her voice, wrapping an arm around Luka.
Luka and Auriella watched as Murphy stepped back, away from Clarke and spoke about not having to answer to anyone. "Come again?" Bellamy crossed his arms.
Auriella gazed down at Luka and leaned in closer to her ear, "Why don't you go to the dropship." Luka shook her head, a smirk plastered on her face. Auriella wanted to protect Luka more than anything, if she was right, she knew what was coming for Murphy and she didn't want Luka to see it.
"No way, the is the most interesting thing that's happened in days for me." Luka looked up at her sister, earning an eye roll. "Luka I-
Auriella was cut off when a loud commotion came from the side of her. Murphy had been thrown to the ground and was being beaten on by multiple juveniles. She was right, he got what was coming to him. She scanned the crowd as Murphy was getting gagged with a seatbelt from the dropship.
She saw Clarke trying to get to Murphy, screaming for people to let him go. She rushed in and grabbed a hold of her shoulders, trying to pull her out before something happened to her. "Clarke, there's too many, you can't stop this." Auriella raised her voice so Clarke could hear her above the crowd.
Auriella turned Clarke to face her, her hands firmly planted on her shoulders to stabilize her. "He deserves it." Auriella spoke truthfully. She watched as Clarke's worried expression contorted into one of hurt and confusion for Auriella. "Even if he does, he doesn't deserve to die, Auriella." Clarke spoke firmly before releasing herself from her grip and following everyone else down to Murphy.
Auriella bit the inside of her cheek, looking towards the ground. She knew she had upset Clarke with what she said about Murphy. The look on her face said it all. She felt that Murphy deserved it, she hated him for trying to kill Luka, but Clarke disagreed.
Auriella was ripped from her thoughts when she saw Luka running down after everybody and disappearing into the crowd in front of Murphy, who was now hanging from a tree with a box under him to keep him from choking. She followed after her, making her way into the crowd.
"You can stop this. They'll listen to you." Clarke shoved Bellamy's chest. Auriella stood beside Luka on the outside of the open ring in front of Murphy. She saw as Luka rushed in, trying to grab at her forearm to hold her back.
She stood there, watching the interaction between Bellamy, Clarke, and Luka. "Bellamy, stop! It's not right." Auriella heard Luka's voice. The brunette's brows furrowed at her sister's words. Why would Luka not want Murphy dead, he tried to kill her?
"He tried to kill you, Luka. Why don't you want this, I know Auriella does." Bellamy pointed his gaze towards Auriella, who looked between the two. Even if it was interesting for Luka, she felt uneased by it and knew she had to try and stop it.
She couldn't just sit there and watch someone die, especially in this brutal of a way. Maybe she was being soft but that just who she was, she could never sit there and watch someone die even if they had tried to kill her weeks before.
"Because it's not right, this isn't the ark. We need as many of us as we can get." Luka pleaded. She looked to Bellamy, who met her gaze and for a moment she swore she saw a moment of realization, but it quickly went away when she saw him go towards the center.
"Bellamy! No, you can't!" Luka grabbed onto his arm, but he quickly shook her off as he shoved the box under Murphy away. "No. Bellamy. No." Clarke screamed, her voice raspy.
"This is on you, Princess. You should've kept your mouth shut!" Bellamy screamed at Clarke. Auriella rushed in, shoving Bellamy back. "Shut the fuck up! It's on you, just like everything that goes wrong is." Auriella stood in-between Bellamy and Clarke, giving Bellamy the deadliest glare she could.
Auriella felt Luka come to her side, looking between the two as more commotion swarmed around them. "Stop ok! Murphy didn't kill Wells. I did!" Charlotte screamed from the crowd. Everyone's eyes went wide as Clarke immediately reached for Bellamy's axe and rushed to cut down Murphy.
Luka watched as Bellamy looked at Charlotte, his expression confused and sad. "What do we do about her then?" Luka questioned the Blake man. "We'll figure it out." He spoke softly, keeping his gaze on Charlotte.

authors note-
I actually love the interaction between Bellamy and Luka, I know they haven't been the main focus of this book because ima try to focus a little more on them later.
But the way Luka couldn't just sit there and watch Bellamy technically kill Murphy is just so ahh, I'm kinda aiming for Luka to be like the exact opposite of Auriella.
Like Ella's this badass and Luka is just this soft and sweet young girl idk 🤷🏼♀️
Also I'm aiming to make longer chapters bc I realize if I wanna fit most scenes from the show I'm gonna be hitting like 50 chapters before the end of season 1 so I don't want to do that so there might be more longer chapters like this but ima aim for around 2k-2.5k per chapter instead of the 3k of this one.
but anyway I hope u enjoyed this chapter.
PLEASE vote and comment if you enjoyed <33
