summary

     THERE was once a saying Clara Roy used to describe her friendship with Leopold James Fitz. Bitter rivals when they first met, he couldn't even stand the sight of her. Now, after more than ten years, they finally realised what they felt. They finally realised how much they longed for each other, how much the other meant, how much they'd do just to make sure the other would survive. Clara Roy loved Leo Fitz, and he loved her. He loved her to the world and back, the universe and back, and she felt the same; she always had.

     Lincoln's death shattered the team, but they have worked to get back on their feet. Working to make sure that something like that would never happen again. But things at S.H.I.E.L.D. were different now. Daisy had gone rogue, destroying banks and hunting down Watchdogs. Coulson was no longer the Director, now just another soldier while the fresh-faced Jeffrey Mace took his role. May was much the same, a teacher to new recruits stepping into the bustling, crowded halls of the base. Leith was never around, off on missions for months at a time with Mack and Coulson. Jemma was also barely around, too busy being in the Director's Inner Circle to take one second to sit down and have a break. Fitz rushed to and fro between the lab and Radcliffe's Washington home, keeping secrets. And Clara was back to being who she loved most: a doctor, away from the field and contained with a great big danger plastered on her file, but happy and content despite it.

     Because while everything was different, and everything was rushed, she was back to where she was most comfortable. She was helping people, she slept beside her loving boyfriend, safe and warm, and she was starting to think that for the first time in years, her and Fitz might just have their happy ending.

     But, after all these years, she should have learnt; there was never a happy ending, especially for her and Leopold Fitz.

a/n: i didn't want this series to turn into the mature rating, but
with fitz's character development, and the scenes surrounding it
i couldn't avoid it. the ideas and themes explored in this through
his character, and clara's experience on the oustide, it just needs
a mature rating and warning.

i mentioned sex in the warnings. not because there are explicit sex scenes.
i don't write those. but clara and fitz are adults in a mature relationship. it's
going to be mentioned, talked about and implied.

anyway, i am so excited for this book despite the themes!!! season 4 is spectacular
and i absolutely love season 5 for its acting and characters (*cough* deke *cough*)
and memorable scenes (*cough* fitzsimmons wedding *cough*) even though they both
broke me emotionally.

(ps: i cannot wait to write deke and clara's relationship. also leith and deke's relationship. those two are like so similar it could go one way or the other. they could get along really well or deke will annoy leith the absolute shit out).
