— HUNTER GRAY FELT AS IF HIS SENIOR YEAR WAS GOING TO BE THE DEATH OF HIM. His brother, Colin, was a junior and more well known around the school because of his goth, emo, punk style. Hunter was somewhat popular — being in marching band with his looks would make people talk about him. Drama was below him though, he didn't care what people said about him — until Jennifer Check began flirting with him. That's what made Hunter get associated with the popular girl. Jennifer seemed nice enough but Hunter didn't want to be friends with her. They only had one class together and Hunter definitely didn't want to be seen with her outside of the school — Jennifer with a senior? That was new.

— JENNIFER AND HER BFF NEEDY WERE BOTH SPECIAL IN THEIR OWN WAYS. Even though it was clear Needy wasn't as popular as Jennifer, that didn't matter — she had her boyfriend Chip and her other friend Genevieve, a sophomore. Jennifer clearly didn't like Needy having this much attention and would always make it clear how much she hated both Chip and Genevieve. Jennifer's only friends were Needy and her ex, Hayden. Jennifer and Hayden had broken up whenever Hayden found out that Jennifer cheated on him with a thirty something year old officer named Roman. The two still remained friends but it's clear to most that Jennifer still wishes the relationship stayed in tact.

— ROSE MAY FRASTER WAS THE NEW GIRL AT DEVILS KETTLE HIGH. She was a sweet girl and instantly became friends with Needy before she got introduced to Jennifer. The tension was palpable but Jennifer was mostly wanting to stay as the popular girl but if the shoe fit on Rose then she wouldn't say anything. Luckily for Jennifer though — Rose didn't want to become popular, she just wanted to finish her time at school before moving on with her life. With all these friends surrounding Needy, Jennifer sought attention somewhere else in the form of Lip Addams — real name being Phillip — who was a loner and seemed to not be Jennifer's type but the attention she gave her, that's what made her like him.

— THE FRIEND GROUP ENDED UP GOING TO A BAR, MOSTLY BECAUSE OF JENNIFER. A band called Low Shoulder was playing there, and Jennifer found the lead singer "salty" — she knew she could get his attention with her looks so they all went. Rose and Hayden met for the first time there, and Needy could tell how well they got along. Genevieve showed up much to Jennifer's chagrin, and it was surprising to see her with Hunter. Once the band began playing, Jennifer was entranced — to entranced to notice the electrical fire that suddenly broke out.
