She hummed to herself as she washed the remaining plates from dinner and kept glancing out the window over the sink. Nothing more than a large area could be seen until the forest path finally began. It could definitely be worse than a view that included nothing more than trees and your own property. No neighbors, no city lights, nothing. Just a lake and the woods.

“It's nice, isn't it?” James walked over to his sister, grabbed the cloth on the counter and dried the wet plates. “Dad loved the cabin, he always wanted one of us to have it.”

“Ugh, I would love to stay here forever. It brings back so many memories, plus it's so different from Cali. Much more peaceful.” She slowly looked up at her brother, who seemed a bit nostalgic himself. But she had also noticed that during dinner he acted different⸺ kind of dejected.

Finally she put down the last plate, drained the water and put a hand on her hip. “Is everything okay with you? You seem so lost today.”

“I'm okay”, James assured his younger sister, but then let out a sigh. “It was just a long day that was filled with tough decisions.”

The brunette furrowed her brows, shaking her head in slight confusion. “What's going on, James? No one's telling me anything but I know there's something going on.”

James noticed the concern in Cassie's tone and quickly turned around to face her, gently nudging her arm. “It's nothing bad, I promise. Well, at least you'll be happy.”

As if she wasn't already confused enough, James' words caused even more confusion and her patience was running out. Not knowing whether to worry or stay calm was tugging at her nerves. She just wanted to enjoy the few days in Tacoma and plan for her wedding.

“Can you just tell me what's going on?”, she asked urgently, but only got a shake of the head from her brother, which in turn only made her sigh again.

“Just talk to Happy, Cas. He was going to tell you about everything later anyway”, he told her with a wink before his features hardened a bit, looking at the brunette with concern. “Happy told me what you did⸺ the suicide attempt. Do I need to worry that it'll happen again?”

“Oh, really?”, she asked in surprise, but she looked relieved when she heard that Happy wanted to talk to her anyway.

At James' next question, her cheeks were glowing in a soft pink and her gaze dropped to the floor. She didn't like that James knew about it, it was embarrassing, but she also understood that Happy had to talk to someone about it and wasn't mad at him about it at all.

“No, you don't have to worry about that”, she mumbled in embarrassment, rubbing the back of her neck. She tried desperately to block out the event and not to think back of how she had felt when she heard that Happy was supposedly dead. Even though he was here, sitting comfortably in the living room with his son and enjoying a beer, it still scared her.

“Can I be sure about this?”, James inquired sternly, his hand reaching for hers. “I can't lose you, Cassie. If anything happens to you I know that I failed as a brother.”

“I was fucking desperate, James”, she snarled, feeling bad immediately after reacting so harsh. Shaking her head, she gave him an apologetic look. “I'm sorry, I just hate to talk about it. Look, Happy is here, that's all that matters. I'm not doing anything stupid, I promise.”

James sighed, yet he accepted her answer and had a feeling she meant her words. Still, it hurt him that she had tried to kill herself out of desperation and pure sadness. Even now she still seemed vulnerable when it came to that topic and James now understood why Happy had made Jeffrey suffer in so many different ways. But he wouldn't tell Cassie about it. There were some things she didn't need to hear about her Old Man or the torture he did in general.

“Good, because if you ever try shit like that again⸺”

Cassie didn't even let him finish and wrapped her petite arms around his waist, giving him a tight hug that he returned immediately. “I won't, James.”

“Good”, he mumbled against her hair, giving her one more squeeze before he let go of her and smiled slightly. “Join your Old Man, i'll finish up here.”

Happy stretched his arm out after he sat down on the bed so Cassie could snuggle into his arm. He grunted softly as she snuggled against his side and wrapped her arm around his torso and threw one of her legs over his legs.

Callum slept quietly in the travel cot that stood next to the window, his soft snores filling the cozy room. Happy ran his fingertips down Cassie's upper arm, at which point she hummed softly and began tracing his tattoos with the tip of her manicured finger.

“You think we could use one of the other rooms as Callum's new room?”, he asked, breaking the comfortable silence. A slight grin on his lips when Cassie suddenly sat up straight, looking at him confused.

“Huh? We're hardly here. Or are you planning on coming here more often again?”, she asked, a certain anticipation swaying in her tone at the thought of being here more often again.

“I'd rather say permanently”, Happy rasped, tucking some strands of hair, that had come loose from the messy bun on the top of her head, behind her ear. Patiently he waited for her reaction, which came a bit delayed because she had to realize first what he was actually saying.

“B⸺but, I mean..”, she stammered almost in shock and stared at him through her blue eyes. “What are you saying, Hap?”

“That we're going to stay. I asked Sam to go shopping with you because there was an important meeting that was about me, about us and about our future. The transfer is through, everyone agreed and voted. I didn't tell you about it because I didn't want to give you false hopes, little girl”, he told her, after all she had a right to know. And this way be could take the tension from her.

After a long moment of silence, that almost got him worried for a moment, the brunette let out a small squeal and and threw her arms around his neck after she climbed on his lap. Burying her face in the crock of his neck, she inhaled his scent while she tried to control her breathing.

Tears of pure joy formed in the back of her eyes and a lump was stuck in her throat after hearing such news. A shaky smile formed on her lips after the realization set in. They would actually move back here and as it seemed into her dad's cabin. This was, besides becoming Happy's Old Lady and giving birth to Callum, probably the happiest moment in her life.

“I can't believe this. This can't be real”, she whispered against his neck, pulling her arms even tighter around his neck while he held her close, running his hands up and down her back.

“Look at me, baby”, he demanded gently, slowly pushing her away from him so he could take a look at her. Cupping her face in his hands, he gave her the slightest smile. “Are you happy?”

“How could  I not be happy?”, she asked in a choked voice, putting a hand on her chest. Her heart was beating so hard with excitement that she could almost feel it pounding against her hand. “Did you do this just for me? Or also because you wanted this?”

She felt it was the greatest proof of love Happy could ever have given her. However, she really hoped that he had done it for himself too and not just because of her. But all of this, the news, also explained James' tense, quiet demeanor at the table earlier.

“I wanted to come back here too, little girl. I never planned to stay in Charming permanently, just until they had enough members again. With the prospect getting his patch soon, they have one more member and can afford to let me go. They weren't thrilled, especially James, but they understand my decision”, he grumbled, his thumbs tracing her cheekbones. “Are you okay with leaving James, Lily and Benny behind?”

“You have no idea how much I love you, Lowman.” She was clearly touched by all of this and had a hard time not bursting out in tears. Yes, she would have to live with the fact that her brothers and niece, and also her best friend, would stay in Charming but she was almost twenty seven, a grown woman, she would survive it.

“And yes, I'm okay with that. They're not out of the world and I have to accept that James' life is in Charming now just like he has to accept that Tacoma will always be my home”, she replied with a nod, giving him a small, genuine smile. “After Callum, that's the greatest gift you could have ever given me. But can we even afford it? And are we staying here in dad's cabin until we found a new house or permanently?”

“I promise we'll visit them as often as we can”, he promised her with a grunt, let go of her face and put his hands on her hips. “Don't worry about the financial stuff, that's my thing.”

“Happy stop, I wanna know, okay? I know you take care of the money but I want to know if we can afford this”, she told him softly and put a hand on his cheek. “Fill me in, what's the plan?”

Happy let out a sigh, knowing his Old Lady wouldn't give up until he'd tell her. “Lee doesn't want anything for the house. All he wanted was us to come back here. Once I sold our house in Charming I'll still give him something for the cabin. The good thing is that we don't need new furniture except for Callum's room. I got the finances under control, little girl. And as soon as our old house is sold, we'll have enough savings for a few years.”

“That sounds pretty good honestly”, the brunette had to admit and she would definitely stop by at Lee's house tomorrow to thank him for this. Tom wanted one of their kids to get the house but Lee still could've kept it for himself, but that wouldn't have been like Lee at all. “Does that mean we're not going back to Charming next week?”

“No, we're staying here. Gemma's gonna take pictures of our house and put it up for sale. We aren't going anywhere, baby”, he rasped with a smirk, running his hands over her curves before he let them rest on her ass, squeezing it.

“That sounds fucking amazing, baby”, she whispered seductively against his lips before she crashed them down on his and showed him how grateful she truly was by keeping him busy for the next hour.

By the middle of the week, and two days before the wedding, it was officially their house. Lee had written out a contract and signed over the house to Happy and Cassie, who couldn't have been happier.

The rooms all stayed as they were, after all Lee had made sure that the house stayed clean. Happy and Cassie still used Cassie's old room as their bedroom. Since his fiancee has never been into the girly stuff, her room was furnished quite simply, almost old-fashioned, and decorated only with a few plants and a small bookshelf. So he had no problem using it as a bedroom. The room also had a huge window and the perfect view that Cassie had always needed to fall asleep.

They had turned the guest room, which was right next to their bedroom, into Callum's new room. It was simple, yet it looked lovingly furnished thanks to Cassie's love for decoration. It wasn't quite as colorful as his old room, but it was nice nonetheless. Since they wanted to have everything ready before the wedding, they didn't have time for complex things. Nevertheless, the result was perfect in the end.

Happy and Lee had already decided to start building a small playground for Callum after the wedding. They had enough space in front of the house. All in all, it couldn't have turned  out better and Happy knew he made the right decision for his family.

authors note; the next chapter will be the wedding chapter! Don't expect too much because I'm always skipping the ceremony and only write the part before and then skip to the party, lol. I'm just not good at writing weddings. There will also be a little Tara moment tho.

Is there anything you guys would like to see in the next chapters? Feel free to leave your wishes in the comments. Can include drama or not, I'm trying to bring it in. 🖤
