Chapter nine...

Duncan had taken the trio back into the ornithopter as it had become night in the desert.

(Y/N) was leaning against Paul who had one of his arms wrapped around her shoulders.

"Here." Liet handed the trio something, "Drink this."

"The Harkonnens hit every population center on the planet at once. It must've been ten legions, hundreds of ships. There were Sardaukar with them. At least two battalions." Duncan informed everyone, flying the aircraft.

"Are you sure?" Jessica asked softly, a blanket wrapped around her body.

"You cross swords with the Sardaukar, you know it." Duncan replied looking straight ahead.

Jessica sighed, "So, the Emperor's taken a side." She turned to Liet, "What says the Judge of the Change?"

Liet avoided eye contact, "The Emperor forbids me from saying anything at all."

"And yet you risk your life to help us." Paul fired back, pulling (Y/N) closer to his chest.

Liet didn't answer.

Duncan landed the ornithopter on the land, far away from anything.

The group was now dressed in desert clothes. (Y/N) kept the same white clothes on but with a cloth that draped down her back and covered a part of her necc, hand in hand with Paul.

"The storm will be here in a few hours. We'll be safe here," Liet lead the group into a bunker, "Do you know what this place is? It's an old ecological testing station. They were meant to tame the planet and free the water locked beneath the sands." She explained as the group followed close behind.

"Arrakis could have been a paradise. The work has begun but then the spice was discovered and suddenly no one wanted the desert to go away." She continued to explain, "Tanat, will you find stillsuits to fit our visitors."

"Yes, Liet." Tana answered, walking off to find some.

"Shamir, coffee service, please." Liet ordered another Fremen.

"Of course, Liet." Shamir replied, going off as well.

"Who are you to the Fremen?" (Y/N) asked curious.

Liet just turned to her and smiled, walking through another door with the trio.

"Do you know what the great houses fear most, Dr. Kynes?" Paul asked, his hand picking up sand, "Exactly what has happened to us here. The Sardaukar coming and picking them off one by one." Paul stood up and turned around, making eye contact with (Y/N) who stood by Jessica.

"Only together can they stand a chance against the Imperium. Would you bare witness?," Paul started to walk forward, "Testify that the Emperor has moved against us here."

"If they believe me.." Liet paused, "There would be general warfare between the great house and the Emperor."

"Chaos across the Imperium." Jessica finished sharing a look with (Y/N) and Paul.

"Let's suppose me and (Y/N) present to the Emperor with an alternative to chaos. And the Emperor has no sons, and his daughters are yet to marry." Paul said, offering an idea.

"You'd make a play for the throne?," Leit asked beliwetered, "The Emperor feared the Atreides. He brought you and (Y/N) here to kill you both. What don't you understand?"

Paul's eyes became a darker shade at the threat to (Y/N), flexing his jaw momentarily.

"You're a lost boy hiding in a hole in the ground." Liet concluded, staring at Paul who stared back.

"The Fremen speak of the Lisan al-Gaib and the Ardh Waker," Paul started, walking around Liet.

"Careful." Jessica warned quietly.

"The Earth Walker, a legend that hasn't been seen for centuries and The Voice from the Outer World who will lead them to paradise." Paul spoke again.

"Superstition." Liet muttered.

"I know you loved a Fremen warrior and lost him in battle," Liet looked up at Paul as he continued, "I know you walk in two worlds and are known by many names. I've seen your dream." The male was standing in front of Liet.

"As Emperor, Dr. Kynes, I could make a paradise for Arrakis with the wave of my hand." Paul's voice dropped a few octaves, coming out like a rasp.

(Y/N) felt a shiver go down her spin at his voice, knowing that this man was hers and hers alone.

As the talking stop, (Y/N) felt a sudden change in the environment and the others felt it too as they looked towards where Duncan was.

Paul walked over and grabbed (Y/N), sensing danger he straight away went to grab her.

"Duncan.." She whispered, watching as he walked towards the other door and opened it, seeing people fighting, more so Sardaukars.

"Sardaukar!" Duncan yelled, getting out his blade.

"Duncan no!" (Y/N) shouted, getting out of Paul's grip and ran towards him, ignoring the shouts of her name.

Duncan turned back around to the girl he thought of as a daughter, saluting with his blade then he shut the door close.

Just before the door shut, he gave (Y/N) a wink, more so a final goodbye between father and daughter.

"NO!" She cried, hitting against the door and trying to get through to her father, "Duncan!"

Tears were streaming down (Y/N)'s face so fast her eyes became blurry, hitting the door harder, "Open the door please!" She cried harder, now using her quarterstaff to hit the door, "Duncan!"

"God damn it!" She screamed, hitting the door so hard her hands started turning red.

Paul having enough of this, reached out and grabbed (Y/N) and brought her into a hug, her head on his chest with his hand behind keeping it in place.

"No! Let me go Paul!" She cried, her fist punching against his chest, trying to break out of his strong grip.

Paul had tears in his eyes as well but held them in knowing he had to comfort the hysterically crying (Y/N), "It's okay.." He cooed against her ear, fingers tangled and nose nuzzled in her hair, "I'm so sorry my love.."

Her sob's didn't stop, however she stopped her punches against his chest and had let them fall down, placing her face in the crook of Paul's neck, tears wetting his skin.

Suddenly (Y/N) felt a sharp pain in her chest, such strong pain then it stopped. She knew what this meant, "No....He's gone!" She sobbed, lips quivering and her hands fisting Paul's shirt tightly.

The male holding her just held on tighter, pressing a hard kiss to her forehead, pulling back he rested the tip and bride of his nose against it, feeling (Y/N)'s body shake with cries, "I know... I know." His voice came out hoarse, nose still nuzzled against her forehead.

"We have to go. We have no choice." Liet called out to them.

(Y/N) looked up from Paul's chest, tears still falling, "No! we can't leave him!" She cried.

"Paul grab her!" Jessica yelled, herself starting to run away from the laser beam coming into the room, trying to break down the door.

"Forgive me...." Paul whispered to (Y/N), removing his hands from her.

She blinked through her tears, "Wha-"

Before she could finish Paul picked her up bridal style and followed his mother.

"Stop! Put me down!" (Y/N) screeched, hitting his chest again, wanting to go back and get Duncan.

"We have to go (Y/N)!" Paul yelled back, "I can't lose you too!" His teary eyes looked into hers desperately, still carrying the girl in his arms down the hallways Leit led them through.

Her lips just tremble, hiding her face in Paul's chest as she didn't have any more energy to fight back.

"Follow the light," Liet ordered, "You'll find a thopter ready to fly. That storm out there is your best shot. Above 5000 meters, it's mostly dust. Climb into it. Stay on top. Head south. Find the Fremen." She handed them equipment and handed Paul (Y/N)'s quarterstaff.

"You're not coming with us?" Jessica asked breathlessly.

"It only sits three. I'll go to the next station and report this attack to the Landsraad." Liet replied, putting something on her back to carry.

"How?" Jessica questioned.

"I'm Fremen. The desert is my home." Liet turned to (Y/N) who was still in Paul's arms, not saying anything, "Take care of her, Paul."

Paul looked down at (Y/N) seeing her tear stained face against his chest, "I will, always." He nodded back to Liet.

She nodded back, "Good luck."
