Chapter Six: Tourney Tryouts

"Bea, come on!" Audrey said as Bea pulled a yellow jumper over her head. She's a part of the cheer squad. I know, I know. It's not really Bea's thing but it's kind of a job of hers. Because she's soon to be Royal Advisor; she's got to show school spirit. She put on blue leggings and fixed her hair. "We've got to get into the school spirit!"

"Yeah Audrey," Bea replied, walking out of the changing room. "I'm coming,"

"Here you are," Audrey said, handing the brunette some pompoms. She took them with a fake smile. Dammit. Get me outta here. Bea thought. "Okay girls," Audrey starts as they got into formation. Bea spotted Carlos and Jay both on the tourney field. Dam...I didn't know they played.  Carlos looks lost though. Kind of like a puppy.

"Hey! Hey!" Coach says, shouting at Carlos. who just looked up at him. "Hey you, Lost Boy! Put your helmet on and get out of the kill zone! Cone on!" "Kill zone?" Carlos mumbled. "What?" He put on his helmet.

"Bea? Are you listening?" Audrey asked the fairy, crossing her arms, making the whole cheer squad look at her. "Yeah. You said we're going to do the same routine as yesterday, but me and Rosalie and Iris are going to back tuck when you get lifted." "Oh, so you were listening..." She said, twirling her long brown hair, embarrassed. "Yes, I was," Bea said, getting in formation.

"Hey." Bea looked up and saw Carlos standing awkwardly, beside her. Bea closed her book, and moved over, patting the seat next to her so Carlos could sit down. "So um-h-how are you?" "Are you okay?" Bea asked him. "I saw you on the field," Carlos winced with a smile. "You were..."

"Terrible, horrific, should never play again?" He said, lying against the wall. "I know, it's not my thing." "No." Bea said, putting her hand on his. "You just need some practice, then you'll be one of the best in the whole of Auradon!" "You really think so?" He asked  the fairy, biting his lip.

"I know so." Bea said, tapping his hand. She opened her book again as he looked over her shoulder. "What?" The fairy asked him, looking up. "What are you reading?" He asked, crossing his legs. Bea raised an eyebrow. "You really want to know?" She asked him. Carlos nodded.

"The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller." Bea said, showing him the book cover. "Have you read it before?" "There was a bookstore on the Isle. But only Gwen went there. And it went out of business when she was 11," he said. "So no."

"Do you want to read this one?" Bea asked, handing it to him. "Really?" He asked her. "Are you sure?" Bea nodded. The bell rang.

"Gotta go." Carlos said.

"See ya."

"See ya."
