Tap, tap of Velociraptor's claws

𝕋ℍ𝔼 jungle was eerily quiet, save for the occasional snap of twigs beneath heavy boots. The soldiers moved cautiously, their eyes scanning the dense foliage, fingers hovering over their triggers. But the stillness was deceptive—a trap lying in wait.

Suddenly, a distant shout pierced the air, followed by gunfire. Chaos erupted as the raptors descended, shadows slipping through the trees with deadly precision. Screams echoed, bones cracked, and the jungle floor was painted with carnage.

Rosita moved through the tall grass, her heart pounding against her ribs. Her every step was calculated, her grip on her weapon firm. Then a sound froze her in place—a soft crunch, close. She spun around to see Charlie standing a few feet away, his amber eyes locked on her.

Her breath hitched, but Charlie didn't attack. Instead, he tilted his head, his expression almost... curious. He made a soft, almost melodic sound as he regarded her.

"Flower?" Charlie said, his voice low and uncertain, the nickname an echo of gentleness amid the violence.

Rosita's lips parted in surprise, her weapon lowering slightly. "Charlie..."

Before she could say more, a deafening explosion ripped through the air. A soldier had fired a rocket launcher.

"No!" Rosita screamed, watching in horror as the blast engulfed Charlie. The shockwave sent her sprawling backward, her body colliding with the ground. Her ears rang, her vision blurred, but the flames licking at the spot where Charlie had stood burned with a brutal clarity.

Gritting her teeth, Rosita pushed herself upright, a groan escaping her lips. Tears welled in her eyes as she stared at the smouldering crater, her chest tightening with grief. But there was no time to mourn—her instincts screamed at her to move. She scrambled to her feet, running through the chaos to find Owen or Barry. As she weaved through the underbrush, the jungle seemed to close in around her, every shadow alive with danger.

In the distance, she spotted Barry diving into a hollowed-out log just as Blue leapt onto it. The raptor snarled, his claws tearing into the wood, puncturing holes as he desperately tried to reach him.

"No! Blue!" Barry yelled, pressing himself deeper into the log, panic evident in his voice. Blue's sharp talons tore chunks of wood away, his determination relentless.

Rosita and Owen appeared, racing toward the scene. Without hesitation, they jumped onto their bikes, engines roaring to life. The noise captured Blue's attention, his head snapping toward them, eyes gleaming with primal aggression.

"Go! Get his attention!" Rosita yelled to Owen, her voice sharp with urgency.

Blue snarled, hesitating for a moment before Rosita let out a piercing whistle. The sound cut through the chaos, making Blue's gaze lock on her.

With a growl, Blue abandoned the log and charged after the bikes. Rosita gunned the engine, the tires kicking up dirt as she sped through the jungle, Owen right beside her. The sound of Blue's pursuit was deafening, his claws tearing into the earth as he chased them.

"Keep him on us!" Owen shouted, glancing at Rosita, who nodded grimly.

Rosita didn't look back. Her heart was pounding, a mix of fear and determination driving her forward. "Come on, Blue," she muttered under her breath, gripping the handlebars tightly.

The truck rumbled steadily down the dirt road, Claire gripping the tablet with white knuckles as she kept her eyes on the scene unfolding before her. The tablet in her hands displayed the chaos—soldiers falling, raptors tearing through the jungle—but her focus was divided as she glanced over her shoulder at her two nephews, Zach, and Gray.

"Oh, my God," Claire muttered under her breath, her heart sinking with each passing moment.

Gray, his face pale with fear, leaned forward, his voice cracking as he spoke, "Is everybody dead?"

Claire's breath hitched, but she quickly composed herself. She dropped the tablet into her lap, putting on a mask of calm for their sake. "No, no, no. Everyone is fine," she assured him, though doubt gnawed at her.

Zach snapped, his voice sharp with a mix of anger and fear. "Don't lie to him."

Claire swallowed hard. She didn't have time to sugarcoat the truth. But sometimes, in moments like this, lies were a mercy. "He's scared. It's okay to lie when people are scared," she responded softly, her hand moving to comfort Gray's trembling cheek.

But Gray wasn't so easily reassured. His voice cracked again, full of childlike fear. "I wanna go home."

Claire's heart shattered at the sound. She placed her hand gently on his cheek, her touch tender. "Sweetheart, you will, okay? I promise. Tomorrow, you will be home, and your mother will never let me see you again."

As she spoke, her attention was caught by a horrific sight—a bloody hand slapping against the window. Claire gasped and screamed, her heart skipping a beat, just as the injured soldier's voice rasped through the air.

"Get out of here! Go!"

Without thinking, Claire slammed her foot down on the accelerator. The engine roared to life, and the truck lurched forward as the soldier opened the back to climb in. "They're coming!" he shouted.

But before he could make it inside, a flash of movement—a blur of white and grey—descended on him. Echo, the raptor, pounced on the soldier, tearing into him with ferocity. Claire's stomach churned at the sounds of bones crunching and flesh ripping. She pushed the truck forward, and the impact of the tires sent Echo and the corpse flying off the vehicle, the raptor landing on the road with a sickening thud.

"Just hold on back there!" Claire shouted over her shoulder to the boys, her voice rising with panic as the truck bounced along the dirt road.

Then, without warning, Blue crashed through the side window beside Claire, his massive form scraping against the glass. She screamed, her hands instinctively pulling back from the steering wheel, her heart pounding in terror. Blue, with his sharp, raptor-like features, seemed intent on getting to her, his nostrils flaring as he tried to reach for her. His eyes—those familiar amber eyes—locked on her, and for a fleeting second, there was something almost... tender in them.

But then, the truck jolted violently, and Blue was sent flying out, tumbling across the road as Delta raced after him, desperate to keep up. Claire's breath caught as she watched the raptors run together, their powerful legs propelling them with breathtaking speed.

Zach, without hesitation, grabbed a gas can from the back and kicked it out of the truck. It tumbled down the road, rolling towards the raptors, but Blue and Delta dodged it with ease, continuing their pursuit. Claire's heart hammered in her chest as she glanced at the rearview mirror, spotting Blue running alongside the truck. His eyes—still locked on her—seemed to speak of something more than just the hunt.

With a determined grit, Claire swerved the truck, pushing Blue off course. The impact of the truck hitting Blue sent him crashing into a tree, his body crumpling upon impact. Claire gasped, her breath coming in shallow pants as she fought to maintain control of the vehicle.

"Claire!" Gray yelled, his voice tinged with panic. "Is he—"

"No," Claire whispered under her breath. "No, he's okay. He's just... just stunned."

But then, Delta was back in pursuit, leaping with terrifying grace, her sharp claws scraping along the truck's metal. The boys scrambled to find the electrical spires, trying desperately to figure out how to turn them on.

"Turn it on!" Gray urged, his hands shaking.

"I don't know how!" Zach responded, the panic rising in his voice.

In one swift motion, Delta lunged onto the back of the truck, her claws scraping against the metal as she tried to haul herself inside. The boys, finally finding their bearings, activated the electrical spire. The shock that followed hit Delta with a force that sent her crashing to the ground, her body convulsing before she collapsed.

The truck rolled on, and a wave of relief washed over Claire. The boys exhaled sharply, leaning against the wall in exhaustion.

"Are you boys okay?" Claire asked, her voice tight with concern.

Zach let out a nervous laugh. "Did you see that?"

Gray, still shaken but with a flicker of adrenaline in his eyes, added, "I can't wait to tell Mom."

Claire shook her head, her voice firm but laced with humour. "Oh. Please, no. Do not tell your mother about that, ever."

Just as she thought the moment had settled, the roar of engines split the air. Owen and Rosita appeared, their bikes tearing down the road. "Owen! Rosita!" Zach and Gray cheered, waving their arms in excitement.

Rosita waved back as they pulled up next to the truck. "We gotta get indoors. Follow us." Owen nodded, his face set in determination. Claire nodded, putting the truck into gear as she followed behind them. As she reached for her phone, her fingers trembled as she dialled Lowery's number. "Lowery, we're headed your way. Call in a chopper," she said, her voice urgent.

But as they sped off, Blue and Delta were still in pursuit. The raptors' new alpha—the Indominus rex—called out to them, a primal cry that froze them in their tracks. Delta bolted back into the jungle, but Blue... Blue hesitated. His amber eyes lingered on the vehicle, on the lingering scent of Rosita. Something still tethered him to her.

"Blue! Come on!" Delta's voice called out, urgent and commanding.

Blue hesitated for one final moment, his gaze flicking between Rosita and the fading truck. Then, with a reluctant snarl, he turned and sprinted back into the jungle, chasing after Delta, the sound of their thundering footsteps fading into the distance.

Rosita's presence, though, remained in his mind, a memory that wouldn't easily fade.
