Liz couldn't sleep.
But who could after being told that they were made up?
Calvin had fallen asleep soon after they both laid down, Scotty came in a few minutes later and laid down beside him. Liz would've enjoyed this if only she wasn't made to like it.
Would she be able to leave?
Calvin wouldn't let her, she knew that.
Closing her eyes, Liz tried to fall asleep.
โโ
Listening to music wasn't helping distract Calvin on the fact that Liz now knew she was made up โ she had been asleep for a while now but he couldn't make himself wake her up, he wanted to see her sleeping in his bed โ their bed โ one last time.
But he didn't know if he could let her go.
She loved him, not like how Ruby did โ it was deeper than that.
Even if she didn't believe it, but he loved her โ he was obsessed with but that came with the love he had for her.
She was different, she felt and seemed real, realer than anyone else that he ever knew โ but to make her happy he'd have to let her have her freedom.
But he couldn't help but just...not do that.
He couldn't have her leave.
Looking down at the pages of what was Liz, he put the last page in his typewriter and began to type.
Liz now had her freedom, she was her own person but she remembered me, who I was to her.
Calvin closed his eyes โ too scared and frightened at what the outcome of this would be. The ding of the typewriter went off โ confirming his words.
"Calvin..?"
Looking up he saw Liz.
She was back to how she looked like before โ her old self.
Her hair waist length and a dark brown color โ her eyes were brighter than before, she seemed to look more youthful and happy. "Liz..." Calvin said as he stared at her with furrowed brows.
Please don't hate me.
Please stay...
"What did you do?" Was all she said and Calvin took the paper out of the typewriter before handing it to her. He watched her read over the words with a tearful look โ she looked up at him, "Really?" She whispered and Calvin nodded. Liz couldn't help but let out a laugh that turned into a sob as she hugged him.
"Thank you...thank you Calvin."
He didn't respond to her gratefulness and instead whispered.
"Say you'll stay..say you'll stay with me."
Liz looked up at him. She pulled away from him as she stared down at the paper โ she was happy with Calvin but this?
This she couldn't handle.
"I...I'm sorry Calvin." She handed him the paper back.
"I can't stay."
Calvin's brows furrowed at her words as he looked at her, "But..you said you loved me โ that you'd never leave me." Liz shook her head, "You controlled what I said." Calvin scoffed a laugh, "I never did that, you said everything at your own will." She stared at him before she turned around. "I'm gonna leave."
No.
I don't want you to leave me.
Stopping her by grabbing her arm, they were in this predicament again with a not so happy ending.
"You aren't leaving me." Calvin spoke in an emotionless tone. Liz couldn't help but feel scared at this Calvin.
"Let me go."
"I don't want to."
"Well you have to."
Her words made him loosen his grasp and she pulled her arm away, "Maybe in the future we'll meet again but...I need to be myself now." She walked away from Calvin.
Walked out of his life.

A year passed and Calvin ended up publishing another book, he named it The Obsession instead of The Girlfriend 2 like his agent wanted him to. He couldn't stop thinking of Liz at all.
The movies under the tv reminded him of their movie nights โ how they watched this one about an oil mill or whatever it was, it had a priest in it who Liz couldn't help but say looked like Calvin. He remembered how hard she laughed when he did his best impression of that character. Even Scotty seemed to miss her, he went back to his old self but he couldn't help but whine every now and then when he found something that she had forgotten in his home.
Their home.
Everyone seemed to love The Obsession โ even more than The Girlfriend, but Calvin hated it.
It reminded him about her.
Elizabeth Dream.
He knew she had to have read it, even if he changed her name and the distinctive features of hers in the book โ he knew she would read it and hate him even more than she did now.
Some nights, he'd wonder what she was doing โ how she was doing, how she looked like now, if she was dating anyone, it made him more emotional than he had ever been before โ even when Ruby left he wasn't like this.
These days he'd spent almost the whole day in bed, he was depressed, therapy wasn't helping him all that much anymore and he needed help โ so he went to the person he knew would gladly help him โ his mother.
He remembered how surprised she was to see him but he spent those days over there crying in her arms and explaining everything to her.
Well, not everything.
He didn't explain how he had created Liz but if he did โ he knew she wouldn't have believed him anyways.
Calvin spent a month over there and he learned a lot about himself.

Liz ended up getting in more things featuring the art of filmmaking and through that she ended up meeting the girl who inspired โ who basically created โ The Girlfriend.
Ruby Sparks herself.
They surprisingly found a lot of things they had in common.
Such as how they were both created by Calvin to be his girlfriend.
"How did he tell you?" Ruby asked as they sat at the diner that both of them used to go to with Calvin, "He just flat out told me, but โ he did accidentally knock me out," Liz laughed, "he probably wrote something like, Liz couldn't leave the room, cause I was being stopped by this force field or something, really weird." Ruby nodded as she spoke after her, "He did that to me too! But, he also like, proved to me that he could control me so he made he say all these things โ made me almost give him a striptease, oh, and he made me speak French." Liz couldn't help but laugh and soon Ruby laughed also. "You ever miss him?" Liz asked after a few seconds and Ruby furrowed her brows in thought.
She shook her head, "I don't wish to ever get back into a relationship with him but...yeah I think about the good times I had with him and how much I missed those moments." Liz nodded. Ruby took a sip of her water, "Why? Do you miss him?" Liz sighed, "I don't know โ is it bad if I say yes?" Ruby shrugged, "You're in control of your own life now, I won't tell you what to do."
Liz smiled, "My mind is telling me to go see him โ to have us heal from our relationship." Ruby looked at her, "And...?" Liz laughed, "And...to go make him a promise โ one that'll be good for us both." Ruby smiled at her.
Both of them were who they were now.
They were the ones in control now.
