PLOT

Ruby Black was found unconscious on a beach in Jamaica by a boy not much older than she was. The nine-year-old had no memory of who she was or how she ended up in Port Royal. All she had left of her past life was a ruby necklace, which was how she earned her name. Ruby stuck by Theo Black for the next ten years. After being the one to find her on the beach, he was the only person he trusted. That was until she met Will Turner, who became the third member of their trio. The orphans managed to secure jobs working for Governor Swann and were able to get their lives together.

That was until the pirates arrived.

Ruby didn't know what to make of what was happening, all she knew was that Port Royal was under attack. Theo was nowhere to be found after leaving for the blacksmith shop with Will. She was left alone with Elizabeth Swann and the other maids at the Governor's house. Ruby had never seen a pirate before in her life. Not up close, at least. But then she came face-to-face with two of them while hiding with Elizabeth. They were taken to Captain Barbossa without any hesitation, only to find out he wanted the medallion around the Swann girl's neck. But that was something she wasn't willing to give up so easily.

Ruby was soon taken on a very unwanted adventure.

She would never admit it out loud, but Ruby was terrified. Her journey on the Black Pearl was the first time she could remember being away from Port Royal. And on top of that, it was her first time being away from Theo since he found her. Despite her fears, there was something about sailing across the sea that calmed her. It was as if she was meant to be on a pirate ship sailing the ocean blue. But Ruby kept those feelings to herself. The last thing she wanted was to draw the pirates' attention toward her. Little did she know that she had already caught a certain pirate's eye. One who thought Ruby seemed far too familiar.

Maybe she wasn't a stranger to the pirate's life after all.

NOTES

▻ Ruby and Will have always had feelings for each other since they met, but neither of them were willing to share how they felt. Instead, they settled for being friends. That was until Will heard about Ruby getting taken by the pirates. That was all it took to make him realize that he couldn't live without her and would do anything for her.

▻ Ruby admits her feelings for Will later on. You can decide when that is. Their relationship should be somewhat slowburn. Mainly because Ruby isn't entirely sure what she wants or who she is. She doesn't want to accept anything new in her life until she can remember her past.

▻ Ruby's adventure on the Black Pearl helps her remember some pieces of her past. But she doesn't fully understand everything until her father reveals himself to her. He tells her everything and helps her fill in the missing pieces.

▻ Ruby and Theo have a sibling relationship. This cannot be changed. They're very close and look out for each other no matter what. Theo is very protective over her and doesn't approve of her relationship with Will at first, but eventually accepts it. Ruby will do whatever she can to ensure he is happy, even if that means accepting his relationship with Elizabeth.

▻ Theo and Elizabeth will have an enemies to lovers relationship. It will also be somewhere between slowburn and fastburn. Theo can't stand her at first because he thinks she's extremely entitled. But he puts up with her so he and Ruby can have a better life. It isn't until the end of the Black Pearl that he realizes he was wrong about her.

▻ Ruby's father is Hector Barbossa and her real name is Josephine Barbossa. She fell off the Black Pearl during a storm right before the pirates were cursed. Barbossa thought he lost her to the sea. It was a miracle she survived and ended up in Port Royal.

▻ Theo's family is up to you. You can decide to keep his past a mystery, create a backstory for him, or connect him to a canon character.

▻ Even after learning about her family, Ruby will keep her name as Ruby Black. It means more to her than her birth name.
