The group of teens is standing next to Jonathan's bed in his room. The Daughter of Flash and Frost looked at the pile of junk and clothes that were spread all over his bed and room. She wrinkled her nose in distaste. They all watched as two tan feet popped out from underneath the covers.
"So, what is it today?" Natalie asked.
"Does he get the mace, the Trident, the lightning, or the ice?"
Henry and Lucy glanced at each other mischievously and grinned.
"It's his Royal Highness turn." They replied in unison.
"I hate you both." The 19-year-old Atlantean grumbled as he walked over to the bed. Arthur's tattoos glowed blue as he lifted his Trident and pointed it directly at Jonathan which released a blast of water. Jonathan's eyes glowed red and he leaps out of bed. Arthur felt a stab of pain in his gut before he was launched through the window and onto the beach outside.
Natalie, Henry, Damian, Aaliyah, and Lucy jumped off the balcony and went to go help out Arthur. The 21-year-old Jonathan Kent stepped out onto the balcony. He rubbed his head and opened his eyes to see who it was he had hit.
"If you jackasses are all done bothering me, I'm going back to bed."
"Who are you calling a jackass, Jackass?" gawked Henry as he transformed into Snowstorm.
Johnathan let out a sigh. "That would be you, Jack Frost." He drops down on the ground.
"Cool superhero landing," Lucy comments.
Snowstorm leaped forward into the air and constructs Mjolnir out of ice. The weapon breaks on impact as he strikes Jonathan with all his might.
"That all you got?" Jonathan said smirking. He then uses his super-breath and blows sand in Snowstorm's face. He stumbles and falls on his face. Snowstorm transforms back into Henry.
"Well, that was embarrassing," Henry said and spits out sand.
Jonathan smiled smugly. "Now can I sleep?"
"What the hell is your problem, Jonathan?!" Arthur shouted. "You've been sleeping all day, missing training, blowing off your chores..."
"Which my brother and I have to do by the way," Natalie added.
"And generally being a real pain in the ass!" Arthur concluded.
"Who cares?" Jonathan replied. "What am I gonna miss, laundry day? So what if we don't do the chores and train? For what? Seriously, nothing's ever gonna happen in this place! You can act like a king, Terry and Lucy can play the superhero, Natalie can run around all she wants and Henry can follow like a lost puppy, and Aaliyah can live in fantasy land and talk to her parents all she wants. So what's the point?!"
"The point is not to be such an ass!" Aaliyah yelled at him.
"Oh right, there's no point for us because our parents are dead. Your parents just abandoned you, it's not like there's still hope."
"My parents may have left me for whatever reason."Β Aaliyah said quietly, "But at least I acknowledge them! Unlike you who decides to play off not having parents as nothing more than a simple matter!"
Aaliyah had enough of his crap. She gripped her mace and threw it at him. He ducked at the last second only to then get tackled to the ground by her.
"Anyone has some popcorn?" Henry asked.
"I love a good fight." Arthur grinned. "Go, Aaliyah! Kick his ass!" he yelled cheering her on.
"Your mace doesn't scare me, Aaliyah!" Jonathan grunted, glaring at her.
"Then allow me to show you just how much you should fear my mace!" Aaliyah retorted.
She picks up her mace and swings it. Jonathan got his hands up just in time to block the attack.
Terry stepped in between them. "Enough!" He yelled. "This bickering is pointless."
"'Bickering' he calls it," Natalie observed, "I wonder what he would call 'attempted murder'."
"Terry's right, that's enough!" another voice commanded.
Everyone froze before turning to see who had spoken. They looked at an old man with short grey hair, a scruffy beard, and blue eyes. He wore black cargo pants and a grey shirt with black combat boots
"Bruce!" cried, Henry. "I was about to tell them to break it up!"
"Yeah, we wouldn't have let it get serious, Dad!" agreed Lucy.
"Jonathan, Aaliyah! Go to your rooms and cool off!" Bruce ordered.
As they walked away, Lucy gave a little laugh while Henry smirked. "You and the others too, Lucille."
"Aww! But Dad!" Lucy complained.
"Now!" He ordered.
Then turning to Terry, he instructed, "Thank you, son, for stopping them, but next time you hear a commotion, come directly to me."
"Yes, sir," he replied.
The 58-year-old man watched them all begin to leave.
"Jonathan, wait!" He said to the teen as he walked away, "I know you feel trapped here with just the 10 of us, but try not to take it out on your brothers and sisters. Especially Aaliyah. If you want to be mad at someone, be mad at me."
"I'll apologize to them. Later," Jon replied.
"Your father was never very good at doing nothing either," Bruce continued, "You know you can always come and talk to me, Jonathan."
"But it's not the same, is it?" the teen asked quietly, "As you say, you're not my Dad."
With that, he began to fly up to his balcony only to stop halfway.
Suddenly, an alarm began wailing. A horn blared while red lights flashed. Bruce gasped before turning to Jonathan who was looking back at him.
"Jonathan, go to your room!" He commanded.
"Bruce?" Aaliyah called, uncertain as she and the others arrived.
"Dad, what's going on?" Lucy asked.
"What are these lights, and that noise?" Natalie asks.
"Everyone, inside Jonathan's room now! Until I give the all-clear!'
"Can we please wait in Damian's room instead," Natalie begged, "It's scary clean but at least..."
"Now!" Bruce ordered.
At once, they all ran up the stairs to the balcony and inside the room. Jonathan took one last moment to stare after him. "What's going on, Bruce?" thought Jonathan before closing the door behind him.
A few minutes have passed. Natalie paced around Jonathan's room impatiently. That is until she accidentally stepped on what looked like a piece of slime. "Ugh, how do you live like this, Jon? Haven't you ever heard of cleaning up?"
He smiled sheepishly and she rolled her eyes in response.
"Why are we hiding out in here?"Β Aaliyah suddenly burst out. "We should be out there helping Bruce!"
"We're not hiding." Arthur replied, picking up a slice of pizza from yesterday's lunch, "We're having a party. Besides, this is probably a new training drill."
"Maybe," Henry said before he gasped, clasping his hands over his mouth. He whispered. "Maybe it's Brainiac!"
"What? That's ridiculous! It's not Brainiac!" Jonathan replies. "It's probably just something stupid, like a fire on the machine level, or that time Alfred went nuts because of the water main leak. It's not Brainiac."
"Don't be so quick in making conclusions," Terry stated, "My Father wouldn't react this way if it were something mundane."
"Yeah, but it could still be a misunderstanding. Maybe he got the 'attack-of-the-killer-alien-robot' alarm mixed up with his 'left-the-oven-on' alarm." Lucy reasoned grabbing another slice of pizza.
"Yeah, you're right," Henry agreed. "There's no way it's..."
He trailed off as the others jumped up shocked. The door to Jonathan's room opened to reveal Tatsu holding an injured Cassandra.
"Where's Father?" Tatsu asked.
"We don't know. He told us to stay here." Lucy answered. Tatsu then laid her sister on the ground and inspects her wound. Lucy and Terry rushed to her side.
"W-What happened to, Cass? Is she gonna be okay?" Lucy asks worriedly. Cassandra slowly started to lose consciousness.
Suddenly, the door opened to reveal Bruce. He looked at his kids.
"Cassandra!" He exclaimed before dropping to his knees.
Her eyes reopened and it turned to face Bruce, "Father, the drones in Brainiac City have been upgraded. One was able to hurt me as we left."
"Were you followed?" Bruce asked quietly.
"Negative," she responded. "I'm sorry for setting off the alarms Iβ"
She was cut off by her Father.
"Everything is gonna be okay. Come on let's take you to the med bay." Bruce said gently. He took one of Cassandra's arms around his shoulders as did Tatsu and they began to take her out of the room.
"Terry and Lucy come. I'm going to need your help." Bruce said.
He turned to the confused group of teens behind him. "The rest of you stay here," He ordered.
Henry blinked before yelling in fright.
"Delayed reaction, much?" Natalie muttered as they all followed Bruce out onto the balcony.
"Bruce..." Jonathan asked uncertainly.
He sighed, "Look, I know you all have questions. I promise I'll explain everything, but later. Right now I have to take care of my Daughter. So, please stay in your rooms."
The children of the Justice League could only watch as the closest thing they had to a father figure moved farther and farther away. Leaving their heads filled with questions they needed answers to.
