7.2: He's A Little Of A Fixer-Upper
"Hello, my lovely couple, could I get you two anything today?" Yeji blushed at the word "couple," but her date didn't seem to care at all. She tried focusing on the menu, but all she could think about was the word "couple" which hadn't been used on her since her first romance in eighth grade.
"I would like the Chef's recommendation please, with my steak made medium-well." He placed his menu on the table after one look at it. He gave the waitress a menacing face as if he was about to kill her with his presence.
"And what could I get this elegant young lady?"
"The same as him please." Yeji exchanged eye contact with him.
The waitresses rapidly noted everything on a yellow stick note. "Okay then, any drinks?"
"I would like the Sunset drink," Yeji said confidently.
"What about you sir?"
"Same as her." He smirked at Yeji, giving her butterflies. Yeji didn't want him to get to her so easily, but rich and confident boys were exactly her type.
"Okay then! I'll be back in a few minutes with your food." The waitress quickly left in a flash. The boy kept examining Yeji's face like she was a rare jewel that he had just found; it made Yeji quite uncomfortable of course, she didn't know what to say.
"So Uhm... what's your name?" Yeji questioned him.
"You can call me Ryan."
"Ryan huh?" Yeji smirked at the guy who smirked back at her.
Yeji soonly began looking around anxiously. She honestly was only thinking about how long the food was taking, even though the order just went through. Ryan on the other side just admired Yeji. He examined her glittery eyeshadow, her sharp and defined jawline, her cat-like eyes, and her shining, glowing hair. She was truly astonishing to look at.
Ryan then started switching his eyes to go south. He examined her jewels, her shoulders, her bone-line, every single curve he could see. Yeji noticed him starting right away, it made her super uncomfortable. Yeji just pretended she didn't see him staring, she ignored him as long as she could but, of course, she couldn't do that.
"So Ryan, uhm... why don't you tell me about yourself?" Yeji nervously asked.
"Well, as you know, my name is Ryan and I'm a 18 years old living overseas with my family. As you may guess, I'm planning to take over my family business, even though I'm the youngest." Yeji arched an eyebrow at him.
"Usually the oldest takes over business right? Why isn't that the case for you?" Yeji curiously asked.
"Well, my family is quite traditional you see... my other two sisters are women, and my family believes that the men should take power in business." Ryan answered with an unfazed look, which really confused Yeji. The brunette just kept thinking, Why did I involve myself in this?
Yeji then later asked with a worried tone, "That's a bit old-fashioned isn't it?" but Ryan just gave her a small chuckle. "It's not like my sisters would've wanted to leadership in our business anyway." Yeji just nodded at him.
"Well Yeji, tell me about yourself."
"If you insist,"
"My name Yeji— last name Hwang, I am a 17 year old born and raised in South Korea."
"Any aspirations or dreams?"
"Well, I guess I really enjoy dancing? But that's just it, just an hobby."
"Dancing? Didn't expect that from you."
"You are not the first to say that."
"So you don't have any dream career?"
"Not really. I'll most likely just end up taking charge of my family's business."
"Well, if we ever get married we would be filthy rich." Ryan chuckled.
"I guess so?" Yeji also chuckled, making the atmosphere continued awkward.
"You know Yeji... you are a very pretty girl. I would be honored if I had a reserved spot in your heart." Ryan grins as he continues to examine Yeji, but this time he's not at her eyes; instead, he rather decided to look further down her body.
"Uhm.." His strange stares at her chest were instantly noticed by Yeji. He immediately switched back to eye contact after she lifted the top of her dress up to hide the revealing part of her chest.
When Ryan noticed that he was caught in the act of looking at her chest, he still didn't care, he continued speaking with confidence. "I know I'm going pretty fast, but you can't imagine how much I desire you to be mine." Yeji arched an eyebrow.
"And why's that? Why do you desire me so much?" Yeji questioned.
"Well I- uh, I think you're very beautiful and a sweet girl." Ryan spoke awkwardly.
"Hm... did my parents tell you that?" Yeji stared right back at him.
"I mean, that's what I noticed while on our date. You are really articulate." Ryan responded.
"Is that so? Or do you and your parents want to desperately doodle in my family's fortune?" Yeji's question left Ryan with his mouth widened without words to use.
Ryan kept thinking of what to say next, but couldn't, he was truly speechless- until Yeji started laughing right at his face.
"What's funny?"
"Just your face, the way you got so scared. Don't worry I was just messing around." Those words made Ryan calm, yet, nervous. Yeji would've been the first girl to leave him stuttering. She was truly, special.
Yeji was truly dying on the inside. She was overthinking every move and every word. What to say? What to think? What to do? What word should I use? How to make him stop looking at me like that? Have I done something wrong? How can I get out of this date as fast as possible?
Yeji never truly went on a date before, this was her first one, yet, she was already not interested. She noticed Ryan's nature right away. The way he looked at her, the way he talked to her like she was some sort of prize. Ryan reminded Yeji of Chaeryeong's ex boyfriend; they start of sweet, but they always give you tiny red flags that you never notice until it's too late.
"Well, would you still be interested in me as much I am in you?"
"I'm not interested in you in that way, yet. I think we are going too fast, I barely even met you." Yeji immediately regretted her words after she saw the look on Ryan's face. His eyes darkened and his hands turned into tight fists.
He looked... furious. Madly furious.
That's when Yeji realized that Ryan had a weak ego. Immediately after she rejected him, he couldn't contain himself from saying the most outrageous words she had received from someone, ever.
"You know what? I don't care. I wouldn't want a bitch who uses daddy's money to go around town dressing like a slut." Ryan stood up bitterly. Yeji also stood up as well wanted to say something but knowing what to reply.
Ryan was about to leave the table for good until he hesitated. He started heavy breathing to calm himself down, with hands on his hips and his head looking down. Yeji could only stare at Ryan, she literally froze not knowing what to do.
Ryan then slowly turned his head up at Yeji. "Also, you can drive home yourself bitch." He yelled. Ryan then began his way to the door, leaving the restaurant. He walked aggressively and dramatically- he had the whole restaurant staring at him before all theirs eyes shifted to Yeji.
Yeji had all eyes on her. Whispers of gossip dominated the place. Yeji then left the restaurant quickly with a look of shame on her face. She had never felt had felt more violated and embarrassed.
After Yeji left she had no idea what to do. She looked around for something to happen or to occur, but nothing happened. She then began walking mindlessly while tears ran down her face ruining all her make up. If the tears weren't enough, rain started to pour down, wetting her hair.
"Shit." She muttered.
"Dude, isn't that girl right there the annoying girl that's the daughter of those people your family got beef with?"
"Wait what?" Yeonjun turned around at the speed of light. "Fucking Yeji?"
"Dude, is she also crying?" Yeonjun's driver observed.
"What?" Yeonjun squinted his eyes. Turned out his driver was right all along.
"Dude you can't be serious right now. Should we go up to her?" Yeonjun look at the brunette for approval.
He arched an eyebrow at Yeonjun. "Suit yourself." Yeonjun smirked. The car had turned on again as the driver began driving together with Yeji.
Yeonjun had rolled down his window, "date gone wrong?" he said while giving her a condescending look. Yeji look back at the boy, she instinctively rolled her eyes.
"Oh look who it is... couldn't wait for someone to make my night even worser. Just leave me alone." She continued walking.
Yeonjun stared at the girl confused. Yeji usually stood her ground confidently, now she was just sad and vulnerable- he had never seen her that way. The girl was also terribly shivering, which made Yeonjun feel worser for teasing the girl.
Yeji rubbed her eyes cleaning up her tears. Her vision had become clearer as she noticed a convenience store sign. She became content as she thought of eating a hot cup of ramen. Yeji soon began walking inside the store.
Yeonjun noticed the girl walking in the store. "Stop the car," he immediately asked so the car immediately stopped. "I'll be right back." Yeonjun began following Yeji.
Yeji walked up to the late working cashier with her favorite cup noodle brand.
"Good night sir, I would like to purchase this cup noodles." Yeji shivered.
"Anything else?" The cashier spoke to her with dull eyes and a abrupt attitude.
As soon as Yeji was going to respond the old man with a no, Yeonjun put a ramen packet right next her cup noodles as he said "yes, add this cup noodles to the list please." Yeji looked at Yeonjun irritated.
"Is that all?"
"Yes and I'll be paying for it." Yeonjun slides his card down to the cashier, making Yeji scoff.
After the payment was finished they both thanked the cashier then began to walk away. Yeji was surprised to see Yeonjun walking with her to the microwave counter.
"Wow did you really have to pay for me? Do you really feel that bad?" Yeji said rudely.
"What- I don't feel bad for you. I was being nice." Yeonjun says as puts his cup noodles on top of the counter.
Yeji picked up the water jar as she adds water to her cup noodles. "You are never nice to me, and you know that. You were feeling pity, and I don't want that... especially coming from you." Yeji put the water jar down.
"Can you pass me that please?" Yeji slides down the water jar to him. "Thank you and wow, you are really reminding me of Lia right now." He puts the water jar down as well.
"So what if I feel pity for you, I mean- could you blame me? You have mascara running down your face... you look tragic." He picks up both of their cup noodles in the microwave, he then sets it to 3 minutes.
"Fuck you honestly." Yeji shamefully started trying to cleaning the mascara off her face.
"This feels totally weird and out of my comfort zone to ask but... what the hell happened?" Yeonjun puts his elbow on the counter.
"Why should I tell you? So you can judge me like you always did since we were kids?"
"Fine then, don't." He began looking away. Awkward silence filled the air for a few seconds, until Yeji gave out a loud sigh. "Ugh fine, I will." Yeonjun glanced her with interest written all over his face.
"My family set me up to a date with this guy, which had this whole weird vibe and attitude."
"Mhm..." Yeonjun crossed his arms.
"Anyways the point is that I rejected him."
"Ooh damn, right to the point."
"He then began acting angry and he even yelled at me in front of the whole restaurant. It was really humiliating." Yeji began looking down.
"Well at least you were the one who dumped him, you are out where looking like you were the one getting dumped." Yeji gave him the raging eyes once again.
"I'm sorry."
"Can't believe you convinced me to tell you this." Yeji crossed her arms looking at the ground with embarrassment and self hatred for being so suddenly open with a boy she would easily consider her nemesis.
"I have to admit though, I'm jealous." Yeonjun said, looking down at Yeji.
Yeji looked up at him with an arched eyebrow. "Why?"
"Because how could another boy get to my nemesis before I did? That's just unfair isn't it?" Yeji giggled.
"I mean- how would you feel if a girl made me cry instead of you?"
"Oh I would be very mad." Yeji spoke to Yeonjun with a comical voice. They both start laughing together.
The microwave started beeping as they both stopped laughing and mumbling. Yeonjun took the cup noodles out as Yeji got chopsticks for the both of them.
"Do you need a ride?" Yeonjun asks.
"Going to be totally honest- yes I do." Yeji sheepishly smiled.
"Okay then let's go, we can eat in my car." Yeonjun smiled back at her. They both then started walking towards Yeonjun's car.
Yeonjun's driver looked confused as he saw both Yeoujun and Yeji smiling together as they both walked back to the car.
"She's coming with us."
The driver arched an eyebrow as he looked extremely confused. "Uh okay then... just type in your address right here." The brunette pointed at his phone where he had google maps open and ready. Yeji typed in the address and soon the car started driving.
After a bit of chatting between the three throughout the passing minutes, Yeji had finally got to her destination- her home. Yeji opened the door so she could exit the vehicle, but before doing so she stopped to gaze at Yeonjun with a smile on her face.
"This is the only day I won't hate you, just so we are clear." Both Yeji and Yeonjun chuckled.
"Good night Yeji." Yeonjun gave her a soft smirk.
"Good night Yeonjun... and thank you." Yeji then shut the car door. She soon began walking slowly to her home as she saw the car drive off.
Yeji wondered why she felt so weirdly joyful to had talked to Yeonjun- a boy who she had always seen as the annoying one who she avoided most times she could as possible. Yeoujun began wondering the same thing, why were they both feeling this way? Both feeling anything but hatred for each other? It was a weird new feeling that felt sick and wrong to the both of them.
Their feelings felt prohibited, and A. would remind both of them of that prohibited feeling with a text message which both had received and opened at the same time.
"Careful, don't become too close or else your mommy and daddy will know." - A.
"Oh shit."
Hey guys! I would like to start by saying that I'm sorry for disappearing! I haven't really been free to write TMA because of school. I also haven't been my best self lately in these past couple of months... anyways- happy Halloween and happy new chap!!!
