☪︎⋆ CHAPTER TWO ❱❱

❝ in every universe my ass ! ❞ ⤾·˚ ༘ ◡̈

▎ 𝚃𝙷𝚁𝙴𝙴 𝙳𝙰𝚈𝚂. That's how long maeve cyrus has
been ignoring jeff atkins.

it started on friday morning. maeve cyrus had woken up with what felt like a horrible stomachache. she was nauseous at the smell of any food and any scent she came across.

"good morning beautiful." jeff atkins spoke as he came from behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist. the moment his cologne hit her nose, she instantly felt nauseous. which is the complete opposite, she normally loved his cologne.

"good morning" maeve responded as she tried her hardest not to make any sick faces as she would inhale his cologne. as they made their way down the hall in the direction of maeve's first period, she pushed herself away from him. which jeff frowns, she's never pushed herself away from him. "the late bell is about to ring, you should go to class before you're late" she told him.

jeff furrows his brows slightly. "are you okay? did i do some—"

maeve instantly shook her head. she hated herself for making jeff think he's done something wrong, but she just couldn't stand this stomachache. "no, god no. i just don't want you to be late" as soon as those words left her mouth, the late bell rung. quickly, she took a few steps closer to him and stood on her tippy toes, planting a quick kiss on his lips "i have to go, but i'll see you later." and with that she turned around and walked towards her first period.

as the day went on, maeve found herself constantly putting her head down in class. the nauseous feeling, would come and go.

when lunch eventually came around, she was sitting at her table with natalie and leticia. thankfully, the nauseous feeling had stopped at the moment and she was able to finish her lunch entirely. but she should've known that the feeling would come back, because when atlas hayes finally joined them at the table with his fish sandwhich the nausea came back.

when she scrunched up her nose in disgust, natalie diaz caught her. "are you still feeling nauseous?" she asks in concern

maeve sighs. "it's like waves, they come and go. but right now i am feeling very nauseous."

"what if you're pregnant?" atlas jokingly asks

maeve couldn't help but chuckle. "this isn't funny, atlas" she whines

leticia raised her brow. "what if he's right, maeve?"

maeve shook her head. "it's impossible. i'm on the pill." she declined

"nothing is impossible, mae." natalie argues, before taking out her phone and searching for some answers.

"what are you doing?" maeve questions

leticia leans over to see what natalie was doing. she looked back to maeve "on goggle"

the group waits for a few seconds before natalie spoke up. "ok. according to... blah, blah, blah. mmm, okay here. 'the pill is 99.7% effective with perfect use.'" she read off of goggle.

atlas furrows his brows. "perfect use" he mumbles in confusion while natalie continued to read.

"although birth control pills have a high success rate, they can fail and you can get pregnant while on the pill." natalie recited

just as natalie turned her phone off, jeff atkins joined them. "what's up, guys!" he smiled towards the group as he walks towards the empty space next to his girl

"hey, jeff" the group replied back.

meanwhile, maeve sat there wondering if there was a possibility she could be pregnant. "you alright, babe?" jeff questions as he placed his hand around her shoulder, bringing her closer towards him as he planted a kiss on her cheek.

maeve nodded, forcing a smile on her lips. she wasn't alright, but she couldn't exactly tell him that there was a possibility that she might be pregnant.

once the dismissal bell rang, jeff atkins waited for his girlfriend just outside of her classroom. he smiled when his eyes landed on her. "hey, baby" he says, as he slings his arm around her shoulder. his instantly plants a kiss on her cheek "what's the move for this afternoon?" he asks as they follow the rest of their classmates out the door of liberty high.

there's not a day where jeff atkins and maeve cyrus don't hangout after school. ever since they started dating, jeff would pick her up to go to school and drop her off at her house at a reasonable time.

since lunch, maeve hasn't stopped thinking what natalie read. she had to find out if she was really pregnant. so she lied to jeff. "umm, i can't hangout after school today." she began, which made jeff's furrow his brows in confusion "my dad is picking me up today, we're going to go visit my grandfather and have family dinner."

jeff nodded. "okay. i'll wait with you." he said as they made their way towards one of the outside benches

maeve shook her head. "no, i can't ask you to do that. go home and get some rest— do your homework. i will call you when i get home?" she suggested, hoping jeff would listen to her.

jeff immediately declined. "babe, i don't mind. i want to wait with you." he assured her. but luck wasn't on jeff's side because a hand came in contact with his shoulder.

"yo, jeff" both jeff and maeve turned to see conrad booker, jeff's best friend. "do you mind giving me a ride? my mom borrowed my car this morning, and justin already left." he asks

jeff sighs. he glanced back at maeve, who nodded at him. "call me as soon as you get home, alright?" he told her

maeve nodded, she was very thankful for conrad at this moment. "i will" she forces a smile, just as he leans down to give her a quick kiss on her lips.

"love you." jeff mutters as he pulls away

"love you too." she smiles softly

conrad sent her a nod as he and jeff took off. maeve watched as the two got into jeff's car. she waited by the benches until he fully left liberty high's parking lot, before beginning her long walk towards the bakers drug store.

when maeve walked into the bakers' store, she immediately went over to where they keep the pregnancy tests. she walked over towards the cashier, only to see hannah baker. maeve sighs as she placed the tests on the counter.

hannah and maeve were not really close friends, they were more acquaintances. she only knew hannah because they shared three classes together, and because jeff was helping clay with his little crush on hannah. which maeve thought was very sweet on jeff's part.

"hey" hannah greeted maeve with a smile, before her eyes fell on the three tests "oh..." she whispers

maeve wished the ground could swallow her whole. she sighs heavily, "yeah."

"it'll be $25.68" hannah said as she rang up the pregnancy tests.

maeve handed hannah the money. after receiving her change back, maeve was quick to grab the pharmacy bag that contain the tests and was on her way to leave. but she stopped herself and turned to hannah "hannah, can you please not tell anyone?" she asks politely.

hannah nodded with a small smile "you're secret is safe with me"

maeve sent her a grateful smile "thank you."

three minutes. that's how long maeve had to wait for the pregnancy test results. in just three minutes, her world could change forever. maeve had her life planned out. after graduation, she wanted to go to uc berkeley for their cheerleading program. kids never crossed her mind, well not until her later twenties or early thirties. but one night of having 'love drug' sex with jeff atkins could possible ruin everything.

the alarm on maeve's phone went off and she was quick to jump to her feet to turn it off. she took a deep breath before walking over towards the white and blue test. her hand placed itself on the test.

she brought it up to her, her blue eyes catch sight of the single word written on the screen. pregnant.

that afternoon, maeve cyrus didn't called jeff atkins to let him know that she had gotten home. nor did she answer any of his texts or calls. when dinner was ready her father came up to her room to ask her to come down, but maeve declined saying she wasn't hungry.

the next day- and the day after- she kept ignoring everyone's calls and texts; that including jeff atkins. he even showed up to her house, but maeve pretended to be asleep. she didn't have the courage to see him without breaking down into tears. how could she tell him that she ruined his life? jeff would always talk about how he can't wait to go pro in baseball and make it into the mlb. he swore if he were to go pro, he'd take her with him— everywhere and that she would be every game.

but it was monday now, and she had to face jeff atkins. she tried to play the sick card on her father, but he shook his head not believing her. there was no more running.

jeff atkins would always pick her up in the mornings, but she needed time to prepare herself. so she finally texted him, only to tell him "natalie will be giving me a ride today." jeff never replied. she knew he was upset, he had every right to be.

maeve lied once again. natalie wasn't giving her a ride, she chose to walk to school. upon almost arriving, clay jensen bicycled right beside her "hey, maeve" he said with a small smile

maeve forced a smile. she liked clay, he was one of her good friends. she was very grateful for him, because he was tutoring jeff. he's the sole reason why jeff continues to play baseball. but at this moment, she just wanted to be alone. "hey, jensen"

clay jensen got off his bike, so he can walk next to her, his bike being pushed by his hands. "how are you?" he asked skeptically.

"i'm okay. how are you doing?" she replied, wishing he could leave her to her thoughts.

"i'm good, i'm good." he replied. an awkward silence fell upon them, clay knew he shouldn't get involved, but jeff was his friends. "i know this isn't any of my business, but is everything okay with you and jeff?" maeve stopped in her tracks, she glanced at clay. "he called me on saturday asking if i've heard from you. he's worried."

maeve felt like an asshole. the last thing she wanted was to hurt jeff's feelings. he didn't deserve this. "why would he be worried?" she tried her hardest not to let the tears verge in her eyes

clay glared at her in a are you serious look. "i don't know, maybe because his girlfriend has been ignoring him for the past three days?"

just before maeve could even respond, a car pulls up beside the two. the person honks their horn, catching their attention. both clay and maeve look over to see conrad booker.

conrad rolled down his passenger window. "yo, maeve do you need a ride?" he asks. as he was driving by, he caught eye of the short blonde and the distress look on her face.

maeve looked between clay and conrad. she didn't have to courage to answer clay, so she took the easy route. "uh— yeah." she replied before looking at clay "i'm sorry clay, i'll— i'll see you third period."

before she could leave, clay spoke up "don't apologize to me, apologize to jeff. he thinks you don't love him anymore." he said before getting on his bike and pedaling away.

maeve couldn't hold back the tears anymore, as soon as a tear fell she immediately wiped it away and got into conrad's car.

as he began to drive, he glanced over to maeve. she hand her elbow propped against the window, her head leaned against her hand, and her eyes were looking out the window. jeff had also told conrad that maeve was ignoring him and how he didn't know why. the blue eyed blond already figured clay jensen questioned maeve, based on her distress face. so he opted not to say anything. they sat in comfortable silence.

as soon as they pulled into the school parking lot, maeve spotted jeff by the tables outside. he was next to a few of the baseball players. he was laughing at something troy said. god she missed that smile.

conrad was first to get out of his car, then it was maeve. she rounded the car and walked over to conrad. "thank you for the ride, connie."

he smiled at her. "no worries. it seemed like you needed some saving from jensen." he shrugs.

what the two didn't know was that jeff saw them. as soon as maeve stepped out of conrad's car, jeff spotted her. he felt betrayed. on saturday, when jeff called conrad asking if he has seen maeve, conrad said he hadn't seen her since that afternoon on friday. yet here he was watching his girlfriend get out of his best friend's car.

maeve let out a dry chuckle, she nodded. "something like that."

conrad nodded. before he left, he had to tell her something "i know i'm nobody to tell you this, but... can you please talk to jeff. i don't know exactly what happened between you two, but he's beating himself up about it."

before maeve could even reply, conrad was harshly pushed. maeve was taken back, she turned to see a very upset jeff atkins. "so this is the reason you've been ignoring me the past few days?" he aggressively spat out, glaring at the two.

"jeff, man—" conrad tried to intervene, but was cut off when a fist collided against his cheek; knocking him onto the ground.

"you were my best friend, man! i came to you!" he spat out as he glared at conrad. he turned back to maeve who was in the verge of tears. he shook his head "i never would've expected this from you... in every universe my ass" and with that he stormed out.

a small crowd started to form, but the bell rung and every scattered. she quickly turned to conrad, "i'm so sorry, i'll fix this. i promise." she told him before running after jeff who was heading towards his car.

"jeff!" she shouted. trying her hardest to make him stop.

maeve sighs, before running as fast as she could. once she was able to reach him, she grab his bicep. "jeff, please!" she spoke out of breath.

jeff snatched his bicep from her hold. "what the fuck do you want, maeve?" he blurted.

"jeff—, please just let me explain!" she argued with tears running down her cheeks

"what is there to explain?" he shouted. jeff has never been aggressive nor has he ever shouted at her. "i saw it all! i can't believe you'd cheat on me with my fucking best friend." he said sounding so defeated.

maeve shook her head, as she took a hold of his hand. "jeff, that's not true!" he snatched his hand again. "just please listen to me. let me explain everything!" she pleads

no matter how upset he was, jeff never liked to see maeve cry. so he didn't respond, he stayed silent. maeve took the opportunity to explain "okay, yes i've been ignoring you. but it's not because i cheated on you." she took a deep breath, her heart felt as if it were to beat out of her chest.

"then what is it?" jeff scoffs

maeve bit on her bottom lip as she glanced to the ground, before glancing back at his hurt expression. "i'm pregnant." it was the first time maeve had actually said it out loud or to anyone. "i didn't know how to tell you. i'm so sorry."

jeff's eyes widen in shock and he stayed silent.

"i was walking to school when clay saw me. he started confronting me and i felt so horrible. conrad saw me and clay. he noticed how sad i was and he offered me a ride. but there is nothing going on between conrad and i. i promise."

jeff still wasn't saying anything. "i wanted to tell you, but i was scared. heck, i still am. a baby is a big responsibility, jeff. we're only sophomores, for god's sake. a baby wasn't exactly in our plans... at least not yet." she explained. yet she remembered all the times they'd talk about having children in their future.

maeve started getting worried at his silence. did he not want this baby? she thought to herself. "jeff—" she spoke as her voice trembled

maeve saw as a tear rolled down his cheek, he took a few steps forwards and hugged her. he rested his chin against her head, as she rested her head against his chest. they hugged each other tightly.

nobody was around, everyone was in class... it was just them in the parking lot. "i-i thought you didn't want to be together anymore." he admitted

maeve's heart shattered. she brought her head up to look at him "when i said, i love you in every universe. i meant it, jeff atkins."

a small grin made its way to his lips. "i love you too...forever and ever... and in every universe" he admits as he hugged her again as if she was his lifeline... in a way, she was. "i don't know what i'd do without you, maeve cyrus."

"i don't know what i'd do without you either." she admits.

"i'm sorry i yelling at you, i didn't mean to." he mumbled "god, i have to apologize to conrad."

maeve chuckled. "you were pretty intimidating, but i must say, you looked very hot." she admits.

the two had completely forgotten about school, it was just them in this moment. reality had set in for jeff atkins, he was going to be a dad. he pulls away slightly to look down at his girl. he had a soft smile on his lips "so we're having a baby huh?" he then remembered he couldn't decide that for her. "if that's what you want."

maeve just nodded and smiled "we're having a baby."
