Chapter 5
CJ
It's nine o'clock and I just got back from my date. I smile as I get out of the car and make my way inside. As I close the door behind me, I hear footsteps growing louder and louder.
"How'd it go!" AJ yell as she runs down the stairs.
"It went amazing," I tell her with the biggest smile on my face.
"That's great! It wasn't awkward at all?"
"Not one bit. It was like there was nothing different between us."
"This should be proof to the Gems that Silvers aren't so different."
"I hope, but that isn't the only reason I like her."
"I know," AJ says.
"Good because I really like her," he says.
"Okay, Lover Boy."
"Wow! You've been around JJ too long."
"I know. Well, I'm going to bed. Oh! JJ said to call him when you got home."
"Aren't his brothers asleep?"
"He said to call him!" she yells from her room.
"Ok. Ok," I say, "night, AJ."
"Night!"
Before I can make my way upstairs, my phone rings.
"Hello?" "Yeah. "Okay." "Thanks." "Feel better." "Night."
Yeah! The shop is closed tomorrow due to the boss being sick! I laugh as I make my way to my room and close the door. I get ready to turn in for the night then pick up my phone to call JJ.
"Hey, Lover Boy," he greets.
"You're a terrible influence on my sister," I laugh.
"I know. It's a gift. Enough about me. How was the date?"
"The date was amazing. The night was amazing. And she was and still is amazing."
"That's great...someone's coming. Talk tomorrow?"
"Yeah. Night."
He hangs up and I lay on my bead as I look up to the ceiling. A smile creeps on my face as I think to how my parents met. It was somewhat like the situation I'm in now. Their families were both Silvers; however, they didn't get along whatsoever. My parents had to sneak out every night like Ruby and I. They used to compare it to a really old story. Romeo and Juliet. I hope they would be proud of me. I've tried to hard to be the son they wanted. I miss them. They passed of an illness that was spreading through the Silver side of town. AJ got it too but managed to recover somehow. Doctors say it was a miracle. I say it was my parents giving the rest of their lives to her.
I sigh as I think about the story of Romeo and Juliet and the legend the Gems believe in. I hope this will be proof to the world that Silvers and Gems can get along.

As I lie in bed for the next couple hours, not being able to sleep, a thought comes to me. I should write Ruby a song. I jump off of my bed and run to my desk. I pull out a pen and paper and begin to jot down ideas for her song. I pull out my guitar I haven't played in years and try to play again. I sound a little rusty but nothing I can't fix. I play for what feels like hours until I'm satisfied with the way I sound. I then play the song I wrote for her until I perfect it.
After about three hours, I finally fall asleep.

I wake up around 9:30 and make my way downstairs.
"Shouldn't you be at work?" AJ asks.
"Closed for the day," I answer, "shouldn't you be at work?"
"It's Saturday. Closed on the weekends."
"Right."
I sit with AJ as we eat our cereal and talk about our weekend plans. After breakfast I go back upstairs, grab my guitar, and come back down then make my way to the door.
"Have fun serenading your girlfriend!" AJ calls after me.
"Will do!" I yell back.
I then exit the apartment and make my way to my beetle. I place the guitar in the passenger seat, put on my seatbelt, and sigh. I hope she enjoys this because I don't know if I will. I then turn on the car and drive towards the park.
