Meanwhile...

After shopping with Sapphire for a dress for tonight's date, we sit at a table, enjoying a nice pizza lunch. All I can think about is my date with CJ later tonight; however, I feel uncomfortable talking with her about it due to her negative opinion of Silvers. I am trying to think of a way to tell her.

"So any plans tonight?" I ask.

"I am going to meet up with Diamond and watch some movies," she answers, "how about you?"

"Oh nothing much," I respond.

"They why did you buy that expensive dress?"

"I have a date tonight."

"With who?!"

"Oh, you would not know him."

"Okay. Then what does he look like," she tells me.

"Well, he is blonde-" I start.

"You are going out with Gold! I am so jealous! He is so rich and handsome and rich and-"

"It is not Gold."

"Then who is it?"

"He has beautiful eyes."

"What color?" She asks.

"Gray," I whisper.

"I am sorry. Did you say gray?"

"Yes."

"You are going on a date with a Silver? Is he the one you were talking to earlier?"

"Yes."

I am scared. I know what she is thinking but I do not want to hear it. Minutes have passed and she is just sitting there eating her pizza.

"Do you realize what you are doing?" She finally questions.

"Yes, but I do not want to hear it," I tell her, "Spinel has already tried to talk me out of going and it did not work."

"But Ruby-"

"I am going and that is that."

"Okay."

She finishes her pizza, gets up, and leaves. She did not say a word. I am hoping I did not just ruin a friendship. I sigh and quickly finish my pizza and head up to my room to get ready for my date tonight.

I decide to wear my hair curled in a half up half down style, a nice red maxi-dress, and black pumps. I am so nervous, I know everyone in my life is against me going out with him. However, I am finally listening to my heart instead of pleasing everyone like I always do.

My phone goes off and I see a text from Sapphire. I have not seen nor talked to her since she stormed out.

Sapphire: You do not have to go.

Me: I know I do not have to but I want to.

Sapphire: Okay, just be careful.

Me: Always am.

I say my goodbyes to Sapphire and that is when Spinel walked in.

"What are you trying to prove?" He questions.

"What do you mean?" I ask, confused.

"Why are you going out with him?"

"Because he seems like a nice guy and I want to give Silvers a chance."

"Why?"

"Because everyone deserves a chance despite who they are."

He just looks at me with no emotion and leaves. I do not know how to feel. I look at the clock and notice it is 6:45. I'm supposed to meet CJ in fifteen minutes. Am I ready to give a Silver a chance?

Fifteen minutes pass as I wait for CJ at the park. Where is he?

Out of nowhere, I hear a car horn and turn to see CJ driving up in an old-fashion, silver beetle. A huge smile makes it's way on my face. I've never seen anything so amazing. Not even my brother's mustang could top this.

"Ready to go?" he asks as he opens the car door for me.

"Where are we going?" I question as I take my seat.

"Just wait and see."

It is 7:15, I must be home by 8:30. We are still not at the restaurant and we are now on the Silver side of town, which makes me a bit nervous.

"Is it much farther?" I ask.

"About 5 more minutes," he responds.

"Can you at least tell me where we are eating?"

"Nope. I want to surprise you."

  I pout, he smiles, and I can not help but smile.  

"Can you at least tell me if it is safe for us to be there together?"

"No need to worry, Ruby. It's perfectly safe."

About five minutes pass and we stop in front of the cutest little restaurant I have ever seen. It is covered in vines and flowers of all kinds. It is very small, maybe about only fifteen tables. It is amazing, it is wonderful, it is perfect.

"Table for two," CJ says, "there should be a reservation under Shine."

"Yes," says the host, who is a Gem, "right this way."

I look around the restaurant more and see workers who are both Gems and Silvers. This place is amazing. We get seated at a table with an amazing view. We decided to order a salad to share and each got our own sandwiches.

"Is this a place for Gems or Silvers?" I finally ask.

"This is a place where both coexist as equals," he tells me, "the Gems who work here lost their jobs on the Gem side of town so the Silvers let them get appartments over here. I've always loved this part of town. No one looks down on one another and everything is peaceful."

"I wish all of the town was like this."

"Maybe someday."

We then start getting to know each other. After about ten minutes of casual questions, he asks something I did not really want to answer.

"So what made you decide to ask me on a date?" he asks.

"I felt bad about hitting you with the basketball," I tell him.

"There has got to be more."

"Um...well...when we first met...I thought you were really charming."

"Really?"

"Yes."

We both blush and continue our conversation. I did not know how much we could have in common. He looks so handsome, he is charming. How could Gems hate Silvers so much?
