Chapter 3
CJ
It's been two days since I saw Ruby. Two days since I've seen the most beautiful girl ever. I don't know anything about her, don't know anything she's thinking, yet, all I know is that I want, no, I need to see her again. I need to see her beautiful smile and look into her cherry red eyes. I really hope she feels the same way I feel about her. But, for now, I'm stuck at work.
I'm currently working on a cherry red motorcycle that was dropped off before I got to work. The owner should be coming any minute so I need to fix the breaks as soon as possible. All I need to do put the engine cover back on. Done. I take a step back to admire my work when my back hits someone. I turn to see a boy with purple hair and eyes. Spinel. The worst Gem of them all.
"Watch where you are walking, Silver," Spinel says, "would not want you to get hurt. Oh wait, I would."
Why do most Gems have to be jerks? I mean seriously. Would it kill them to be nice for once?
"How about you watch where you stand, Gem," I reply, "you shouldn't even be back here anyway."
"I know you are a Silver and all," he states, "but I thought you knew how to show some respect for your superiors."
"You're not my superior," I argue, "and I only show respect to those who deserve it."
He steps closer to me and gets up in my face. I want to back up due to how bad his breath smells; however, I knew that backing up would result in him thinking he's better than me and he already has a big head.
Just then, the door opens and Ruby enters and walks towards the cherry red bike. My attention turns from Spinel to Ruby. Due to this, I don't have time to react before he punches me in the stomach.
"Work on your concentration, Silver," he hisses, "and do not ever stare at a Gem like that."
When he's gone, I gather myself and walk over to Ruby with a smile.
"Nice bike, huh," I say, "wonder who it belongs to."
"It is my bike," she responds, "I am glad you like it so much."
"This is your bike?"
"Yes."
"Huh. Didn't think a girl like you would ride a bike."
"A girl like me?"
"Beautiful, sweet, innocent," I reply.
"I am surprised you think that, because I am beautiful, I cannot ride a motorcycle," she retaliates, "this is not the time of princes and princesses. A girl can do anything in this day and age."
"I have insulted you," I tease, "how can I make up to you, my lady?"
"How about a date?" she asks, "pick me up at seven?"
I'm taken aback by this, but I smile in order to hide my shock.
"Sounds like a plan," I respond, "where should I pick you up?"
"On second thought," Ruby says, "maybe we should meet somewhere."
"Good call."
We exchange phone numbers, then share smile and hug.
"So, where do you wanna meet tonight?" I ask.
"Well, we cannot be seen together on the Gem side of town," she says.
"Or the Silver side."
"What if we meet in the middle?"
"Where is the middle?"
"The park. Behind the wall of trees. No one will see us there. We'll decide where to go then."
"I'll cya then," I tell her.
"I am looking forward to it," she states.
She gets on her bike and starts it. She smiles at me again then drives off. We know what we're doing is against everything both of our people believe in, but we don't care. There's something inside both of us that is pulling us together. It's as if the universe wants us together. And who am I to argue with the universe.
I walk to the back room feeling as if I could walk in air. I'm so excited about tonight, but I'm also extremely nervous. A Gem and a Silver...going on a date. This could either be amazing or be horrible.
I'm surprised that she said yes. The Gems believe in this crazy legend about the offspring of a Gem and a Silver having magic and being evil. The Silvers just believe that the offspring will have the magical abilities and the abilities of both peoples as well as look like both as kinds of people. I hope our beliefs are the right and not the Gems'.
The next thing I knew, someone grabs me and puts me in a headlock. Whoever it really needs to take a shower. Shower...Spinel.
"Listen, Silver," Spinel hisses, "you are not to date my sister."
"Listen, Gem!" I yell, "you can't tell me what to do!"
I'm trying to get out of the headlock; however, he's surprisingly strong.
"I'm telling you," he demands, "do not go out with her."
"Let go!" I yell.
He releases me and I turn to him.
"Now listen," I say, annoyed, "I will go out with her, we will have a good time, and you will leave me alone. Do you understand?"
We are both surprised by what I said. I've never talked to a Gem that way. Come to think of it, I've never talked to anyone like that before. By the look on his face, I assume he's never been talked to that way.
Then he did something I never thought he'd do. He nodded.
"I will not try to stop you," he tells me, "but do not expect me to let Ruby go without me trying to convince her otherwise."
He storms off, leaving me there still trying to comprehend what just happened. I start to head home, knowing that Spinel will do anything in his power to stop us from getting together tonight. I hope he will just let us be.

On my way home, I feel as if I'm being watched. I turn around and see nothing, so I continue. Five minutes later I turn around again and see a girl with blue hair as she tries to hide behind a wall. She looks familiar. All I know about her is that I've seen her around town. She realizes I saw her so she comes out from behind the wall and just glares at me. I start to walk towards her but she just sprints off. I stand there for a moment, watching her run away, then I continue on my way.
What is going on? First Spinel attacks me and now I'm being stalked. They can't really believe the legend...can they?
