37 | First Day Out

Judah stared down at Kianna who was finally getting some rest after delivering a baby yesterday afternoon, almost a full 24 hours ago. She had only been asleep for half an hour now, and he could tell that she really needed the rest. She was so drained.

Their daughter was lying on her bare chest, awake, but quiet because of the nipple in her mouth. She was just now calming down after crying for an hour straight. Although slightly annoying, it was the most beautiful sound Judah had ever heard.

He still couldn't believe she was real. She was so perfect.

"It smells good." Kianna mumbled quietly, making Judah's eyebrows furrow. He could've sworn she was sleep.

"Mama cooking you breakfast. How you feeling? Can I get you somethin'?" He asked, gently kissed her forehead at the same time that her eyes opened.

"I'm ok stinky. I have to pee though, can you help me up, please?" She didn't even have to fully ask her question before Judah was out of the bed, walking over to her side to help her stand.

He watched her face scrunch up once she was on her feet, and the expression remained as they walked very slowly to the bathroom. The aftermath of birth was worse than the actual labor. Kianna had never been endured this much pain before.

When they finally made it to the bathroom, Kianna kept their baby to her chest while Judah pulled down the diaper that she wore before guiding her to sit down on the toilet. She closed her legs as she relieved her bladder in an attempt to soothe her cramps, but to no avail.

Judah rolled the diaper up and put it into a plastic bag before disposing of it in a small metal bin that was specifically being used for Kianna and Princess Kiyanna's diapers. The next thing he did was go back into their bedroom closet where a mini freezer was, and he grabbed a 'padsicle' out of it.

In the midst of severe nesting last week, Kianna made enough padiscle's to completely fill one of the deep freezers in the garage, and Judah ordered a mini freezer to keep some in their room for easier access. The second deep freezer would be used to store milk.

A padsicle was just a frozen pad with 100% pure aloe Vera gel and alcohol free witch hazel, but both substances assisted with relieving inflammation and acute pain, as well as helped reduced the swelling and bruising of Kianna's vagina-which was a huge life saver at the moment.

After sticking the padsicle inside of the diaper, Judah helped Kianna put her feet into the two small openings. Then, he wiped her himself, getting her as clean as he possibly could. The blood didn't seem to stop though, but it didn't worry him too much because Kataleya told them that was completely normal for the first few days after birth.

"Thank you so much." Kianna mumbled, tilting her head back for a kiss when he helped her stand up again.

"You don't have to thank me. This what I'm here for." He told her, and she smiled, satisfied with his words and the kiss he gave her.

By the time she got back in the bed, her whole body felt even sorer than before. It was all worth it for Princess Kiyanna though.

"You wanna hold her stink?" Kianna asked, and he nodded as if he'd been waiting for her to ask him that for a while now.

Judah looked down at Princess once she was passed over to him, making sure to support the weight of her head. She stared up at him with almond shaped honey brown eyes; identical to her mother's. He already knew this little girl was about to run his pockets just by looking at her. He would get her whatever she wanted.

Her tongue and lips had remnants of breast milk on them, and she seemed to suck on her own tongue as if Kianna's nipple was still in her mouth.

"She's so hairy, huh? She gets that from you. Look, she literally has your unibrow already and her eyebrows ain't even there yet." Kianna pointed, causing a wide smile to grow on his face.

"That shit cool as fuck. Niggas 'bouta start crying again." His tone was so soft as he swallowed the small lump in his throat.

Kianna pulled his head down a bit to leave kisses on his cheek before making herself comfortable on his chest next to their baby. He stared down at the both of them, clearly mesmerized at what was his.

When he counted his blessings, he would make sure to count both of them twice. He must've been God's favorite to get blessed back to back like this.

Both of their heads turned when Maria knocked on their door that was already opened, walking in seconds later with a breakfast in bed tray, a plate of food and a bottle of water. That made Kianna sit up almost immediately. She was starving.

"Ok baby, I got you some french toast wrapped sausage, eggs, grits, bacon and strawberry toaster strudels. I want you to drink water but do you want something else too? OJ or apple juice?" Maria asked, setting up the tray over Kianna's lap.

"No ma'am, water is fine. Thank you so much. I appreciate you ma." She reached up to give her a hug, smiling as Maria lightly squeezed her back.

"I will do anything for you my pretty baby. How's Princess? Everything alright?" She carried the second plate over to Judah's side of the bed, sitting it down on his nightstand.

He could tell that she wanted to hold her, so he carefully laid her down in Maria's arms.

A pout instantly took over her face as she stared down at her very first granddaughter, trying not to cry. She was so beautiful and Maria was so overwhelmed with the fact that she was a grandma again.

It seemed like Princess Kiyanna made everyone cry because Abel, Elijah, and Amina all cried the first time they held her as well. Kianna loved how much everyone loved her baby.

"Hey my granny baby, I love you so much already. You so stinking fat and stuff. So pretty, baby." Maria cooed to her, rubbing softly under her chubby cheeks.

Being fat was an understatement. Princess weighed nine pounds and 12 ounces at birth, and was 19 1/4 inches long. She was so chunky that it surprised Kataleya, the midwife, that Kianna was able to get her out in one singular push.

"You know, Judah was almost eleven pounds when he was born. I think all of your babies will come out bigger than normal because of him." Maria gestured to her son, now sitting near Kianna with Princess still in her arms.

"Lord please just send the flood now." She pretended like she was exhausted just thinking about it, making Maria laugh while Judah rolled his eyes at the both of them.

"I'm gonna go clean up the mess I made in the kitchen. Y'all call if y'all need me, you hear? I ain't going nowhere." Maria laid Princess down in the portable crib on Kianna's side of the bed while both of them responded with 'yes ma'am's'.

"You hungry, ain't it?" Judah smiled, focusing in on Kianna once their bedroom door shut.

"As fuck. It feels like I haven't ate in weeks." She picked up the french toast wrapped sausage, dangling it over her mouth so that the syrup didn't spill as she took a bite.

Judah didn't get to reply because Princess let out a small whine and Kianna was up on her feet faster than he could blink. She left her plate of the dresser, raising her baby up out of the crib to lay her against her chest again.

"You so beautiful girl." He said to her.

"Really? In my diaper and tank top?" She smiled, and it grew when he nodded his head.

"Thank you baby. She's pooping. I'm excited." Kianna sat down once more, able to feel the turds dropping into Princess's diaper.

"It's the first one and before the 24 hour mark like Kat said." Judah nodded in satisfaction after checking the time on his phone.

"Mommy so proud of you pumpkin. You smell so good baby." She cooed to her while lightly patting her back, only for Princess to let out a small burp in response.

"She showing out." He shook his head at her, taking a bite out of the eggs on his plate.

Judah got out of the bed to walk into the closet, grabbing a new diaper, a pack of baby wipes and a fresh onesie so that Kianna wouldn't get up because he knew she'd attempt to. He didn't even want her walking to the bathroom until she felt better; he'd rather carry her there and back each time.

He even bought a wheelchair for when she wanted to go downstairs. He didn't want her walking all the way to the elevator or even thinking about taking the stairs.

"Wassup fat mama? You all done?" Judah took her from Kianna to lay her down in her crib again, unbuttoning the white onesie that she wore.

"She tired. Finally. Hopefully she let you get some real sleep." He said to Kianna as he pulled the onesie off.

"I don't mind staying up. I like looking at her." She used the dresser to aid her in standing up, wanting to watch Judah change her diaper.

"Baby," Kianna then called, and Judah hummed to let her know that he was listening.

"Can we get a dog?" She asked.

"A dog?" He repeated as if he didn't hear her the first time.

"Yes, a dog." She mocked the way that he said it, making him smile.

"Yeah baby. We can get a dog. Why you want one?"

"I want a little puppy to grow up with her. I want it for my push gift so you don't have to get me anything else, I just want the dog. A big breed though, not a little one-no poodles or anything."

"No push gift?"

"Stop repeating what I'm saying. You hear me." She stale-faced him, and he laughed, picking up a now cleaned off Princess from her crib.

"Aight mama. I'll get you a dog. Whatever you want." He leaned his head down to give her a kiss, to which she returned.

"Hey, y'all, Kianna's father is here. And he brought gifts." Maria's voice came from the speaker in their bedroom, and Judah's face instantly hardened into a mug.

He couldn't front like he hadn't forgotten all about that. He was pissed all over again.

Over the last few months, Matteo came to visit around two or three times a month just to check in on Kianna and he brought gifts or money each time that he came. They'd formed a small relationship during this time, and Kianna had slight hope that he would changed his mind about wanting to put a device in her baby's arm. Clearly, he hadn't.

"I'm sor-,"

"It's good. C'mon, let me help you." Judah cut Kiyanna off before she could apologize, leaning over to grab her sweats from the floor.

She knew that he was upset so she decided not to say anything else. It was her fault and she accepted the blame completely, and she wouldn't force him to forgive her because she understood where his anger came from.

When her sweats were back on, Judah pushed her to the elevator in the wheelchair, still holding Princess up against his chest. She was slowly beginning to doze off, scratching lightly at his back that was exposed in his muscle shirt.

His feelings were hurt just thinking about what was about to happen.

As soon as they stepped off the elevator, Kianna saw all of the dark red rose bouquets that took up the entire space of her living room. On the coffee table were three briefcases, all opened and displaying bands of cash. Nothing that made her feel better about a health device being implanted in her daughter, but she appreciated the gesture anyway.

There were also orange Hermés boxes, black Chanel boxes, and some from brands she didn't even recognize.

A smile did happen to escape when she saw two black and one dark blue stroller with matching portable bassinets and car seats, stuffed with boxes of diapers, baby wipes, and clothes that she couldn't quite see all the way.

"My love, how are you?" Matteo greeted Kiyanna first, holding his hand out to help her stand from the wheelchair.

"I'm okay. It just happened so I'm still processing that she's actually here." She chuckled, glancing over at Princess.

"May I?" Matteo asked Judah, holding a slightly unnoticeable but nerve wracking glare in his eye as if he was daring Judah to tell him no.

He used the crease of his elbow to support the back of Princess's head, staring down at a baby that was scarily identical to the same baby he held almost twenty-five years ago. It was like he was holding his first and only child all over again; his princess had given birth to one of her own.

"Such a beautiful girl. Isa would love her." He said the last part mostly to himself, but it made Kianna emotional anyway. She reached up to wipe her tears away before it could fall, mentally telling herself not to cry.

She couldn't help but to let them fall when she seen one lone tear slip down her father's cheek while he stared down at her daughter. She was so relieved that her child would get to have the relationship with her father that would always be there for her; a relationship that Kianna once craved with her own father.

"Oh, sweet girl. Meriti la luna e ogni stella del cielo." He mumbled, telling her that she deserved the moon and every star in the sky.

"After much consideration, I have decided to back out, my love." He then looked back at Kianna, before gazing over at Judah as his expression slowly softened.

"There comes a time when one understands that this," he looked down at Princess again, "a baby that is loved is more important than such silly traditions.. I will allow her to live her own life; under one condition," He paused, and both Kianna and Judah waited patiently for him to finish his sentence.

"If it is ok with you two, I would like to attend as many birthdays and holidays as possible-first day of school, all of it.. and if anything happens, even if she scrapes her knee or chips a nail, I need to be made aware. Understood?"

This time, Kianna looked over at Judah to allow him to make the decision. After all, Princess was as much of his daughter as she was Kianna's.

"Yeah. Thank you. I appreciate it." Judah held his hand out, clasping it with Matteo's in a firm handshake while a smile spread across Kianna's face.

"Thank you so much." Kianna wrapped her arms around him in a hug that caught him off guard, but he wasted no time to hug her back with his free arm.

"You have a wonderful gift here, my love. A child is worth more than any amount of money in the world. I am so proud of you. She is lucky to have you, as you are to have her. I almost already love her more than I do my own child, but nothing will ever amount to how much I love you." He told her, causing her eyes to water further.

"I love you too, dad. Thank you." And Kianna really meant it when she said that.

Matteo hugged her as tightly as possible without hurting Princess who was between them, and Kianna wiped his tears away for him when they separated. She so wished she could form a bond with her mother too, but she didn't mind settling for him.

He was trying and that's all that mattered to her.

Judah laid Princess's face in the crook of his neck when she was back in his arms, and he kissed the top of her head while silently thanking God for answering his prayers; a prayer he quite literally just prayed for a few minutes ago in the elevator.

"Make sure I get a personal invitation to the wedding, eh?" Matteo patted Judah's shoulder twice, and he nodded with a low chuckle.

Soon after saying his goodbyes to them and to Maria as well, Matteo left the house, alone. Usually he had a few men with him, but he wanted to respect the privacy of his newborn granddaughter and her parents. Kianna really appreciated that.

"Thank you." She said to Judah as he lifted her feet from the ground to help her ease her legs back into bed a while later.

They had the house to themselves again for now, but Maria promised to bring them dinner tonight so neither of them had to worry about cooking and cleaning while caring for their baby at the same time.

"You welcome. Here." He reached into his pocket, and she smiled big as he pulled out a cosmic brownie.

"I love you so much." She mumbled, cradling the side of his face as they shared a kiss.

"I love you more my baby."
