"Siren, wait!"

She hurries around the corner, out of Thomas's sight. "Wait!" He yelps again, rushing after the girl.

Unfortunately for her, Thomas is fast and manages to grab her arm right before she slips past another corner. "Siren! Why are you running?"

"You should stay away from me."

"What- what do you mean? Did I do something wrong?"

She shakes her head. "I... no— just leave."

Last night, when she was lying in her bed and everything was quiet, she remembered suddenly: Thomas is the one she was supposed to kill. He'd be dead right now if she had obeyed to Jorge.

But Jorge wouldn't have told her to kill him for no reason— he's bad. He was doing something bad. Something about a project that needed to be stopped.

"I thought we could be friends," he says, a little pout appearing.

She swallows deeply. Friends. The one thing she has longed for since forever. "I can't."

"Why not?"

"I don't trust you."

"I can earn your trust after some time, right?"

"No. I don't want any friends."

"Why not?" He asks again, his voice even softer. "Have you ever had friends before? If you did, you'll know it's amazing!"

"My best friend was nice for many years until he realized I was old enough to understand the pain of his betrayal," she states.

Even though Thomas tries to hide it, his face falls. "Who was your best friend?"

"I don't want to talk about him."

"Oh. Okay. But can we still be friends? Please?"

The girl squints her eyes.

"Please?" He repeats, pouting.

"Fine."
