Chapter One
Sidekicks No More

Days spent in Reeves Labs were long and boring. There were very few things Charlotte could do to quench her boredom, namely; counting the tiles on the ceiling, reciting lyrics from whatever song Hank had been playing that morning, playing rock-paper-scissors through the window, where a doctor was always stationed to keep track of her energy levels. And Charlotte always had too much energy.

ย  She needed to expel it somehow. Usually, Hank would have been in the room instructing her to light individual items, but he hadn't checked on her today. Charlotte was left to allow it to build into a boil. One that made her skin itch.

ย  "So, Samantha" Charlotte began from where she laid upside down off the side of her bed. The white scrubs that matched Dr. Miller's, wrinkled in a way that had the woman scowling behind her clipboard. "When will Father be in? I have a meeting with the JL today. Y'know big plans and all."

ย  Dr. Miller shook her head in slight annoyance, pressing down on a button to allow her voice to flow through the speakers installed in the room. "Soon." She glanced down at the papers in front of her. Images of every sidekick known by the public; Speedy, Aqualad, Robin, Kid Flash. Even Pyro, the girl on the opposite side of the window. "You still have not learned patience."

ย  Charlotte flipped her legs over so she was now standing. She skipped over to the window, banging her hands against it till Dr. Miller jumped. "C'mon, go get my Father. I can't be late." She banged the glass again and again, causing the woman to huff and walk away. Charlotte grinned in triumph while spinning back around.

ย  Pulling the scrub top off to reveal her orange and yellow suit beneath, the teen felt free โ€” despite being locked in the white room. Next came the pants, which she threw till the articles of clothing were scattered.

ย  Time felt slow as Charlotte waited, sitting on the edge of her unkempt bed. She fiddled with the tight fabric around her wrists. A heavy sigh leaving her lips as doctors in lab-coats walked past her room. Her prison. She began tapping her foot against the tiles at a fast speed till all that could be heard were the click of her boots.

ย  Finally, her door opened. A man in his late thirties stood in the arch, his red hair contrasting with his pale skin. Far paler than Charlotte's who had a pinkish tone. "I hear you've been impatient," Hank narrowed his eyes on his daughter.

ย  "Bea is waiting for me."

ย  "Ms. Costa is used to you not showing up on time." He pushed a loose strand of hair behind his ear. "But, we can't have you missing this opportunity. Now can we?" His tone was laced with condescension.

ย  Charlotte tried keeping her hands at her side and anger from showing. She always hated when others talked down to her, when they treated her less than what she was. Hank wanted her to be a god yet he was always holding her back. How was she supposed to become a reliable hero when he was constantly keeping her on a leash. Keeping her locked away from the world.

ย  "Charlotte," Hank took her hands in his, feeling the heat of them seeping into his bones with a small hiss. She was frustrated. "Remember dear, you return to me. You keep this facility a secret."

ย  Charlotte rolled her eyes, "I know the rules."

ย  Hank releases her with a dark look in his usually bright eyes. It made him appear unfriendly, and he was โ€” on occasion. "Go, make me proud."

ย  Running through the silent halls the girl with vibrant hair couldn't stop herself from smiling. Her lips stretched thin, her pearly white teeth on full display as she picked up speed. She maneuvered between the doctors, careful not to touch them as she made her exit. She was free.

Charlotte stood outside the Hall of Justice with her mentor, Fire, behind her. She anxiously picked at the skin around her thumb, biting down on the inside of her cheek. She had been tapping her foot earlier but Robin schooled her with a look. Not that she stopped because of him, no, it was his mentor's burning gaze that had her feet planted on the ground. Something about not wanting to appear too nervous.

ย  They had been waiting for the speedsters to show up. They may have been the fastest, yet always appeared late. It was comical at times. But now? No, Charlotte was ready to jump the boy and turn him into a fried kabob.

ย  "Oh man," Kid Flash groaned as he and Flash came to a stop behind the line of heroes. All of which turned to face them. "I knew we'd be the last ones here."

ย  The group began their short adventure to the stairs of the Hall, hearing cheers and questions being thrown at them. It was a little annoying having people screaming for Charlotte's attention but Fire seemed to enjoy it as she posed for the flashing cameras. It was easy to forget that Fire had been a model, one that was constantly in the limelight.

ย  "Pyro, over here!" Charlotte put on a smile and waved her hands, dropping it as soon as she faced forward.

ย  "Fire, Pyro, can I get a picture?" A camera flashed in their faces.

ย  The teen looked up at her mentor, a flicker of impatience passing through her deep brown eyes. Fire cast her an encouraging grin. Urging her to bask in the fame.

ย  But, Charlotte did not like being the center of attention. She liked her privacy โ€” which wasn't much with a team of doctors constantly following her and snooping where they shouldn't. Not even her identity was private. No, Hank made sure she had no identity outside of Pyro. Pyro and Charlotte were one in the same, a public figure despite her desire to be in the shadows.

ย  Charlotte kept her head held high as she walked through the crowd. Keeping her mask of gratitude in place. In actuality, she would rather be back in that white room than be around screaming fans.

ย  "I'm glad we're all here," she heard Aqualad say.

ย  "Have all five sidekicks ever been in the same place at the same time?" Kid Flash asked.

ย  Speedy snapped at the speedster with his eyes narrowed behind the mask, "Don't call us sidekicks, not after today."

ย  Charlotte didn't have a problem being called a sidekick. She actually liked working under Fire. She was comfortable in her position, the same could not be said for Speedy however. The girl with fire in her veins allowed a smirk to tug at her lips. "It's not after today, we're still in today."

ย  The eldest of the sidekicks looked down at her with a scowl, one that only excited the girl. "Still stands."

ย  "Sorry," Kid Flash grimaced, casting his eyes down at his feet in embarrassment. "First time at the Hall. I'm a little overwhelmed."

ย  "You're overwhelmed, Freeze was underwhelmed." Robin sighed deeply, "Why isn't anyone ever just whelmed?"

ย  Walking inside the Hall, the first thing Charlotte took notice of were the bronze statues lined up, ranging from Aquaman to Martian Manhunter. It wasn't as exciting as she thought it would be, but it wasn't underwhelming. She didn't know what she was expecting when Fire said she was taking her to the headquarters of the Justice League. Charlotte did know it was most likely a publicity stunt, one of the many reasons Hank did not chastise her for agreeing.

ย  Fire wasn't keen on the idea of using Charlotte but she couldn't exactly tell the League no to bring her protege along. She thought the girl would have been excited to be at the Hall, but maybe she was just happy to be out of the house.

ย  The doors to the entrance opened with a hiss, revealing Red Tornado and Martian Manhunter. "Robin, Speedy, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Pyro." Manhunter greeted in a thick voice. "Welcome."

ย  The group followed after him as he continued to speak. "You now have unlimited access to the gym," now that was something Charlotte would use. "Our fully stocked galley, and of course, our library." He gestured around the room he had led them into.

ย  "Make yourselves at home." Flash smiled welcomingly.

ย  The teens shared a silent look before throwing themselves down into the reading chairs. Or at least Robin, Kid Flash, and Aqualad had. Roy was analyzing the room while Charlotte sat on the floor, leaning against Robin's chair. She would have been beside Aqualad since she liked the few conversations they shared, but he did not mix well with heat, and Charlotte was always running on high.

ย  The adults huddled together, not too far from where the teens sat, but enough to show they weren't really in with the big leagues. Charlotte had overheard the conversation between the members of the Justice League. Talking about four of the ice villains attacking at the same time, on the same day.

ย  Ice villains usually left Charlotte alone when she'd patrol for a very obvious reason. She would destroy them. Maybe not Icicle Jr. since she thought he was just another kid forced into the role that earned his father's love. She liked to believe they were in the same boat, just on opposite sides.

ย ย  The league gave them a half-assed excuse of them not being long before trying to leave. Fire had at least been decent enough to give Charlotte a sympathetic smile, but she was not expecting anything from the adults. She knew why they were there.

ย  Speedy, however, did not share the same feelings as her. "That's it?" His voice raised, catching the attention of the adults. "You promised us a real look inside, not a glorified backstage pass."

ย  Aquaman said, "It's a first step. You've been granted access few others get."

ย  Charlotte snorted a laugh while pointing to the windows above where fans were taking their pictures. "I'm getting blinded."

ย  Roy took a step forward, anger evident with each word he spoke. "Who cares which side of the glass we're on?"

ย  Green Arrow tried speaking in a gentle yet stern tone to get the kid to calm down, saying, "Roy, you just need to be patient."

ย  "What I need is respect!"

ย  "Yeah, you tell 'em" Charlotte agonized.

ย  Roy turned to his comrades, "they're treating us like kids. Worse, like sidekicks." He jabbed a finger in his chest. "We deserve better than this."

ย  The four looked between each other in silence, not agreeing with the eldest of the redheads. "You're kidding, right?" He asked in disbelief. "You're playing their game? Why? Today was supposed to be the day.Step one in becoming full-fledged members of the League."

ย  Wally and Robin glanced at one another. "Sure, but I thought step one was a tour of the HQ."

ย  "Except the Hall isn't the League's real HQ. I bet they never told you, it's just a false front for tourists and a pit stop for catching Zeta-Beam teleporter tubes to the real thing, an orbiting satellite called the Watchtower."

ย  Charlotte stayed quiet, feeling the room grow tense. She had already known this, Fire had told her all about the real headquarters. The duo had very few secrets between them โ€” well, at least Fire did not keep secrets from her.

ย  Getting a disapproving glare from Batman, Green Arrow frowned. "I know, I know, but I thought maybe we could make an exception." The glare deepened, "or not."

ย  "You are not helping your cause here, son." Aquaman stepped forward and placed a hand on Speedy's shoulder, which he knocked off. "Stand down."

ย  "Or what? You'll send me to my room? And I'm not your son." He pointed a finger in Green Arrow's face, "I'm not even his. I thought I was his partner." Speedy ripped the yellow hat off his head and threw it down on the ground, "but not anymore."

ย  The library fell silent with the Leaguers and sidekicks looking on in disbelief, eyes wide and mouth zipped shut. Speedy walked past the remaining four, his tone passive-aggressive as he said, "guess they're right about you four. You're not ready." They watched his retreating form, each in their own daze.

ย  Charlotte was just surprised he'd actually gone through with it. He left. He turned his back on them all.

An alarm blaring captured the attention of the masked heroes, Superman appearing on the screen above. That was one of the many heroes Charlotte was not acquainted with, and not for lack of trying on Hank's part. "Superman to Justice League, there's been an explosion at Project Cadmus. It's on fire."

Now that was Charlotte's specialty. Explosions, creating fires, or putting them out.

"I've had my suspicions about Cadmus," Batman said in his usual gruff tone. "This may present the perfect opportunity to โ€”"

He was cut off by another figure appearing on screen. "Zatara to Justice League, the sorcerer Wotan is using the amulet of Attan to blot out the sun. Requesting full League response."

"Superman?"

The Kryptonian said, "It's a small fire. Local authorities have it under control."

"Then Cadmus can wait." Batman pressed a button on the control panel, a way of contacting the entire League no doubt. "All Leaguers rendezvous at Zatara's coordinates. Batman out."

The teens approached the Leaguers, Charlotte in the back, all assuming they were coming along. "Stay put," Batman told them.

"What, why?"

Aquaman placed his hands on his hips, "this is a League mission."

"You're not trained," Flash added in a gentler tone that left no room for argument, though that wasn't going to stop Kid Flash. "Since when?" He asked with a dramatic wave of his arms.

"I meant you're not trained to work as part of this team," Flash gestured to the lineup of Leaguers.

"There will be other missions, when you're ready."

Fire crossed her arms over her chest while looking down at Charlotte who looked bored with just standing there. "When you have better control of yourselves," she pointed down to the girl's hands that had gained a faint orange hue, radiating heat.

Charlotte moved her hands behind her back while leveling Fire with narrowed eyes and the corners of her mouth twitching down. "I have control."

"Your blood is boiling."

"It's simmering."

Ignoring the side conversation between Fire and her protege, Batman repeated himself. "Stay put." The Leaguers walked out of the library, leaving behind four agitated teens. Not that Charlotte cared for her position as a sidekick but over being singled out for her 'lack of control' as Fire would put it. Even Hank was keen on telling her she wasn't completely in control with her abilities, despite her constant training.

"When we're ready?" Kid scrunched his brows together, looking like an angry cat, he turned to his three friends. "How are we ever supposed to be ready when they treat us like, like sidekicks!?"

Aqualad frowned. "My mentor, my king, I thought he trusted me."

Charlotte picked up a random book off a shelf, flipping through the pages as she said, "he does. They all do, but we're kids. Do you honestly think they'd let us join in on League business. They fight scarier things than what they have us tagging along for."

"Trust? They don't even trust us with the basics," Kid huffed.

"Did you not just hear what I said?" Charlotte snapped the book shut. "Ignore the sensible one, I guess."

Kid spared her a glance but continued, "They've got a secret HQ in space!"

"What else aren't they telling us?" Aqualad asked solemnly.

Charlotte bounced back over to the trio, resting an arm on Robin's shoulder. "A lot, probably. Everyone has secrets."

Robin nudged Charlotte off him. His eyes burning into the ground. "I have a better question. Why didn't we leave with Speedy?"

"'Cause even though we get fed up with our mentors sometimes, we love them too much to leave." Charlotte was frowning, one that held unspoken pain, as if she were referencing more than just Fire.

The others went quiet, thinking to themselves before letting out barely audible words of agreement. After a stretch of silence, Aqualad asked, "what is Project Cadmus?"

"I don't know, but I can find out." Robin smirked as he approached the computer, pressing down on the keys in a pattern Charlotte couldn't keep up with. "Access denied" an automotive voice spoke. "Wanna bet?" Robin chuckled, continuing to type on the keyboard till he was let into the software.

"Whoa, how are you doing that?"

"Nerd powers, you'll get them eventually." Charlotte patted Kid Flash's shoulder.

"Shut up," Robin gently shoved Charlotte with a small laugh. "Same system as the Batcave." He clicked on the file in the top right corner titled: CADMUS. "Alright, Project Cadmus, genetics lab here in DC. That's all there is, but if Batman's suspicious maybe we should investigate."

"Solve their case before they do." Aqualad grins, "it would be poetic justice."

"Hey, they're all about justice."

Aqualad sighed, "but they said to stay put."

Charlotte's lips curved into a smirk, similar to the one Robin was sporting. "For the blotting-out-the-sun mission, not this."

Kid nudged Robin with an excitement glimmering in his eyes. "Wait, are you going to Cadmus? Because if you're going, I'm going."

"I have nothing better to do." Charlotte, Kid Flash, and Robin offered the Atlantean smiles that looked a lot like begging.

Aqualad looked down at the three, "just like that we're a team on a mission?"

ย  "We didn't come for a playdate."

Sirens and the smell of smoke were the first things Charlotte noticed, next was the fire department trying to put out the flames and failing. There was too much oxygen in the air, fueling the fire. It kept getting bigger and bigger. She would have stared at it for hours, had there not been two doctors screaming for help through the open windows. The firefighters tried assuring them they would come out safely, however an explosion went off, resulting in the two falling out the window.

ย  Luckily, Kid Flash was able to grab them in time with his enhanced speed and place them on the roof, where they would be away from any damage. He, however, slipped and had to hang off the windowsill till he was able to pull himself up.

ย  Charlotte stood with Aqualad and Robin, watching Kid with a small laugh. "So smooth," Robin teased.

ย  "Does he always have to run ahead?" Aqualad asked Robin but when he looked to the right of him, the boy was gone with an echoing cackle. He then turned to Charlotte with a sigh, "we need a plan."

ย  "Yeah, I'm not a good planner but I can put the fire out. You worry about the bystanders." Charlotte saluted him while running backwards and toward the scene.

ย  She levitated herself to the height of the flames, extended her hands out till she felt the lick of the heat. Charlotte struggled with eating the fire, consuming the embers with her own. Making it easier to disperse. It took longer than she had hoped but the flames were gone, leaving behind singed marks.

ย  Charlotte climbed through the window and approached the three boys. One typing away on a computer, another going through a filing cabinet, and the other looking irritated. "Appreciate the help," Aqualad said sarcastically to the boys.

ย  "You handled it," Robin shrugged. "Besides, we're here to investigate. Poetic justice, remember?"

Charlotte watched Aqualad walk off, hearing the sound of the elevator's ding. She and Kid followed after him with a shared frown of confusion. "There was something in the โ€”" he began telling them but cut himself off with a furrow of his brows.

Kid scratched at the side of his nose in thought, "Elevators should be locked down."

Robin came running past them and to the elevator doors. Typing at the screen built into his high-tech yet thin fabric gloves, he said, "this is wrong." A holographic screen appeared, projected from the gloves.

"I have got to get myself a pair of those," Charlotte commented in awe.

"Thought so," Robin said to himself. "This is a high-speed express elevator. It doesn't belong in a two-story building."

"Unless it's not a two-story building," Charlotte thought aloud.

Aqualad touched the elevator door with questions running wild in his mind. Ones that would soon be answered. "What I saw doesn't belong here either." He slipped his fingers through the crack between the doors, prying them open with a grunt.

The four looked down at the long drop. "And that's why they need an express elevator," Robin said. He shot his grappling gun up at the ceiling and used it to slide down to a lower level, Kid and Aqualad following close behind. Charlotte all but jumped down into the dark abyss, allowing herself to hover in the air where the three stopped.

Robin was hacking into the security system before encouraging Aqualad to open the doors. It led them to a long hallway that was illuminated by a red light. "Welcome to Project Cadmus," Robin whistled lowly.

Kid sped ahead despite the sound of Aqualad telling him to wait. He didn't bother looking back but skid to a stop, landing on his back as giant things nearly crushed him as they stomped down the stretch of the hall.

He weaved through the herd to get back to his friends, a heavy sigh leaving his lips. The teens watched the herd of monster looking creatures go past, all stunned into momentary silence.

"No, nothing odd going on here." Aqualad said sarcastically.

Robin hacked into another set of doors in urgency. "Okay, I'm officially whelmed." They looked at a room filled wall to wall with little creations encased in test tubes, a light blue glow emitting off them.

Kid Flash walked along one side of the wall, careful not to touch anything. "This is how they hide this massive underground facility from the world." He alluded. "The real Cadmus isn't on the grid. It generates its own power with these...things. Must be what they're bred for."

Aqualad nodded along, "even the name is a clue. The Cadmus of myth created a new race by sowing dragon's teeth into the earth."

"That's one myth I don't know." Charlotte admitted. She was an avid reader, an even bigger fan of Greek and Roman mythology โ€” though she had not heard the myth behind Cadmus, not till now. She preferred romantic stories, like; Eurydice and Orpheus, Eros and Psyche.

"This Cadmus creates new life too," Robin concluded. He stepped up to a computer that was attached to the room's wall. "Let's find out why." He hooked his holographic computer to the one in front of him. "They call them Genomorphs. Whoa, look at the stats on these things." He pointed to the image on the screen. "Super strength, telepathy, razor claws. These are living weapons!"

"They're engineering an army, but for who?"

"Wait," Robin read ahead, fingers skimming the text. "There's something else, Project Kr." He groaned in frustration, "the file's triple-encrypted. I can't โ€”"

"Don't move!" A deep voice ordered, causing the four to look up and meet the eyes of Guardian. He came running in with more of those Genomorphs following behind, leaping onto things with their claws to keep them balanced. "Wait. Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Pyro?"

"At least he got your name right," Robin laughed.

"I know you." Aqualad spoke up, taking a step forward despite Charlotte trying to tug him back by his arm. "Guardian, a hero."

"I do my best."

"Then what are you doing here?" Kid Flash asked, shocked he'd align himself with the scientists creating these weapons.

"I'm the chief of security. You're trespassing, but we can call the Justice League, figure this out."

"You think the League's gonna approve of you breeding weapons?"

Charlotte knew for a fact they wouldn't have agreed with anything going on down there. Not just creating weapons far stronger than the average person, but artificial life. The League would have shut this down, had they known.

Guardian's eyes narrowed behind his helmet, a confused frown pulling at his lips. "Weapons? What are you โ€” what have I" he said, like he was waking from a trance. The man brought a hand to his head as the horns of the Genomorph on his shoulder began to glow red. "Take them down, hard." He ordered the remaining Genomorphs around him, back in whatever daze the artificial life forced him into. "No mercy."

As the Genomorphs started running at the group, Charlotte took quick steps back. Robin threw down smoke bombs to act as a smokescreen as he made his escape above using his grappling gun. The redheaded girl suspended herself in the air, avoiding the oncoming Genomorphs to the best of her ability.

One leapt up and attached itself to her ankle, hanging with its claws digging through the suit and into her skin. She shook her leg to try and get the thing off of her but to no avail. "I don't know if I should be sorry or not," Charlotte sighed while reeling her fist back as her skin turned to a flickering flame and slammed into its face. Once, twice, three times till it finally released her as it fell unconscious.

She, Aqualad, and Kid Flash ran out of the room and to where they assumed Robin had disappeared to. They found him with his holographic computer once again, hacking his way through the Cadmus security.

"Way to be a team player, Rob." Kid yelled with a hint of sarcasm.

"Weren't you right behind me?" He asked coyly while Charlotte flicked him in the back of the head with an irritated scowl. Robin got the doors to the elevator opened as quickly as he could, the four piled in before the Genomorphs could get them again.

Charlotte watched the numbers of floors go down. She leaned against the wall with her eyes tracking the numbers.

"We're headed down?"

"Dude, out is up." Kid pointed in the direction of their escape.

Knowing what Robin was staying behind for, Charlotte spoke up. "He wants to investigate Project Kr, he's a mini detective."

Robin leveled her with a glare at the use of mini but gave a barely visible nod of confirmation. "It's on sub-level 52."

Aqualad scratched the back of his neck, looking unsure of where this was going. "This is out of control. Perhaps we should contact the League." He suggested, getting no response in return. Everyone had gone quiet till the elevator doors opened, revealing another hall built of red, whatever it was.

The whole thing reminded Charlotte of chewed cinnamon gum. Robin was the first to run out followed by Kid. The pyrokinetic heroine looked up at Aqualad, not appearing too pleased with being down there. "We're so gonna die down here." She ran after the junior detective and speedster.

"Which way?" The Atlantean asked after joining them.

Robin chuckled humorlessly. "Yeah, bizarre looking hallway one, or bizarre looking hallway two?"

"Halt!" A Genomorph who looked more like a man than anything, ordered the teens. His horns glowed as he levitated a barrel filled with toxic waste and threw it in their direction.

Charlotte rubbed her hands together with a giddy, "let me nuke it."

"No way," Robin yelled, his hand wrapping around her wrist to drag her with him as he ran. Her long legs had them switching positions so she was the one leading him. More barrels were thrown at them but the group dodged them left and right.

The doors to Project Kr were closing right before their eyes. Thinking fast Kid took one of the pipes from the floor and stuffed it between the doors, giving them time. "Hurry!" He told them as he sped in. The three remaining sidekicks followed.

To keep Guardian and the Genomorphs out, Aqualad kicked the pipe out from between the doors. Allowing them to be locked in.

"I disabled the door. We're safe," Robin told them.

"We're trapped," Aqualad corrected.

Charlotte and Kid were too surprised by the sight in front of them to say anything. In a pod was a boy who looked remarkably like Superman, but younger. Around their age. "Uh guys, you'll wanna see this." Kid pressed a button to turn on the lights. Putting the boy in a spotlight.

"Whoa," Robin's mouth hung open.

Kid walked closer to the pod, analyzing it as he said "big K, little R. The atomic symbol for Krypton. Clone?"

Aqualad directed Robin to hack the system while Charlotte stepped up beside the boy in yellow. She looked at the face of the unconscious figure, her hand touching the glass as she traced over the letters with the tip of her finger. "Weapon designated Superboy." Robin read aloud, "A clone force-grown in...sixteen weeks!?" his voice raised but continued, "from DNA acquired from Superman."

"I could have told you that much," Charlotte gestured in the clone's direction, "I mean look at him!"

"The DNA was stolen," Aqualad said.

"No way the big guy knows about this."

Robin shook his head, still reading. "Solar suit allows him to absorb yellow sun radiation 24/7 โ€”"

Charlotte sighed, "so he's constantly being supercharged. Fantastic." She turned to Aqualad, "I told you we're gonna die down here."

Robin told her to shut up for the third time, his patience thinning. Not like he was much better when it came to interrupting people. And he should have been used to it with how often he had worked with her and Kid Flash.

"And these creatures?" Aqualad asked, pointing to the three smaller Genomorphs above Superboy.

"Genomorph Gnomes. Telepathic, force-feeding him an education."

Charlotte thought that was interesting, it sounded a lot better than having the private teachers Hank would pay to give her an education. They always talked to her like she was some sort of alien, something not of their world. It irritated her and oftentimes made her think of horrible scenarios where she would barbeque them.

"And we can guess what else," Kid narrowed his eyes at the floor, already not liking this. "They're making a slave out of, well, Superman's son."

"Now we contact the League." Aqualad pressed the inverted trident on his belt.

"No signal," Robin sighed.

Kid looked down at the ground in thought, "we're in too deep, literally."

Charlotte stepped back from the pod, allowing her hand to drop. "This feels wrong, leaving him here. Nobody deserves to be kept in a cage like this."

Aqualad nodded, looking at Robin as he said, "set him free."

Robin pressed a few keys before the pod opened with a hiss of air. The clone's hand moves, being clenched into a tight fist as he wakes up. His eyes snapped open, looking directly at Charlotte who was still the closest to him. His face was set in stone as he propelled himself in her direction, throwing her against the wall before moving onto the others.

Charlotte, who had landed with a thud, jumped up and stalked over to Superboy who was now punching Aqualad. She hooked her arm under his and threw him over her shoulder with her own above average strength.

Superboy growled ferally and charged at her. She tried dodging him but his hands came up on either side of her head. Banging it harshly against the wall till she began seeing black spots that clouded her vision. It did not take long for her to fall unconscious with his repetitive slamming.

NOTE!

I've been on a writing grind lately! so here was the first chapter, the end was kinda lazy but I wanted to get this done and published.
