The Band Geek and The Choir Nerd // Chapter Three

// Ponyboy's Point Of View //
Fifth hour today was normal except it just felt really different, even though everything was the same as always. It just felt off for some reason, it felt like something was going to happen today. The teacher walked off into the hallway to talk to another teacher about something. About a minute later, she walks back in and writes something down on a piece of paper and puts it on the corner of her desk. What did she talk about anyway to need to write something down, it must be something important.
I finish down writing what she told us to and put my mechanical pencil down on the table, folding my hands. The class was still working on writing and doing other work for different classes, I didn't have anymore work to do. To add onto that, I had just recently finished my library book and I didn't have an extra one to read. . . The only option I had left was to ask if I could go to the library and get a new book. I raise my hand up slowly and wait for the teacher to notice so I could ask to leave.
"What is it that you need Mr. Curtis," she asks annoyed.
"May I go to the library and get a new book please? I just finished mine recently. . .," I ask quietly.
"Yes Mr. Curtis, remember to do this at a different time next time though please," she says sighing and walking away.
I pick up my bag that was next to the desk and slid it on over my shoulder before standing up. Quickly, I walk out of the room, ignoring the stares from the other students and push open the door. I walk down the hallway, turningΒ left before getting to the library. The library wasn't that far from the class I was in anyway. I pushed open the door and let it shut behind me, walking to the front desk.
"How can I help you today Mr. Curtis," the librarian says smiling.
"I'm just here to get a new book Ms. Prior," I replied reaching into my bag and pulling out the book.
Placing that book on the desk, she checks it back in and place it into the basket next to her.
"So how was this book you finished?"
"It was absolutely wonderful, I loved it," I said, trying to hide my excitement.
She chuckled quietly and smiles. I walk off to find another book to check out, by the mystery section. I've always loved mystery stories, they were so interesting to figure out. The character who usually caused the problem was the person who was the most unexpected one. The last mystery I read was great, it had great details about the clues.
Skimming around the mystery section, I find a couple of books that sound interesting and pull them out of their place. I bring them up to Ms. Prior and she takes them and checks them out for me. Smiling lightly at her, I put the books into my bag and swing it back over my shoulder.
"I hope you enjoy those books Mr. Curtis, I've heard they were good. Have fun solving another mystery," she says quietly.
"Yeah, I can't wait to start reading it," I say excitedly.
I walk out of the room quickly, trying to get back to class before it ended and the bell has already rung. As soon as I reached class and sat back down in my seat, the bell rang and I had to get up and head to band class. My drumsticks were in my bag so I didn't need to go grab them today. The band room was half way around the school and it took a bit to get there. Kids flooded the halls and it was hard to get passed anyone, they were all pushing, shoving, or just walking slow.
After a minute, the hall cleared except for a few kids and I was so close to the band room. I guess, I wasn't looking where I was going and I knocked into someone, knocking them down in the process. I look down at them, their bag spilled out papers and pencils. He landed on his butt with a thud and I kneeled down beside them. I started to pick up his papers and things, piling them up as he felt around the ground for something.
I look around and a couple of feet away, laid a pair of black glasses. Reaching over at them, I grab them carefully and place them in his hands and continue to pick up papers. He put them on and helped pick up the rest of his thing, sticking them in his backpack. I stand up and reach out my hand and he slowly reaches out and grabs my hand so I could lift him up. He dusted himself off and stood in front of me for a minute.
He had dark, shaggy hair that fell over his eyes slightly and tan skin. He wore a pair of black jeans with a light blue plaid checkered shirt. On his feet he wore black Converse with them tied up in nice little bows. To top it all off, he had the pair of black glasses, framing his big, dark brown, puppy like eyes. They were a stunning color and I was instantly mesmerized by them.
"I apologise for running into you and knocking you over, making you drop all of your things," I said quickly.
"I-its alright. That's normal," he mumbles.
"Are you new here, I've never seen you around here before," I ask.
"N-no actually. I've gone to this school since forever. I-I guess people forgot I was here, b-but that's okay I have a few. . . friends," he mumbles the last part.
"Oh, well then. . . I'm still very sorry about running into you. Is there anything I could do to make it up to you," I ask softly.
"I-its alright really. You don't h-have to do anything."
Before I could say anything else, the quiet boy turned on his heels and walked away from me quickly, off to his class. How could I have never noticed him before, he seems like a very nice kid. I didn't even get his name, how sad is that. People really forgot that he goes to this school, poor kid. . .
