Ponyboy woke up slowly in bed next to his brother and sighed. Today happened to be the first day of school for him and he was thrilled. He missed learning about things and the teachers. He sat up, picking up the pillow that was under his head and smirked. Quickly and quietly, he raised it up and smacked his sleeping brother in the head with it.
Soda sat up with his eyes wide, looking around until his eyes landed on his little brother holding a pillow. Soda smirked and shook his head at his little brother before taking the pillow away, tossing it to the floor and tickling Ponyboy. Ponyboy started shrieking and broke into a giggle fit, trying to get away from his brothers hands. Within the next minute, Darry, the two boy's older brother, opened the door and looked at them. They both stopped and Ponyboy caught his breath while Soda moves away.
The room was in awkward silence until Darry chuckled and left the room. The two boys smiled and both stood up going to the closet. Soda grabbed his work uniform, his DX shirt and jeans before moving so Ponyboy could get his clothes. Ponyboy grabbed a nice pair of jeans and a dark red shirt. Soda left to change in the bathroom while Ponyboy changed in the bedroom.
Ponyboy took his dirty clothes and tossed them into the laundry bin in the corner before leaving his room. Darry was in the kitchen cooking when Ponyboy got there and got a glass of water. He wasn't too hungry this morning so he decided to skip breakfast. Ponyboy gulped down his glass of water and put the cup in the sink.
He quickly gave Darry a hug and grabbed his bag before walking out of the door. It was nice out, a slight breeze and the sun was already up, shining brightly. He walked down the street quickly not wanting to be late, he never was, he was always early. School happened to be close to his house which made it easier if he happened to wake up late. Usually, he was one of the first people there, even before a teacher or two.
The school was in his songs so he sprinted the rest of the way, opening the door and stepping in. There was a handful of other students there, all standing in the corner chatting about things. A few teachers walked about, sipping at their coffee. Ponyboy smiled lightly and took a deep breath. Today was going to be a great day.

Johnny woke up with a start, breathing heavily. He sat up quickly and looked around the room, looking for anyone to be there. There wasn't a person in sight and he sighed in relief. He had another nightmare just like every single night of the week before, they always happened. He couldn't recall what had happened in his dream and I don't believe he would want to.
They were always awful, they were dreams of his past, memories of you would say. Today was the first day of school and he wanted it to go away. What was the point of going if he had no freind there to tell how summer went. He wasn't smart, he thought he was stupid, his grades were barely passing. The only thing he looked forward to was Choir, he loved it there.
In Choir the students never played him not attention but the teacher did. She says that he has potential and that he is a very good singer. She is the only teacher who ever actually cared about him. He was always happy in that class. He was always smiling because he enjoyed singing, he enjoyed the songs they did.
Johnny stood up from his bed and went over to his dresser. It was blurry but he could still see everything slightly. He picked out a pair of blue jeans and a black and white checkered shirt. After putting all of that on, he walked back over to his nightstand and picked up his glasses and put them on. He needed to wear them all of the time yet he never wore them with his parents around, they didn't know about his glasses.
If they ever found out about his glasses they'd break them and he wouldn't be able to see. He'd have to save up money again just to get a new pair. It was hard to save up money because it was usually money his parents dropped in the floor. The money he found was usually all spare change and the occasional dollar bill. It wasn't much but ever little bit counts.
He picked up his bag off of his desk chair and quietly opened his bedroom door. He didn't see anyone so he quietly slipped out of his room and into the living room. There, his drunken father was fast asleep in his armchair. Beer bottles were scattered around the living room and it smelled of alcohol and cheap perfume.
Quickly, he tried to leave the house before anyone woke up. Before he could even open the door a sound went off behind him. Scared, he turned around anyway to see his father standing with a beer bottle in his hand. He took of his glasses and stuck them into his bag so they did the get broken. His father looked at him before scowling.
"What are you looking at you little shit," his father screams, throwing a beer bottle at him.
Jonny didn'tβ dodge it in time and it hit his face, shattering. He felt a piece dig into his skin and whimpered quietly. Before anymore damage could occur, he picked up his bag and opened the door, sprinting out. His father screamed at him but Johnny continued to run his way to school. He lived close so he was there in a matter of minutes.
Today had just started but he already knew that it wasn't going to go well for the rest of it. . .
