20. the preparations
A few weeks later, the chaos of wedding planning was in full swing. Thalia and Shubman had decided on a vintage floral garden wedding, a vision of elegance and romance that reflected their shared love for nature and timeless beauty.
The venue was a sprawling estate surrounded by blooming flowers, tall oak trees, and fairy lights that twinkled as the sunset.
Their families and closest friends were gathered at the estate for the weekend to finalize the arrangements, turning the serene garden into a buzzing hub of activity.
Thalia stood near a table covered in mood boards and fabric swatches, wearing a flowy peach sundress paired with tan strappy heels.
Her hair was styled into loose waves, and a simple gold chain—the one Shubman had gifted her—hung delicately around her neck.
Shubman, dressed in a white linen shirt tucked into khaki chinos, approached her with a bottle of cold water.
"Here, jaan. Don't overwork yourself."
"Thanks, love," she said, taking a sip. "What do you think of these table runners? Ivory or blush?"
He glanced at the options and pointed to the blush. "Blush. It adds a nice pop of colour without being too much."
Ritika, Rohit Sharma's wife, leaned in from across the table, her eyes twinkling. "He's got good taste, Thalia. I approve."
"I'd hope so," Thalia said with a laugh, nudging Shubman playfully.
Nearby, Virat and Anushka were sorting through flower samples with the florist.
"Roses and peonies for sure," Anushka suggested, holding up a bouquet. "They'll look gorgeous against the ivory decor."
"And don't forget marigolds for that little touch of tradition," Virat added, giving Thalia a wink.
Thalia smiled. "Marigolds it is. Shub, what do you think?"
"Anything you want, jaan," he said, slipping his arm around her waist.
"Smooth answer, Gill," Rohit teased, walking by with Ritika. "But you'll have to start making real decisions when the wedding day hits."
Shubman grinned. "Decisions? That's easy. I've already made the best one—marrying her."
In a quieter corner of the garden, the couple and their families were poring over designs for the wedding outfits.
Thalia's ivory lehenga was a masterpiece, with intricate floral embroidery in shades of blush and gold. It was designed by Sabyasachi, her dream designer.
"I can't believe how stunning this is," she said, running her fingers over the delicate fabric. "It's exactly what I imagined."
Shubman's sherwani was equally exquisite—an ivory silk creation with subtle gold accents and a blush-coloured turban to complement her outfit.
"You're going to look like a royal couple," Natasa Stankovic said, while Agastya stood near her, admiring the outfits. "It's perfect."
Hardik leaned over and teased, "Shub, better not mess up on the big day. She'll outshine you for sure."
"I'd be lucky to be outshined by her," Shubman replied, shooting Thalia a fond look.
As the sun set, fairy lights illuminated the garden, and the group gathered around a bonfire to relax after a long day of planning.
Thalia was curled up against Shubman, wrapped in a shawl. Rishabh Pant was trying to roast marshmallows but kept dropping them into the fire, making everyone laugh.
"Okay, so we've got the theme, the decor, the flowers, and the outfits sorted," Ritika said, ticking items off on her fingers. "What's left?"
"Food," Thalia said. "We need to finalize the menu."
"And the music," Shubman added. "We need a killer playlist for the reception."
"Leave that to me," Ishan said confidently. "I'll get a mix of English and Bollywood bangers."
"Don't forget some Punjabi tracks," Rohit said. "It's not a wedding without those."
Shubman laughed. "Done. Now, can we stop talking about planning and just enjoy this moment?"
Thalia looked up at him and smiled. "Agreed. No more wedding talk for tonight."
