[Y/N]'s POV:
I walked into the council room and found my executive council except for student relations officers, wearing a smug smile on their face.
"Soma-san, you too?"
"I didn't do anything!" Soma-san tried to play the innocent child with a poker face. For the love of God, we haven't even been on an actual date! This is getting out of control!
"Sorry for interrupting your romance, Kaichou-san. The thing is we got the files of both class 2&3 together this time." Akihiko-san informed, pointing out to the pile of files on the desk.
"If we finish this by lunch, we could get the next set that is our class's files after lunch and we might even let you check Kuroo-kun's file yourself!" Asami-chan chirped as she popped her head out from behind the shelf.
"Aren't you supposed to be in the festival committee, running it?" I queried, changing the topic because that was enough teasing for one morning as Asami-chan walked next to the desk.
"I was, until they started to move too fast under the orders of Kaneda Ichika!" she grimaced, dividing the files into three as she spoke.
"What?" Soma-san exclaimed.
"Her friends are part of the committee too, remember? They are sort of pressuring Inaba-kun to make the cultural plans already and the festival is going to happen only next month, right before the inter-high tournaments," Asami-chan shrugged feeling bad for Inaba-kun.
"And you were watching them do it?" Akihiko-san insinuated, clearly irritated.
"He is listening to them; they are his classmates and that's the problem. Help me out, please!" Asami-chan pleaded and I understood that she really needed our help. I have to do something, soon!
"Planning ahead is a good thing, right?" Soma-san questioned, puzzled.
"Not when it comes to a festival this big," I mentioned, knowing the difficulties of conducting a school festival from my past experiences.
A school festival might look all beautiful and well-devised but it's always the student council and the festival committee that has to get everything done from the planning to the final presentation. We will have to work together and bring out the best of the whole school's population with limited resources. Inevitably, there will always be some misunderstanding, there will always be some ruckus and somehow on the big day, something will go wrong and all the blame will land on the student council. Although, all the recognition will go to the school's management. It has always been that way.
At the very least, I would call an early preparation a waste of time, resources, and energy and the best strategy would be to approve the last minute plans because last minute plans make the best memories and those memories are always epic.
"Exactly! Finally, someone who speaks my mind!" Asami-chan heaved a sigh.
"Okay! How about this? You guys keep doing it. When you are done, tell them you need the council to give a go ahead and we will delay it as much as possible?" Akihiko-san presented an idea which was not half bad but it won't be helpful for a long time.
"And make sure all the phones are switched off except yours. We don't need Kaneda messing things up from behind the scenes," I insisted to which Asami-chan and the others agreed with a nod.
"Anyways, come here for a sec, will you?" Asami-chan asked as we both walked towards the council room door as she was ready to depart to the festival committee.
"They think your brother is an asshole and they also think that he's hot! He is being targeted! Warn him!" Asami-chan spoke in a hushed tone, making sure none of the others hear it.
"I don't understand, they who?" I whisper yelled in confusion.
"I heard Horie-san talking this stuff about your brother 'Jerry' to Anzai-san!" So basically, Horie-san likes Jojo but she also thinks he is an asshole! She is not wrong though!
"He can manage these things by himself I'm sure of it but I will also tell him that you asked me to warn him," I reassured as she was worried about my asshole of a brother.
"Yeah, whatever but just so you know, I hate you!"
"For what?"
"For everything!"
"Awwww, I love you too!" I yelled as she stomped away down the hall and towards the festival committee room.
Soma-san, Akihiko-san, and I got back to work with our skimming and scanning of the student file which was quite interesting, at least to me because I hadn't really met any of those people in person but now, I know what they have done from head to toe. I felt like I was finally in charge of the students of Nekoma even though deep down I knew that a student file does not reveal the character of a person.
Any blackmark mentioned in their file could have been an idiotic mistake done out of spontaneity and curiosity. Nevertheless, we read through the files and we sorted the students into four major categories β List A, B, C & D. It was Akihiko-san's idea to sort the acquired information with necessary details into these four categories and I must say it was the most efficient idea with respect to the matter in hand.
Since I didn't know every student in person, every file I took, I read their name out loud and I read their remarks made by their mentor. Soma-san and Akihiko-san helped me with virtual information such as gossips and rumors about every one of them, as they knew all the people in school. Plus, Akihiko-san was in the student council the previous year too as one of the student relations officers.
List A consisted of students who were known as the delinquents, the students who didn't care if they were hurting others, who didn't care about their grades. It is basically the list of real bad guys and the bullies. This list of students needed monitoring and guidance more than anyone else in the school premises as the majority of the fights and misconduct involved them the most.
List B consisted of students who didn't have any major setbacks but had a black mark or two due to any bad network or acquaintances or they were just stupid enough to do the stuff they did when they did. We cannot let them off the hook just because they did a mistake. A mistake still remains a mistake but by committing a mistake is how someone learns to do better; a mistake is how someone learns to be better and I had some ideas on their betterment.
List C consisted of people like Kaneda Ichika, a known bully but had nothing in the files because of their strong connections with the school management. This list of students had to be dealt with in the most cautious way possible and they were yet to know what was coming for them. These set of people were completely identified with the help of Akihiko-san and Soma-san and I also wanted the input of Asami-chan on this matter. After all, she knows all the tea in the school.
I texted Asami-chan to come by the council room when she had some spare time and we three went back to our work. Reading β analyzing β classifying and scripting. All of our observations had to be submitted to the staff committee because, at the end of the day we had no power. We were controlled by the school and the staff committee; we were just the lapdogs.
Hence, we made two sets of scripts; An official script that can be submitted to the staff which will look very formal, which will offend no one and this script didn't have a list C at all. The secondary script was an unofficial script just for the members of the council to keep an eye mostly on the members from the list C.
It got sort of boring after a few minutes because we just had to put most of the files under list D. List D is essentially the students who had neutral or good remarks, the non-troublemakers. An eternity later, I was interrupted by a knock on the door. I was more enthusiastic about the intruder than the now boring student file classification.
Luckily, when I opened the door, I saw a snack and it was Kuroo Tetsurou with strawberry milk and some chips. I didn't know if I was excited to see the snack in his hands or if I was just excited to see him. Maybe he was here with my favorite snacks to admit about his jealousy and I could finally tell him about Jojo and of course, enjoy the snacks with him. But he is a snack though!
Unfortunately, all I could muster was, "You are not in your full uniform, and don't you have class?"
"And here I thought you would be happy to see me!" he teased, acting all dramatic, with various facial expressions which ended with his signature smirk.
"I am, it's just I'm in Kaichou mode now so, I said that without thinking. But I am really happy to see you as a snack. I mean, see you and you with the snack!" I blabbered which was very very embarrassing. I wanted to hide my existence and erase the past few minutes off his memory. Unfortunately, I was no witch.
"The staff had some work so we were assigned to the library and my coat is in the class, Kaichou-sama. It's just so hot today so I left it inside my desk. Now can you explain to me about your modes? What is your mode called when you are in your shower, in your clothing called skin?" he teased again as he glided the cold strawberry milk carton from my wrist till my blouse sleeve in a very slow and agonizing pace as he uttered every word.
The coldness from the carton spread across my skin which was soothing and satisfying as the climate, Kuroo's presence, and his antics made it a hundred times hotter than usual. His fingers didn't even touch my skin but the gap between the two of us disappeared inch by inch as he was now standing only a breath away. His tall and well-built frame made me feel like a runt. Corridor alert! Corridor alert!
I pushed him away in the fear of getting caught as I whispered, "You are so not seeing me naked anytime soon!" to which he responded a sigh indicating his disappointment.
"You know I am such a decent guy; I have never laid my hands on you in a dirty way but you've felt me up as you please. That is so not fair!" he complained a little loudly and I was pretty sure my nosy council had heard it all.
"Zip zip zip! Shhh!!!" I pounced next to him and shut his mouth with my palm, making him chuckle.
He removed my hand off his mouth and muttered, "Why? You don't want people to know how dirty-minded you are?"
"Kurooβ"
He continued as if my warning meant nothing, his voice turning all dark and sexy still holding my hand as he muttered, "I know you liked touching me but I didn't know that you liked it this much!"
"No, stop!"
"I know how you've been looking at me since morning, the way your eyes scan me and the way your mouth goes dry so you keep gulping down your own saliva and the wayβ"
"Please, no, stop!"
Immediately he had a victorious grin and insisted, "Tell me about Reyne and I will stop this!"
"You want to know about Jojo? I will tell you. So, please keep that filthy mouth shut! There is a place and time for everything!"
His sly, sexy, smirk vanished into thin air as his dorky, goofy side popped up as he softly gave me a head bump exclaiming, "Haha provoked! Here, drink up. Tell me in lunch, the librarian won't let me in if I am late and I'm really late!" and he handed me over the chips and the milk in a hurry and started to jog in the other direction.
"I won't tell you!" I yelled, embarrassment oozing out through my pores, trying to show my resolve which was an epic failure.
"It's a lunch date and you will!" he yelled in response from afar and I could clearly see him wink.
I went back into the council room with the snacks as Akihiko-san and Soma-san looked like they were drowned and focused on what they were doing. I casually dropped down onto my seat and opened the chips packet and Akihiko-san declared, "Leave the chips for us and we will pretend like nothing happened."
I silently guided the chips packet towards Akihiko-san and we all continued to sort the files like nothing happened. Every now and then I sipped onto the cold strawberry milk savoring the luscious creamy texture, a quasi-tangy-sweet flavor which was ultimately heavenly on a hot day like this.
"He is a decent guy, and apparently you aren't?" Akihiko-san indulged himself as I was now on entering-the-details-alone duty because I was not completely focused on the task at hand.
"Chips; I gave you my chips that my boyfβ"
"Boyfriend. She said, boyfriend!" Soma-san chirped with excitement before I could finish my sentence. When did Soma-san join the gang of taunts?
With a little bit of stuttering, I placated saying, "He is a boy and he is a friend and he isβ"
"Whom you are supposedly dating!" Akihiko-san chortled, trying to correct me in his own way.
"You know what? I am going to make a rule, either we talk about everyone's love life or we don't talk about anyone's love life. I can't be the only one that has to go through with all your teases and taunts!" I declared with a pout. I mean seriously, this was getting a little bit boring if the talk was only about me. I wanted to do the teasing too!
"I don't have a love life. I don't even have a life. I come to school do my work, get home, do my homework, sleep, and repeat!" Soma-san sighed as if he was bored with life as a whole. Too bad, he didn't know his life was going to change because he is now in a circle of people who were capable of turning his life around.
"Dude, I feel terribly sorry for you. You actually don't have a life!" Akihiko-san patted his shoulders and arranged the files back together so that he could submit them back to their respective homeroom staff.
"What's your life like?" Soma-san questioned out of curiosity, removing his glasses as he placed it on the table.
"I am not saying!" Akihiko-san laughed and left the room with the files.
"That's cheating!" Soma-san and I yelled together in utter disappointment.
Akihiko-san came back with the next set of files in a few minutes and informed that it was only class 4's files and that he couldn't find Hayashi sensei in his office as he was preoccupied with his class. We kept interrogating Akihiko-san about his life, especially his love life to which he divulged us with some boring details only about his dreary, tedious and unexciting life. He didn't spill anything about the name of his crush or anything concerning his love life.
"Oh, here I have Akihiko-san's student file. He belongs to class 4, right? Let's get some more official, more depressing, more boring information about Akihiko-san, shall we?" I sarcastically sang, waving his file in front of his face to see if I could spark any interesting reaction.
"Oh yeah, let's see!" Soma-san replied, a little bit more enthusiastic than usual.
"I am not supposed to review my own file I'm aware of that but there are some things in that file and not many people know about!" Akihiko-san bluntly spoke, going through the pile, placed in front of him.
"Finally, some secrets are going to be revealed huh?" I chirped, wiggling my eyebrows dramatically as I was excited to know more about my friends.
"It's not exactly a secret, I'm just a private person is all," Akihiko-san muttered still focusing on reviewing the files.
"So, are you going to spill or we have to officially survey your file?" I inquired one last time, hoping he would let us in on his story.
"File!" Akihiko-san declared.
"You are no fun," Soma-san sighed, his enthusiasm dying right after.
"This is fun for me because files do have some very personal details but it's not my biography. The file doesn't have 'everything'. So, have fun!" Akihiko-san flashed a grin, taunting us with a fact.
Soma-san reviewed Akihiko-san's file as I was consumed by deep thoughts. I wanted to know more about Kuroo through his file but I didn't think about the fact that files don't contain every piece of information. So smart of me to think files would contain everything!
"Wait, you are a mathlete, you have 5 siblings and you had a fracture?" Soma-san questioned in awe. 5 siblings? Damn, that must look like a frat party every day!
"Yeah. Find anything else that's interesting to your eyes?" Akihiko-san asked, knowing the answer to his question.
"No!" Soma-san gushed in a disappointed tone.
"I mean come on; you don't even have a crush?" I questioned, wanting to know at least a teeny tiny detail about his love life.
"I do have a crush!" Akihiko-san admitted as Soma-san became the most silent person in the room.
"Who? Who? Who?" I hooted, urging him to speak.
"You should have gone to Fukurodani!" Soma-san muttered under his breath which I heard clean and clear which I disregarded.
"Crush, name, details, spill!" I demanded in an authoritative tone as I was getting tired. I felt like I was nagging him but it was because I cannot be the only one the council chitchats about.
"In time." Akihiko-san asserted with a reassuring smile.
"Then you don't get to tease me!" I declared and went back to taking notes of the necessary details from the given set of files.
"I will try but I'm not doing in on purpose," Akihiko-san chuckled which I ignored as best as I can.
We continued to chit chat and review the rest of the files as the lunch bell and our stomachs started to growl at the same time. Akihiko-san and Soma-san left the council room saying they wanted to stay out of our lunch date and give us some privacy which I appreciated very much. I waited and waited but Kuroo was nowhere to be seen. I even texted him that I was waiting for him in the council room but he replied with 'I will be there in a minute' but that minute took more than half the lunch hour.
He finally came in with his bento box and a fat sorry as he had something to discuss with Nekomata sensei regarding his volleyball endeavors. He was silent and we ate our lunch as the low munching noises, the fan creaking over the roof and a silent breeze filled the room.
He brought his chopsticks and stared at me as if he was asking permission to taste my food and I, on the other hand, glared right at him and his chopsticks and he backed off on his own. I was so not in the mood to share my food with someone who practically was late to the date he arranged in the first place. I might as well assume that he would have stood me up if I hadn't texted him when I did.
I on the other hand swiped a couple of slices of carrots from his bento box and crunched on them and Kuroo muttered "Burglar," with a soft chuckle.
"Unpunctual ass," I scoffed, rolling my eyes.
"As much as I deserve it, I'm glad that you like vegetables. Kenma on the other hand, not so much," he concluded as his eyes ravished me and he took his next munch which I must say was a sexy look on him.
"Does he have a girlfriend?" I conceded, not making eye contact with him anymore.
"Maybe?" he guessed, his crafty tongue glossing his lips, removing any remaining food as his eyes stopped blinking which I was pretty sure that he was doing it on purpose, trying to seduce me.
"I thought you two were close?" I asked, focusing just on my food.
"We are!"
"Hmm"
"Reyne? You two seem too close for my liking," he said closing his bento box which was now completely empty.
"Found you!" Asami-chan opened the door with a bang as she caught her breath from running.
"Time for me to leave?" Kuroo pursed his lips, feeling down. We never had enough alone time together to actually talk and something came up all the time, interrupting our moments.
"Yeah!" I gave a disheartened smile.
"Bubye!!!!" Asami-chan waved as he left the council room, discontented.
Asami-chan and I discussed the lists made by the three of us and she gave more input on a few of the people that we had already sorted into the lists. Akihiko-san and Soma-san soon joined us and we continued to review the files.
The next set of files came in within a few minutes and we began to divide it among us and I snatched Kuroo's file before anyone else could touch it from the bunch. I started to read through his file and Asami-chan squealed, "Where is your file?"
"How should I know? Soma-san did you drop the files or something?" I queried knowing why my file wasn't kept in the bunch.
"No! I don't even have shaky hands," Soma-san replied to the question with an answer which had no relevance to it.
"Your file is supposed to be in this batch. Mine is here, Soma-san's is here. Where is yours?" Asami-chan recalled in a confused tone.
"Probably in some processing? I'm a new admission soβ"
"No, we had your brother's file, he's a new admission too!" Akihiko-san butted in. As if I'm not aware!
"You are questioning the wrong person. I don't know where my file is, but we can ask when we go and submit this batch. So, get to work people." I urged my fellow council members as I didn't want them to think I was hiding something.
"She is hiding something," Akihiko-san whispered loud enough for everyone in the room to hear.
"Definitely!" Asami-chan agreed to his statement. She looked me as if I was her cat who ate the next-door neighbor's pet pigeon.
"I can hear you and I'm not hiding anything. On the other hand, Akihiko-san is the 'private person' here," I tittered, playfully.
"If you want tea on Akihiko-san, I will tell you but we want to see your file. Period." Asami-chan declared.
"Ask Hayashi sensei. I don't have my file in my pockets!" I insisted, showing my actual empty pocket.
"Hey, you don't know any tea about me!" Akihiko-san exclaimed.
"Try me!" Asami-chan maintained her attitude of a know-it-all.
Akihiko-san and Asami-chan continued their friendly banter which was really and undoubtedly loud but I was more focused on obtaining information about Kuroo Tetsurou as I resumed to read through his file.
Kuroo had a terrific sports record, a whopping A grade throughout his high school, a bunch of medals in the regional and state-level National Science Olympiad since middle school for being a nerd that he is and was almost considered for the scholarship as well. His mentor's assessment mentioned nothing but great things about him but what caught my eye was a signature. A signature under the guardian checkbox who also happened to have the last name Kuroo whose age was in the 80's.
Grandfather? What happened to his parents? Why is he not living with his parents? There is no mention of deceased parents or anything in his file. His address seems to be the same, which means he didn't move out and his grandfather's signature throughout his high school records.
I blurted out not paying any attention to the small talk that was going on between the three of them saying, "I want to know the gossips or rumors or anything that involves Kuroo!"
"The-, There isn't much really!" Asami-chan stammered a little bit which caught my attention.
"Liar!"
"Do you guys know everything about each other?" she questioned trying to turn the conversation in a different direction but I wasn't ready to move on from the topic yet.
"No but I know what gossips are, they don't have to be true. I just need to know what kind of gossips or rumors he was involved in. I want to know where he stands."
"Fine! if you are clear on that, here goes nothing. Apparently, the girls think he's a player. Apparently, he dumped Anzai-san because she's a bad kisser. Apparently, he has a secret relationship with Kenma. Oh, and he did get caught with his ex-girlfriend during the previous festival. The last one that's a fact and that led to a huge amount of gossips and shit."
"That's all?"
"Yes, everything is pretty much the same. I have no idea why people would want to bullshit about others like this."
"Okay," I mumbled, taking in the information.
Asami-chan left the council room to join the festival committee after a few minutes and the rest of us continued to survey the files. It was almost time for the last bell and we had finished with the files of class 3-6. Our school has 6 classes per grade as we were a public school, aided by Fukurodani Academy which was private and each grade in our school generally had 40 students per class.
Earlier I had texted Kuroo to wait up in our class after the bell. Akihiko-san and Soma-san left the council room after the bell to submit the files and I on the other hand waited for them to leave so that I could go meet Kuroo without anyone knowing. I wanted to avoid the teases and taunts which has been following me like a shadow every time I happened to have a conversation with or about Kuroo.
I rushed to the classroom and opened the door only for my eyes to behold a sight. Kuroo was in a black t-shirt and his tracks, his muscular, buffy back facing me as he was gazing out the window, standing next to my seat. Hearing my footsteps, he turned around with a dazzling smile as he muttered, "You are here!"
I pranced to the other end of the class, making my way through the benches that stood as an obstacle between the two of us.
"You okay?" he asked with concern, looking at my dull and tired face.
My mind was blank, weariness, and all the information I had absorbed today from those files battling with each other which grew me more spent if that was even possible. My hands automatically seized his neck as I stood on my toes, his arms embosoming me in a tight yet comfortable hug.
"Rough day, huh?"
I breathed in his scent, a warm, comforting, soothing whiff that put my frenzied thoughts to a calm and collected wave. I nuzzled into his embrace as I muttered, "Just exhausting."
We stayed like that for god knows how long and that hug was another best thing aside from his good morning message happened to me in a long while and this was the moment that made me realize, he wasn't just a physical attraction. He was my place of comfort.
