꧁★ act one — chapter seven ★꧂
Cameron and Madelyn stood outside together, everyone was one edge, Madelyn had deciding that she for once was gonna ignore Bellamy's orders and leave the drop ship as Raven's screams were heard, Madelyn knew that Clarke was gonna be working on her, Madelyn was fine, she still had the cloth tied around her leg, she may still be bleeding a little but Raven was more important to her right now.
A minute later everyone was getting ready to leave and they did, Madelyn limped to the gates with her arm around Cameron but was stopped by Clarke and Bellamy.
"Hey. You shouldn't be walking right now, I haven't checked your wound." Clarke spoke as she looked at Madelyn with concern. "You've had injury after injury for the past couple of days. Like you can't walk that far."
"What do you want me to do? Fly?" Madelyn sassed back with a raised brow Bellamy, Cameron and Clarke all laughed at her. "No. I don't know, but Bellamy she can't walk that far, I don't know how bad her leg is." Clarke said as she turned to Bellamy, Bellamy took his gun off his back and handed it to Clarke who gave him a confused look. "Give it to Cameron. You can shoot right?" Bellamy asked. "yes." Cameron spoke.
Bellamy took that as a yes and nodded his head, Clarke gave Cameron the gun and he let go of Madelyn who now stood on her own with no support until Bellamy walked forward and swopped her into his arms, he hard one arm under her knees making sure he was as far away from her wound as possible and the other arm on her back and they walked, Madelyn threw her head back.
"Oh my god. I can walk just fine, you don't need to carry me like I'm a freaking baby." Madelyn complained, the three laughed at her complaints and Bellamy shook his head. "I don't care. Clarke said no walking." Bellamy spoke and Madelyn sighed in defeat, she looked at the sky as they walked, she'd put her head to the side so it was laying comfortable against Bellamy's chest and her arms were folded around her stomach, she closed her eyes for a second before she felt Bellamy come to a stop, she turned her head to the side looking in front of them confused as to why everyone stopped walking.
"Why did we stop?" Madelyn asked confused. "I don't know." Bellamy said as he looked around for possible threats. A second later Madelyn watched as something come flying toward them and it hit one of the kids in the head and everyone gasped and yelled.
"Grounders!" Jasper yelled from up front and everyone took of running back to camp, when they got back Bellamy put Madelyn down and took the gun from Cameron to help keep watch at the walls.
"Lincoln said the scouts would be the first to arrive." Clarke said as she turned back to Finn. "If it's just scouts, we can fight our way out." Octavia spoke as she walked over. "That's what Lincoln would do."
"I don't really know if that's gonna be possible." Madelyn spoke. "She's right I mean, we've got an injured Raven who definitely can't walk and Madelyn can't exactly walk either that's what you said, Clarke and they wouldn't be able to help or defend themselves." Cameron spoke up.
"We're done doing what that grounder would do. We tried it and now Drew is dead. You want to be next? You want Madelyn to be next?" Bellamy spoke as he walked down to Octavia knowing that Octavia had taken a liking to Madelyn he knew that Madelyn might be the only person to make her look at things differently.
"That grounder saved our lives. I agree with Octavia. For all we know there's one scout out there." Finn spoke up, to say the least Madelyn was scared, she was tired and her body still ached, she needed a fat dose of pain relief and soon. She wouldn't be able to defend or protect her self or others if it came down to it, the lack of training from the injuries played a good part in that.
"One scout with insanely good aim." Jasper spoke as he turned toward them. "Clarke, we can still do this." Octavia said and looked up at Clarke. "Looking to you, princess. What's it gonna be? Run and get picked off out in the open, or stand and fight back." Bellamy spoke as they all now looked to Clarke who turned and looked out into the world beyond the wall. She turned back around on hoped down from where she was standing.
"Clarke, If we're still here when Tristan gets here--"
"Lincoln said 'scouts.' more than one. He said 'get home before the scouts arrive.' Finn, they're already here." Clarke spoke as she interrupted Finn and then she turned to Bellamy. "Looks like you've got your fight."
"OK, then. This is what we've been preparing for. Kill them before they kill us. Gunners, to your posts. Use the tunnels to get in and out. From now on the gate stays closed." Bellamy yelled and everyone got to work, Madelyn made her way into the drop ship with Cameron, Clarke had told her to stay and let her body rest which annoyed her, she felt fine.
Cameron made his way outside to help the others, but not without complaints from Madelyn.
"We've got 25 rifles with 20 rounds each, give or take. Roughly 500 rounds of ammo. While you two were gone, we made some improvements. Thanks to Raven, the gully is mined." Bellamy explained as they were around the table trying to figure out a plan.
"Partially mined. Thanks to Murphy." Raven said with a heavy breath as she was sat down by Clarke's orders. "Still, it's the main route in. If the grounders use it, we'll know. She also built grenades." Bellamy explained.
"That's not many." Clarke said as she shook her head. "Again, thank you, Murphy." Madelyn said as she rubbed her thigh, she felt fine, she'd healed okay since the cliff, her thigh was the main problem that anyone knew about, however her right arm wasn't doing the best, she couldn't move it much, but she didn't want to say anything, she didn't want them to think she was completely useless.
"We'll make them count. If the grounders make it through the front gate, guns and grenades should force them back." Bellamy spoke, Madelyn nodded along. "And then?" Clarke asked.
"Then we close the door and I don't pray." Madelyn said, Raven agreeing with her. "And pray what? That the ship keep them out? Because it won't." Clarke spoke and turned to Bellamy.
"Then let's not let them get through the gate." Bellamy said as he picked up the walkie. "All foxholes, listen up. Keep your eyes and ears open. Inflict casualties, as many as possible. You can hold them off long enough to make them turn back. That's the plan." Bellamy spoke into the walkie connected to the people outside.
"That's always your plan, just like the bomb at the bridge." Finn spoke as Bellamy was about to speak Madelyn interrupted him. "Do you hear yourself? As much as I just want peace with these grounders I know it's not possible right now because they're angry, what else do you want us to do? Sit here and look pretty and wait for them to slaughter us?" Madelyn spoke, Finn looked at her and then nodded, understanding, Madelyn wanted peace sure, but right now that wasn't an option.
"Damn right, It's my plan, you got a better idea?" Bellamy asked Finn who just shook his head. "It can't be that simple." Clarke spoke in almost a whisper but they all heard her. "You said there's fuel in those rockets, right? Enough to build 100 bombs." Clarke asked, Madelyn was confused they couldn't build 100 bombs.
"I also said we've got no gunpowder left." Raven said and that's when Madelyn caught on by the look on Clarke's face. "You don't want to build a bomb do you? You want to blast off." Madelyn spoke and Clarke gave a single nod, Raven smiled.
"Draw them in close. Fire the rockets." Raven spoke.
"A ring of fire." Madelyn finished her sentence.
"Barbecued grounders. I like it." Bellamy said with a nod. "Will it work?" Finn asked as they turned to Raven. "The wiring's a mess down there, but yeah. You give me enough time, I'll cook them real good."
"Finn, do you see it over there?" Clarke asked fro beneath the ship, Raven was sitting and doing whatever she was doing while Madelyn laid on her stomach with her head over the opening of where Clarke and Finn had gone so she could hear what they said. "No." Finn answered.
"Raven, we can't find the ignition system." Clarke spoke, Raven didn't answer so Madelyn sat up quickly and whipped her head around to look at Raven. "Raven?" Clarke asked again and Madelyn raised her brow at Raven as if questioning her silence.
"I can't feel my legs." Raven said and Madelyn's face dropped. Shit. "Ok, hold on. We're coming." Clarke said and a second later her and Finn made their way up to Raven and Madelyn. "Ok, let me see."
Clarke made Raven lean forward making her grunt in pain and discomfort. Clarke looked at Finn after looking at Raven's back, obviously not a good sign. "That bad, huh?" Raven joked. Clarke helped her back into her previous position.
"Raven. The bullet's in your spine." Clarke said and Raven's face dropped. "you're bleeding internally."
"Fuck." Madelyn said and the three looked at her. "Sorry." Madelyn quickly said as she looked down. "No you're right. Fuck. Well.. We better do this fast then, huh? Get back down there." Raven said, Clarke was about to get up but Finn stopped her.
"What if we can slow the bleeding? Would that help?" Finn asked. "Well, of course it would help. Can you tell me how to do that?" Clarke asked which almost made Madelyn chuckle finding it funny for whatever dumb reason.
"That stuff the grounder had-- coagulant. You said that Lincoln had some, too." Finn explained. "Yeah, It's in the box with the antidote, but I--"
"I'm betting that there's more of it in his cave. If I can get there--"
"--Wait a second. no." Raven said, Madelyn looked between them as they all cut each other off.
"I can make it." Finn said not giving in. "Clarke, tell him he's being an idiot." Raven said, Finn tried to talk to her. "What? I'm not gonna let you die to save me."
"Fine. If you won't let me save you. How about we save everybody else?" Finn spoke and Madelyn nodded her head. "Raven. We need you. We can't survive without you, you're the smart one, you're the one who can keep us all alive right now." Madelyn spoke as Raven looked at her.
"No offence Finn.. but if you have to die so we can save Raven--"
"Madelyn." Clarke interrupted her as she hit her arm. "ow." Madelyn said with a fake pout. Finn just let out a laugh. "It's okay, I get what you mean Madelyn."
"If you die, we all die, Raven. I'll be right back." Finn said as he got up, Clarke stood up and walked after him as they talked before Finn walked out.
"I don't see anyone." Someone spoke through the walkie, they'd started shooting, Clarke, Raven and Madelyn weren't sure exactly what was going on, but they couldn't think about that right now. "They're too fast."
"Do you see it or don't you?" Raven asked from upstairs, this time Madelyn was under the ship, helping Clarke. "No. It's a mess down here." Madelyn yelled back. "It'll be orange. Look harder!" Raven yelled. Orange, orange, orange Madelyn said in her head over and over while looking for it. "You have to find the wire that connects the manual override to the electromagnet."
"It's not rocket science." Raven spoke and Madelyn pulled a face and hurried over to the opening and looked up at Raven with a raised brow. "It is rocket science, Raven. We're trying to fire rockets." Madelyn spoke and Raven let out a small chuckle, Madelyn smiled and went back to her search.
"Guess we finally found something you're not good at, Clarke." Raven said, Clarke didn't respond but there wasn't complete silence as Madelyn chuckled. "I used to be picked first for everything. Earth skills, zero-g mech course. First... every time." Raven spoke and it all became silent this time, Madelyn slowly made her way over to the opening again.
"So, how the hell did I end up here?" Raven asked and then she looked down as she heard something and saw Madelyn.
"personally I think that no one can do everything, so I'll have someone that would be the first person I thought of if I got hurt and needed help and someone else if something different happened. You're smart Raven, don't worry, you're defiantly my first choice in some way." Madelyn said, she noticed the small tear that ran down Raven's cheek. "thanks kid."
"Hey, Raven?" Clarke spoke as Madelyn made her way back. "I'd pick you first."
"Of course you would. I'm awesome." Raven joked and Madelyn cracked a smile knowing she got the emotional tear reaction and Clarke got the joke.
"Hey, I found it. Orange wire." Clarke said as she pulled things away so she could get to it easier. "About time! Now follow that wire to the override panel." Raven explained as Madelyn finally made it over to Clarke who was sat still, Madelyn looked at the wire. "oh.. shit."
"Raven? It's fried. Totally useless. Tell me this isn't as bad as I think." Clarke said and Madelyn slumped down against the wall with a sigh. "You know how to splice a wire?" Raven asked Clarke looked at Madelyn with a questionable look and Madelyn shook her head. "No."
"Then it's worse." Raven spoke then they heard her yell out in pain most likely from trying to get up. "Hey, stop. Just talk me through it." Clarke said as more yelling came through the walkie. "Raven, our mines actually worked!" And Madelyn sighed in relief that at least something went right.
"Jasper can splice." Raven said, Clarke and Madelyn looked at each other with hopeful looks on their faces.
"Jasper, we need you in the drop ship right now." Clarke spoke through the walkie. "Negative. We can't give up the West woods." Bellamy shot back. "The West woods are mined, Bellamy. The grounders just figured that out. Jasper, get in here." Clarke spoke getting just a little frustrated, things weren't exactly going the way they'd hoped so I'd be weird if they weren't all a little frustrated.
"All gunners, listen up." Jasper spoke through the walkie. "The grounders are not attacking. They're making us waste bullets. Don't shoot when they're running laterally."
"Jasper's right. Don't fire until you're sure it'a attack. Repeat, do not fire until you are sure." Bellamy spoke and Jasper said he made his way to the drop ship to help.
It started. They were attacking. Guns shots were heard as they sat in the drop ship, Madelyn was back upstairs with Raven, she wasn't much help so she was laying on her back straring at the ceiling.
"Hey, Raven, tell us again how this is gonna work." Clarke spoke as her and Jasper was down there trying to fix it. "Told you 5 times. Current flows to the electromagnet. That opens the poppet valve. Rockets fire." Raven explained again, you could hear it in the way she spoke that she was getting worse.
"Ok. Got the good wire ready to graft on. What's next?" Jasper asked, Madelyn furrowed her brows when she didn't answer and turned her head to see Raven laying down, passed out.
"She's passed out!" Madelyn yelled as she got up and crawled toward Raven, Clarke got up there a second later.
"Is she..." Jasper trailed off. "Not yet. But soon."
"They've broken though! There's hundreds of them. They're heading for the gate! Game over, man!" Someone yelled through the walkie. "Finish it." Clarke said and Jasper went back down as he kept repeating what to do, Madelyn sat with her back to where Jasper had gone down and looked at Raven.
Everybody was inside the drop ship, but Madelyn couldn't see a couple of people, she didn't see Octavia, Bellamy, Finn or Cameron which worried her, she was still sat like she was before with her back to where Jasper was, however he'd figured it out and was now upstairs.
Clarke walked into the drop ship and just as Madelyn thought that Cameron, Octavia, Bellamy and Finn were gonna show up along with her, they didn't. Madelyn watched as Clarke had tears running down her face and she pulled the lever.
Before the doors could close fully a grounder slipped though and everyone to ready to fight.
"Jasper, now." Clarke said and Jasper switched the switch but nothing happened, he kept trying.
"Anya, you can't win." Clarke said as Anya looked around at everyone. Anya charged forward and started attacking, everything went to fast as someone who got startled moved and pushed Madelyn over, Madelyn fell down the opening to where they were trying to fire the rockets.
Madelyn let out a grunt of pain as she'd landed on her bad arm, it hurt like hell, it felt wrong, the yelling from upstairs was still heard but was more muffled, a second later Madelyn felt the whole thing vibrating, Madelyn who'd tried to get up fell over and her head hit something causing her to black out.
