꧁★ act two — chapter eight ★꧂
Madelyn slowly opened her eyes and the first thing she heard was the muffled sound of someone walking, she imidieatly got up and made her way toward the opening which was now closed, she tried to push it but it didn't budge. "fuck."
She tried to push it again and again, with more and more weight but nothing happened other than her shoulder suddenly shifted and she was in an intense pain, she groaned in pain and sat down back to the wall as she held her arm, she tried to yell out but couldn't get any words out as she was in pain and tried to just breathe through it.
A little while went by and the pain didn't stop, then she heard someone else entering the drop ship and heard someone talking.
Madelyn got up and decided to try again, she ignored the pain and banged on the hatch. "Hey!" She yelled out and she banged and banged on the hatch and she yelled out in pain and frustration and dropped to her knees and held her arm in pain.
Madelyn gasped and looked up as she heard a noice above the hatch, she looked up as the hatch opened and she was met with the face of a man and Abby Griffin.
"Abby.." Madelyn whispered, Abby smiled down at the girl and the man helped her up, Abby helped Madelyn outside and when they got out there, Madelyn sighed in relief as she not only saw Murphy on the ground, but she saw Finn, Bellamy and Cameron standing around.
"omg.." She said and they turned to her, Cameron's anxious face immediately became one of relief. "Maddie!" He yelled as he ran forward and pulled her into a hug only for her to yell out in pain.
"What hurts?" Abby asked in worry as she looked at Madelyn, Madelyn gasped in pain and pointed to her shoulder, Abby helped her take of her jacket. "Can I take this off?" Abby asked as she pointed to her shirt, Madelyn nodded her head and Abby helped her pull it off as Madelyn groaned in pain.
Abby gasped as soon as her shirt was off, Madelyn had awful bruises everywhere, scars and cuts but then her eyes landed on Madelyn's shoulder, an almost sickening site, her shoulder was dislocated completely out of it's place.
"Madelyn.. In order for your arm to not get extremely bad, I have to relocate it here, it's completely out of its place." Abby explained, Madelyn just nodded her head just wanting the pain gone.
Abby took a deep breath as she positioned Madelyn who made pained noises every time she moved her arm, when Abby finally got it in the right position, Madelyn didn't even get a second to think before she felt a sharp pain that made her yell out and would immediately sent her straight to the floor if it wasn't for Abby holding her up.
"hey, hey, breath." Abby said and Madelyn did as she was told, already feeling a whole lot better but still in a little pain. "What happened?" Abby asked as she pointed at the bruised and scars.
"I fell down a cliff." Madelyn said and she looked at the ground. "Oh my... are you okay?" Abby asked and Madelyn looked up. "I feel somewhat okay, but Clarke hasn't had enough time to be sure so she just ordered me to sit still and look pretty." Madelyn said and Abby let out a little chuckle.
"Well you definitely did that part really well." Cameron muttered, everyone turned to him, he looked up and saw everyone looking at him.
"Did I say that outloud?"
Madelyn walked alongside Cameron behind some of the others, as they neared a cleared walking out of the woods, Madelyn was blinded by the sun for a second, when her eyes adjusted she gasped, the ark was on the ground.
Madelyn looked around as they walked closer, when she and Cameron walked into 'camp' Madelyn looked to her left and caught the eyes of Marcus Kane, the very man who'd told the chancellor to lock her up, he quickly looked away from her and Madelyn swallowed the lump in her throat.
After being locked up for so long, people still feared what she would become.
Madelyn turned at the sound of doors opening so did Bellamy, Madelyn sighed and slumped down in her seating position on the floor as Marcus walked into the room.
"How long are you gonna keep us locked up in here?" Bellamy asked, Madelyn looked at his still bruised and scarred face, there was still dried blood on his face but they hadn't been handed anything to clean themselves up with.
"Till I'm confident you're no longer a threat to others." Marcus spoke as he grabbed a chair. "Seriously? Marcus, it had been so long, I get maybe you don't think he has but really? after this long I still haven't proven myself too you?" Madelyn spoke refusing to let the tears burning behind her eyes come through as she looked at him with anger on her face, the tears weren't sadness, she was just getting that angry and frustrated.
She wanted to cry out in pure anger.
But she couldn't do that, if she did, she would become the one thing Marcus always said she would.
"Let's continue." Marcus said completely ignoring Madelyn and sitting down. "You said there were hundreds of grounders attacking. Two, three hundred?" Marcus started asking and Madelyn rolled her eyes and Cameron sat down beside her not wanting to participate in the answering questions.
"I didn't count." Bellamy shot back which earned a smile from both teens on the floor. "Why do you think they attacked? What provoked them?" Marcus asked. "We were here. On the ground. That was enough." Madelyn spoke before Bellamy could say anything.
"We're wasting time. The others didn't just vanish into thin air. They were taken, and we need to go after them." Bellamy spoke slightly raising his voice before lowering it again. "A search team is prepping to leave. But not before we've gotten the intel we need from you." Marcus spoke, Bellamy then walked closer to him and practically got in his face, but sitting down instead of doing something stupid despite his anger and worry.
"I need to be on that team. Please." Bellamy spoke. "Bellamy. No." Madelyn spoke, she didn't want him to leave, Bellamy turned to her for a second and gave a slight smile before turning back to Marcus. "I need to."
"It's out of the question. You're not trained, It's too dangerous." Marcus which brought Madelyn a little comfort knowing he didn't want to allow Bellamy to go. "Those are my people out there." Bellamy spoke and Madelyn understood, he wanted to go find the others but part of her didn't want him to go, she just couldn't explain it.
"They're my people too. You wanna help them? Tell me what we're up against. Grounder tactics. Their numbers. What kind of weapons they used." Marcus spoke as he leaned forward in his seat.
"Arrows and spears. Axes. Swords. Their teeth." Bellamy spoke shaking his head. "No guns?" Marcus asked and Bellamy shook his head. "You had guns." Marcus continued.
"The guns we found at the aid depot leveled the playing field. Maybe... Maybe if we had more bullets, we could've--" Bellamy started speaking looking at the ground, it was clear to everybody in this room right now, that Bellamy felt guilty about not being able to save the others.
"There were more bullets. Search team just returned from the bunker. Found two more barrels with rifles... ...and a third filled with bullets." Marcus explained, Madelyn didn't even have to look at Bellamy's face to tel how he felt, she just knew, it was strange but when she wasn't allowed to do anything other that 'sit still and look pretty'
she observed. and she noticed details about people and that also meant learning to read Bellamy's emotions based off of his body language or the way he talked.
"We should've looked harder." Bellamy spoke, then the doors opened. "keep walking." A man spoke, Madelyn looked up and saw Murphy and Cameron.
"You. Doctor Griffin wants to see you." The same man said, Madelyn got up on her own the best she could, ignoring the pain and made her way over to the guy, a few gunshots were heard on their way out they all ran toward it but the man didn't let go of her, forcing her to run and being dragged with.
After the commotion was over Madelyn was now sitting in the tent waiting for Abby to come in, Madelyn looked up as someone approached, it was Abby, she walked in and gave her a soft smile, Abby never looked at her the way any of the others did, she didn't understand it but she wasn't complaining.
"Hello Madelyn, let's get you checked out before these injuries might get worse." Abby said as she found the things she needed and laid them down on a table beside the little bed. "You just lay down on you stomach and we'll take a look at your back first." Abby spoke and Madelyn turned and laid down on her stomach.
"Alright quite a lot of bruising and some cuts that will heal with time, now roll over on your back." Abby spoke, Madelyn nodded and rolled over. "How is Raven doing?" Madelyn asked knowing she's in one of the other 'rooms'.
"She's doing alright for now, she's got a tough choice to make though, not something I should be talking to you about." Abby said as she raised one of her eyebrows and pointed at Madelyn. "Okay okay." Madelyn spoke as Abby pushed up her shirt and started checking out her stomach and ribs.
"Can I ask you a question?" Madelyn asked, Abby hummed in response and kept checking out her wounds as she waited for her to continue. "Why don't you look at me the way they look at me?" Madelyn asked and Abby paused. "What do you mean?" Abby asked as she stopped what she was doing and looked at Madelyn who was still looking at the ceiling.
"When the others from the ark look at me all I see in their eyes and faces is this constant fear or disgust, like they fear me so much that it disgust them, but when I look at you I don't see that." Madelyn spoke, Abby slowly started tearing up at that knowing what the girl had been through.
"Because I don't fear you... and you must certainly do not disgust me." Abby spoke, Madelyn's whole chin and lower lip wobbled as tears slipped out of her eyes but she didn't say anything, just kept looking at the ceiling.
Abby nodded and continued examining her torso, she went down to her thigh where Murphy had shot her, she winched when she got too close.
"Can you tell me exactly how you got these different scars?" Abby asked, Madelyn sniffled but nodded as she sat up with a small grunt.
"This thing happened with this little girl around my age, her name was Charlotte, like I said some things happened which resulted in her jumping off of a cliff, I was in her way and her arm hit me right here." Madelyn spoke and tapped her chest.
"So I fell down, though not as hard and she jumped further out whereas I just fell and I tumbled down some of the cliff instead. My thigh.. I got shot, like Raven and then after all that I fell down, where you found me and I'm guessing that's where my shoulder dislocated." Madelyn spoke and Abby nodded along to her words taking it all in.
"Alright, well, the bruising and some scars should go away in just a matter of time could be a couple of days, maybe a couple week, I can't tell you exactly, some scars are deeper than others, so some I can't tell if they'll go away, you'll just have to wait and see." Abby explained and Madelyn was the one nodding along this time. "Other than that you should be okay, when you feel better, you can walk, run, jump, hell even dance as much as you want." Abby said, Madelyn smiled at the woman.
"You're free to go." Abby smiled. "Thank you, Abby." Madelyn said, the woman nodded and Madelyn made her way out of the 'hospital' tents.
AUTHOR'S NOTE!!
Hello! I try my best to make long chapters now that I don't really post that often, but most chapters are just one episode in one, sometimes two depending on how many scenes I write with one episode.
I do try my best to make it longer by adding scenes that are not a part of the series if you know what I mean, but I don't always have any ideas af what to put in, but I do try my best to make them a lot longer, but truth is they're pretty much only 2k words with each episode so I hope that's alright.
Any opinions on this chapter?
We're officially in act two, how are we feeling, because I'm feeling awesome, honestly, I've never actually finished act one of any of my books before this one so that's exciting.
I will be honest and say that so far act two is so bad, I might rewrite it at some point but not right now :)
Alsoooo.. if anyone who reads this book would like to be tagged every time I publish a new chapter, let me know! And I'll do that!!
This chapter is dedicated to @qwatarz
