-Chapter 97-

Syn: We'll be ready in 10 minutes.

I scoffed and dropped my phone on the bed. It didn't take a genius to figure out what he got caught up doing, especially when you could hear it. But as long as they were still together, I could handle covering my ears.

Grabbing the remote next to me, I turned on the tv and flipped through the channels until I end up on a dramatic reality show called Real Housewives of Jeradua. I usually didn't watch this dumb shit but Cleo recommended it.

Heavily.

After a few minutes, I hated to say it but I got completely absorbed in the show. So much so that I jumped when my phone rang beside me. I took a relaxing breath and picked up my phone to see Caspian calling and a smile graced my lips.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Hello, Xavier." He said smoothly with his foreign accent vibrating through the phone. "Are you busy?"

I looked around my room and at my bored sprawled out state on the bed before sighing audibly. "I'm pretty busy, but I have a few minutes. What may I help you with?"He chuckled deeply on the other side of the phone and I furrowed my brows. "What's funny?"

"You're busy, but you picked up my call on the second ring?" He quipped.

I sighed. "What do you want, Caspian?"

"You," he began and my eyes widened. "...to hang out with me tonight. I'm bored." I released the breath I was holding and rubbed my head. This man knew what he was doing, there was no reason to pause after saying 'you'.

"Where's Cleo?" I asked.

"She ditched me to go take some cooking classes. Lord knows she needs it, bless her heart."

"You sound like Anna," I pointed out with a laugh.

"Yuck," he replied in disdain. "So hang out with me?"

"I'm going out to eat with Syn and Queen," I said sadly. I was happy to hang out with them but a part of me didn't want Caspian to feel like I didn't want to spend time with him.

"They're back together?" He asked.

"They are."

"Good. I'm happy for them."

I nodded slowly and smiled. "Me too."

"So...some other time then?" I could hear the hope in his voice and if I was like him I'd point it out. But I'm not.

"Yeah."

"Bye Xavier," he said coolly. There was no reason for his voice to sound as hot as it did. It was ridiculous. I rolled my eyes and took a deep breath.

"Bye Cas."

With that, I hung up the phone and groaned against the headboard. I hadn't hung out with Cleo or Caspian since my stay at their house and I missed them. Tonight was going to be a long night of third-wheeling and thinking about them.

Invite him, X!

I immediately sat up and grabbed my phone to go to his contact but I paused when I thought about it more. I've never really asked Caspian or Cleo out. Last time it was Queen who sent a message to them because I couldn't. And I still can't.

Do it pussy!

What the hell?

I bit the inside of my cheek as I thought about the analytics of asking Caspian to come.

1. He asked to hang out first so that increases the probability by 78%.
2. He's bored so he's 92% more likely to go.
3. He likes Syn and Queen, another 63%.
4. He likes me...100%.

There was no way he could say no if my math was correct. With that in mind, I picked up my phone once again to call him back. I dropped it once again when Jess came to mind. I thought there was no way she could say no but then my math was fucked up as well.

Just fucking do it!

Fine. I pressed the call button before I could think twice about it I held my phone up to my ear. After two rings Caspian picked up and I fidgeted with my bedsheets to distract myself from my nerves.

"Yes, Xavier?" He drawled.

"Um...are you still free tonight?" I shot out.

"Ummm...I happen to be quite busy but I may have a few minutes. How can I be of assistance?" He teased as he threw back the words I said to him earlier.

"You're busy but you picked up on the second ring?" I retaliated.

He chuckled softly. "What can I say? I suppose I'm eager to hear your voice."

I muted him momentarily and let out a silent scream into my hand. There was no way I was fangirling right now, I couldn't be. He just had a way with his words, I mean why couldn't I have come up with something that clever?

"Xavier, did I stun you into silence? I tend to have that effect." He snickered smugly.

Okay...and just like that, the moment was over. I sat up and unmuted him with a sigh. "Anyways, would you like to come to dinner with us?"

"I wouldn't want to intrude," he said. I furrowed my brows, this sounded so different from the typical asshole that Caspian was, or maybe I just don't know him well enough yet. That would change soon though.

"You wouldn't be. Come."

After a few seconds of silence, Caspian spoke up, "Okay, I will."

"I'll text you the address. We'll be there in about 30 minutes."

"Okay, Xavier. See you soon," he replied. I could've sworn I heard mischief in his voice but before I could point it out he hung up. I quickly sent him the address and shot up from the bed to go to the restroom.

I had already taken a shower and got ready but now I was rethinking my entire outfit. My cartoon character t-shirt suddenly felt childish. I pulled it over my head and threw it to the side and rushed to my closet.

A knock disturbed me from my mission and I sighed. "Come in!" I yelled from the closet as I continued rummaging through it.

I heard footsteps walk in and come my way and I moved my head in the direction to see Jess. She stood at the entrance of the closet and smiled nervously at me as she crossed her arms.

I brought my attention back to my clothes and cleared my throat. "What can I help you with?"

"I just wanted to talk," she said. "Can we do that?"

This was the last thing I needed right now but I wasn't going to be a dick to someone I considered a friend. "Fine."

I grabbed a random shirt which happened to be another one with an animated character and threw it on. I walked past her outside of the closet and sat on my bed. She followed behind me but remained standing and looked down at me.

When she stayed silent I raised my brow at her.

"I haven't been feeling good these past few days," she admitted.

My concern immediately went to the baby and I frowned. "Is the baby, okay?"

"Yeah, he's fine." She rubbed her stomach and smiled at me.

"A boy?" I grinned up at her.

"I just found out today, you're the first to know," she said.

"Why wouldn't Nate know first?" I asked curiously. Usually, it was the father who got the news first.

"He didn't come to the appointment and he's not picking up my calls, so...you."

So you...

No wonder she was here.

"Okay," I replied softly as I picked up my shoes.

"I'm sorry about what happened on Queen's birthday. I wasn't myself, Xavier," she said as she rubbed her eyes. "I'm just sorry for everything."

"Jess," I started. "You do realize how this looks right?"

"What do you mean?" She questioned in a defensive tone.

"It's been a week since Queen's birthday and you've made no effort to reach out to me. But as soon as Nate leaves, here you are."

"He didn't leave."

"Okay," I replied in a disbelieving tone.

"He didn't, he's probably just busy." She shrugged.

"Too busy to come to find out his baby's gender?" I asked dryly.

She looked away from me and shook her head. "I didn't come here for you to bash him, I just haven't been feeling well emotionally and you always cheer me up." I nodded but remained silent. "You just...always know what to say, Xavier. You make me laugh for fuck's sake. I'm just happy when you're around. And you're always here when I need you, and I kind of need you right now."

"All of that...and you chose Nate," I said slowly as I stood up and grabbed my jacket.

She laid a hand on my chest to keep me from walking away and shook her head. "I know but I just..."

I moved away from her hold and when I reached to pick up my wallet she pulled my face to hers. My eyes widened as I felt her lips make contact with mine. I used to remember when this was all I wished for but it wasn't the same anymore. She used to be the only person I wanted but now two other people were weighing heavy on my mind.

I pulled away from her and took a step back as I pinched the bridge of my nose.

"I'm sorry, I don't know what got into me," she said in a shaky voice as tears rolled down her face.

I wasn't in the mood to be around her anymore, but I didn't want her upset. I wrapped my arms around her for a hug and she cried onto my chest.

A few moments later she wiped her tears and I let go of her and took her hands into mine. I looked into her eyes and sighed.

"Listen, Jess, I care about you a shit ton. But I can't let you use me like you've been doing...like you still are. And until you understand what you're doing, we can't be friends."

"I thought you wanted me," she said softly.

"I've moved on," I replied honestly. I didn't realize at what point I lost feeling for her but I suppose it was at some point after I met Cleo and Caspian.

Her lip quivered and she quickly took her hands away from mine. She rushed out of the door and slammed it as I threw myself onto the bed in frustration.

Well...that was a fucking mess.

Definitely.

A knock sounded at the door again and before I could say to come in, Syn barged in and clapped his hands slowly. Queen walked in behind him and shook her head in his direction.

"You heard that?" I cringed.

"Yes," Syn said as he sat down next to me. "Are you alright?"

I sat up and leaned my head on his shoulder and laughed softly when I felt him tense. "I'm okay."

Queen walked in front of me and lowered herself to hug me and I relaxed as I hugged her back. "I'm glad you've moved on," she said.

"Me too," I muttered.

"Okay, that's enough," Syn said as he removed Queen's arms from my neck and pulled her to him.

I laughed as Queen pouted in his arms. I wasn't sure about them together when they first met, but I had to admit they made an adorable couple. I'd never admit it to Syn though, he'd kill me.

"I invited Cas, I hope that's okay?"

"That's fine," Syn said. "But we should get going because I'm hearing Queen's stomach growl and it's not the best sound."

Queen slapped his arm and glared at him so profusely that I was surprised there wasn't a hole in his head.

"I'm hungry," she said with a frown. "Don't shame me."

He looked down at her and kissed her cheek quickly. "I would never."

They were cute...but more so gross. Thankfully I wouldn't spend the night being alone bystander to their "antics".
