-Chapter 81-

I stood up wearily from the floor and held the shoes in my hand. With the back of my hand, I wiped my tears, took a deep breath, and left the stall.

Going to the bathroom counter, I sighed as I looked at my now destroyed make-up. I wasn't really angry though. I was confused and upset. I didn't know how to feel about anything, but I was no longer scared at least. Taking a deep breath, I set the shoes on the counter and turned on the water.

I washed my face with the cool water and felt exhilarated as I washed away my worries. Granted, I was pissed at not knowing about myself, but I couldn't help the calm that radiated throughout my body.

I looked at myself in the mirror and noticed the necklace on my neck burning a bright red. What the fuck? I picked up
the gem in my hand and eyed it, wondering what was going on.

I wasn't getting burned, but it was still glowing. I looked back at my reflection in my mirror and saw my eyes were a bright red color along with the necklace. I blinked a few times and when I looked again, it was gone.

Was I imagining things? I couldn't have been. I only had one drink tonight so I wasn't drunk enough to be seeing all these things. As I stared at the mirror a crack appeared, followed by another. I looked away from the mirror and the fracturing stopped. I turned back again to see what would happen and it continued once again. I felt lightheaded as I watched the mirror become painted with cracks and fissures. After a few moments the entire mirror burst, sending shards of glass my way.

I held up my hands in defense instinctively, but I couldn't stop the pieces of glass that dug into my skin. I winced in pain as I looked at the large shard in my arm. Blood was dripping down my arm and instead of being repulsed and in pain, I couldn't look away from it. I watched as the crimson color dripped down my arm and onto the white marble floor.

Slowly, I pulled out the piece, not paying attention to the way it pierced my finger. I watched as the wound on my arm closed, not showing any signs of damage besides the blood staining my skin. I calmly removed the rest of the glass and turned on the faucet.

I put water on my arms and watched the diluted blood go down the drain. Out of the corner of my eyes, I could see my reflection in a broken piece of glass. I should've been freaking out that my eyes were red like Syn's, but I just closed my eyes took a deep breath, and ignored it.

When I opened my eyes they were back to their brown color as I sighed. Why now? Why after all this time was I able to do this?

Maybe it was because of the revelation.

I took napkins and wiped my skin dry and proceeded to walk to the door. I halted when I got to the door and turned back to see the stilettos on the counter amongst the broken glass. Should I leave it?

Before I could stop myself I walked back to them and picked it up. Taking one last breath I pushed through the bathroom door and walked back into the restaurant. I marched through the corridor, past the staff, and headed towards the door.

A woman grabbed my arm as I was leaving and when I turned to her she took a step back in fear. A small smile appeared on my lips and I looked at her in mild confusion. "Yes?"

"I-...umm I was wondering if you were going to eat your food, at the table." She pointed to the table where Cole and I had left. There was a stack of money laying there along with two fresh plates of food. I looked back to the girl who I now noticed was wearing tattered clothing with a small child in her hands.

"Your eyes...they're red," she said.

I took a deep breath and closed my eyes to get rid of it once again and faced her. "Now?"

She gave me a small smile but diverted her eyes from mine. "They're brown now." I didn't even know what triggered the color changes, but I needed to find out soon if I didn't want to creep people out.

The child in her hand gave me a toothless smile and I pointed at him. "How old?"

"A year and a half old." She said nervously as she took a tiny step back. She seemed afraid of me, but I couldn't understand why. It wasn't like I hurt her.

"He's adorable," I said. I turned back to the table and shrugged. "You can take the food and the money as well if you'd like."

"Thank you so much."

I gave her a small smile and walked out of the restaurant. The streets were still busy even though it was so late at night. We got to the club at ten, so I could only imagine what time it was. I felt for my phone but stopped when I remembered that Cole had it. With that in mind, I walked back into the club and back to the section where everyone was.

"Hey," I smiled. They all grinned at me, but Cleo's smile dropped as she looked at me longer. She stood up slowly from her seat and walked to me. "Come with me," she whispered as she grabbed my hand.

"Well, okay," I said with a laugh as she dragged me to the restroom. She burst through the doors the women in the room looked at us.

"Get out!" Cleo snapped at them. They scurried out of the restroom and I crossed my arms as I waited for Cleo to say something. She looked at me for a bit longer and a few moments later, a smile broke out on her face.

"There is no human spell around you anymore," she said with a brow raised.

"I have no idea what you're talking about," I said.

She smirked at me and shook her head. "What the hell are you?" She asked in awe.

"I don't know," I answered, keeping my eyes away from the mirror. I refused to have another glass cracking episode. I didn't want to spend another ten minutes pulling glass out of my skin.

"The aura I'm getting now is pretty terrifying," she said and my smile dropped, "but I like it. It feels badass."

"You're a mess," I whispered.

"I need to get away from you," Cleo said as she walked towards the door. "I'm getting turned on." I laughed as she exited the bathroom and I followed behind her. We returned to Xavier and Caspian who were giving each other weird looks that made Cleo and I look at one another.

"What's going on?" I asked them.

"Nothing," they both said at the same time.

"When did you two become best friends?" Cleo asked as she crossed her arms.

Xavier wrapped an arm around Caspian making him glare at him, but he couldn't hide the blush that appeared on his cheeks when Xavier kissed him.

"This is weird," Cleo said. Caspian opened his arm for Cleo to sit between them and she happily obliged. I was surprised that she didn't mention what she knew about me to them. "I like those shoes," Cleo said as she pointed to the heels Lilith had given me.

"I like them too," I replied. "I'll be right back. There's something I need to do." I still hadn't gotten my phone back from Cole and I needed to. I didn't know how or where it came from, but I had a newfound sense of confidence and something else...an adrenaline not making me stop to think about the repercussions of what I was about to do.

Cleo raised a brow but gave me a knowing smile. "Good luck."

"Be safe and come back soon, please. Syn would kill me if you died on my watch," Xavier said.

I rolled my eyes and shook my head as I turned away. Syn couldn't care less what happened to me. With that lingering sadness in my chest, I walked back to the bar Cole where Cole approached me earlier.

I sat on the barstool, leaning my arms on the counter as I turned to the club to search for him. A tap on my shoulder made me turn back to the bar and look at the bartender from earlier.

"You're back." He smiled.

"I am."

"So you're not new here?" He asked with his chin in his palm. I was about to tell him what I said earlier until I remembered what he told me.

"I guess I'm not."

He laughed softly and ran his hand through his long dark hair. "Hang out with me on my break."

That wasn't supposed to happen. I didn't think I was flirting, was I? Being with someone who wasn't Syn didn't sound appealing, but I did want to stop thinking about him for a bit. It wasn't like I was looking for a rebound though. Someone to talk to...and just talk to about anything other than myself sounded nice. "Sure."

He grinned at me and looked away nervously. "I'll see you in ten minutes." I tapped on the bar table rhythmically and walked away from it. Looking around once again for Cole, I caught his eye from the second floor where he stood with his wife.

I walked up the stairs and to his section when a bouncer stopped me with his hand. "You can't be here, ma'am."

"I need to talk to your boss," I said as I tried to move around him. His large body covered mine and I sighed. "At least tell him I'm here." The bouncer looked at me momentarily before nodding and walking towards Cole, whispering something into his ear. Cole looked over at me with a grin on his face as he walked toward me.

"How may I help you?"

"I need my phone back," I said.

"Why should I give it to you?"

"Because it's mine?"

He laughed along with the two bouncers on his sides and I felt a fire bloom from inside me. I clenched my jaw as I watched him throw his head back in laughter and when his eyes finally met mine, he stopped laughing.

I watched as he swallowed air and stepped back. My eyes must be red again. "My phone. Now...pretty please."

"She lifted it?" He muttered in question as confusion was on his face.

"Excuse me?" I asked.

"Here," he said as he quickly took my phone out of his pocket. "Sorry, just take it and leave me alone."

"Okay," I said slowly as I took it from his hand. That was a lot easier than I thought. I shot him a quick smile and turned away from him. On my way back to the first level I checked my eyes in my phone reflection and closed them to return them back to their normal hue.

When I reached the bottom of the stairs a hand reached for mine, making me look up at the person.

"I'm off," the bartender said.

"Okay."
