-Chapter 52-
Syn spent the morning with me trying to calm me and it worked. I didn't know what it was that made me so emotional, but it was painful. I wished that I couldn't remember what I dreamed about but at the same time, I didn't want to know.
If it hurt me that badly, maybe ignorance was bliss.
"You feeling better?" Syn asked as he rubbed my arm. I nodded my head gently against his chest and took a deep breath.
"I'm okay."
"Hey." He said as he tilted my head up towards his. He searched my eyes for a moment and softly kissed my lips. "You can tell me anything, okay?"
I looked away from his powerful gaze and nodded my head. "Okay."
"Are you still tired?" He asked.
I shook my head. I was in fact a little bit tired but I didn't want to sleep again. I was afraid for what would happen.
"You have a long day today, Princess. Get a few more hours of rest." He said as he moved to leave the bed.
I sat up immediately and reached for his arm. "You're leaving me?"
A look I couldn't place passed his face and he shook his head softly. "Never. I was just going to prepare something for your birthday."
"Oh." I said as I let go of his arm.
"Do you want me to stay until you fall asleep?" He asked softly.
I looked at him strangely. He was usually never this intuitive. I usually needed to spell things out for him but right now it seemed like he knew everything I needed.
"Please," I said.
Without any questions asked he returned to the bed with me and pulled me into his chest. Within a few minutes, I drifted back to sleep.

"Wake up, Princess."
I groaned at the voice at turned the other way to ignore it.
"It's almost 1pm, I let you sleep for five hours."
With a stretch, I turned to face my intruder and saw a freshly showered Syn sitting at the edge of the bed. Looking absolutely breathtaking, he was wearing sweatpants and a black shirt, the tail of his dragon tattoo peeking through the top of his neckline.
"Stop staring," he said in a soft tone.
I smiled sheepishly and sat up in the bed, forgetting that I was still naked. Noticing my state of nudity I quickly raised the blanket over me.
Syn's jaw clenched at my actions and I remembered his words about me covering myself with him.
"It's my birthday. No being mean to me," I pouted.
"I'm never mean to you."
"Right," I teased.
"This is for you." I watched him stand up to walk to the nearby table and pick up an item. When he turns back to me I noticed a cupcake and my mouth dropped.
"Is that red velvet cake with-"
"With white chocolate bits and roasted pecans? Yes, it is exactly that." I squealed in my spot as I kicked my feet against the bed excitedly. He sat down on the bed next to me and pulled a candle and lighter from his pocket. "One candle, because you are number one."
I cringed at the corny joke and when he noticed my face he shook his head softly. "I was kidding. I couldn't find any more candles."
I smiled at him as he placed the candle into the center and lit it.
I waited patiently as I looked between him and the candle.
"What?" He asked.
"This is where you sing," I said matter of factly.
"Oh, fuck that." Shaking my head I burst out into laughter and blew out the candle. What did you wish for?"
Shit. My dumb-ass was too hungry to think of a wish. The only thing I was wishing for was to sink my teeth into the red cupcake in front of me.
"I forgot to make a wish," I admitted.
He shook his head and relit the candle. "Let's try this again, shall we?"
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.
I wish for Syn SinClaire.
With that, I blew out the candles and grinned up at him.
"Well?" He asked with a brow raised.
"I wished that this cupcake would taste as good as it looks." It wasn't a lie truthfully.
He scoffed and rolled his eyes. "You're a mess."
I took a bite of the cupcake and moaned as the sweet flavor oozed into my taste buds. It was almost as if I felt my souls leave my body to heaven and return here.
"You like it?" Syn asked.
"I love it."
He moved his finger to my lip to wipe off the frosting that I had there and brought it to his mouth.
"Good, it took me hours to perfect it."
My eyes widened as I looked between him and the cupcake. "You made this?"
"Yes."
My eyes watered at the revelation and I shook my head. "For me?" I asked as my voice broke.
"Who else?" He asked hesitantly.
My lip quivered as I sniffled and looked down at the cupcake then back at him. Tears rolled down my face and I held back a sob, all the while Syn looked at me as if I was crazy.
"Syn.... if-...if you-" I sniffled as I tried to get my words together. "If you want to marry me, just say that." I took another bite of the cake and let more tears fall when I was reminded of the heavenly taste.
"You're insane." He brought a napkin to my face, wiping away all the tears and I blinked away the fogginess. "I have something else for you. But I'm only giving it to you if you promise not to cry."
"I promise I'll try not to cry."
"Not what I said," he warned.
I pouted as I took another bite of the cake. "I promise," I mumbled with a full mouth. He walked to the closet and when he returned he had a small red envelope in his hand. I took one more bite of the cake and set it on the nightstand.
"How do you manage to get frosting on your nose?" He asked as he kissed my nose.
"It's an acquired skill."
"My mother helped me pick this," he laid the envelope down in front of me and I picked it up. I gently opened the envelope and revealed a red gift card that read:
$500 Lexington Spa
A picture of a lady on a massage chair lay on the card and I nodded slowly. "Ooooh. I like it."
"You hate it."
"No, not at all," I said quickly. "I love spa-...I mean I've never been to one but I will be going now." I said as I closed my eyes and did an excited mini dance in my spot. I opened my eyes to see Syn looking at me with his arms crossed and I spoke up. "You seriously did not need to get me anything, Syn. I love it though. It's a very thoughtful gift, I needed a massage because you-"
"You like thoughtful gifts?"
I nodded and he raised his brow at me.
"Luckily for you, I'm a very thoughtful person."
Right...
I grinned at his words as he walked back into the closet. A moment later he returned with a large blue gift bag and set it in front of me.
"I hope you like them."
A smile tugged the corner of my lips and I brought my attention to the bag. Before I could reach in to open it, I noticed Syn bouncing his leg.
"Are you alright?" I asked.
"Yes. Open it." He urged. "Now."
I nodded as I pulled out the decorative paper and set it aside. Reaching my hand into the bag, I closed my eyes and pulled out the first thing I felt.
When I looked down at the item, my heart soared.
"Ahhh, I needed socks," I said excitedly.
"I know."
"These are adorable," I said as I looked at the socks. They each had different animated pictures on them and I beamed up at Syn.
"Yes," he said. "And, they're matching."
"How exciting." He rolled his eyes at my response and I laughed before setting it aside and reaching into the bag for the next gift. I held up the item and laughed softly as I looked at it. "Hair ties?"
"You keep losing yours." He said with a shrug.
With that, I pushed aside the bag and hugged him tightly. "Thank you."
"There's more." He said.
I removed my arms from around him and he positioned me on his lap.
I reached into the bag and pulled out the next item. As soon as I looked at it I began screaming in joy. Syn jumped at the sudden noise and I continued screaming into my hand.
"You found it!"
"I found it."
I opened the candle in my hand and I took a long sniff, letting myself smile as I exhaled. I had been looking for this specific scent for the past few months but found it nowhere.
"Smell," I said as I held the candle to Syn's nose.
He cringed as he sniffed it and turned away. "It smells sweet."
"We're going to light this in here.," I said as I closed the candle.
"We are not."
I scoffed at him and set the gift down on the nightstand. I moved to pick up the next gift but Syn stopped me. "With the way you're reacting we will be here all day. You can open the rest later. Right now, I have something else for you."
I moved from his lap as he walked to the closet and returned to me a moment later. He placed a red jewelry box in my hand and I looked up at him. "What is it?"
"Open it," he said.
I opened the box and my eyes widened as I saw a diamond necklace. There was a crown pendant dangling from the middle with hints of a red gem. When I remained quiet Syn gently nudged my side. "Do you hate it?" I shook my head softly and continued looking at the enchanting necklace. "Are you about to cry?" I rolled my eyes at his words and shook my head.
"I spelled the necklace with my blood," he said. "So if you ever find yourself in trouble. You can temporarily take my abilities as your own." When I still wasn't talking he continued. "I'll teach you how to use it soon if you want."
"I love-...I love it all," I said softly as I looked into his eyes.
"Really?" He asked.
I nodded and he kissed my cheek.
"Put this on me?" I asked, gesturing to the necklace.
He gently picked up the necklace and I turned as I lifted my hair.
With a small click from the necklace locking it in place, he kissed my neck and I turned back to him.
"Well? How do I look?" I asked as I posed dramatically. His eyes raked my body and then returned back to my eyes.
"Amazing."
