-Chapter 49-

I sat myself up on Gen's bed as she continued ranting about her and Lucifer's newest argument. I had been used to Lucifer doing the same in Hell, but this might've been worse. I never realized how crazy they were about one another until I heard them both rant about the other.

This morning Gen called me and asked if I wanted to hang out and I was hesitant at first but when she told me Jess wasn't here, I hopped on the opportunity. It was now two and I had been in here with her for three hours now talking about everything under the sun.

"Where is James?" She asked.

"He's staying with Ethan and his family for a few days for a party they are having this weekend," I answered. James was a bit reluctant to be friends with Ethan and first but luckily they grew on one another. He was the son of one of the servants here and apparently he had been in need of a friend here as well. It was a win for both of them.

"Great. And speaking of parties we should discuss Queen's birthday," she said excitedly. I nodded in agreement, but before I could give her a reply she gasped. "Wait," she said as she gave me a mischievous smirk. "Has the couple from the club texted you?"

Genesis was the only person besides Syn who knew about what happened at the club. I planned on telling Queen, but I just got home last night. My one night stand had somehow turned into a long stretch of four days. I had an amazing time with them and they made me feel things I hadn't felt before, but I wanted to keep it private for the most part. I would only talk about it with people that I was comfortable with. That did not include Jess and thankfully Genesis understood that.

"I haven't checked my phone since I left their place," I admitted. After they asked for my number, as soon as I got home I turned my phone off so I wouldn't be too anxious as I waited for a message.

"Check it!" she squealed. I laughed at her reaction and pulled out my phone, turning it on.

"I'm a little nervous," I admitted.

"Here, how about I check for you?" she asked as she held out her hand. She and I locked eyes and took a deep breath in unison. We both nodded and she raised my phone to open it but before she could continue there was a knock on the door.

Gen groaned in annoyance and turned to the door. "Ughh, come in."

Queen peeked her head in the door and pouted. "I expected a happier welcome."

I grinned at Queen and Genesis practically ran to the door and pulled her inside. They wrapped their arms around one another and Genesis screamed in excitement.

"I've missed you." She said as she pulled away. "Are you okay?" she asked sincerely. I had been caught up by almost everybody on what I had missed during the days I was away, and I was shocked. I left for four days and a girl died, a wolf vandalized the palace, and a stalker resurrected the dead. It was almost enough to make me never want to leave again.

Almost.

Queen nodded at her and smiled softly. "I'm great."

"Okay, now you're keeping her all to yourself as well. Like mother, like son," I teased and Gen rolled her eyes as she let go of Queen.

"Oh, no need to be jealous. There's enough of me to go around," she said as she came to me and gave me a large hug. I wrapped my arms around her, thankful that she was okay and she pulled away after a few moments.

"If Syn heard you say that, you'd be in trouble," I said as I burst into laughter, Gen joined my laughter and Queen just looked between us as her cheeks reddened.

"Shut up," she muttered as she tried to conceal a smile.

"Is he the reason you're dressed as if you're going to church?" Genesis asked as she took her seat on the bed.

Queen gaped at her and looked down at her outfit. "I look fabulous, excuse you."

Gen and I snickered as Queen looked at herself in the mirror. She was wearing a fitted grey, long-sleeved wool dress that ended a bit above her knees. I had to admit that she did in fact look like a churchgoer.

"So how did you manage to escape my best friend?" I teased as Gen and I passed each other knowing glances.

Queen glanced at us and shook her head as she tied her hair into a messy bun. "Saying escaped implies that I'm there against my will...but anyway, I snuck out."

I had heard the two arguing for quite a bit throughout the night. But I also heard...other things after it so I assumed they made up.

At her words, we all began laughing and Gen practically wiped tears from her eyes. Queen shook her head and hopped onto the large bed, now sitting across from us.

"Well, regardless of the circumstances of your...captivity," Gen began as we held in our laughs. "We're glad you're here."

Queen beamed at us and moved stray hairs behind her ear. "So what were you guys doing before I came?"

I looked at Genesis and she gave me assuring smile and I turned to Queen and told her the entire story about the club and the couple. When I was finished Queen began squealing and clapping her hands together. I didn't know the addiction these girls had to screaming when they were excited, but it was crazy.

"Wow." She said as she settled down. After a moment she bit her lip and wiggled her brows at me. "Spill! We want details!"

I gawked at her and looked to Genesis for some support but she looked at me with a curious smile as well.

"I'm not telling," I said as my face became heated.

"Oh come on Xavier, spill..." My eyes snapped to the source of the deep voice and I saw Syn walk in and close the door behind him.

I watched Genesis' face turn from one of contentment to pure joy at the sight of her son. From all the talks with her, I learned that she always wanted to be closer to him, but had no idea how. I knew for sure this was making her happy.

"Are you following your girlfriend?" I joked.

"Shut up," he muttered. The three of us tried to hold in our laughter, but it became difficult as we looked at each other's faces. The first of us to break was Queen who buried her face into her hands as she broke out into laughs. The sound of her laugh in turn destroyed the defenses Gen and I had up.

"What is so funny?" Syn asked as he pulled up a chair to the foot of the bed.

Our laughter died down and I took deep breaths to try to calm myself. There was nothing genuinely funny going on, but this group of people always made me laugh over nothing.

Queen lay down on her stomach and faced us as her feet dangled in the air. "So Xavier, tell us."

I leaned my head against the headboard and Gen laid a hand on my shoulder. I took a deep breath to stop myself from smiling at the memory of the couple. I didn't even know their names and my mind couldn't stop thinking about them.

I looked back down and saw Queen waiting patiently with a smile on her face. I looked behind her on the bed to see Syn just looking at her and I smirked at him. He looked up at me and rolled his eyes as I had caught him.

"Fine, I'll tell you when Syn can stop staring at Queen."

Syn glared at me as Gen began her "awws". Queen turned her head to face him and I couldn't see what face she made, but he studied her with complete adoration. When she turned back to us she gave us a small smile and laid her head on her arms. Syn moved his chair forwards to the bed and crossed his arms onto Queen's lower back and laid his chin down.

"I'm not staring so now you may continue," he muttered.

"What do you guys want to know?" I asked in defeat. This was going to be an incredibly uncomfortable conversation.

"Who was hotter? The guy or the girl?" Genesis asked.

"They...we're both equally hot," I admitted. They both looked completely different from one another, but in my eyes, they were both devastatingly beautiful and unlike anyone I'd ever seen.

Queen glanced between Gen and I before propping herself up onto her elbows. "Well, I guess I'm going to have to ask the question we all really want to know." I winced at her words and squinted, not prepared in the slightest.

"So...as a man was involved," she began and I held my breath awaiting her next words. "Were you the hotdog or the bun?" Genesis coughed and burst out into laughter as Syn shook his head softly. Everyone in the room knew what she was talking about except me. Even Syn to my surprise was aware.

"I don't understand..." I said as I shook my head and looked around.

"Were you the door or the key?" she asked as she wiggled her brows. I looked to Gen beside me for any help as to what was going on, but she was dying of laughter on the floor beside her bed. Queen looked at me and noticed I was still having difficulty and raised her brow. "Top or bottom?"

"What the hell is going on right now?" I asked. I had never felt so dumb in my entire life and Syn sighed.

Before Queen could give me another combo Syn spoke up. "Did he fuck you or did you fuck him? It's not that hard to understand."

My mouth dropped as I realized what they were talking about and I buried my head in my hands. Sensing my embarrassment they all quieted down and I lifted my head up. They were all looking at me curiously and Genesis was biting her lips to keep herself from laughing.

"Umm...both I guess," I admitted.

Queen gave me a proud nod and smiled at me. "Verse...I like that."

"No, you don't," Syn said in a serious tone, making Queen roll her eyes and hold back a smile.

I didn't get what they said, but Gen explained it to me and I burst into laughter. We fell into a conversation about the past few days and I told them details that I felt comfortable revealing. After a few minutes, I remembered the text.

"Gen, the text!" I said. I sounded maybe a little bit too excited, but I couldn't help it.

"Oh shit, right," she said as she picked up the phone. We all took deep breaths and Syn rolled his eyes at how dramatic we were and Gen unlocked the phone.

She had a neutral look on her face, but as she read it I watched the corners of her lips tug into a smile. "Hey, Xavier it's Cleo and Caspian. Don't feel pressured to say yes, but we were wondering if you'd like to hang out again sometime." Genesis screamed as she read the text out loud. "It can be a dinner or a date to get to know each other if you're interested, but we'd just like to see you again!"

Genesis began bouncing with glee on the bed and Queen was slamming her feet into the bed in excitement, making Syn's head jerk with each movement.

"What are you going to say?" Syn asked.

"I don't know. I'm nervous to go out with them alone." I said as I rubbed the back of my neck. My cheeks hurt as I tried to contain my smile but it wasn't working.

"Well hey, tomorrow is the auction," Gen reminded me. "Why don't you invite them?"

"No." I shook my head. "You guys are going to embarrass me."

"We would never..." Syn drawled out.

"Just invite them," Queen said. "We'd love to meet them, and we will be on our absolute best behavior."

Right.

I sighed, wanting to see them again soon and I shrugged. "I'll ask them." Queen and Gen cheered at my giving in and the three of us fell into a random conversation that Syn found no interest in at all as he played with a random thread on Queen's dress.

"Gen, what do I do tomorrow?" Queen asked. "I haven't prepped at all."

"Understandably," she said to her. "Just be yourself. I'm sure the man who will bid the highest is already in this room." She rolled her eyes.

"Damn right," Syn muttered.

The door to Gen's bedroom opened and Jess peeked her head inside. Genesis stood up to greet her, but Jess didn't acknowledge her as she pointed to Queen. "You. I need to talk to you."

"Umm," Queen looked at us awkwardly before hopping off and scurrying to the door. "I'll be back."

She closed the door behind her, and Gen and I looked at one another knowing that what just happened was weird. "Well okay," I said. "That was weird."

Genesis waved her hand. "She always does this, I'll talk to her later. As for now, I need to ask you something, Syn."

"What?"

"What are you getting Queen for her birthday?"

I snickered at her words and Syn turned to me. "What?"

"You'd be better off getting her nothing, Syn."

"Why is that?" Genesis asked curiously. I explained to her over the years how horrible Syn was at giving gifts and she burst out into laughter.

"On one of my birthdays, this man right here bought me condoms, a plunger, and band-aids...He just put it in a gift bag and had the audacity to say 'Happy Birthday, I hope you like what I got you.' Me being me, I said 'Of course I will'. I couldn't tell you how quickly my smile dropped when I looked at the gifts."

Genesis laughed even harder at my story and Syn crossed his arms as he looked at me. "Did you use everything I bought you?" He asked me.

I looked up in thought, shrugging as I nodded slowly. "I did."

"Then that sounds like a good birthday gift to me," he said.

"Syn," Gen groaned, "girls are different. Please don't get Queen something weird."

"What should I get her?"

"I'll help you shop for her today," she offered, "only if you want me to."

"Sure." He shrugged, pulling out his phone and looking down at it. I turned to Gen who was trying to contain her excitement as she looked at me and I sent her a thumbs up. Hopefully, this would be a step in the right direction for them to build their relationship.
