-Chapter 139-
3 Months Later
After Syn's death, I didn't know how to live anymore. He and I were never close but he took a large part of my heart with him when he died. I spent months trying to cope but it was hard, especially since I didn't have Lucifer anymore.
He left me after Syn's death since I couldn't bring myself to let him kill Felix. Lucifer was desperate enough for justice that he even begged me to give Felix jail time, but I couldn't do it. Syn was no longer with me so I needed Felix in my life or I'd go insane. Besides, there was no proof ever found that Felix was involved.
"Mother." My eyes snapped up in Felix's direction and he smiled at me from across the table. "You should eat," he said as he gestured towards my untouched plate.
I looked down at my breakfast and sighed as I picked up the fork. Slowly, I ate, not because I was hungry, but because I didn't need him to worry.
Xyla was humming a tune while on her phone as if she didn't have a care in the world. The death of Queen's child did nothing to her, if anything I'd say she was happy for some reason. The both of them did get what they wanted after all.
"What are you doing today, mother?" Felix asked.
"Today is Syn's will reading," I replied.
He dropped his utensils and looked up at me. "Were we not invited?" he asked humorously as he glanced at Xyla who was now paying attention to the conversation.
"Why would you need anything from his will?" I asked in a dry tone, not hiding the edge in my voice. "You both already took the throne. What more do you want?"
"I'd watch my tongue if I were you, mother," he replied, his lips curling into a smirk.
I gripped my utensil and fought the urge to talk back to him which was increasing. After becoming King, Felix had become an arrogant and cocky person that I didn't know. I knew it was bound to happen- faults of having so much power, but I didn't think it'd come so soon.
"Will Queen be there?" Xyla asked curiously.
"I don't know."
"Aren't the two of you best friends?" She pressed.
"I haven't spoken to her in a while," I answered truthfully. Queen didn't want to speak to me either and she said it was because I "sided with Felix and Xyla". I didn't think it was fair and I tried reaching out to her multiple times, but she never answered. I wished she and I could've mourned together. She was the only one who could've related to my loss on a different level. She lost a child as well.
Xyla tried to speak again, but I pushed my chair back and stood up. "I'm leaving now. It starts in one hour. Goodbye." I bowed slightly and rushed out of the room. I scurried to the entrance of the palace and was greeted by Sergio.
"Ready to leave so soon?" He asked.
"I want to stop by somewhere first."

Thirty minutes later, Sergio pulled into the cemetery. I slowly stepped out of the car and walked to where Syn was buried. My steps, however, were halted when I saw a woman in a coat holding flowers at his headstone. I continued walking toward her and stop a couple of feet behind her. She replaced the old flowers with new ones and I could hear her crying.
"Excuse me?" I asked, gently tapping her shoulder.
She whipped around and my heart dropped when I as I saw Queen. She wiped her tears and looked back at me, standing up tall. "What do you want?"
"I just came to see my son and granddaughter," I said as I gestured to the grave. Syn and Xavia were buried together after Queen gave birth to her. I heard from the doctors that the baby was deceased when she came out and my heart broke for her.
"I'll leave you to it," she muttered, walking past me.
"Queen, wait!" I said as I grabbed her arm. "Can we talk?"
She snatched her arm out of my grasp and scoffed. "I don't want to talk to you, Genesis."
"Please just a couple of minutes. You've become such an angry person that I-"
"An angry person?" She seethed. "My husband and daughter died! And their murderers are running free, Genesis. Lucifer and I begged you for any sort of justice from Felix and Xyla, but you protected them."
"Felix is my son, Queen," I said as tears streamed down my face.
"And Syn wasn't? If Syn were the one to kill Felix, he'd be killed by the Kingdom. But Felix becomes king? That's not right." She cried.
"I know and I'm sorry," I said, pouring every ounce of my heart into my words. I dropped to my knees and clasped my hands together to beg her for forgiveness. "Queen, please. Please forgive me, I'm begging you!" I sobbed.
I saw her eyes water and for a moment I was hopeful that she would forgive me, but before any tears could spill she took a shaky breath and looked at me with a small laugh. "You helping them makes you an accomplice and for that, I'll never forgive you."
"Queen!" we heard a voice call. We both turned and my heart practically jumped out of my chest when I saw Lucifer get out of a car. He glanced at me before looking back at Queen and tilting his head. "We need to go."
Without another word, Queen walked toward him and got in the car. They sped away and I sobbed harder than I had in months since Syn died.
"Ma'am we need to go or we'll be late," Sergio said as he tried to pick me up. With his assistance, I stood up weakly and we made our way to the car.
"Hey," Jess said as she took my hand. "Everything will be okay."
I nodded and leaned my head against the car seat. Being out of the house was a new thing for me after all this time. I spent a lot of my hours searching for any sort of way to bring Syn back, but I found nothing. I looked to black magic once again, but I used the only resurrection spell in existence the first time Syn passed. Giving up, wasn't something I'd do though. I just needed to search somewhere else.
"Are you nervous about seeing Cleo and Caspian?"
"I told you not to say their names," I muttered as I moved my hand out of her hold.
"It's a logical question," she said. "You're about to see them after the breakup."
"I don't want to talk about it, Jessica," I said smoothly.
Jess gave birth a couple of months ago and Nate left her again. I stepped in to help her out, but that plus my behavior after Syn's death put a strain on my relationship with Cleo and Cas. Me going to help Jess over being there for Cleo's birthday was the final straw and we broke up.
Without them things were rough, but I dealt with it for everyone's sake. I was still the friend everyone needed to talk to but it was hard to put a smile on my face when I was miserable.
Jess took my hand back into hers and I shook my head. She had been relentless in her attempts to get me to be her boyfriend. We were getting closer, but I didn't love her anymore. I still loved Cleo and Caspian no matter how much it pained me to think about them.
The car came to a stop at a building and I stepped out with Jess. My eyes landed on Queen and Lucifer waiting at the door. Queen turned to see me and waved her hand at me. I let out a sigh of relief and rushed over to her. She pulled me into a tight hug and I felt emotional all over again.
We tried to keep in contact after everything, but we were both grieving in our own way and lost contact for a while. The last thing I heard about her was that she moved to Hell with Lucifer and James.
Lucifer laid a hand on my shoulder and nodded at me. "How are you doing?"
"Just surviving, I guess."
Queen pulled away from me and held her face in her hands. "You should shave."
"You don't like the beard?" I teased.
"I hate it." She laughed, proceeding looking at me for a long moment before sighing. "Cleo and Caspian really miss you, you know?"
"They do?" She nodded. Her eyes landed behind me and I turned to see Genesis and Jess talking. "Still mad at her?" I asked Lucifer and Queen.
"I don't know how to forgive her," Lucifer said.
I nodded in understanding. I didn't agree with what Genesis did at all. Lying to the court for Felix and Xyla's sake was wrong, and it pushed me over the edge. After a couple of months of not speaking to her, I reached out to make sure that she was okay. We still talked occasionally but our relationship was forever strained.
Queen sighed and took my hand. "Well let's go inside, shall we?"
We sat at the round office table and waited for the last few people to show up. None of us even knew that Syn wrote a will until a while after he died. The lawyer stated to us that Syn didn't want a funeral and that in two months we'd meet to read his will.
For weeks I stayed in bed because I didn't want to face the world. Thankfully though, Lucifer dragged me out of bed and I got my act together. I moved to Hell since there was nothing in Jeradua or Heaven for me anymore and Lucifer helped me grow my magic more. That helped to fill some of the emptiness, but there was still a large Syn-shaped hole in my soul. I had nightmares for months where I'd wake up at night reaching for him, and it was still something I struggled with.
The only thing that kept me a little bit sane was the hope of killing everyone involved in Syn and Xavia's death. Including the damn Seers.
I smiled up at Cleo and Caspian as they walked in. They each took a seat on either side of me and I watched as Xavier tried his best not to look at them. The tension in the room was awkward, but nobody pointed it out.
"Since everyone's here," the lawyer said as he stood up.
"Let's get started.
"Mr. SinClaire left a will and inheritance for the following people, if your name is not on the list I'm going to need you to step out. Xavier Young, Genesis SinClaire, Queen SinClaire..."
"Wait when did he write this?" I asked. I only became a SinClaire seconds before he died so I didn't understand how it could be on the will.
"March 20th," the lawyer said.
That was over a month before he died and weeks before I said yes to his proposal. I sat back and smiled, realizing what Syn had done. The man knew I'd say yes before I did it.
"...Lucifer, James SinClaire, Caspian Deveaux, and Cleo Moore-Deveaux," he read. He looked up and our heads moved to the one person he didn't call. Jess glared at us and stood up and stormed out of the room. Cleo coughed beside me and I kicked her under the table, making her shoot me an innocent look as I shook my head.
"Before we read the will, there is a letter addressed to you all that I'm to read out loud," he said sternly as he carefully put his glasses on. He cleared his throat and picked up a few pieces of paper.
"Hello everybody, if this is being read to you it means for one reason or another, I'm no longer with you all. I'm sorry to leave you all truly, but I hope you're okay. After this reading, I've instructed lawyer Thomas to guide you all to a party that I planned...."
Xavier gave me a disbelieving look and the lawyer cleared his throat and continued. "Yes Xavier, I actually planned it. Consider it my final gift to you all. I don't want there to be crying. I want you to celebrate and have fun."
The lawyer lowered the paper and looked at us. "I'll give you all the address when we're done."
He went to another page in the papers in his hand and held it up again. "I have no idea where to start so maybe we should start with who I met first to last.
"Staring with my mother, I know we weren't always the closest, but you were my favorite person when I was a child. I'm grateful for everything you've done for me. I'm sure I wasn't the easiest person to deal with, but thank you for always choosing to see the best in me. To you, I leave all my cars since you wanted them so badly. Don't crash them or I'll haunt you. I've also left you a large inheritance. I hope you live a long and happy life. I love you."
Genesis sobbed into her hands and I didn't know if it was from guilt or sadness. Maybe a bit of both. I wondered if Syn would've said the same thing about her if he knew what she did.
"Next, let's go to my father. Oh, what should I say about you Lucifer? I know you'll deny it but you were a great father. There was never a dull moment with you...I mean it in a good and bad way.
"Thank you for being the trickster that you were, if it weren't for you I wouldn't be here. I hope you accomplish what we couldn't, father. For you, I leave my properties in Hell and James's future inheritance. Take care of him and mom. Also...PROPOSE to her. Marry her and never break up, please. I'd tell you I love you, but I don't want you throwing up."
Lucifer pinched the bridge of his nose and looked up at the ceiling and Genesis cried more. A part of me felt for her and I wanted to comfort her, but I couldn't. If I forgave her, what type of person would I be? I'd need to forgive all of Heaven as well and that would never happen.
"Let's talk about Xavier Young, shall we? Xavier, if I know you and I do...you're desperately looking for a way to bring me back. But I'm telling you here and now, stop. Give it up. I don't want you to waste your life looking to bring me back. Let me go.
"I know that you spent a lot of your life bearing the pain of things so I didn't have to. So I'll be selfish and ask you to do it this last time. Call me a coward, but I hope I died before you. I couldn't imagine living in a world without you being my best friend. Thank you for being my friend, my partner, and my brother. Thank fuck for your annoying ass tenacity all those years ago. Thank you for staying by my side no matter what. And thank you for just walking up to a weird little boy that wanted nothing to do with you."
I cried at his message to Xavier and I watched as Xavier completely broke down. He lowered his head to his arms and wept at the letter. Cleo walked over to him and wrapped her arms around him to comfort him. He looked up at her and buried his head into her neck as he cried. Caspian moved to them and he joined their hug, wiping Xavier's tears as they all turned to the lawyer again.
"To you Xavier, I'd like you to have my business. I hope you continue it, but if you decide to sell it, that's fine too. Grow, prosper, and may your days be filled with love...hopefully from a specific blue-haired woman and pink-haired man. It may not matter to you, but I approve of them 100%.. Goodbye, Xavier. I love the fuck out of you...not in a gay way."
