-Chapter 125-

Over the past couple of hours, the dining room emptied as people left. The only people that now remained were Queen and me along with Cain and Xavier. We were waiting for Lilith to bring the gun, but it had been almost three hours since she left.

Xavier leaned his head against the chair and groaned. "How much longer will she take?"

"I don't know," Queen muttered as she checked her phone for the third time. She remained on my lap and I kissed her shoulder to soothe her worries. All her trust in Lilith was gone. She even contemplated tracking her down multiple times over the past hours just in case she decided to double-cross us.

Xavier sighed. "I don't think I trust her..." Our heads moved to the door as we heard the clicking of heels and a moment later, Lilith walked in. She limped into the room with soaked hair and clothing and set a rectangular box on the table.

She looked down at Queen in anger but composed herself. "Lift the lock," Lilith spat. "I gave you the gun so I want my powers."

Queen shook her head. "Tsk, I don't think I will."

"You told me what if I gave you the gun, you'd give it back," she screamed. I felt my blood boil as Lilith raised her voice at Queen but I pushed down the urge to step in. Queen seemed to be holding her own and I wasn't going to interrupt her.

"I changed my mind," Queen said.

"You're a liar," Lilith spewed.

"Like mother like daughter," she replied calmly.

Lilith scoffed and began nodding slowly. "That's fine. I have something for you all." I rolled my eyes and before any of us could reply to her ominous words, she strode out of the room. Cain stood up and reached for the gun, but Queen raised her fingers and the gun moved away from Cain.

"Not so fast," she said.

Cain groaned and threw his hands up. "What do you want?"

"How can we trust that this gun won't be used against us in the future?"

He tilted his head in our direction and sighed. "I would never hurt any of you, trust me."

"I hope you understand that we can't trust you just yet. We only met you today," Queen said.

A proud swell in my chest rose and I smiled at her. She had taken my advice not to trust everyone for the sake of our child's safety and I was pleased by it. Cain seemed alright, but everyone did in the beginning. We couldn't take any risks.

"So how can I get the gun?" he asked in an annoyed tone.

"Work on perfecting your artifacts in Hell," I replied. "None of them ever leave Hell until we trust you."

"Seriously?"

"Those are our terms."

"Eh, okay whatever that's fine. I suppose it isn't really safe to be keeping them in a warehouse anyway."

My eyes widened and I gawked at the dumbass in front of me. Was he insane? Anybody could break into a warehouse and if one gun was causing such a mess, another one-or hundred, would be the end of the world.

"Are you fucking serious?"

"What?" He shrugged. "I locked it."

I rolled my eyes and shook my head. "Hell is where the artifacts are going. Take them there and this gun will also be there when you arrive."

"Sounds fine." He sighed.

"Now what?" Queen asked.

"Now we go to bed," I said.

Queen got up from my lap and I stood up, taking her hand into mine as I looked back at Xavier and Cain who were still sitting down. "Cain, Xavier can show you to a guest bedroom if you'd like to stay." He and Xavier nodded and Queen and I took the chance to leave.

As soon as Syn and Queen left I got up from my chair and sat directly in front of Cain. There was something about him that I wasn't completely sure about. And I didn't like that. Reading people was my specialty, it was what I was known for, but him...I couldn't do it.

"Tell me about yourself, Cain," I said nicely.

"What do you want to know?" He chirped.

"Anything."

"My name is Cain ummm...I'm old, don't have a favorite color, don't have a favorite movie-...wait maybe I do," he looked up at the ceiling in thought and then looked back down at me. "Nope, no favorite movie, no favorite food-"

"So you're just a boring person?"

"Well I wouldn't say boring," A slow smile spread across his lips smile.

"What do you do that's remotely interesting?" I joked.

"That depends," he replied with a shrug.

"On what?"

He leaned forward onto the table and shot me a smug smile. "If you're a snitch."

"I'm not."

He nodded slowly and laughed. "Well then, I have a few selective...hobbies, for lack of better words."

"What are these 'hobbies'?"

"I rob banks occasionally and I train subs."

As crazy as it sounded the bank robberies weren't the thing that piqued my interest. "Train subs?"

"Yes, believe it or not, I'm a dominant."

"And people come to you to be trained?" I asked in confusion.

"Well, it depends. Usually, it's rich men with snobby wives that are demanding obedience from them. With the right monetary incentive, I can make it happen," he said whimsically as he waved his hands in the air. "Other times it's bored soccer moms that have kinks that their husbands won't indulge in."

"Interesting."

He eyed me for a few moments before speaking up again. "You seem intrigued. Are you looking for a dom?"

I immediately laughed and shook my head. "No, I have a girlfriend...and boyfriend."

"Lucky them," he said smoothly.

I scoffed and shook my head at him. "Are you seriously flirting right now?"

"I flirt with everyone."

"Why?"

"I like seeing people squirm," he said simply.

I nodded and sat back in my seat. "No girlfriend or anything?"

"Nope," he said. "Never had one, never will."

My eyes widened more than they ever have before. "You're so old though. Why not?"

He laughed and shook his head. "I've never been interested in any one person long enough."

"That's sad, kinda..."

He shrugged it off and I looked down at my hands. There still was still so much about him that I didn't know, but I'd have to learn. I didn't want him near the baby or Syn and Queen unless he was trustworthy.

"You're making a lot of guns," I started slowly. "Who are you trying to kill?"

"My mother."

"Eve?" I asked in shock.

"Yes, she killed me so it's only fair I do the same to her," he said. I could detect anger in his tone and his hands balled into fists on his lap. I didn't know him long enough to gauge his emotional response to things, and I didn't want some sort of outburst so I decided to lighten the mood a bit.

"I dated your mother in the past."

"That's...fucking disgusting," he said with a scowl.

"Looking back, I suppose. But we dated for a few months."

"Are you okay? Mentally?" He asked with a voice full of mock concern and I rolled my eyes.

"I could be a lot better mentally, but I'm okay."

He nodded and sat back, keeping his eyes on me. "She always does some shit. What did she do to you?"

"She killed Syn."

"Are you serious?"

"Yup."

"Do you think Syn would help me kill her?" He asked quietly. "I could do it myself, but I'm not fully positive about it."

I laughed and nodded. "Syn and I would help you, Lucifer would help you, Hell! Queen would probably help you too!"

"Why would Queen help?" He questioned.

"Because Eve killed your father, her dad...that's enough motivation right there."

A sad look passed across Cain's features and he shook his head. "My father is dead? When?"

Oh shit. "You didn't know?"

"He never told me and I haven't seen him for years. I only see him in my dreams, but that's very rare. I just believed he didn't want to be seen in public with me," he scoffed quietly and looked down at his lap.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know you didn't know."

He took a deep breath and looked back up at me. "It's alright. This is just more motivation to kill my backstabbing mother."

"We have your back."
