-Chapter 123-

I sat on the bed ashamed of myself for being so lazy. Syn was packing all of our things and wouldn't let me do anything. I hated watching him do all the heavy lifting but every-time I tried to help...he just looked at me.

The look wasn't a terrifying one, but it stopped me immediately. It was a simple raised brow and stare.

So I was left to sit on the bed and tell him if he was missing random things around the room. He would oblige by my requests silently and it made me frown. For the past few days, he'd been acting out of character. He went out almost every night and I wasn't insecure about our relationship, but my curiosity was piqued.

He'd leave at night and I'd feel him come into bed hours later. I wouldn't say anything since I told him that I didn't care what he did as long as he was loyal...but what loyal man sneaks into bed late at night?

I sighed and my insecurities surfaced. I didn't want to smother or bother him but I needed a tiny bit of reassurance. "Syn, are you cheating on me?" His back remained to me but all his movements stopped. I bit my lip and fiddled with my fingers as he remained quiet. I waited for him to speak for a few moments but after a while, he resumed his task and completely ignored me. "Syn-"

He dropped the item in his hand and ran his hand through his hair. "Queen, are you fucking insane?"

"I'm sorry, you've just been going out a lot recently."

"Who would I cheat on you with?" He asked seriously.

"I don't know."

"There is no one else, Queen. You know there isn't," he said.

I nodded and took a deep breath. My head was just beginning to get to me. "Are we almost done?" I loved staying on Earth, but I was ready to go home. Home meaning Syn's room. The rest of the palace housed the world's biggest liars.

"Yup," Syn said as he closed a suitcase. "This was the last one."

I stood up from the bed and laid a hand on my stomach as I stretched. I grabbed my purse and phone and walked over to Syn. He wrapped his arms around me, laying a kiss on my head and pulling me against him. "Are you ready for tonight?"

"Not really," I muttered. "But we don't have a choice."

"We got this, okay? We just need to get the gun and we're good. Okay?"

I nodded quickly. "Okay." The dinner with everyone was tonight and I'd been nervous about it for the past couple of days. I didn't know how I'd confront them. I was especially worried about my sister and father as they were master manipulators.

Everyone, along with Lilith was to join us tonight. None of them had any idea what was going to happen though. We wanted to keep the element of surprise and didn't want to risk them doing something stupid.

Syn created a portal into his room and I quickly walked in, jumping when I saw a man lying in his bed. He was wearing a dark suit and fully dressed as he looked boredly at the television. He shot me a glance and winked at me as though we knew one another.

"Who the fuck are you?" I yelled.

Syn walked through the portal carrying our bags and I turned to him. He noticed my worried expression and his eyes drifted to the man on the bed. Within almost one second, Syn grabbed the man from the bed and held him against the wall by his neck. The man smiled down at him as his feet dangled above the floor. He looked dangerously calm for someone who was about to be killed.

"Cain," Syn seethed.

"Put me down...please. I'm into this but you're not my type, Syn," he said in a humor-filled tone. Syn dropped him and the man landed swiftly on his feet as he adjusted his clothing. "What the fuck are you doing here? You're supposed to be in Hell."

"I'm here to see my baby sister," he said with a grin. He took a step in my direction, but Syn immediately stopped him with a hand to his chest. The man looked down at Syn's hand and scoffed. "I'm not going to hurt her."

Sister? Cain? I don't know why it took me so long to put the puzzle pieces together but when I realized who he was to me I covered my mouth. Cain looked at my shocked expression and smiled nonchalantly. "Move, Syn. This is a family reunion."

Syn glanced at me and I gave him a nod of approval. No longer being blocked by Syn, Cain walked over to me. I froze as he pulled me into a hug and I furrowed my brows as I felt his body shake with laughs. "I've been waiting to meet you." He pulled away and his eyes dropped to my stomach. "I hope you're fat and not pregnant."

I stepped away from him and frowned as I held my stomach. "I'm pregnant."

"Oh wow, I'm sorry," he said sincerely as he held a hand over his chest.

"Why are you sorry?" I asked in confusion.

"Your life is over, little sister."

I frowned but before I could say anything Syn came to my side. "Why are you really here Cain?"

"Well firstly, I was sent here to watch out for you," he said as he pointed to me. ", and also, I felt the need to invite myself to this dinner. It's only fair since it's about my gun, no?"

"So you're here to hear about the gun?" Syn asked dryly.

"No, I'm here to retrieve the gun."

"That's not happening. It's going back to Hell."

"I think not," Cain said as he clasped his hands together. "I need it."

"For what?" I asked.

"None of your business, my love," he said in a cheery voice as he tapped the tip of my nose. I crinkled my nose in disgust and he grinned at me before looking back to Syn.

"We're not giving it to you. Especially if you won't tell us why you need it."

"Fine, since you want to be a nosey fucker..." Cain said as he dramatically threw his hands up. "That specific gun was made by my mother, with no flaws somehow. It's the last one that works. I've tried to make some myself, but they only kill victims temporarily.

"So you want us to give you the gun so you can learn how to make more?" I asked slowly in understanding.

"Bingo! You're smarter than you look," he pointed out.

"What does that mea-"

"But essentially sister, yes. I'd like to create more. I have a list of people I'd like to erase from existence."

"There's a reason the weapons have been taken away, Cain," Syn spoke up. "They can start a war."

"There's a simple solution to that," Cain said with a shrug.

"And what is that?" Syn asked.

"It doesn't."

"Huh?" I let out in confusion. Syn looked just as lost as I was as I watched a puzzled look appear across his face.

"The answer to not letting it start a war...is to not let it," he said simply.

"I don't think it's that simple," I said.

"It can be," he said as he began walking around the room. "I can be trusted with the artifacts, I'll hide them."

Syn took me by surprise and snickered at his words. "You're not exactly the greatest at sleuthing, Cain. If I remember correctly, you got caught immediately after killing your brother."

Cain's eyes snapped back into our direction and he held his finger up. "There were four fucking people on the planet. If there's three all of a sudden, it doesn't take a damn genius to figure shit out."

"Mhmm," Syn hummed as he rubbed my back. I realized recently that it wasn't something that he did purposely, and it made warm tingles float across my body. I guess he got used to doing it so much that it was instinct.

"It's the truth," Cain insisted. "God watched everything and pretended he didn't see it. Asking me 'Where is thy brother Abel?', like the motherfucker didn't know. Abel was probably next to him and he had the nerve-"

"Relax..." I said as I interrupted his passionate rant.

"Forgive me, I get a bit...angry as I recall that bullshit," he said as he sat down at the chair near the table.

"Speaking of Abel, is he back too?" I asked hesitantly.

He scoffed and looked at me. "I hope the fuck not! I may be the first killer but he was the first the ultimate 'pick me'. Ughh, you just had to be there, sister," he said as a disgusted look remained on his face.

I shook my head softly and turned to Syn who was looking at me. "What?"

He shook his head. "Nothing."

Cain clapped his hands together from his seat and we turned to him. "Before I forget, I have a gift for you, Queen." He stood up quickly and grabbed a black bag from beside the bed. He flipped it over and a load of cash flooded the bed.

"Couldn't you have kept it in the bag?" I asked, frowning as I looked at the mess.

"I could have. But it wouldn't have been as dramatic," he said with a shrug.

I looked at the money and then back up at him with an amused smirk. "What did you do? Rob a bank?"

He held a hand over his chest and scoffed. "Why would you thin-...yes I did."

"Are you serious?" Syn asked from behind me.

"Eh, it's like this...why would you keep all your money in one place...and expect me not to take it?"

"Because people trust that their money will be safe in an institution like that," I said.

"That has nothing to do with me, quite frankly."

I couldn't help but laugh at the nonsense that came out of his mouth. He was a lot...funnier than I expected. Everything he said seemed amusing and as I thought about his words, something he said earlier nagged at me.

"You mentioned someone sending you here earlier, who was it?" I asked.

"Dad actually, he came to my dream and asked. I hadn't seen him in years so I knew it was serious. Besides I was excited to have another sibling, maybe I won't kill this one this time, huh?" He joked as he nudged Syn's arm. When Syn looked at him blankly, Cain stopped. "Too soon for the joke?"

"There won't be a reason to kill me," I said as I held my hands up. "I'm not going to make you jealous or anything."

Cain sighed and shook his head. "That's not what happened."

"What happened then?" I asked. I was taught that Cain killed Abel out of jealousy because he felt God preferred him. How could that not be what happened?

"You wouldn't believe me if I told you," he muttered as his features darkened for a moment. He quickly composed himself once again and a smile reappeared on his face. "I think we have a dinner to get ready for."

"How did you even know about the dinner?" Syn asked.

"That's a secret." I raised my brow at him and he rolled his eyes. "I had to bribe a few guards. Nobody realizes that it's always the guards that know more than the actual people that live in here."

"So fire the guards," Syn muttered as he walked to his closet. "Got it."

"I- umm..." I said as I pointed to the closet. "I should go get dressed. I hope you'll be okay alone for a bit?"

"I'm always good alone," he smiled.

I frowned at his words but nodded as I joined Syn in the closet. Syn was already shirtless and looking for a suit as I walked in. I softly closed the door behind me and let out a sigh of relief.

"What the hell?" I whispered to him.

He gave me an 'I know' look and shook his head. "Let's just get tonight over with and we'll deal with everything later."

"Okay," I said. I moved to my side of the closet and removed my sundress and let it fall to the floor. I sifted through the clothes in my closet and my eyes landed on the one that Genesis put in here a few days ago.

"We have twenty minutes, Princess," Syn said as his lips went to my neck.

I smiled softly and shook my head. "Don't do this, Syn. We just showered."

"I'm not doing anything. Just letting it be known that we don't have much time," he said as he moved to my neck.

I turned around and laid a hand on his chest. "We have all the time in the world after the dinner. Get dressed, baby."

He groaned but begrudgingly moved away from me to do as I said. I took his absence as my opportunity to get dressed, and I chose a golden satin gown. The dress hugged all of my curves and it was flattering, but it definitely didn't hide my baby bump. Everyone would be finding out tonight.

I quickly did a simple makeup look and slipped on the matching heels. I didn't have time to style my hair so I tossed it into a simple bun and called it a day.

"You look..." Syn said as his voice trailed away. He looked me up and down and I rolled my eyes as I tried to stop my smile. "Sexy."

"So do you," I answered truthfully. He winked at me as he adjusted the expensive watch on his and I felt my cheeks flame. He looked...sexy was an understatement. He was wearing a simple black suit and matching button-up but here I was, ready to risk it all and skip the dinner.

"You're staring, Princess," he muttered.

I laughed and looked away from him as I looked in the mirror once again. Tonight was going to be rough. I took the biggest inhale I had ever in my life and let it out slowly. I needed to calm my nerves.

Syn glanced at his watch one more time and reached out for my hand. "Everyone should be here by now."

We walked out of the closet and Cain looked at us in approval as he stood up from the chair. "You both look great."

"Thanks," I mumbled and Syn led me out of the room. Cain followed us out and when I glanced behind me I saw him studying the features of the halls. Admittedly it was a beautiful place, but I never took the chance to look at it for as long as he did.

We heard chatter from inside the dining room and my anxiety leveled up. I didn't notice the tight grip I had on Syn's hand until he raised a brow at me. "Sorry," I whispered.

He nodded and looked between Cain and me. "Are you guys ready?"

I looked at Cain who didn't seem to care either way and they both turned to me.

"I'm as ready as I'll ever be."
