-Chapter 106-
We said our quick goodbyes and left to go to Syn's other place. I bit the inside of my cheek and fiddled with my hands in my lap as Syn drove us. My eyes were trained on the view outside the window that distracted me from my insane nervousness.
It didn't hit me that I'd truly be alone with Syn. More alone than we've ever been since I met him. If I thought about it there was always someone close by. Whether we were in the palace or elsewhere.
Syn laid his hand on my thigh and I turned to look at him. He quickly winked at me and returned to focusing on driving. I got lost in his looks once again as I took in the scene in front of me.
His black hair was blowing in the wind as his green eyes remained directly in front of us. I rarely saw him wearing any sort of white so the white button-down shirt adorning his amazing chest was a new sight.
When he noticed my stare he squeezed my thigh. "Why are you staring at me?"
"No reason," I said quickly as I averted my gaze. His hand moved to my upper thigh and my breath hitched. He began slowly tapping his long fingers along my thigh and I smiled as I took his one hand into mine.
I kissed it and he glanced at me. Missing him, was an understatement for this week. I was going insane without him.
"And here we are," Syn said as he turned the steering wheel and pulled up to a gate.
He rolled down his window and typed into a keypad and the gate opened for us. I watched as Syn pulled into a large driveway with a luxurious mansion sitting at the end of it.
"Why is your heart beating so fast, Princess?" Syn asked as he parked the car.
"Just a little nervous," I admitted.
He turned off the car and turned to me. "Nervous about what?"
I shrugged and let out a breath. "We're going to be alone."
"Are you afraid to be alone with me?"
"I don't know," I muttered.
Syn eyed me for a moment and sat up in his seat. He held his hand out between us and I reached out to hold it, but he flipped it upside down and snapped. Black smoke came from his hands and when he turned it up there was a rose.
I grinned at the spell and looked back up at him. "Is it for me?"
He tilted his head at me and raised his brow. "No, I just like making roses appear out of thin air for myself."
I rolled my eyes at his sarcasm and picked up the rose. Within seconds I watched as the rose turned black in my hands, the now rotten rose petals began to fall off and I looked at Syn in confusion. "What did I do?" I whispered.
Syn looked just as lost as I did and I sunk into my seat. I still didn't know what I was and it wasn't looking good at all. "That used to happen to...umm..." Syn said lowly.
"What?"
"Pick up the petals," he instructed as he studied me. I wanted to ask him why but his serious expression made me stay quiet. I slowly picked up the petals and stem as he instructed. "Close your eyes."
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath as I waited for him to continue. "I want you to do exactly what I say. There is only one person I've seen that happen to with any type of flowers," he said.
I opened one of my eyes to see him looking at me with a serious expression. "Who?"
"Lucifer."
I furrowed my brows and shook my head. "What are you trying to say, Syn?"
"You seem to have that in common with him," he said with uncertainty oozing in his voice. "I want to try something that will let me know for sure."
"Okay...what is it?"
"It's a regeneration spell. If you can bring the flower back to life then I was wrong and you're some sort of...I don't know."
"And if I can't bring it back to life?"
"Then you're..." he sighed and ran his hand through his hair. I've never seen Syn look this stressed out and it made me scared.
"I'm what?"
"You're somehow a part of Lucifer."
"But you can bring it back to life, can't you? And you're Lucifer's son...so I don't understand."
"Lucifer is the only magical supernatural being that can't give life to things unless God grants him the ability. I'm his son, but I wasn't cursed like he was."
"So you think I'm his daughter?!" I asked in a shocked voice.
"Fuck no," he said in a disgusted voice. "I think you're him."
"Syn," I whispered as I searched his eyes for any proof of sanity. "That makes zero sense."
"Bring the flower back to life, Queen."
"I don't know how!" I exclaimed in an exasperated tone.
"Close your eyes and picture a red rose in your hand." I weakly looked away from him and did as he instructed.
"Take a deep breath and envision yourself in a barren field. The earth and soil beneath your bare feet," he said. "Feel the breeze of the cold air around you. Place yourself there.
"In your mind, look at the rose in your hand. Right now you should be feeling the energy from the earth around you. Every gust of wind, every breath you take only adding to your fuel. That energy should now be attainable to you."
He was right about that, I couldn't explain it, but there was a bubble of energy that I felt in the pit of my stomach. It spread throughout my body slowly and finally to my fingertips. "Open your eyes and use that energy to put life back into the rose."
I opened my eyes and watched my hands be surrounded by the same black smoke Syn had. "Put the pieces back together in your mind." I followed his instructions and pictured myself placing the petals back onto the stem one by one. As I did that the rose in my hand floated and I watched as the pieces put themselves back together. "You're doing it, Princess. Keep going."
I continued until all the petals were on and when I finished I let out a sigh of relief. "I did it."
Syn remained looking at the rose, making me frown as I looked back down at it. I watched as a small flame started at the stem of the plant. It slowly traveled up the flower and consumed it, leaving nothing but black ashes on my lap.
"That's what I thought," Syn said. I opened my mouth to speak but Syn snapped his fingers and I let out a small scream as I took in our new surroundings. We were in some sort of office.
"Where are we?"
The door burst open and Lucifer walked in. When he saw us he jumped. "Are you trying to give me a heart attack?!"
Syn stormed over to him angrily. "You have some explaining to do."Lucifer looked at him in confusion then back to me as if I could provide answers to the chaos going on, but I shrugged, making him look back at Syn.
"What the fuck are you talking about?"
Syn pointed to me. "Queen is cursed like you. Why?"
Lucifer closed his eyes and sighed. "I was going to tell you."
Syn ran his hand through his hair and I watched them both in confusion. I had no clue what was going on.
"Tell me now!" Syn snapped.
Lucifer looked between Syn and me and sighed as he walked behind his desk and sat down. "Take a seat," he said as he gestured towards the chairs. Syn came to me and took my hand, leading me to a nearby chair. He took the seat next to me and kept a death glare on his father. "Before everyone gets upset at me...I found out only recently what you were Queen."
"Just fucking say it!" Syn hissed.
Lucifer shifted nervously in his seat and faced me. "Lilith told me when I met with her."
"What did she say?" I asked softly.
"Your father Adam was a Nephilim, which is half Angel and human. And Lilith was a succubus."
"I don't know what that is..." I whispered as my head began to throb. "And why do you say was?"
"I'm sure you know the story. I believed Lilith was human, but she wasn't. She was the first succubus and she was created to make me fall in love with her and strip me of my power."
"So Queen is that?" Syn asked.
"I-...no? I mean yes sort of. When Lilith took my power from me, she became what I was. So she turned into a hybrid-half devil, half succubus."
"So what the hell am I?" I asked in frustration. To me, he was just listing a bunch of creatures and it made no sense.
"There's truly no name since you're the only one. As you know Syn is a combination of all the underworld and Xyla is of the Heavens...supposedly. You, on the other hand, are a mix of the Underworld, Earth, and Heaven. Making you the most powerful creature on Earth at the moment and a huge abomination to some," he ranted quickly.
I stared at him blankly and Syn remained quiet beside me. I held back tears from spilling and brought my eyes back to Lucifer. "Is that why Jonathan took me?"
Lucifer shrugged. "I don't know. But there's something you should know."
"What?" I asked. There couldn't be anything else that could be a surprise to me at the moment. Everything just...made no sense anymore.
"The blood of a Nephilim works like a fountain of youth. I was wondering what kept them so young...it may have been your blood." My heart stopped at his words and my thoughts went to my "family". Everything I had known about them was a lie. My entire life was a lie. A lie that I would've known nothing about if I didn't come to Jeradua.
Now knowing everything made me feel empty.
"So he kept me around so he and Xyla could stay young?" My voice broke. "Why don't I remember any of it?"
"Do you have chunks of your memory missing from your mind?"
I thought back to the past few years and remembered a couple of times where I'd wake up in bed with an entire day missing, the most recent time being a few weeks ago. My father would just tell me that I slept all day, and I used to believe him. I didn't even ask why my clothes were different, I just blindly believed him because he was my family.
My mother was gone now, but the thought of her knowing anything about this pained my soul. I wanted to remember the good things about her if I'd never see her again. If my memory of her was tainted with resentment I had towards my father, I'd go insane.
"Queen," Syn laid a hand on my thigh, interrupting my thoughts. My watery eyes met his as he looked at me and sighed. "I'm sorry."
I closed my eyes, letting the tears fall as the memories of my family burned holes in my heart.
