-Chapter 103-
I adjusted the tie on my suit for almost the tenth time in the past ten minutes as I stood in front of the mirror. I was in hell for the past hour getting ready and if I was correct, the party would be starting in two minutes. Of course, I'd show up a bit later for the plan, but I was thinking about Queen and Sebastian.
I trusted her around him, but I didn't trust him at all. Especially after he gave her that fucking bracelet.
Lucifer walked into the room and handed me a black mask.
"I'm not wearing this shit," I said as I dangled it on my fingers.
"It's a masquerade ball," he said dryly.
"Oh well," I muttered. I turned to look at him and saw him dressed in an expensive navy blue suit and raised my brow in question. "I didn't know you were going."
"I wasn't planning to but your mother is upset at me," he said in a frustrated tone as he placed a mask over his face.
"You look stupid," I pointed out.
He moved next to me to look in the mirror and shrugged. "I don't want people knowing I'm there."
"And a mask is going to conceal your identity," I said sarcastically.
"Of course," he said. "Anyway, create the portal. The party has started by now." Per his instructions, I went to a wall and created a portal to the inside of my room. We walked in quickly and the music from the ball was loud enough that the walls in my room vibrated to the beat. "Are you going down there right now?" He asked.
"No, I'm going to go check on James and I'll be down later."
My father put his hands in his pocket and nodded and he remained in his spot awkwardly. "What?"
"Can I come with you?"
"Why?"
"No reason in particular," he shrugged. It was pretty clear he wanted to see James. I never asked him how babysitting went, but he never offered any info on it. His sudden desire to see him made me question it though.
"Okay," I said slowly as I walked to the door.
We walked in silence for a few moments until I reached James's room. I knocked a few times but when he didn't answer I opened the door to find the room empty.
What the hell?
I noticed a servant walking past us with a tray of drinks and I stopped him. "Where is James?"
He looked nervously between my father and me. "I-...I don't know, sir."
"How the fuck do you not know?" I hissed as he flinched. I walked away from him and stormed through the halls looking for him. I walked down to the area where the ball was being held and pushed through the large crowd until I made it to where Ethan's mother was. "Where is James?"
She stopped her conversation with the woman next to her and looked up at me as her smile faltered. "He's with Ethan."
"Where?"
"In his room," she replied.
I ran my hand through my hair. "They're not in the room."
She looked at me worriedly and immediately stood up from her chair to look around the room. Her search proved useless as the sea of masked people obscured her vision.
I shook my head in anger and stormed out of the room through the balcony. On my way out I saw Queen with Sebastian, but I couldn't focus on that right now. With my mission in mind, I took a deep breath and continued through the grounds.
I walked through the garden and looked around quickly. I swear this would be the last time I leave him with such irresponsible people. I checked every place I thought he may have been with no luck, circling the nearby woods TWICE and still finding nothing. Shit.
On my way back into the palace to look again, I bumped into my father who was sitting with James and Ethan on one of the benches. He looked at me and gave me a smug smirk before tilting his head at them. "Found them."
I threw myself on a bench across the three of them and ran my hand through my hair. "Where were you guys?"
"We were in the library," James spoke up. "Look!" He passed me the book version of the cartoon we watched and I shook my head softly.
"Next time tell an adult you're leaving, okay?" I said. He nodded and his smile dropped a bit at my expression. I sighed and held the book in my hand. "Maybe you should show Ethan the show so we can all read it together after."
"Okay!" James smiled enthusiastically as he and Ethan looked at one another. He looked up at my father and grinned. "Do you want to watch it with us?"
My father glanced at me then back at them as he cleared his throat. "I- Uh...I don't like cartoons."
"It's funny," James insisted.
Lucifer looked at him for a moment and sighed. "Sure then."
James and Ethan hopped off the bench and Lucifer stood up. James took his hand and they took a step to leave the garden and me.
"Wait," I said. They all turned to me and I gestured for James and Ethan to come toward me. They both rushed in front of me and I looked at them intently. I looked down at the friendship bracelets on both of their hands and held my hand out. "Give me your bracelets."
They looked at one another and hesitantly removed them, placing them in my hand. I enclosed the bracelets within my palm and closed my eyes. I chanted a location spell into my hands and they watched in awe as black smoke emerged from my hands.
When I finished I held it back out for them and they looked at me reluctantly. "What did you do to it?" Ethan asked.
"If you guys get lost again, I'll be able to find you," I said.
James nodded and was the first to put it on. "Like G...umm, the thing on your phone."
"GPS?" Ethan asked.
"Yes, that!" James said.
Ethan took the bracelet from my hand and put it on. He eyed it for a few moments and turned back to me with a grin. "Thank you!"
"This still doesn't mean wander off. Always tell someone first," I warned. They both nodded and I brought my attention back to Lucifer who was looking at me suspiciously. "What?"
"Nothing."
The boys went back to his side and he awkwardly looked down at them. He looked uncomfortable, but it wasn't as if someone was forcing him to hang out with them.
"Aren't you going with Gen right now?" I asked, creating an out for him.
"Umm...I'll see her later," he said with a shrug.
I furrowed my brows at him and nodded. "You guys have fun."
"We'll be in my room!" James yelled over his shoulder as they pulled Lucifer back into the palace.
"Well that was adorable, wasn't it?"I looked to the side to see a masked man in a white suit approaching me. As he neared I immediately recognized the signature white hair and annoyingly smug smirk.
"Felix," I muttered. "What do you want?"
"Just saying hello to my brother," he said, his body rigid in his spot.
"Goodbye," I said as I stood up.
"Wait!" He said. I turned back to him in irritation and raised my brow. "What is it?"
"I have something for you," he said. I noticed then that his hand was behind his back and he was hiding something from my view.
"I don't want it," I said as I turned back around and proceeded to walk.
"I wouldn't walk away from me if I were you," he yelled.
I stopped walking but remained facing away from him. "And why is that?"
Felix remained quiet for the next few moments and I scoffed, continuing to walk until I was back in the palace. He was acting strange, but that wasn't my biggest focus right now. I had a breakup to fake.
I walked through the crowd to where I saw Queen earlier, but I didn't see her. I only saw Xavier with Cleo and Caspian laughing about something. They were wearing masks, but I only knew one couple that had shiny pink and blue hair.
"Hey," I said as I walked up to them. They look up at me and smiled. "Where is Queen?"
Before they could answer my question, my mother came next to me and looked up at me in surprise. "Hey, I didn't know you were coming!"
"Yeah, I changed my mind," I muttered.
"Good, I'm glad you showed up," she said warmly.
"Where's Queen?" I asked again.
"I think she's upstairs," Caspian said slowly.
With Sebastian?
That wasn't a part of the plan. We were supposed to have witnesses to the break-up. Why would she be alone with him upstairs? I should've waited until she came back down, but my legs moved to the stairs before I could control them. I felt a hand grab my arm gently and I looked behind me. I rolled my eyes as I looked at Lilith who was maskless as well.
"Looking for Queen?" She asked cheerfully.
"I am," I said.
"I know where she is," she teased. I wanted to get the fuck away from her, but for the sake of the plan and Queen not being where she was supposed to, maybe it was best to go with Lilith.
"Take me to her," I forced myself to say.
She smiled slyly at me and gracefully walked past me to the stairs. I followed her to the second floor and when we reached it she turned to me. "She's on the balcony."
Lilith almost looked happy to tell me this for some reason. She seemed to really want Queen and I separated. I sighed and made my way over to where she directed. The balcony door was open and I could hear people on the outside, but there was no talking.
I glanced behind me to see Lilith watching me with an eerie smile and I shook my head. Fueled by questions in my mind I stepped onto the balcony and the scene in front of me caused my chest to cave in.
Queen was with Sebastian, and his lips were on hers.
