Queen
It hurt me to hear him say that but it wasn't like I could blame him, he just threw my own words back in my face. I tried to conjure up the energy to be angry at Syn's reaction to this, but I couldn't. I would've been as mad if not more had it been that bitch Stella who popped up while he and I were having an intimate moment.
May the crazy heifer rest in distress.
My eyes rolled to the far back of my head just thinking about her before I focused my attention back on a fuming Syn. Although I understood his outburst, the way he was talking to me was completely unacceptable. "You're being mean, Syn," I said as calmly as I could, trying to control my tone to not alert Saint to anything.
Cain and Iris must've already sensed the immediate tension as they rose from the couch and headed in our direction. "Here, we'll watch him while you guys...figure stuff out," Iris said, outstretching her arms. I gave her an appreciative glance before passing her Saint and shaking my head at Syn. He remained quiet as they took him, his arms crossed and his eyes glued to me.
"There's someone named Aiden here to see you..." my father said slowly, eyeing the two of us carefully. We must've looked like we were about to kill each other with the way he cautiously stalked toward us. "Shall I let him in?"
I looked at Syn, trying to figure out the best solution to this. Not letting Aiden in would be fucked up, especially considering I hadn't answered a single phone call from him since he was in the "hospital". Granted I did have my suspicions about him, they weren't certain...I didn't even give him a chance to explain himself. For all I knew it was a misunderstanding and I was hurting a truly good person.
My other option was to let him in and let there be a chance that Syn went fully psycho on him. He was already on edge with his withdrawals and although he was nice to Aiden to his face I knew he hated his guts. A few weeks ago I knew he would've at least tried to control himself, but the Syn standing in front of me right now? He was unpredictable.
"No," I replied to my father. "Tell him I'll be right outside." My father nodded, quickly turning on his heel, and strode to the door. I was sure he was thankful to be away from us even if it were a few seconds.
Syn scoffed. "Are you serious?"
"What do you want from me, Syn?!" I snapped. "I'm not letting him in the fucking house I'm just going to let him know I'm okay and that he can go. I've already told him I want to be with you, what else can I do?!"
He stayed silent for a moment, his serious expression remaining as his eyes searched mine. After a few moments, he clicked his tongue and nodded. "You know what, I am sorry, okay? I shouldn't have raised my voice," He said. "I just...despise this man and knowing that he's fucked you and is in fucking love with you...it makes me sick to my stomach. You want to call me jealous or possessive? I am, absolutely. I'm not willing to lose you, but I am also not willing to stand by and be okay with the two of you being friends. I can't do that."
"Don't make this a choosing thing, Syn-"
"It's not a choosing anything. This isn't an ultimatum. I'm letting you know what my boundaries are and he, is a fucking hard limit for me," he expressed passionately before blowing out a frustrated breath.
I stood in front of him, momentarily flabbergasted by the words that spilled out of his mouth. He had just gone from borderline going off on me...to taking a step back and apologizing? I was shocked. Instead of continuing to push my buttons and start a fight like usual, he told me exactly how he felt...
And for the first time, I didn't know how to respond.
He let out a huff of laughter and shook his head. "You have nothing to say to that?"
"I-it's not that," I stuttered. "I'm just kind of shocked..."
"This shit isn't new Queen, I've been telling you this."
He may have been, but this felt different. He was clearly telling me how he felt. His words weren't clouded by any threats, anger, or yelling that always occurred between us. It was strange seeing him be this expressive, but then again this felt like one of those make-it-or-break-it moments.
I could say/do the wrong thing and he'd never be so candid with me again...or I could take his feelings seriously and completely cut off Aiden.
I hardly thought for a second before my legs sprung to action and I headed toward the front door, not uttering a word to Syn. I was thankful when I made it to the foyer and Syn hadn't chased after me or tried to stop me.
I needed to do this alone.
As I got closer to the door, I saw my father towering over Aiden, casting an intimidating stare at him as he rubbed his neck awkwardly. When he saw me, relief filled his features and a large smile replaced his distressed expression.
"Hey," he said, waving a hand.
"Hi." I walked toward the door nervously and wrapped my arms around myself. My dad remained standing next to me and Aiden looked awkwardly between the both of us. "Dad?" I said. "Would you mind..."
"Oh!" He said, his serious face splitting into a grin. "Sure." He squeezed my shoulder before turning and walking deeper into the house and I took a step out onto the porch, closing the front door behind me. Aiden took a surprised step back and raised a brow when I didn't invite him in.
"Hey," he said. "I was hoping to see Saint. I got him a birthday gift, I know I'm a few days late. A lot has been going on-"
"We need to talk, Aiden."
"Oh?" He frowned. "What about?"
"I can't keep seeing you," I said in a soft-spoken voice, trying my hardest not to sound rude. I knew that I needed to let him go, but I didn't necessarily want to hurt him. He was a good person.
"What?" His face fell. I opened my mouth to respond but he spoke up before I could say anything. "I know I overstepped at the hospital, okay? And I know I'm not the man you want to be with...but I'd still like to be friends," he said.
"I can't-"
"Queen," he interrupted. "Yes, you can. So what's going on? Is he making you do this?"
"No one is making me do anything."
"No, it has to be your ex," he retorted. "He's in there, isn't he? I bet he's the one making you do all of this shit!"
"No, no, no. Stop it!" I lashed out. "I keep telling you it has nothing to do with anyone other than you and I."
"That's a fucking lie and you know it." He pointed at me. "Before he came into the picture you and I were about to make things official-"
I closed my eyes, shaking my head. "No, no we weren't, Aiden."
"You met my parents!" He snapped.
"And they're lovely," I said quickly, guilt eating me from the inside out.
"No." He shook his head. "You're being cruel, this isn't you."
Little did he know.
"I'm sorry," I said.
"Queen." He looked directly into my eyes, his face a mere few inches away and I took a step back. "Tell me what's going on, I can help."
"I don't need your help, Aiden. I appreciate everything you've done for me. You're an amazing person and I wish you nothing but-"
He stood up straight, tugging on his light blue denim jacket. "No, I want to speak to him right now. Man to man. Tell him to get out here now." I cringed at the "man-to-man" statement and groaned inwardly. "Call him out here, now."
I was shocked by his ordering me around and laughed to myself. I was the Queen of Hell and he was commanding me to call Syn so they could speak "man to man". I had a fucking mouth and everything that came out of it was exactly what I meant. There were no ifs, and, or buts about it.
"Who are you talking to?" I spoke, enunciating every syllable.
"Let me speak to him." He stepped passed me to the door but before he could touch the doorknob, the door opened and Syn walked out, a bag of peanuts in his left hand.
"I heard you were looking for me?" Syn asked calmly, pouring a few peanuts into his hand and shaking them before popping them into his mouth. "What do you want?"
"I just wanted to get some clarification," Aiden cleared his throat.
"What on?"
"I believe you have something to do with Queen no longer wanting to be my friend. I care about her and I can't understand why- if you truly love her, you wouldn't want me in her life."
"I did have something to do with it," Syn said simply before holding out the bag of nuts for him. "Want some?"
"No, I'm allergic."
"One wouldn't hurt." Syn pushed. "Have one...
...I insist."
