I rolled my eyes as I stepped out of the car and slammed the door. I planned to be here a lot earlier, but my phone had managed to direct me towards the busiest roads. I was sure Queen had arrived here a lot earlier than I did, I just hoped she was still here.
I walked to the bouncer in the front of the line and handed him a wad of cash before letting myself into the club.
As always and like most clubs, it reeked of smoke and sweaty bodies. This one seemed more unbearable than most nightclubs I'd been to considering it was full of humans. It was a positive and negative thing though. The negative being I'd want to kill everyone I passed, but a positive was that I'd be able to easily detect Queen.
Her blood was obviously different than human blood. Theirs smelled like some sort of savory food or even meat, whereas Queen's was fruitier. The smell had a hidden allure, almost like a poison, but nonetheless, it was hers...so I adored it.
I walked down the steps into my club and was met with a low wall that split off into two directions. One that went toward the bar, and the other to the dance floor. The dark floor had bright lights for guidance and again I was reminded why humans were prey. They needed something as minuscule as light to be able to walk.
My mind was about to go into another rant about the species until I remembered a time years ago where I fell for a girl I believed to be human. Thinking less of them right now would only make me a hypocrite.
I went in the direction of the bar and sat on the stool before ordering a drink. "Thanks," I said lowly as the bartender passed me the drink, her eyes lingering on me. I swiveled on the chair and a distinct and familiar smell wafted my senses. I downed the drink quickly before following it down the long corridor to the dance floor.
I groaned in annoyance when I bumped into bodies on the dance floor, but I maneuvered through them. I was so busy moving past everyone that I didn't notice Queen directly in front of me. Her scent caught me off guard, but a slow smile spread across my face at it. I hadn't been this close to her in years, but now, if I reached out...we'd be skin to skin.
Her hips swayed to the music as she danced, and I looked around. Plenty of eyes were on her, but I sent glares their way, acting as a safety blanket around Queen. Iris was across me, but she seemed lost in her own world. Even if she were to look at me wouldn't be able to make out my face in the dark crowd. The only thing providing any light was the dancing LED lights.
I kept a small distance between us as she danced, making sure no one else was coming near her, but being sure I wasn't either. That of course was short-lived as Queen stepped back and bumped into my front. She must've not noticed, or she didn't care enough to move, but she began slowly grinding against me to the music.
With no room between us, I could smell the alcohol running through her bloodstream and my protectiveness only grew. I ignored the anger rising in me that was realizing she was dancing on a stranger—me, and gently trailed my hands along her body.
I slowly moved away from her and disappeared into the crowd of bodies when her friends returned. I let out a breath now that we had some distance between us and I walked back to the bar. I ordered a drink before leaning over the railing above the dance floor. I kept an eye on her to make sure nobody was bothering her and everything seemed fine for the most part. The only questionable problem was a man bothering Iris, but she maintained herself well.
After a few moments, she and her friends began walking back up the corridor that led to where I was and I had my back to them. "I need a drink!" One of the girls yelled excitedly.
"No," a deep voice said. "We need to go home, babe." They had a light conversation as they walked to a sectional a few meters away from me. They seemed to do their own thing and I drank in boredom until I heard the voice I loved.
"Hey," Queen said to Iris.
"Hey, are you having fun?"
"Yeah, I need to pee though." I glanced to the side to see Queen lean off of Iris and attempt to stand on her own.
"Do you want me to come with you?"
"No, it's okay. I can take care of myself." That's stupid, Princess. I cursed under my breath at her carelessness and shook my head. "I'll be right back in like one minute."
"Okay, make sure your phone is on you." I took in a deep breath and closed my eyes. Iris needed to stay with her or stop her before something happened to her. That something being me.
"It is," Queen replied in a cheery tone before walking away from her. She rushed past me and the bar down the corridor and I sighed. I set my glass down at the bar counter and followed behind her. I could make her out clearly in the corridor, but once we reached the dance floor yet again, the difficulty came in.
Where Queen was able to easily move through with little difficulty, I had to push through people. The journey to her was a bumpy one, but over the crowd of heads, I could see her. Just as she was making it out of the crowd, someone ran directly in front of her, bumping her into another group of people.
I tripped the person that bumped into her and rushed towards Queen who was being pushed by someone else. She was about to crash down onto the marble floor, but I wrapped my arm around her waist and held her against me. Fury flowed through me at the people that I'd have to physically punish for pushing her, and as the seconds passed, I was fighting to hold on to the anger as I held Queen.
"You should be a lot more careful, Princess." I said through gritted teeth. Her body froze at my voice and I closed my eyes as my head rested on top of her hair. "Don't run...please."
I could hear her heart banging against her chest, but she relaxed into my hold. I loosened my arm that was firmly around her and I waited for her to try to leave. To my surprise, she slowly turned around, her eyes firmly on my chest.
"What are you doing here?" She whispered, a tear falling down her cheek.
"Do you want the full truth or half of it?"
She looked up into my eyes and gave me a confused look as she shook her head. "Syn..." I wanted to speak with her, but the club music roaring through the building was starting to annoying me. Wanting to be somewhere quiet with her, I took her hand into mine and pulled her back through the crowd to the entrance.
I led her to the corridor, but before we could leave, Queens' friends stood in front of us. "It's you!" The Xoe girl said as she glared up at me. She reached for Queen's hand and moved her towards her and I rolled my eyes.
"Let her go," I warned her.
"You let her go!" She snapped. "First you stalk her and now she's drunk and you're taking her somewhere?! What the hell is wrong with you?"
"Wait," Queen whispered faintly as she closed her eyes.
"I know you think you're looking out for her, but this is not what you think it is."
"Well, I think you're a creep and I'm not stepping aside unless Queen tells me it's okay." She crossed her arms and annoyance worked its way up my body, making my jaw tick. Perhaps I would've liked the girl under different circumstances, but at this very second, she was the only thing standing between me and what I wanted.
"What's going on here?" Abel's voice boomed from behind Xoe. She quickly explained to him what was happening and he sighed as he took his hand into hers. She seemed shocked by the action, but he smiled at her and nodded at me. "Take care of her."
Xoe looked between us, dumbfounded. "What the actual..."
"I'll explain everything," Abel assured her as he ushered her to the side. I let out a relieved breath that I didn't have to do anything drastic, and walked out of the club.
Queen's steps slowed we made it outside, and I looked back at her. "I don't feel good," she whispered. I slowed down my pace and led her to a bright fountain in front of the club.
"Sit here." I guided her to the white marble surrounding the fountain and she jumped slightly to take a seat. I sat down beside her carefully and leaned my arms on my legs as I looked to my side at her. Her eyes were focused on her lap as she took deep breaths, but after a few moments she stood up on wobbly legs. "Fuck," she slurred.
I moved to stand up with her, thinking she was ready to go, but she grabbed my collar and pushed me back down, her inebriation momentarily replaced with determination. Our faces were inches apart as she balled up my shirt into her fists and I looked up into her eyes. "Hey..." I whispered.
Her hazy eyes dropped down to my lips as she tilted her head and I waited for her to say something in anticipation. I expected her to say almost anything, but what came out of her mouth was far from what I thought it would be.
"Do you taste the same?" She whispered, her fruity breath hitting my lips. I swallowed a lump in my throat and looked back into her eyes.
"You're drunk—" Her lips connected with mine forcefully and I froze momentarily. Her mouth moved against mine, tempting me into what felt like a forbidden waterfall, and like always...
I fell into her waters.
