Sara Tendulkar was confused.

The root cause of her confusion was blissfully unaware of it.

There he was, creating a new mess that came with umpteen heart flutters.

She squinted her eyes to see him peel oranges and slice down fruits that she liked.

Her brows furrowed in confusion.

" Shubman? What're you doing?"

He looked up, genuine innocence morphed on his face as he looked down at the fruits.

" Uh...peeling oranges? You like them, right?"

" How do you...remember? I told you that like...five years ago."

He shrugged in response.

" Y'know....Baba peels oranges and pomegranates for Mumma, he cuts fruits for her, especially passion fruit, and although his hands get messy, and he hates that, he still does it nonetheless!"

" That's sweet."

" It is!" She cupped her own cheek with a fond sigh.
" Mumma and Baba have gone through quite a lot of things in all these years too, but each time I look at them, I realised, despite it all, they stayed with each other through thick and thin. They never left each other's side at the biggest of problems, let alone the slightest inconvenience. They always found a way out. If I do ever fall in love, I want it to be like my parents, not exactly similar, but a love like theirs. Someone who'd willingly do the smallest of things for me, someone..who'd peel oranges for me!"

His lips curved upward in a bemused smile.
" That's your love-language? Peeling oranges and cutting fruits?"

" It's cute!"

Snapping out of her reverie, she sat across him at the kitchen counter.

" How do you still remember so well?"

" I never forgot." He gently pushed forward the plate full of orange slices.

Her heart skipped a beat as he slid across a bar of chocolate, a glass of water and a hot-water bag.

She'd been on her periods, and he wasn't going to tell her he spoke to her best-friends and planned everything out.

But she figured it out nonetheless.

What was up with him?

Why was he doing it?

He didn't have to be so considerate, so sweet.

He could just be the annoying idiot she could easily tolerate.

Why did he have to be an annoyingly endearing, adorable gentleman?

" Aren't you going to have it?" He asked, arching a brow and she was quick to shift her gaze back to the plate.

Exasperation gnawed at her.

And it made her want to cry.

The emotional turmoil and the play of feelings irked her.

Yet, she chose to stay calm.

" Shubman..."

He hummed in response as he washed his hands and wiped them to the napkin that hung on the hook, turning back to her.

" Why did you run away with me out of all people?"

Shubman stared at her, rendered speechless at the question as she continued.

" I mean, you'd had many people willing to help you out if you wanted to run away. Uncle and Aunty weren't happy with the wedding either, it's pretty understandable why of-course, so you running away was more of a relief for them. There was Ishan, Abhay, KP, so many of your friends and family members who were willing to do anything for the wedding to not take place at all. Then...why me? I should've been your last option, shouldn't I?"

" I..." Shubman was at a loss of words.

He'd never thought of it that way.

Neither had he thought of her as an option either.

Option?

Her?

She'd never been an option ever.

She had to simply call him up when she was in trouble, one phone call or a mere text and he'd be there for her if in town.

Wasn't that what she did too?

She was always there when he needed, she was there even when he never asked her to be.

" I don't know." He murmured honestly.
" I really don't know. You've....never been an option for me, Sara. More...of a priority. But...an option? Never."

Her heart skipped a beat at the confession.

" That's not the answer I'm looking for." She sighed.

" But wouldn't you rather get an honest answer than an satisfactory one?"

" It's not...a dissatisfactory answer. Just...not the one I'm looking for. I...I can't explain it. It's just...you're acting weird."

" Weird?"

" You remember the smallest of details about me that might as well be least important, you've been acting strangely considerate, you've been keeping everything about me in mind before doing anything. Why?"

" Is it...a bad thing?" Innocent confusion gnawed at him, wondering what made her so upset about this.
" I mean...I thought it's a good thing to do...right? I don't understand Sara. What's bothering you?"

You are!

" Sara?" His voice softened and she sighed with a shake of her head.

" Nothing. I'm just overthinking it all, y'know....periods and...stress? That's all."

Shubman's brows knit together, clearly, he did not buy the reason, but nonetheless let it slide.

He placed his hand on hers, gently interwining their fingers and her heart fluttered.

" Well...don't stress over whatever you are then. I'm sure it will get better eventually. It has to. So calm down yeah?"

She forced an imperceptible nod, barely comprehending his words.

Because...it wasn't really overthinking, was it?
