"Is it me, or are you looking fatter?" Jamal teased, causing the person at the other end of the laptop to burst out laughter, throwing his head back over the headrest of his chair.

"What do you expect when my wife is taking care of me?" He retorted back, the pride and satisfaction he felt was literally dripping from his tone. "Did I tell you she was the one that planned this vacation? Omo, marriage is sweet o!" He drawled, fanning himself dramatically and Jamal laughed, shaking his head.

"Faizal, you make marriage seem so easy." Jamal said and Faizal sat up immediately on hearing that.

"Guy, I've been married four years now and I am not complaining. Sure, there are hard times but if you get married to the right person , the good times will always outweigh the bad times. That is why you, my friend, need to put a ring on that finger soon." Faizal stated matter-of-factly, trying to hint Jamal on proposing to his girl soon. Jamal, on the other hand, looked unsure

"I'm going to. I just don't know if I'm ready for all of that now." He said, leaning back against his chair and folding his hand across his chest. Faizal peered at his former patient through his thick rimmed glasses.

"If you keep saying that, you might never be ready." He pointed out and Jamal sighed. "Is Elyon hinting anything yet?" Faizal asked and Jamal shook his head.

"Not exactly. I might probably be clueless but I'm looking for signs, trust me. But I haven't seen her hint anything on marriage. But don't worry, I have it all figured out." Jamal told Faizal who inturn eyed him skeptically, eliciting a loud laugh from the former.

Faizal looking out for Jamal wasn't a new thing. They did go a long way, their relationship developing from a therapist-patient relationship to a solid friendship for almost fifteen years. They were tight like that, even with the massive age difference. Jamal has always felt in-depted to Faizal for helping him through a lot of tough times. If not for Faizal's last push for him to seek closure, he probably wouldn't have figured things out with his cousin.

"How is Elyon by the way?" Faizal asked, cutting into Jamal's thoughts.m and Jamal's lips stretched into an automatic grin of pride as he thought of his girlfriend.

"She's alright. She's actually in the kitchen right now. We are having this get together dinner with the guys so, she's putting things together. I should be helping her sef." Jamal responded, chuckling afterwards and Faizal joined him.

"You really should. Try to show her that you are a husband material one million yards." He teased and Jamal laughed. "Is he coming?" Faizal asked, causing Jamal's laugh to subside.

"I highly doubt it." Jamal answered, his mood suddenly dampened. "He's been rather aloof this week, but we all understand." He added and Faizal hummed, nodding his head.

"I'm sure Elyon might have figured it out but let me just tell you now. He has not been coming for his therapy." Jamal frowned at that revelation. "At first, I thought he was just busy, you know, with his tight schedule and all but it's been reoccurring for seven months now and his club isn't even playing this season." Faizal explained, the weight of what he was saying generating a deep sigh from Jamal.

"I don't know what to say." Was all he could mutter.

"You should talk to your cousin, Jamal. He needs this." Faizal stated matter-of-factly and Jamal nodded, promising to talk to Khalil.

They were going to continue speaking when the annoyingly loud doorbell started to ring.

"Hold on I'm coming!" Jamal yelled, looking back at Faizal on the screen. "Hey, I need to go. Seems like the guys have started coming." His statement was punctuated with another ringing of the door bell. Faizal chuckled, shaking his head.

"I can bet million dollars that it's Mateo." He said and Jamal laughed, affirming that bet. They said their good byes before Jamal shut his laptop and walked out of his study. He was had just gotten to the living room when the door bell went off again.

"I said I'm coming! Do you want to burst our eardrums?!" Jamal yelled in irritation, only for whoever was at the door to press the loud door bell again purposely to annoy Jamal, who inturn cringed and then groaned. Elyon porked her head out of the kitchen, a deep frown playing on her face.

"If that's Mateo, please slap his head for me." She told him, who responded with an affirmative thumbs up. Jamal did a speed walk to the door, opened it to see Mateo as Elyon had predicated, standing right there with a grin stretched across his lips, his hand jammed into his pocket. Jamal sighed, shaking his head.

"Mateo, you obviously heard me say I was coming. You honestly did not have to press the door bell, I was close by for God's sake." He stated, the mild frustration in his voice evident. Mateo in turn just smirked and shrugged.

"I know. I just wanted to annoy you." He taunted and Jamal rolled his eyes, holding the door wider for Mateo to come in but he stopped when his eyes caught something.

"What the hell did you do to your hair! When Elyon told me you cut it off, I didn't think it was this low!" He exclaimed in complete shock, staring at Mateo's almost bald head. The latter just smiled and shrugged again, running his fingers through his now buzz cut.

"You like?"

"I hate!" Jamal retorted, just as Skye came into the scenery, carrying a basket filled with goodies.

"That makes two of us." She said, her face devoid of any expression as she brushed past her boyfriend, making sure to knock her shoulder into his and made her way to where her brother stood, kissing both his cheeks before walking inside the house without saying anything more. Jamal looked back at an amused Mateo

"She's not talking to you." Jamal stated the obvious and Mateo chuckled, shaking his head.

"For two weeks now." Mateo affirmed and Jamal laughed, stepping aside to let him in.

"But why would you cut your hair!" He queried. "That thing was a chick magnet." Mateo looked at him with corked brows.

"Why would I need a chick magnet when I already have a chick. You want me to go back to my Casanova days, hmmmn?" He inquired, and even though the tease in his tone was evident, Jamal couldn't help but glare at his friend.

"You wouldn't dare." He said through gritted teeth.

"Exactly. I already have you to contend with. I don't want to have to face your dad as well." Mateo stated and Jamal murmured something like wise choice. They both entered the house fully, hearing the women talk and giggle non stop from the kitchen, putting things in place for the get together.

"I still can't believe Mateo decided to cut his hair without consulting me." Skye wailed for the umpteenth time to Elyon, who just chuckled and said nothing.

"It's not funny o." Skye snapped at her when she laughed and Elyon rose her hands in mock surrender. "I'm never going to speak to him again." She mumbled to herself.

When Skye had seen Mateo's hair two weeks before, she had gone bizarre, screaming and throwing a fit. Then she locked herself in her room for days, calling Elyon and crying to her that Mateo had broken her heart and she didn't want to see his ugly ass head again for the rest of her life.

"It's actually not that bad though. He's a grown man, the curls had to go." Elyon stated shrewdly and Skye pouted.

"I loved those curls." She whined and Elyon chuckled again, shaking her head at her friend's overdramatic-ness. They continued putting things in other, only stopping when they heard the front door opened. Somadina and Vanessa were around.

Khalil was the only one that wasn't there and Elyon wasn't sure he was going to make it. At least, with the way he spoke over the phone.

"Vanessa!" Skye shrieked, jerking Elyon out of her reverie. She looked to see Vanessa walk into the kitchen, Skye rushing over the hug her.

"Biko, don't crush me." Vanessa groaned, stiffing her body when Skye hugged her and Elyon laughed. Vanessa will never change. Skye pulled away with a mock frown, eyeing Vanessa.

"Someone can't hug you again abi?"

"Wo! I am tired. Soma picked me straight from work, I haven't eaten anything all day. Is food ready?" She asked, peering over the pot of fried rice on the gas cooker.

"Don't worry, it's ready. We'll soon eat now, I just want us to wait a bit for Khalil. He should be here soon." Elyon chirped, trying to be optimistic about Khalil coming. Skye on the other hand didn't think Khalil would come.

"I don't think he'll show up. If you haven't noticed, he's been very aloof these days and you know why." Skye said and Elyon sighed.

That weekend was Tolani's seven year death anniversary. Every year like this, Khalil would always want to be alone and even though they respected his decision, the guys were still worried about him.

"Let me go check the barbeque." Elyon mumbled, walking out the back door that led to the backyard where the grill was located. Jamal was already there, turning the chicken to the other side. He looked up when he heard her coming.

"Hey." He cooed, drawing her in when he got to her and pressed a kiss to the side of her head. Elyon tried to muster a smile but it was forced, and Jamal noticed. "What's wrong?"

"Khalil." She said and Jamal hummed, nodding in understanding. "I'm worried about him." She added and Jamal sighed.

"We know better than to bother him at a time like this. He needs his space..."

"I know, but..." Elyon trailed off, sighing. "Is he even seeing Faizal like he is supposed to? Because it seems like he has been missing his appointments. I have to keep rescheduling and rescheduling because he just comes up with excuses not to make it to therapy. It's not good for him. How do you expect me not to be worried. I am wor..." She kept rambling while Jamal just leaned against the grin and stared at her in amusement.

"Okay, superwoman. Slow down." He stopped her from talking any further when it seemed like she wouldn't stop working herself up. His hands dropped to either sides of her arm, pulling her closer to him with his fingers caressing her skin through her sweats. Elyon sighed, looking at Jamal with concerned eyes.

"I'm worried about him." She muttered.

"I know. I am worried too, he is my cousin. But for this week, just this week, let's give him space. You know how sensitive he gets this time of the year." Jamal stated, trying to make her understand.

"What if he harms himself?"

"Ahh, Maami." A deep, brooding voice came from behind and the duo turned to see the subject of their discussion swaggering towards them in his usual strides. "You give me little credit." He added, smirking.

"Khalil!" Elyon screamed, moving away from her boyfriend to meet with Khalil. She threw herself against him and the latter caught her small frame before she could fall the both of them down, laughing heartily. Jamal on the other hand just watched them, a grin spread across his lips.

"Hey Maami." He whispered, pressing a dainty kiss to her forehead before he finally dropped her. Elyon's smile was wide, obviously happy to see Khalil.

"You didn't pick my call this morning." She queried and he chuckled.

"Practice." He explained. Though Elyon knew it was a lie, she didn't push it.

"I didn't think you'd show up." Jamal called to Khalil, walking towards them. "I'm glad to have you here with us." He added, both of them trading a bro hug.

"I wasn't going to come." Khalil said with a shrug, a smirk playing on his lips. "But I really couldn't miss Somadina embarrassing himself in front of Vanessa." It wasn't until he finished talking that he realized he had fumbled. Big time.

"Oh shit! Khalil!" Jamal exclaimed, flashing Khalil a glare while Elyon looked between the two men with a confused expression.

"Why would Somadina embarrass himself in front of Nessa?" She asked, the curious part of her perking more than usual. The men exchanged a look and Khalil shrugged.

"Just tell her. She will keep the secret till it time." He said and Jamal sighed, causing Elyon to turn to him with a questioning gaze. Then he dropped the bomb.

"Soma is going to propose after dinner." Elyon's eyes widened like saucers.

"What!"

*****

"Why do I feel like the guys are up to something?" Nessa asked, dropping the tray of uses plates into the dish washer. They had just finished a very eventful dinner and the women decided to clear the table and do the dishes before they start movie night.

"Are they not always up to something?" Skye inquired, washing some plates and bowls that couldn't fit into the dishwasher.

"Yeah, but tonight is different. It's like they are planning something. Maybe a coup." Nessa elaborated

Elyon gulped inaudibly on hearing her friend's statement, deciding it was best to keep her mouth shut. She busied herself with cleaning up the place, even though all she wanted to do was burst out and tell her friend that she was getting proposed to that night. Telling her a secret as huge as that was so much pressure, it was taking her so much not to blurt it out.

"Elyon, you are have been smiling to yourself all night and you are unusually quiet." Skye mentioned, causing Elyon to freeze on the spot. Regaining her composure, she flashed her friends a smile and shrugged.

"I just have a lot on my mind, that's all." She told them. It wasn't totally a lie anyway.

Carrying the weight of that kind of secret on her shoulder was just doing too much. She really wanted to just shout it over the roof top. She didn't know how to contain her excitement. Vanessa eyed her skeptically, opening her mouth to say something but Jamal walked in, all attention going to him.

"Elyon..." Was all he said before nodding at the ladies and walking out of the kitchen. Skye and Vanessa were confused while Elyon wouldn't stop grinning.

"That was so sketchy. Something is definitely up and Elyon knows about it." Vanessa frowned, looking at a grinning Elyon quizzically.

"Okay, fine." Elyon gave up, acting like she was about to tell them the big secret. "I know something that y'all don't. But, you have to close your eyes to find out." She said.

"Me?" Skye pointed to herself but Elyon shook her head and pointed to Vanessa, who still looked confused as hell.

"I should close my eyes?" She asked incredulously and Elyon nodded. Nessa groaned but obliged, closing her eyes. Elyon quickly went behind her and began to lead her, motioning for a confused Skye to help and together, they led her to the living room...where the men were waiting for them.

Skye gasped when she looked at the scenery before them, perking Vanessa's curiosity.

"Can I open my eyes now?" She asked. Elyon looked at the men who nodded, giving her a go ahead.

"You can." Elyon told Vanessa, who opened her eyes.

"Blood of Jesus!" She screamed, her eyes widening as she took to the scene in front of her. Everyone bursted into laughter, especially Somadina that was on one knee with a small jewelry box stretched out in his hand at Vanessa.

"Nessa ..." Somadina started but Vanessa's shriek interrupted him.

"What the fuck are you doing kneeling on the floor!" She exclaimed, gesturing to his position on the floor and Soma let out a nervous laugh. The others were just having a filled day, enjoying themselves as they watched one of their friends almost having a nervous break down while trying to propose to another one of their friends. Mateo made sure he was recording every single thing on his Phone.

"I know you hate grand gestures like this." Soma said and Vanessa scoffed in return, folding her hand across her chest.

"Yet you are still doing it." She retorted.

"You know I have to. I'm willing to take any sort of risk at this point but I just need to do this with you." Somadina said, not leaving his position on the floor and his eyes not leaving hers for one second. Elyon couldn't help but notice that Vanessa's eyes were getting glassy, as much as she tried to hide it.

"You are a fool. Shey you know." Vanessa mumbled, though loud enough for the rest of them to hear and for all of them to chuckle to, even Somadina.

"I know, Nessa. But I'm your fool." He answered and Elyon's heart swelled as she watched her friends. "And this fool loves you so much." Soma added. The men began to hail their friend, hyping him up. Skye couldn't help but make a sound of awe just like Elyon couldn't bring herself to stop staring at the duo, telling the men to lower their voices.

"This fool has been in love with you for as long as he can remember and he will always love you forever, even till eternity." He continued and Vanessa sniffed, bringing her hand to her face and that was when Elyon realized that she was crying.

Vanessa was crying!

"You are so terrible at grand gestures." She told him, a small smile spreading across her lips and sniffed again. Somadina laughed and nodded, now at ease to express his feelings.

"I know right! But I just need you to know how important you are to me, Vanessa Oghenetega Lawanson. How much I love you and how much I cherish all the years we've had together. I don't take anything for granted, Nessa. I love you, every bit of you, every part of you. Your strength and flaws.-

I love the way you boss me around a lot on the outside and I love the way you are so sensitive to me on the inside. You are a bundle of perfection, Nessa and there is no adjective on earth that I can use to qualify how much I love you, how much I want you. All I know is that I was to spend the rest of my life with you, Vanessa." Soma said softly, his eyes unwavering from her teary ones, his words leaving every single one of them transfixed.

They never knew their friend was so much of an hopeless romantic.

Even Nessa, who was now weeping like a baby.

"Oh God, you are making me cry Soma. I'm going to kill you!" She cried out and everyone laughed again, including Soma.

"You can. But you have to marry me first." He wasn't asking, he was telling. Everyone stood still, waiting for Vanessa's response.

"Just put the damn ring on my finger, you big head!" She screamed at him, the tears falling non stop from her eyes like a torrent. Everyone screamed in excitement at Vanessa's indirect scream of "Yes, I'll marry you".

Somadina laughed, slipping the princess cut ring into her finger, getting up on his feet and gathering his now fiancee into his arms as she kept crying, burying her face into his chest and the other kept shouting, cheering in excitement and dancing around the newly, the first engaged couple in the group.

"I hate you so much." Vanessa whispered to Somadina who chuckled in response like he has been doing most of the night. He pulled slightly away from her, cupping her face in his hands and used his thumb to clean her tears.

"I know, baby." He whispered back and she smiled, leaning in to press her lips against his. Somadina responded immediately, parting his lips for her to deepen the kiss, the vague cheers of their friends only heard in the background.

Elyon watched the duo, her lips stretched in an automatic grin. She didn't know when Jamal came behind her untile she felt his hands wrap around her middle, pulling her back to flush against his chest. He buried his face in her neck and kissed her spot daintily and she hummed in satisfaction, her eyes fluttering close.

"Everyone is happy." She whispered.

"We have reasons to be happy." Jamal replied, pressing another kiss into the hallow of her neck. Elyon forced her eyes open to look at her friends again. They were all happy, even Skye that claimed she wasn't talking to Mateo was suddenly all over her boyfriend. Everyone seemed perfect.

Everyone except Khalil.

Even though he tried to busy himself with his phone, he looked so out of place. His expression said it all.

Elyon's heart went out to him. She knew she would never stopped worrying about him.

So when Khalil looked up, causing their eyes meeting and he flashed her a short yet genuine smile, Elyon smiled right back just as she prayed so desperately in her heart that he would find the happiness he so much deserved.

No one deserved Happiness like Khalil.

THE ACTUAL END.
