Chapter 16

I'm sorry for not giving this update earlier. I was extremely busy and I just couldn't shuffle between the two. If not for Rihanna_Adedeji that decided to torment me in my dream last night, maybe I wouldn't have updated like that 🤣🤣🙅🏽🙅🏽

It's like I'll start sleeping with bible from now on.

Seems like a lot of people love Khalil's POV 😏. Let's see if we'll have more of him.

↭JAMAL↭

It was 12:00pm in the afternoon and every one was present at the indoor swimming pool. We were kicking off the Sports events with swimming which was only for the females but everyone was present to cheer for their school. Crescent High had creamed us again early this morning at the Oratory Test with Kunmi emerging as the winner, few points higher than Skye who had represented our school.

Things were not looking really good for Limelight Academy because one trophy was lost now.

And things were not looking good for me as Elyon hasn't spoken to me since yesterday. Not to talk of throwing a glance to my side.

It was pure torture.

And I deserved it because I messed up bad.

"Welcome to the Sport Events of The Olympia," The sport commentator's voice jerked me out of my mind trip and I looked up from where I was seated on the bleachers with the rest of my school mates.

"We are kicking off with the Swimming events, strictly for the females. Every school should get ready with their contender." He instructed and at that moment, I heard my name being called and I looked to a direction. It was Mateo.

"What's up?" I asked him and he beckoned to me to come. I walked down the bleachers and towards him.

"Skye might need more moral support. She's scared." He told me, his voice laced with concern and I frowned. Skye is never scared of a challenge, let alone swimming. What's wrong now?

"Where is she?" I asked eagerly and Mateo led the way. I saw school coaches with their contenders.

I saw the female coach of Crescent High beside Sophia Williams, her friends surrounding her. Sophia was clad in swimming trunk that did absolutely nothing to hide her curves. I could also sight more than half of the male population staring at her, including Khalil who wasn't subtle at all. My mind went back to what had happened yesterday and I felt my blood boil with anger for the fucker.

I was still very much upset with him. He was the main cause of the rift between Elyon and I. If only he had kept his stupid mouth shut.

You are the reason Elyon isn't talking to you. My subconscious chided me.

"Hey, breath. It's okay baby." I heard Mateo's voice and that's when I realized we had gotten to where Skye was. I looked around and saw that we were in the dressing room. Somadina and Vanessa were here too, clad in the school track suit. I turned my head and my eyes met hers.

Elyon.

She was staring at me, no expression whatsoever on her face. It made me feel uneasy.

It's called guilt. Get used to it. My subconscious mocked me.

I quickly averted my gaze from hers and looked at Mateo who was crouched in front of Skye. She was breathing rapidly. I quickly took to his position, crouching in front of my sister.

"Hey, are you okay?" I asked her and she nodded, even though she was clearly nervous about the competition that was going to start any minute.

"When did this start?" I asked randomly, my hand coming to brush my sister's hair that had fallen to the back.

"She just started getting nervous when we got here." It was Elyon that spoke this time and I rose my head to look at her on instinct. She was looking at me too. I could detect a tad bit of emotion in her features. Seemed like she was trying so hard to keep it at bay.

That's a good sign, right?

"She was fine in the room." Vanessa spoke up and I looked away from Elyon, my heart racing. "She and Sophia were even making mouth about how they would cream each other." She added.

"She was also okay at break fast." Mateo chipped, his hand resting on Skye's knee. "Maybe it's just pregame jitters." He said and I nodded, looking back at my sister who hasn't spoken.

"I'm nervous." She admitted and I nodded.

"It's okay to be nervous." I told her. "You are good at this, you shouldn't feel otherwise. You are going to cream their asses." I assured her.

"Sophia is the best at this. I looked at all her videos after breakfast. She's good." Skye stated and I sighed. That's why she has been feeling nervous.

"It doesn't matter if she's the best because you are better than the best." I smirked and she scoffed at me.

"That's God. He is always better than the Best." She teased and everyone chuckled.

"You know what I mean sha. You'll be okay." I told her and she nodded.

"Plus, the whole school is all depending on you sha." Somadina chipped and everyone looked at him a glare. "No pressure." He added and I hissed.

"Soma, that didn't help in any way." Skye stated and the idiot shrugged.

"I sha tried, that one counts." He said and we all made a sound at his stupidity.

The commentator made a call for all contenders to get ready and we began to leave the room one by one. Mateo's hands around Skye as they walked out with him whispering encouraging words to her. Somadina and Vanessa were bickering about who would and won't win. Leaving Elyon and I.

Okayyy...

I looked at her and she was already looking at me, her hands jammed into the pocket of track suit varsity jacket. She didn't seem like she was in a hurry to leave this place. I didn't even know if she wanted me to stay with her or not. Resolving in my mind that she probably didn't want me around, I turned to leave.

Only for her to grab my hand and pull me back to her, her other hand coming to rest around my neck as she pulled my face down and pressed her lips to mine.

I definitely didn't see that coming.

Smiling against her lips, I looped my hand around her waist, drawing her closer to me and tilting my head to deepen the kiss. Her hands came to cup my face, the trail of her fingers on my skin sending electric waves through my veins that had me groaning.

This must definitely mean she has forgiven me.

The distant voice of the commentator telling the contenders to get to their stands had us pulling away. We definitely didn't want to miss the show. With a smile tugging at the corners of my lips, I looked at her, watching her dilated her pupils were, her swollen her lip was.

"I-" I made to start talking but she rose her finger up to stop me from saying anything further.

"This doesn't mean I have forgiven you." She stated matter-of-factly before pulling away from my hold and sashaying away, me looking at her with my jaw hanging open.

Then suddenly I began to laugh, making my way out of the dressing room in time to meet the lace almost starting.

My girlfriend.

Always full of surprises.

❀⋆❀⋆❀

I got out in time to see that all the contenders were already by their stand. I went to stand with Mateo and Somadina. I couldn't sight Vanessa, or Elyon anywhere near. I could see my sister by her own designated stand, goggles and shower cap on to prevent the water from touching her hair.

"How many laps?" I asked Mateo and he looked at me.

"Four laps, back and forth." He explained. "I really hope we win. It will be a good start." He added and I nodded. I could tell he was nervous. I was too.

"Crescent creamed us in academics and they already have one of the trophies." Somadina chirped. "We really can't let them have two."

"I love them Crescent guys, but this is on competition and during the few hours of competition, we are enemies." I stated.

"Amen brother." Soma replied, trading high fives with me.

"Shhh. It's starting." Mateo hushed and we all looked to the pool.

"On your mark." The referee called and everyone went on their knees. My heart was beating at a rather rapid pace. I was nervous to say the least. If we could bag this, then it would be a good start for us at Sports.

She'll win.

"Set." The referee called again and they took to their position. I felt someone grab unto my hand and I looked to see it was Somadina.

"Dude." I chided, wanting to remove my hand from his but he had a death grip on it.

Immediately, the whistle went off and all the contenders dashed into the water. The crowd went wild with cheer.

I watched as Skye put all the energy in it, swinging her arms fast to make head way. She obviously couldn't see if she was leading by any chance but I could, we all could. And she was not. Sophia was.

Fück that girl is freakishly fast.

"Okay, now I see what Skye was saying." Mateo stated, shock and horror evident in his eyes.

"Is this babe a fish or something? See how she's so fast." Somadina lamented. I sighed, rubbing my temple. The swimmers were already entering the third lap and I began to see Skye meeting up to Sophia.

"Guys, she's catching up." I told them and they began to pay attention again.

Come on sis.

The cheer for Skye became louder just as they finished the third lap and were entering the last lap. The distance between Skye and Sophia was so little, I couldn't even tell who was winning.

Come on sis.

Soon, they got to the end. Both of them. Sophia and Skye got to the end together.

But Sophia touched the buzzer first and Crescent High went wild with cheer.

Fuck!

"They were so close." Mateo muttered. I could see the pained expression he had on his face and I exhaled, looking back to the pool side. Kunle and Adams along with other students of Crescent High had gone to hail Sophia, with Kunle lifting her and setting her on his shoulder.

Is she that light?

I saw Skye lift herself out of the pool, an impassive look on her face. Elyon and Vanessa rushed to hug her and Limelight student clapped as she made her way down the walk way, as a sign of appreciation. She threw them a kiss, mustering a small smile.

"Come on guys." I called to them. We walked towards her, meeting her half way.

Mateo was the first to hug her then he pressed his forehead to hers, telling her something I couldn't hear but I saw her nodding. Somadina gave her a shoulder squeeze, telling her she did good before I walked up to her and gave her a bear hug. She wasn't crying so that was a really good sign.

"You did good, alright. You did very good." I told her repeatedly and she nodded, pulling away from me slightly.

"She was faster from the beginning. I already knew I didn't have a chance winning this..." She trailed off, a smirk resting on her lips. I knew she had more to say.

"But?" I asked, urging her to continue.

"But, track is tonight and they are all going to know who the Queen of Track is." She completed and I chuckled.

"That's my girl." I pulled her into another hug and pressed a kiss to the side of her head.

From the corner of my eyes, I could see Elyon watching me. I could feel her intent gaze on me. But when I turned to look at her, she was looking away. My mind couldn't help but go back to the kiss that happened half an hour ago in the dressing room and I smiled.

"Guys," Vanessa called. "Coach is calling all of us to go get something to eat before we start training for track." She told us. I looked around and saw that the room was almost empty, safe for just a few people from Crescent High taking pictures.

"Come on babe." Mateo made to take Skye's hand in his.

"No." Elyon spoke up. "We ladies will stay together." She stated matter-of-factly, shooing Mateo away as she led Skye away, not before giving me a side look.

"She's trying to avoid me." I told Mateo who stood beside me. He looked at me in sarcasm.

"You think?" He asked, his voice laced with sarcasm. "She hasn't spoken to you since shit went down yesterday."

"But then she kissed me in the dressing room." I revealed to him and his eyes widened in shock. "Now I don't even know what exactly she's feeling. Is she angry with me? Is she not angry with me?" I asked, totally confused. Mateo let out a chuckle.

"Mehn, girl be crazy." He muttered and I nodded in agreement.

Looking around the room, I saw Sophia packing her things into her bag. Then I saw someone walk over to her, a tall male figure that I knew anywhere.

Khalil.

He was smiling from ear to ear, obviously laying on his charm. I couldn't hear what they were saying but I could pick up the body language. She was smiling back at him but I could see that she was definitely playing hard to get. He tried helping her with her gym bag but she stopped him, said a few more words to him and walked away. Khalil watched her, eyes trained on her body, that smirk till evident on his lips.

Till he turned towards my direction.

And his eyes met mine.

His smile dropped, replaced with a scowl.

We engaged in a glaring contest. I wouldn't lie, he looked intimidating. Khalil was intimidating. But I have promised myself to drop that fear I used to feel for him. No, he won't have such power over me any more.

"Hey, you coming?" Mateo's voice jerked me out of my reverie and I looked to see that he had gotten to the door. I was so absent minded that I didn't notice.

"Yeah." I looked back to where I had seen Khalil and didn't see him there any more. I frowned. "I'm coming." I replied, jogging over to meet up with Mateo.

My mind in jumbles of thoughts.

"Why are you eating light?" I asked Mateo incredulously. We were at the snack shack, getting some junks to eat while we wait for lunch.

"Coach said we athletes should eat light. Something about, he doesn't want us to be heavy." Mateo grimaced and I chuckled. I was so thankful I wasn't representing the school on track race. I don't play with my tummy.

"That's a bummer. More for me then." I chirped and he scoffed.

"Don't think I didn't notice the small exchange between you and Khalil few moments ago." He stated, peering at me. I didn't say anything, busying myself to picking more snacks.

"You can't ignore this conversation." I heard him again

"Well I don't want to talk about it." I replied and he scoffed again.

"I thought I was the one that kept things to myself, Jamal. Not you." He said, his tone having an edge to it. My hand paused from wanting to take something. I knew what he was talking about.

"Don't dare take that road, Jamal." He warned and I scoffed.

"Well, I am not suicidal if that's what you are scared of." I said those words before I could stop myself. Mateo paused, looking at me with an unreadable expression and that's when I realized what I had said.

Fuck.

"Ouch." He muttered, chuckling immediately afterwards.

"Mateo, that's not what I meant." I said, trying to apologize but he shook his head.

"Oh, I have a very perfect idea of what you meant." He answered. Before I could talk even further, I saw Skye, walking towards us with tears in her eyes. I frowned and so did Mateo, at least more than he was already frowning.

"Skye?" I called but Mateo rushed over to her. I saw Elyon running towards us to, a look of concern on her face. I turned to her, asking her what happened and she shook her head in response. But I knew she knew what was going on.

"Skye, what's wrong?" Mateo asked her. She sniffed, cleaning her eyes.

"You know that guy you chased off last time. The one that was trying to make a move on me." She started and Mateo nodded, his face contorted into a scowl. I remembered him too.

The asshole from Atlantic Hall School.

"He came back again and I was trying to tell him off. Even Elyon was trying to help me tell him off." She sniffed again. My frown deepened.

What did that Asshole do?

"What happened Skye?" I could hear the edge in Mateo's voice.

"I-I was going to l-leave-" She paused, "when he groped me." She revealed. Several alarm bells went off in my head.

He did what?!

"He did what!" Mateo voiced out my thought in a more angered tone. His face was red, literally and his fist was clenched. I exchanged a look with Elyon.

Oh no.
