Prologue: Callisthenes

See the thunder light up the sky? It's beautiful, yet scary, isn't it? There are many things that people fear, and thunder could be one of them. But have you ever wondered... Who is in charge of the thunder? Surely, it cannot be a young boy, it must be a powerful God of thunder... Right?

--×☆×--

The thunder lit up the cloudy sky of San Francisco, flashing, then fading and roaring away ominously, heavy rain becoming it's stead. All children and most adults have found shelter within their safe and cozy homes, resting by the campfire, or maybe in bed sleeping. Yet, there was one child who stayed out, despite the occasional ominous bellows of the angered thunder and terrifyingly heavy rain. That child was known as Callisthenes Forger, or the Weird Thunder Man according to the neighborhood 3rd graders.

He had received this nickname since he had always been occasionally seen basking in the rain, even more so if the rain is hard or a thunderstorm had came, but was never seen when it was sunny... Unless he had been ordered to look for groceries. In this thunderstorm, the boy is wearing a somewhat baggy, dark grey hoodie that had four light grey letters on it that had said "ACE!", a plain pair navy jeans, and some worn black sneakers.

Callisthenes looked up at the cloudy night sky nostalgically, looking back on the past. Before he had moved to the busy San Francisco, he was born and raised in Greece, with his single father and all his old friends, making happy memories and such... Until he was abruptly given notice by his father that he had to move to his great aunt's because of his father having a lot more work than usual. (If only...) He thought to himself. (If only I had told him I would be alright by my own in the house, I wouldn't have to be here, in goddamn San Francisco...) He groaned angrily at his thoughts, as another thunderbolt booming across the sky.

"Cal, it's time to head in now. It's almost 9:00 pm, the rain's getting worse, and dinner is ready." A sharp voice said, startling him. "σκατά! [Shit!]" He cursed as soon as the sharp voice spoke. He took a good look on who was in front of him, and turned out to only be his great aunt, Janette. Janette chuckled, and smiled back at him boldly. Janette was as tall as Callisthenes, maybe even a little taller. Her hair was in a low ponytail that ended at the middle of her back, and was rather thin, but somewhat muscular. "Did I interrupt your brooding montage, Damien?" She laughed, teasingly, one hand on her hip, and one holding an umbrella. Callisthenes shook his head, flustered. "N-no, you didn't, I was just, er, just thinking about Greece again." He said, his head lowered.

Janette smiled and motioned to the open, glowing door of her home. "Like I said before, Cal, you should head in. The food's starting to get cold." Callisthenes shook his head. "No! I mean -- no, it's fine out here, the food can wait, right?" He protested, trying to convince his great aunt that it was fine. His great aunt's expression immediately changed from happy to angered. "You'll get a cold, Callisthenes. Do you want to eat cold dinner outside with the raccoons?" Janette said angrily, her voice sharper now. Callisthenes opened his mouth to protest, but felt if he were to protest more, it would only make things worse. So he closed his mouth, and shook his head.

Janette smiled. "Good," She began, "Now follow me." Callisthenes followed her to the glowing door, but stopped to gaze back at the cloudy sky, and sighed. "I'll be back soon," He said to the sky. "I promise." At that moment, several thunderbolts pierced the sky, forming a messy trident, roaring loudly as the vision disappeared. Callisthenes glared at the sky in confusion, "Wait, was tha-" "CAL!" Janette interrupted him impatiently. "Coming! Coming..." He said rushing into the house.
