Chapter Eleven: Dodgeball

Fox... The Fox's behavior is clever and cunning, and similar to a certain student in this school. The fox is currently working anonymously on a small "mission to dispel the so-called impersonator." Once the mission is over... Who knows what will happen. Although it seems like nothing is happening right now, the mission is almost over.

--×☆×--

As Arthur and Callisthenes entered the club room, they both noticed the amount of students. There were a lot, despite the size of the small club room. Many of them were talking to eachother, some looking with boredom at the entrance, like they were waiting for someone.

"Welcome to the Dodgeball Club, Callisthenes," Arthur said, avoiding eye contact with him. "The Dodgeball Club isn't a very popular club since students fear of getting injuries. They also have been on a losing streak, so students have been leaving for other more successful clubs."

Callisthenes nodded at silently at Arthur's words as he looked around the classroom. On the far right corner of the opposite wall, there were some dusty shelves that held very worn trophies, most likely from old tournaments.

While he was looking at the trophies he felt pressure from the students' stares. He glanced back to see students whispering about him, saying things like; "That's the new kid? Why'd we have to get a criminal...?" and "We should ask him what it's like to date Cindy."

He gulped nervously at the strange remarks about him, and tried to ignore them by listening to Arthur. "In the club room, they normally discuss strategies with the leaders, Pierre the student leader,  and Ms. Chandra, the teacher leader. I heard they haven't discussed much however." Arthur explained, as he took out a two way radio. Callisthenes looked curiously at the radio and looked back up at Arthur, who was still avoiding eye contact.

"What's the radio for?" He asked him casually, putting his hands in his pockets. "It's nothing too important, I'm just going to report to Council of my whereabouts," Arthur gripped the radio tighter, Callisthenes taking it as a hint not to press further.

It was probably just student council president business anyway.

"Well, I should leave the club room for now. I'll come back soon, I just need to report to the student council," He turned and opened the door, Callisthenes catching two figures walk by quickly. "The leaders will explain the rest. You should take a seat now, Callisthenes."

Right when Arthur closed the door, Callisthenes saw the other door open, revealing two figures. A tall, feminine figure, and a slightly shorter more masculine figure. "Hey there, we're back everybody!" The muscular boy said, smiling widely.

Immediately upon the boy's cheerful greeting, everybody switched their eyes to him, chatting and buzzing away. While they did so, Callisthenes sat in one of the back chairs so he wasn't that noticeable. "The office agreed to let us participate in the next dodgeball redemption rally," The tall lady said over the students, grabbing their attention. "If we win, we will be in the next Dodgeball High School Tournament, but if we lose, we will not participate." She explained, looking over all the students.

The students became happier, but also more nervous. Saying things like; "That's great! We just have to win!" and "What if we lose? We'll be the worst sports club next to Badminton Club..." While they talked, the masculine boy whispered something to the tall lady, and shortly after, she smiled and straightened herself primly.

"We also have some other good news to celebrate," She began, looking at Callisthenes. (Okay... I'm ready for the staring...) He thought nervously, looking back at her and the muscular boy. "We have a new member joining us today! Come over and introduce yourself to us, Callisthenes."

He felt every single students' on him, and almost felt like he was going to hyperventilate again. But he quickly breathed in and out, calming himself down. He got up from his chair and quickly ran to the front of the class. He turned to face them and cleared his throat.

"Hey there everyone, I'm ₑᵣ Callisthenes Forger, but you can call me Cal. I ᵤₕ hope I'm good for the team!" Callisthenes introduced himself nervously to the students, hoping they didn't hear him hesitating.

The muscular boy smiled at him widely. "Nice to meetcha, Cal! I'm Pierre, the student leader! And she's our teacher leader, Ms. Chandra!" Pierre introduced themselves cheerfully, while Ms. Chandra simply smiled at Callisthenes. This seemed familiar.

"Now that you have introduced yourself, it's time we see how good you are at dodging dodgeballs in the court." Ms. Chandra said, as the students began to lose interest in them, and began talking to one another.

"So I have to test my skills?" Callisthenes asked them. Pierre nodded. "Yep! We need to see if you're a dud, or a master!" He said optimistically. Ms. Chandra nodded back silently. "Technically, yes. And by the way, by we, I mean the whole club," Callisthenes gulped nervously. This was going to be harder than he thought. "We'll be using the gym since the Basketball Club has a day off today. I also recommend changing into your gym uniform."

Before he could respond to her, she turned to the class, along with Pierre. "We will now be heading to the gym to witness Callisthenes's prowess. Everyone exit the club room and head downstairs!"

And at that moment, all the students stood up, and walked out the doors, chatting excitedly. Ms. Chandra and Pierre left as well, leaving Callisthenes and Arthur alone. He sighed. (I just hope I don't freak out in the court...) He thought nervously.

He quickly jumped when he realized someone's hand was on his shoulder. He turned his head around to see Arthur. "Good luck out there, Callisthenes. I'll be watching." And then, he left.

He gulped at his encouraging, yet ominous words. "Thank you, I guess."

--...--

Callisthenes walked towards the wall of the gym, since Ms. Chandra had told him too. He and a select few other students changed into their gym outfits for this event, and all of the students in gym uniforms except for him were on the attack line, each holding a dodgeball. Meanwhile, the other students without a uniform, including Pierre and Ms. Chandra, were observing on the sidelines.

"Alright, assuming you already know how to play dodgeball... The game will begin once you hear my phone ring. And trust me, you'll hear this ring..." Ms. Chandra said as she typed away on her phone.

Tension thickened as the silence in the gym became intense. Callisthenes breathed in... Then out... which luckily made him focus more and seem less afraid. He stared right into the eyes of the students with dodgeballs and didn't move.

(I'm ready... I think.) He thought as he stared them down.

RIIINNNGGG!

The students threw their dodgeballs, each having a different amount of speed. Callisthenes slid to the side, dodging several dodgeballs, then jumping to his left, dodging another pelting of dodgeballs. He had dodged them all.

(How... How the hell did I dodge all of that...?) He thought, looking at the dodgeballs on the floor as he felt his heart pumping hard from adrenaline.

The spectating students were surprised, and began talking loudly to one another. Even Ms. Chandra and Pierre were shocked. They were used to seeing students get hit by all the dodgeballs, or at least some dodging, then getting hit at the last second. This... This was new, but strangely familiar. But Arthur stared intently, his gaze unaltered.

Then Ms. Chandra's expression turned from shocked to miffed. "Very good job, Callisthenes. But unfortunately, I think that victory of yours might've been a tiny fluke." She looked sourly at the attack line, preparing to scold one of the students.

"Kao-im-hee! You didn't throw your dodgeball!" Ms. Chandra said loudly with an angry tone. A short girl with a shoulder length bob that had a bun on the back peaked her head out at Ms. Chandra.

"I was just... just waiting for the right time! And it's 'Kee-va', Miss." She responded nervously. Ms. Chandra sighed. "Well next time, throw quicker, Caoimhe." She said roughly to her. "Sorry Callisthenes, but we're going to do this one more time. Are you okay with that?"

He nodded. If he could handle one wave of pelting dodgeballs of eternal pain, then he can hand another wave of pelting dodgeballs of eternal pain.

Tension thickened again as the silence of the spectating students became more intense. Ms. Chandra turned on the timer, and the students on the attack line prepared their dodgeballs. Callisthenes stared at them, his chest being the only body part of his that was moving.

RIIINNNGGG!

Callisthenes could see each and every dodgeball, and could predict all their movements somehow. It's almost like his mind was completely crystal clear and calm. He jumped to his right and dodged a bunch of dodgeballs, then he slid farther to the right, dodging the late dodgeballs. He looked around to see if all of the dodgeballs had been thrown, but he suddenly felt an impending impact on his right. Caoimhe had been the last person to throw, and her dodgeball was heading right for him. He had no idea what he did next, but he definitely dodged the dodgeball. He did feel a strange hotness from his shoes, and he had ran from the far right to the far left.

The students were amazed, along with Pierre, but Ms. Chandra was just surprised. Arthur smiled and gave a thumbs up to Callisthenes before going back to his studies.

"Just amazing, Callisthenes! I can tell you were a past track runner," Ms. Chandra said happily as she typed quickly on her phone. "That was great! But as much as we want to see your throwing skills, we have to leave now since it's early out for a whole week." Pierre praised, giving a happy thumbs up.

Ms. Chandra took that as her cue to dismiss the Dodgeball Club, and soon, students were leaving to head home, to study, or to change. Callisthenes had to take a moment to realize what had happened, and took a few deep breaths. But as soon as Callisthenes was done, he had noticed Caoimhe talking to a strange girl with a varsity jacket that said "LISTEN TO PAEKUL".

His eyes widened when he realized who this varsity jacket girl was.

He walked over to where Arthur was sitting, not checking if he was there. "Hey Prez, I see the-" And right when he turned to see if Arthur was there... He wasn't there. "Hel- Yeoboseyo, oppa-senpai!"

He immediately turned his head around, to see the varsity jacket girl hugging his arm. He cringe and pushed her away. "τι κάνεις?!" It seemed like whenever he was shocked, he would speak in Greek.

The girl had strangely ignored his push. "Oppa, I need to see you on the roof!" She said unusually serious, balling her hands together in a begging way. He shook his head angrily at her. "And what makes me think you aren't going to try invite me to your creepy club again?"

She pouted her lips in response, her weak attempt at being cute. "Oppa-senpai, I promise with my whole heart that I won't invite you to anything shady! I just need to warn you!"

Callisthenes paused for a moment and looked at her angrily, but silently. Soon after a while, he sighed. "Okay, I'll follow you to the roof," He began. "But if you go back on your word, I'll report you to the student council." The varsity jacket girl smiled wide, almost abnormally, and squealed. "Eeee! Th- Arigato, Oppa-senpai!" She screeched, hugging his arm again.

Before he could push her away again, she grabbed his arm and dragged him to the stairs.

(This crazy girl better not be lying...)
