20. hostages

Jocelyn got all dress to have a little coffee with Barba that he invited her to take her. She got into her work clothes, stomping around with her heels.

"And this Barba guy? He another guy you like?" Yessina teases her big sister. "Look at you, divorced, single, big city and now has two guys wrapped around her finger. I never thought you would do such a thing."

"Its not like that."  Jocelyn rolled her eyes.

"Oh yeah, nothing wrong with going to get coffee with a guy who is so nice to you."

"Friends do that." Jocelyn grabs her bag and coat, she kisses her siblings heads and said goodbye and to call her if anything. She gets a cab and meets up with Barba at the coffee shop. He waits for her with coffees in his hand. "Thank you." He hands her the cup. "Im shocked you remember my order."

"Please, you are the only person i can actually stand." He smirks as they walked to sit outside.

"Awww im your friend. Say it, im your best friend." She pushes him.

"Im afraid if i do, you will never let it go."  Jocelyn just chuckles to herself. "You are a friend."

"Don't worry, i won't embarrass you in front of everyone." Then she stops. "Maybe a little but thats what you signed up when you said im your friend."

"And im having second thoughts." He jokes.

"No, no take backs. You are very lucky to have me in your life. Losing me will be a straight up tragedy. Only fools will dumb enough to let me go." She smirks as she drinks her coffee.

"Listen..." He sets his cup down. But his eyes widen when he sees his mother coming down the street. "Mami." Jocelyn turns to see the older woman by her side.

"Hola mijo." She kisses his cheek. "Is this your date?" She points at Jocelyn.

"Just talking. Friends." He stands up. "Mami, this is Jocelyn Peña, she works with me." Her eyes lightened up. Shaking Jocelyn's hand.

"He has told me so much about you." Jocelyn tries not to laugh. "Sorry about him, he can be very uptight about work."

"I like to bring him down his high horse at times, but he is a great ADA, you should be proud of him." Barba stands beside his mother, trying to end the conversation but the two women just kept chatting.

"Good, if i cant do it, then you can." They laughed. "Oh! Did he ask you to go with him to this theater play next month?"

"He did not?" Jocelyn turns to him, surprised.

"I was going to..." He mumbled through his teeth.

"dios mio! Im sorry!" She realized that she spilled the beans. "Mira, i should go, so many things to do. It was a pleasure meeting you Jocelyn." His mother kissed her cheek and his and went off with her day.

"I am sorry about her." He looks at her direction.

"Why? Its a mom's job to embarrass her children." The walked the other way to get to work. "So this play? You going to take me or not?"

"You like that stuff?" Barba frowns.

"I haven't gone to one, so if you ask me, yeah, i will go." She stops to look at him. "Im not as classy as you, counselor."

"Will you go with me. My mother cant, and you are the only one i think of that would come with me."

"Fine, just because your mom likes me."

"You should take that as a compliment, she really doesn't like anyone she meets."

"Im a mother best dream. You got lucky."

Jocelyn sits and chills with Sonny at his desk. Liv was not there yet so they decided to chat for bit until real work came in.

"So im thinking right, date in the park, picnic?" He whispers only for them to hear. "Sun setting, beautiful music..." He hides his smile with his hand.

"Why do you have ruin the surprise." Jocelyn whines. "Surprise me."

"So no picnic?"

"I cant say no." She smiles. "Oh, Yessina and Issac want you back again. They really like you." She places her hand on his.

"Im glad to hear that." He plays with her fingers. "Now I gottta charm your mother when she comes." He gets a call. Jocelyn playfully rolled her eyes. "Yeah, on it." He stands up. "We got a call. Push in rapist. Let me tell Dodds."

"I'll meet you up." Jocelyn takes her coat. Just as she gets in, waiting for Sonny, Finn comes in.

"What? Not your prince charming?" He buckles in.

"But you are the man of my dream Finn." He hums.

"Dont get too attached." She smiles and drives off, following Dodds and Sonny. They made to the apartment complex. They take statements and checked around for the man. Jocelyn heads down as the husband said that the guy jumped out of the window. She looks around, she looks up to where the couples place were.

"Nothing ok the canvass yet?" Dodds joins her outside.

"No. Building is on lockdown." She looks up. "Its a long jump, either he got hurt or he's Spiderman."

"He's no Peter Parker, he climbed up." Sonny and Finn joined them. "Neighbors called in a suspicious man checking doors in the adjacent roof."

"Good, Hes stuck up there." The four of them headed up to the roof. Guns out and searching for the guy. As Dodds and Sonny head up, yelling and finding the man.

"Hey, Jocelyn Peña?" Lucy, Noah's sitter.

"Hey Lucy, whats up? Sorry, Livs not here yet."

"Shes not?" She looked scared. "Im a little worried. This morning, i sent her to the brownstone of another family I sit for. I had a really strange vibe from the mom and-"

"What did Liv say about it?" Jocelyn stops her.

"Well, i havent been able to talk to her. Look, she just sent me this weird text." Lucy shows the message on her phone to Jocelyn. Jocelyn frowns and grabs the phone and heads to the boys.

"Boys, we have a major problem here." She charges in. "Liv just texted this to her sitter." She hands the phone to Finn.

"Stuck at precinct all day. Pick up william at day care. He has a play date with Lewis today." He reads the text.

"William Lewis?" Barba frowns.

"Isn't he the guy who kidnapped Liv?" Jocelyn pointed out, hearing about it a while ago.

"Thats not good. When did you last hear from her?" Barba goes on.

"I texted her a few hours ago about the push in rapist." Dodds said. "She answered back."

"But you didn't actually speak to her?" Barba kept looking at the phone. Dodds shakes his head. "And now shes sending us a text about William Lewis?" He tries to call Liv.

"Thats hot to be a code for 10-13."

"Lucy said that Liv checked in a neighbor this morning." Jocelyn tells them.

"Donde?"

They sent in back up. Jocelyn stands back, watching everyone go into position. Jocelyn bites her nails as Liv was inside and the children. She talks to ESU, clearing out places and better angles to go to in case of the worse case scenario.

The crew went inside the bus to get visuals and to hook the phone for negotiations. Thats when Liv called Dodds. They got the names of the people inside. And thats when Tucker came in.

They got the third hostage taker, the mom was alright and now waiting. Barba was on scene now and Jocelyn waits for another call from Benson. With the chaos, she steps out, needed air. Barba follows her, Sonny notices.

"You alright?" He stands in front of her.

"Need to clear my head before I go off on Ralph." She pushes her face back. "It always has to be the idiots." 

"Worried about Liv?"

"Of course I am." She snickered. "If Joe hurts her, Im going in, no matter what." Jocelyn steps back inside the bus.

"Ill go in to take Richard." Dodds steps in. "Ill go as an EMT."

"No." Jocelyn shakes. "Youre the sargent, you stay and take the spot of authority." The men looked at her. "Ill go."

"Absolutely not." Sonny tells her.

"Im not going to let you do that." Barba says as well.

"You need to stay behind and call the shots, you read my file right?" She looks at only at Dodds and Tucker. "I know how to negotiate, i did some undercover before i went to homicide. Ill go in. We need you here sargent." The men looked at each other.

"Get her prepped." Dodds calls it. Jocelyn leaves the bus and dresses as an EMT.

"You are insane." Sonny tells her.

"Ill be fine." She breathes out as she hops out.

"Im not letting you go in." Sonny stops her. Jocelyn looks at his eyes, filled with fear. "Dont do this."

"Its part of the job." She walks away. She gets mic'd up and helps carry the cart in.

"Stand by, he wants you both to strip." Jocelyn looked back at Tucker. Damn it. She returns back. Sonny follows her. She comes out wearing her spandex, a borrowed shirt, socks and the vest. Barba and Sonny watched as she enters the house. Liv's eyes widen as she sees Jocelyn walking in.

"The money is all there." Jocelyn says as she hands them the envelope.

"What about my car?" Joe points the gun at the two.

"Hey, they told me to tell you that its on the way, so is that helicopter." the real EMT guy stood behind her, hands up.

"How do I know youre not lying?"

"If they say its coming, its coming." Liv tells him.

"Fine. Get him out of here." the two squat down to pick up the father. "Wait! the vest, take them off." The real EMT looks at Jocelyn. She nods her head and they gave them the vest. They carried the guy out and rolled him over to the real EMTs. Barba immediately takes off his coat and wraps it around Jocelyn.

"Nice work." Tucker said to her. "How it look in there?"

"Its not good. Livs fine." Sonny takes her away to get her back to her clothes.

"Are you out of your mind!" He yells. She puts on her boots.

"It had to be done!" She yells back. "I wasn't going to let Dodds go. I was the safest bet!"

"You couldve gotten hurt! I couldve gone in!"

"Im fine! Nothing happened!" The yelling from the bus was loud, Finn and Barba were concerned about the two.

"Don't you ever pull anything like that again!" He pointed at her. "I can't lose you!" He walks away from the built up anger, leaving her alone. She wraps Barbas coat around her and sits back down. She has never seen Sonny this upset. He was right, it was a dangerous situation but it was handled.  She comes out of the bus like nothing happened.

"Estas bien?" Barba asks her as Sonny and her were distanced.

"Dont worry about it." She looks at the front door. The door opens, Roxie comes out, slowly. She checks the car and she gives in, surrendering herself.

Out comes Liv, the kids, and Joe. He had a gun to Liv's head. Jocelyn's heart was beating fast. They were close to the car, the kids ran out, heading to safety. But Liv was still with Joe. Then Liv throws a punch, Jocelyn jumps, Sonny holding her back as a gunshot went off.

"Liv!" She screams. Sonny holds her close to him, arms around her waist, making sure she doesn't get hurt. She finally sees Liv was fine. Her body went limp. 

"Shes okay. Shes okay." Sonny hugs her from behind. "They're all okay." She sees them take Liv to the ambulance, Liv nods her head to Jocelyn, finally some relief.
