37 - Games
"Yo, lovebirds!" Minho said once he saw Newt and I sat down together, but his expression was definitely different. "Want some?" He shoved two plates toward us, which I gladly took.
"What's this?" I pointed at something that looked like a cupcake on my plate.
"Now that, Miss. Don't Call Me Babydoll, is a delicious dessert every guy in here would kill for."
I rolled my eyes by remembering the thing Minho called me on my second day in the Glade.
"We never have desserts."
"I know. I stole them." Minho smiled. "Oh, shuck. The Second-in-command is right next to me! Imagine if I get a punishment for stealing now." He dramatically gasped.
I couldn't help to laugh out loud.
"Why do you steal the desserts?"
Minho and Newt both coughed loudly, making me confused. Slowly Minho leaned closer toward me.
"Well, you know, Shebean. Lots of boys in here would do everything to have free desserts. I'm smart, so I just steal them and you're lucky I saved you one. But those boys.." Minho sighed, though he was sarcastic. "They would even bet on the craziest things for desserts! Isn't that right, Ben?" Minho almost yelled the last few words.
Again, I chuckled loudly, though I didn't understand a word of what Minho said. Minho smiled in satisfaction and kept on eating, while Newt started whispering.
"What the shuck are you doing? You're acting crazy!"
"You're jacked." Chuck corrected, using the Glader slang.
"I'm cheering her up! And guess what? It damn worked, you shuckfaces! I cheered her up!" Minho whisper-yelled in excitement, focusing on the 'I'.
I smiled. "You know girls are not deaf? I can hear you."
"There are lots of things I don't know about girls." Minho rested his head on his hand. "So you tell me, Shebean. Being oblivious.. is that a girl's thing too?"
"Oblivious about what?" I asked.
"Oh, I don't know." Minho shrugged mysteriously. "Just a guess of mine."
I hummed in response and kept eating my food and dessert, of course. "So those bonfires," I started. "When do y'all have them? They're fun."
"Whenever a new Greenie comes up," Newt responded. "Which will be in about two weeks, I think."
I gasped quietly. "So I've been here for two weeks already?"
"Two weeks of hell for me!" Minho threw his hands in the air. "Just kidding. The Glade's even better now."
My face turned bright red at Minho's comment. "Because I'm a girl," I smirked a bit.
"Or because you're Jane." Chuck corrected. "Janes are nice. I don't know any other girls, but some of them can be like.."
"Deformed Grievers?" I asked as I thought about the things Minho called me once or how I called him.
"Disabled chickens?" Minho wondered.
"Dingleberries?"
"Mean Hoes?"
"We get it!" Newt quickly interrupted with a small chuckle, though it didn't sound very real.
"Maybe." Chuck shrugged. Then he stared at my food with a twinkle in his eyes. Half of the cupcake was left.
"Here, you have it." I pushed the Glade toward Chuck.
"Thanks, Jane!" Chuck immediately stuffed his whole mouth full of the dessert.
"Hey! I could've died by stealing that cupcake for you! Not Chuck!" Minho said, offended, but I could see he was faking it. Newt was right, he was acting crazy, but I loved it. Sometimes I would get nervous about both of the boys, but at that point during dinner, I never felt more comfortable before.
"Can't we do a bonfire tonight? Without a Greenie?" I suggested. Minho and Newt both frowned, probably not used to bonfires without a new Greenie. "There will be desserts," I added.
"I'm in!" Minho slammed his hands on the table. "Hopefully Ben will shut up about his stupid desserts now! Where's Alby?"
"I'll ask." Newt decided.
"Go, Newt!" Minho yelled once the boy walked away. I giggled, causing Minho to smile brightly. Later, when Newt wasn't back, Zart joined our table.
"Yo." He casually said, but a grin was hidden behind his face.
"Need something?" Minho suspiciously asked, definitely not like the fact a boy he didn't know very well sat down next to him.
"Where's Newt?" Zart questioned, mostly looking at me.
"He's asking Alby if we can have a bonfire tonight," I explained.
"Oh, really?" Zart scoffed. "Anyone wants to play truth or dare?"
"We're not even at the shuck bonfire yet!" Minho argued as he scooted away from Zart, like he didn't trust him or something. I guessed Minho didn't trust anyone at all, except for Newt, Alby, Chuck, Ben maybe, and hopefully me.
"I know, but I've got some nice questions and dares." Zart moved his head closer to me. Minho tensed up even more, for some reason.
"I'm just gonna do a little foreplay. Jane, I'm gonna pretend you chose truth."
"I-."
Zart interrupted me. "What did you and Newt do those two times you came out of the woods?"
"What?" I was confused by the sudden question.
"You heard what I asked. What were you two doing?"
"We were throwing knives and talking." I hesitantly answered. Zart's question was weird.
"Throwing knives? Talking?" Zart scoffed.
"Yeah, that's right."
"Why would you throw knives?" Minho wondered, still giving Zart some glances before looking at me.
"It's relieving and fun." I shrugged.
Zart didn't seem to believe me. "I bet you kissed."
Minho slammed his hands on the table again, but this time not in excitement.
"You slintheads and your stupid bets! Shuck those desserts and let us live, jeez! All those questions and bets all the time.. the constant bugging on forcing us to do something, suspecting that we did something.." Minho trailed off, breaths heavy out of anger. "I think you should leave, Zart."
A bit shocked I watched Minho give Zart a last look before the blonde walked away.
"What bets?" I carefully asked.
"What bets?" Minho repeated like he was denying something, acting shocked. "I don't know anything about bets."
I sighed and let go of it, not wanting to make Minho angrier than he already was.
He definitely changes mood quickly, I knew for sure.
"And?" Minho looked up when Newt sat down again. "Bonfire?"
"Yeah."
"Yes!" Chuck screamed, making a few boys look up. Minho smiled too, and I followed.
"Hey, what was Zart doing here?" Newt lowered his voice, eyes almost in fear. Was he afraid of Zart or something?
"He just said some stuff." Minho shrugged. "Bets, truth or dare, and you."
Newt's face darkened. "What did he say about me?" He panicked, talking so fast I barely understood it.
"He only asked where you were."
Newt sighed in relief and relaxed his tense body. "Thank god."
"What did you think he said about you?" Minho wondered. I raised an eyebrow, quite curious about Newt's answer, which he obviously got nervous by.
Newt's face turned a deep red as he ran a hand through his hair. And wow, that looked amazing. The way his messy hair just went everywhere, but still looked amazing, especially when he ran a hand through it or when he came out of the shower.. damn.
"I- uhm.." Newt scrunched his nose. "I don't know. Uhh, nothing. I didn't suspect Zart to say anything, obviously." He stammered.
Minho cleared his throat, making it obvious he didn't believe Newt. "Does our Newtie have a secret?" He playfully hit Newt on the shoulder, who immediately shook it off.
"I don't have a secret." He grumbled.
"I think he does have a secret." Chuck blurted out.
"What is it?" Minho bugged.
"I said I didn't have a secret and especially not one Zart knows about." Newt defended, but I didn't completely believe him. Neither did the others.
"Aah, come on! We're your best friends!" Minho pouted dramatically.
"He's right!" Chuck added.
Newt's face turned even redder and I noticed his uncomfortableness.
"Guys, if he doesn't want to say it, then it's fine." I interrupted. "You don't know if he even has a secret. Maybe he doesn't have one."
Newt gave me a thankful nod, one corner of his mouth turning up. Minho and Chuck didn't argue and finished the last bites of their food, which already took long enough because of the talking they did, especially Minho.
I was curious about whatever Newt was hiding too, because he definitely was, but decided not to do anything with it.
"Chuck, do you know anything else about those bets?" I turned to the kid. Newt and Minho shook their heads heavily, making me even more curious and suspicious.
"Chuck doesn't know a thing about bets." Newt quickly said.
"Yeah, I bet Chuck doesn't even know what bets are. Aha!" Minho added.
"I guess I don't know anything about bets then." Chuck mysteriously said. "Now can we get ready for the bonfire?"

The boys had lightened up the big fire in the middle of us, Gally was wrestling with some poor boys as usual, Minho sat with his coworkers, and Newt just walked around a bit.
"Anyone wants to play a game?" Zart shouted. Oh, god. I knew exactly what game.
"Truth or dare!"
"I'm in!" Ben immediately said. He sat down next to Zart, around the bonfire.
"I'm not!" Newt yelled.
"Oh, come on! Even Chuck is playing!" Zart argued. "Minho?"
"Nope." The Runner said, popping the p.
"Jane, please! I promise you won't have to do anything weird if you choose dare!" Zart pouted.
I sighed. "Fine."
"Minho, Newt? In now?"
"Hell yes." Minho walked over to us and sat down across from me, on a log, just like the others.
"Alright then. But if you dare to do anything, Zart.." Newt threatened in a mumble. Zart just grinned.
Well, Zart is energetic.
"Okay! Jane. Truth or dare?"
Why do I have to start?
"Truth." I chose.
"Who is your crush?" Zart blurted out. And holy, that went fast. We weren't even playing for a minute!
What do I say? Minho and Newt? Newt and Minho? How the shuck can I even be in love with two guys, who have completely different personalities?
Most people fell silent and waited for me to respond.
"I- uhm. I don't really have a crush." I lied, cheeks turning red.
Not just one, at least.
"Lie!" Some boys yelled. "That's a lie!"
"Well, who is it?" Ben questioned.
A bit embarrassed I thought about my answer and considered denying again.
A shucking spy in denial!
My face turned even redder than it already was as I bit my lip.
"Guys, it's me, obviously!" Chuck screamed. The boys all laughed and I gave Chuck the most thankful smile and nod ever. He saved me!
"Your turn, Jane! Ask!" Someone ordered.
"Uhm.. Newt. Truth or dare?" I hesitantly asked.
"Truth."
I just said the thing that popped up in my mind first. To be honest, I found it quite hard to think of something better. "If you had three wishes, what would they be?"
Newt sighed and seemed thoughtful for a second. "That we would find a way out of the maze.." He started. "To have hair like Minho.."
I chuckled lightly at Newt wanting Minho's hair.
Another thing that's so hot about them both! They look so different but just as good!
"And.." Newt frowned. "I don't know."
"Come on! She said three wishes!" Chuck crossed his arms as if he wanted to act tougher.
"I would wish for more wishes then." Newt sighed.
"And what would those wishes be?" Zart suspiciously asked.
"She said three wishes," Newt replied with a satisfied look on his face.
"Next!"

After we played truth or dare for a good time and some Gladers did embarrassing stuff, I sat down against a log. Later Newt sat down next to me and handed me a jar of Gally's drink, which I politely pushed away.
"I'm not drinking Gally's piss."
Newt chuckled. "It indeed looks like piss."
"Smells and tastes also," I added.
A few boys played some wooden instruments on the background, a song mixed in all the sounds together. Some danced, or tried to at least, some did flips, and others just watched.
Newt and I sat in silence, watching the fire and listening to the music, which sounded pretty good in my ears.
Newt mumbled something, immediately drawing my attention. "What did you say?"
Newt's mouth opened, then closed again. "Aah, shuck it." He mumbled, then he raised his voice again. "Jane, the only girl in the Glade, do you want to dance with me?" He held out his hand.
My cheeks heated up, but I gladly took Newt's hand. "Of course, Newt, the Second-in-command."
Newt smiled and got on his feet, gently pulling me with him. His large hand fitted perfectly into my surprisingly small one.
"Though I can't dance," Newt added, lowering his voice.
"Too late now." I simply answered. While we played truth or dare, I drank a few jars of Gally's drink, so my mind was not completely clear to realize I was so close to Newt and act nervous.
Both of our hands held each other, fingers intertwined. I wished to just focus on Newt, who watched my face carefully. Being so close to him made me happy and cheerful, but I could feel someone else their eyes burn on Newt and me dancing.
Slowly I turned my head to the left, just to stare Minho in the eyes. I couldn't help to admire him from afar, arms crossed, but gaze cold. His expression was blank as he watched Newt and I dance, but he still looked very good.
Newt followed my eyes to see who I was looking at. He took one of his hands out of mine and turned my head toward him with his fingers. Immediately I was lost in his beautiful eyes, instead of Minho's.
Newt leaned in, toward my ear, and lowered his voice even more. And wow, that sounded amazing.
"Look at me when I'm giving you my attention, love." He said.
I could swear I felt my legs get weak by the way he said that, or literally just the phrase. I fully turned to Newt again, who smiled soft and innocent by the time.
"Ready to tuck it in soon?" He asked.
"Yeah. I'll wait for Chuck."

A/N: I remember reading the sentence "Look at me when I give you my attention, love" somewhere. Credits to that person!!
Did you change teams through the book? For example: Did you like Newt x Jane more in the beginning but now Minho x Jane?
