EPILOGUE

Her head was upright, watching the screen, tears rolling down her face. She watched him 'fake' team up with the Capital favorite tributes, helping them kill Katniss Everdeen. The blonde knew he was struggling; he was barely hanging on. But she watched him reunite with Katniss, and a relief went through her. But something changed, she felt like she lost the final thing she ever loved. She watched their lips meet-and that's when Nova Mae Lambert knew she lost everything. That's when she raced home, not caring about who she shoved, or who was looking at her strangely. She was utterly broken; and there was no way anyone could fix her. Nova was mentally damaged.

For the rest of the games, she didn't watch. Family friends went by the house to check on her, and they gave her only small updates, letting her know Peeta was still alive. When the last final moments of the games came on the screen, Nova knew she had to watch. She watched as the two were both going to eat the poison berries-she clenched her eyes shut, not wanting to see her childhood best friend and lover die. A voice had stopped the two, and the games were over. Both tributes from District 12: Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark were the winners of the 74th Hunger Games.

The district was in pure excitement and pandemonium. District 12 had won the games for the second time, in all Hunger Games history. The first was of course Haymitch Abernathy; the drunken fool of the district.

Nova was too scared to see Peeta once again. She twisted her engagement ring on her finger, shuffling around her home. Peeta and Katniss would arrive home any minute from the train, and the blonde wasn't prepared to see him. How could she speak to him after he kissed her? Peeta betrayed her, after what he said before he left. He said Nova was his first and last love-that was all lies to the blonde now.

A crowd huddled around the two tributes, a small smile showing on their faces. Nova watched as the two were holding hands, smiling lovingly at each other. All color drained from her face. She felt tears cloud her eyes, but she chocked them back, walking right up the couple. Everyone fell silent, knowing Peeta and Nova were the power couple of the district, before everything happened with the games and Katniss, of course.

Peeta stared at Nova, she was still a breath of fresh air, that took his breath away. He saw the pain in her eyes, she didn't even try to hide it. He watched as Nova slid off her engagement ring, placing it in the palm of his hands. She nodded, giving them a sad smile, before she walked away. Her head was held high, as the tears she chocked back streamed down her face.

Nova felt empty inside. She was only 16 years old, and she felt like her life was already over. What else was there to live for? She lost her parents, and she lost Peeta. She had no one else who loved her. They were gone, and Nova was left with nothing.

The blonde sat by the tree, as she clenched onto a vine that lay beside her. Her eyes were clenched, as tears continued to stream down her face. She whispered out an 'I'm sorry', before her memories of her life flashed before her eyes. The first time meeting Peeta, her mother dying. The first time she kissed Peeta, and the first time her and Peeta made love. Her father dying, her engagement with Peeta. Peeta getting reaped into the games, Katniss and Peeta kissing. All the happy memories and all the sad ones flashed before her.

And when all was said and done, her pain and suffering were all gone. Nothing but a memory. Nova would finally have an eternity of sweet dreams.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: And that is a wrap on 'SWEET DREAMS'! I can't believe it is finally over, I'm so sad to see it end. I loved writing this book, it was an idea that I had suddenly had, about Peeta having a childhood best friend that soon blossomed into a romance. And with that plot in mind, Nova Mae Lambert was born. To me, she was the broken, yet perfect character I had in mind for Peeta. And if you didn't already know, Nova committed suicide by hanging herself. I do not condone anyone committing such an act on one's self, but depression is a serious mental issue that does some crazy things to us. Nova was depressed after both of her parents died, and with Peeta being reaped into the games, it worsened, especially when she saw Katniss and Peeta kiss. It may be 'overdramatic' for her to kill herself over a boy, but it wasn't just a boy. She had lost the 3 people whom she ever loved, and they were gone.
