AFTER A BORING DAY AT SCHOOL WHERE NOTHING HAPPENED, Evelyn, Caroline, Bonnie, and Elena were back at the Mystic Grill, talking.
"Well, I was talking to Grams, and she said the comet is a sign of impending doom. The last time it passed over Mystic Falls, there was lots of death. So much blood and carnage, it created a bed of paranormal activity." Bonnie said, and Evelyn listened, actually interested in what the brunette with curly hair was saying, and nodding along.
"Yeah, and then you poured Grams another shot and she told you about the aliens," Caroline said, interrupting Bonnie who sent her a look. Evelyn immediately smacked the girl's arm softly "Care don't act like that." She said, before turning around and looking at Bonnie, "Don't worry Bon, I don't think your grandma is an alcoholic and what you were saying about the comet was interesting."
Bonnie only gave her closed lips smile, and Caroline, seeing as their small conversation was finished, turned around to look at Elena with an excited glint in her eyes.
"So then what?" Referring to Elena and Stefan who had spent all yesterday talking to each other.
"So then nothing." Elena simply said, shrugging.
All three girls sent each other's confused look, but only Caroline spoke her mind.
"You and Stefan talked all night? There was no sloppy first kiss or touchy-feely of any kind?"
"Nope. We didn't go there."
"I don't know if I should be happy because we're talking about my cousin but..at the same time, Elena! You should've made a move!" Evelyn whined, shooting a look at the other brunette.
"Exactly! Not even a handshake? I mean, Elena, we are your friends. Ok? You are supposed to share the smut."
"We just talked for hours."
"OK, what is with the blockage? Just jump his bones already! Ok, it's easy. Boy likes girl, girl likes boy, sex!"
"Too much, I don't want to hear it," Evelyn said, covering her ears in a joking manner.
"Profound," Elena said, standing up and taking her things with her.
"Where are you going?" Bonnie asked, confused.
"Caroline's right. It is easy. If I sit here long enough, I'll end up talking myself out of it instead of doing what I started the day saying what I was going to do." Elena said, giving them a smile and a wave before walking away. The three girls shared a look and Evelyn nodded her head "Damn, Elena is finally making the first move."

THE MOMENT HE HAD CALLED, EVELYN HAD WAITED ABOUT FIVE SECONDS BEFORE ANSWERING HER PHONE.
It has become their routine, he would call once a week, ask how she was doing, and if everything was ok, he'd promise he would see her during the closest holiday, but then he'd ditch her with some lame excuses every time.
It had been going on since Zach trusted her to be on a plane alone, so since she was around 14, and now she was almost 18, just one more month to go, and yet she had not been able to see him as much as she wished to.
"Are you sure you can't make it?" Evelyn asked, a frown on her face as she played with one of her rings.
"I'm so sorry Eve, you know how work is. I just- I've got loads to do, and yet it's not looking good right now. I'm sorry." He mumbled, and Evelyn pictured him, phone in one hand while with the other he massaged the bridge of his nose.
"It's ok." Her voice became small, almost audible, but he still heard her, he always did.
"I promise I'll…I'll fix this ok? I'll work this out, and you can come over the summer. I swear Evelyn." The person on the other line swore, and Evelyn just nodded, she knew that he was just now realising how much he had truly missed as she explained which college she had been eyeing for when she will graduate the next year, and he had been more serious as he called her by her full name instead of the usual nicknames he'd call her.
"You have my word ok?" He added when the blonde didn't respond.
She sighed, biting her lip before nodding.
"Ok, I guess I'll see you this summer then?" She said.
"Yes, I promise. You can stay here as long as you want." He vowed
"Ok, that's good. We haven't seen each other in a while." She mentioned and he hummed under his breath. A while was an understatement, if Evelyn remembered correctly it had been almost one and a half years since they last saw each other.
"I know, and I'm sorry, I swear I am, but I promise I'll fix this ok? Just trust me." He said, and Evelyn let a small smile slip past her lips.
"Ok, I have to go now, we have to light the candles, the comet is supposed to pass soon." She explained and the man chuckled.
"You should've got the lanterns, so it would be more like that cartoon you love." He said, laughing as she gasped in mock offence.
"I will let you know that Tangled is one of the best movies that has ever been produced," Evelyn said, smiling as she glanced at all the people around her.
"It's a cartoon for kids."
"Same thing."
"I'll let you be free now, ok? I love you, Eve." He said, his voice sounding quieter as if he was suddenly aware that everyone from his side could hear him talk, so Evelyn just smiled, even if he couldn't exactly see her.
"Love you too, bye." And with that, he had hung up.
It seemed that during the call, Stefan had silently made his way next to her, his candle already lit up so she used his to light up hers.
"Who were you talking to?" He asked, and Evelyn easily picked up the curiosity in his tone of voice.
"My parents' friend. He…He still checks up on me every week, without fail, since I moved here." She explained, her tone made it clear however that she did not want any more questions regarding this argument, and luckily, Stefan picked up on that.
"Why are you here and not with Elena?" Evelyn asked after a beat of silence. Stefan sighed, looking down slightly before shaking his head.
"Things haven't been going that good. She met Damon earlier, and you can imagine how that went." He started to say, and Evelyn scowled at the mention of her cousin.
"I thought I was ready to put myself out there but…maybe I'm not." He said, glancing up to look at the comet, a frown on his face.
Evelyn stared at him for a few seconds before she wrapped her arm around his waist, hugging him.
"That's ok too, you know? You tried and then…it didn't work out, it's not your fault Stef." She mumbled, remembering Bonnie's words as the comet passed.
"I hope you're right," Stefan said, so lowly that Evelyn wasn't even sure she had heard him.

LATER IN THE NIGHT, EVELYN FOUND
herself at the Grill with Elena, Bonni,e, and Tyler. They were just joking around, that was until Jeremy walked up to them, a concerned look on his face.
"Hey, has anyone seen Vicki?" He asked.
"You're her stalker, you tell us," Tyler said, an annoyed look on his face. Evelyn shared a look with Bonnie, both girls were already dreading whatever scene they were about to create.
"I can't find her." Jeremy said, empathising with his words and his concerns for the girls, as he looked at Tyler.
"She probably found somebody else to party with." Tyler commented, "Sorry, pill pusher, I guess you've been replaced."
Evelyn let out a small gasp at his words, eyes wide as she looked at Bonnie who sent her an equally shocked look while Elena blinked rapidly, unable to fully process Tyler's words, or better, what he called her brother. Pill pusher.
"What's with the pill pusher?!" Elena asked, a puzzled look on her face as she looked at Tyler.
"Ask him." He said simply, his gaze never moving from Jeremy's.
"You wanna do this right now?!" Jeremy said, taking a threatening step toward Tyler.
Bonnie took hold of Evelyn's hand, and the firm squeeze she gave her told her that both of them were thinking the same thing.
What the fuck.
"Are you...dealing?" Elena asked, looking at her younger brother with a concerned face, but neither he nor Tyler seemed to hear what she said, or neither cared about it.
"She's never gonna go for you." Tyler said, talking about Vicki.
"She already did, over and over and over again." Jeremy said, a confident look on his face. Evelyn scrunched her face, knowing that Vicki and she were the same age, but both had to be held back a year, Vicki because her drug problems didn’t exactly make her grades go to the moon, and Evelyn because of the almost catatonic state she was in for the four months after her parent's death. But still, if she looked at Jeremy Gilbert, all she saw was a cute baby face that made her want to squeeze his cheeks, and certainly not get in a ...relationship with him.
Tyler scoffed, rolling his eyes at his words, "Yeah, right."
"You slept with Vicki Donovan?" A voice asked from beside them, and Evelyn only then noticed Caroline and Matt, looking as if the conversation was as dreadful as it was for the two girls.
"I mean, Vicki Donovan slept with you?" It seemed that Caroline shared her same thoughts because there was no way Vicki could have gone for Jeremy.
"There is no way." Tyler said, refusing to even think about that possibility.
"And I didn't even have to force her to do it," Jeremy spoke, eyes burning with hatred as he glared at Tyler. The four girls shared a worried look at his words, but Matt was faster than them and spoke,
"What the hell is he talking about man?!" Matt said, angrily looking between the two boys.
"Nothing man, just ignore him." Tyler said, and just when Jeremy opened his mouth to respond to him, Matt cut him off.
"You know what, how about you all shut up and help me find my sister?"
"We'll check the back." Bonnie said, glancing at Evelyn who nodded at her words, giving Matt a small smile.
"I'll check the square." Matt said.
Somehow, Bonnie and Evelyn managed to be the only two of their group who went to check the back, while Elena, Caroline, Tyler, and Jeremy all went in different directions to search for Vicki.
"That was crazy." Evelyn said after a minute of silence. Bonnie whipped around, an incredulous look on her face as she looked at her.
"Right?! And everything they said? Wow, just…it was crazy." Bonnie said, softly shaking her head.
"You think Jeremy was telling the truth? About Tyler…forcing Vicki?" The blonde asked, biting her lip as she scratched her arm nervously while looking around.
"I…I honestly hope not, for Vicki's sake. If that was the case and if she ever wanted to do something…Tyler's dad is the mayor, and Vicki is a drug addict, I don't see how it could exactly go in her favour ." Bonnie said, glancing at her friend with a sad expression on her face.
"You're probably right." Evelyn just mumbled before breathing out a sigh.
"I can't believe that Vicki slept with Jeremy Gilbert, baby Gilbert!" She said, glancing at Bonnie who just shrugged her shoulders.
"I mean, it's not like he's ugly, Evelyn…" Bonnie said, biting her bottom lip as she avoided eye contact.
Evelyn broke a smile, slapping her arm softly. "Bonnie, you sly, old fox." She teased, laughing when Bonnie just shook her head and flipped her off.
