𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥: one shot

Walking through the door which was closed for a reason, Shawn steps forward to the desk.

"Chief." He says.

"Captain." Holt reminds him.

"Right, Captain."

It's still taking a while for Shawn to get used to things, especially the way the nine-nine work.

"When am I going to work another case?" Shawn asks.

It's been a while since he's been out in the field. Everyone here believes his lie of being a psychic, which is how he so easily got the job. It was just like Santa Barbara.

"How about now?" Holt says, pointing to Shawn with his glasses, "Santiago and Peralta are about to inspect a bank robbery. We could use a psychic."

Shawn sighs with relief.

"You are so sexy right now." He says, then turns to leave the room.

Captain Holt waits until Shawn has left before cracking a smile.

After driving to the bank with Amy and Jake, they split up to scope out the place. Shawn walks with Jake over to an employee currently standing by himself.

"Hello, my name is Shawn Spencer. This is my partner, Duck Duck Goose."

"Hi there." Jake waves.

"We're here about the bank robbery."

"I'm sorry, who do you work for?" The man asks, looking between Shawn and Jake.

"Where are my manners?" Shawn puts his hand to his chest, "I'm the head psychic detective working for the nine-nine."

"Psychic? The police force hire phonies now?"

Shawn glances over the figure in front of him. He notices sharp wrinkles under the man's eyes, including fine white fur on the shoulders and sleeves of his shirt. Downward, Shawn notices the way the man in leaning more on his right foot, adjusting his weight every so often.

"That's a strong word, don't you think?" Shawn smiles, "If I'm not a psychic then how else would I know that you've been having restless nights caring for your small but affectionate white cat?"

The man blinks, surprised that a stranger would know that. Shawn hisses, pressing his fingers to his temple. Then, after a moment, he relaxes and looks at the man.

"Aspirin will dull the leg pain."

Jake smiles beside him, loving the way the man looks so taken back. He loves the way everyone looks when Shawn uses his talent.

"We need you to tell us everything you know about the bank robbery." Jake says.

The man sighs and explains what he saw. Shawn listens to every detail, picturing the robbery in his mind. He glances over at Jake, still not used to not seeing Gus beside him. He wonders how his best friend is doing since he disappeared.

Jake was much different to Gus. He was clumsy and foolish just like Shawn, but he wasn't reserved or as intelligent as Gus. It was weird to be working with anyone other than his best friend. Then again, it was easy to get Jake on his side.

Everyone stops to stare at the man who just waltzed into the room, explaining details of their current case. Behind him is an exhausted Charles, who was obviously trying to stop the man before he entered.

"How do you know all of this?" Holt, the Captain, asks.

"Because," Shawn sighs, "I'm a psychic."

Some officers laugh, some roll their eyes. Charles backs away with his arms up, saying that he wants nothing to do with people who can consult with the dead.

"That's not what a psychic is." Rosa says with her arms crossed.

"Prove it." Jake says, stepping away from his desk.

"You want me to prove it? Fine." Shawn meets Jake at the centre of the room.

He looks over Jake and picks up numerous details. Then he looks behind him over to where Amy stands, then around the room. Little details light up in his mind and he focuses on them.

"You're a child of many half brothers and sisters." Shawn starts, looking at Jake, "You have issues with parental figures after your father left you, which is why you're so attached to your Captain."

Shawn points over at Holt and then winces, placing his fingers on his temple.

"Your mother is a lawyer. You were an introverted child. And you're gay."

Then Shawn spins and points at Amy.

"You were the best in your classes, always having to shine out your brothers. You're a bookworm. You're allergic to dogs. And you're sleeping with him."

Shawn's finger points at Jake again. He drops his fingers at his temple and then sighs, as if energy has left him.

"Is that enough proof for you, detective?"

The room is silent. Everyone stares at Shawn with their mouths agape. Then, suddenly, Jake jumps up and looks around at his friends.

"Whaaaaaaat!" He laughs.

"That's amazing." Amy says.

"Do me next!" Charles raises his hand up in the air.

"Shawn?" Jake asks, looking him up and down.

"Hmm?" Shawn turns his head and notices that the man being questioned has left, "Oh, look at me zoning out. I shouldn't have stayed up watching Gilmore Girls."

Shawn pats Jake on the back and they both walk into the bank, glancing over at everything in sight. In the middle of the room stands Amy who is talking with a citizen.

"He was tall, had brown hair." They explain.

Amy nods and writes down the details on her notepad.

"Was he also skinny, like a pencil?" Shawn asks, walking over to them.

The citizen looks surprised, "Yes, he was."

"Hi, I'm Shawn Spencer. The head psychic detective at the nine-nine."

He shakes their hand as they merely smile.

"I'm Wendy."

"You have the name of one of my favorite redheads." Shawn smiles.

He and Jake listen in to what Wendy says and then listen to what Amy has found out so far. As they're talking, Shawn notices scratch marks on the ground by a door further up. He squints his eyes and then walks over to the marking, seeing that more marks lead to behind the counter.

"Sounds like a simple robbery. Suspects entered the bank and stole the money, then they left before the authorities were notified." Amy explains.

Shawn tilts his head as he sees that the markings direct him to a panel underneath the counter. He pushes it open and raises his eyebrows at what he sees.

"Wasn't a simple bank robbery." He shouts.

Amy and Jake turn to where he is kneeling behind the counter. Shawn grabs the object and holds it up for everyone to see.

"Looks like our robbers had a more aggressive motive."

Amy walks over and takes the gun from Shawn's hand.

"It could be anyone's." She says, "We'll have to dust for prints."

"No one reported any gunshots." Jake says.

Shawn notices more scratch marks over by one of the windows which has be broken. Outside, the markings lead over to a pick-up truck. Shawn notices how fabric has been caught in the trunk door.

He sighs when he realizes what he's noticed, then he presses his fingers to his temple.

"I'm sensing something else. Someone else." He says.

"Who?" Amy asks.

Suddenly, Shawn raises his hand in the air. He gasps and lets his hand lead him over to the window, mimicking that he is braking the glass. He pushes air out of his mouth for sound effects, then gasps once more as he jumps out through the window.

Amy and Jake run after him, after Jake comments on how much he loves when Shawn goes into his psychic trances, then follow him over to the pick-up truck. Shawn slaps his hand near the trunk, then slides it on it properly as if his hand was stuck. Then he moves away, as if something pushed him.

"In there!" He says, pretending to be out of breath.

Amy opens the trunk to see something wrapped in a blanket. She pulls it back and gasps, noticing the dead body. Shawn pretends to be shocked, then looks over at Jake.

"Who is he?" Jake asks.

Shawn presses his fingers to his temple once more.

"I'm afraid he was the bank manager." Shawn sighs.

Amy removes more of the blanket from around the dead body and sees the name tag on the man's coat.

"He's right." She says.

"Wow, this just got so much cooler!" Jake smiles.

Amy shoots him a look.

"Not cool in the way that murder is cool." Jake stutters, "I mean... oh no."

"Good job, Shawn." Amy grins.

"Good work, Mr Spencer." The Chief says, crossing her arms.

Shawn shrugs in modesty, looking over at his best friend who is currently rolling his eyes. The Chief enters the police department as he and Gus begin to walk away.

"What's with you?" Shawn asks.

"You, Shawn." Gus says, "You always take the credit. I was the one who figured out the receipts."

"And what an amazing job you did. But you're my partner, Gus. The pretty one."

Gus clicks his tongue with an annoyed facial expression.

"Oh come on, Gus. Don't be the second wrapper on a Reese's cup." Shawn says.

Gus looks ahead again, earning a sigh from Shawn.

"Let's go get some tacos." He says.

"You know that's right." Gus smiles, "But you're paying this time."

"Gus, you know that I--"

"Suck it, Shawn."

"You suck it!"

After snapping out of his memory, Shawn and the others brought over the man they questioned before to identify the body in the trunk.

"Yes, that's him." He says, a slight quiver in his voice.

"Did you see anyone approach him before the robbery took place?" Shawn asks.

"No, no one."

"Do you have security cameras?"

"Yes."

"I'm going to need to see those tapes."

The man takes Amy, Jake, and Shawn back into the bank and into the security office. It's small so everyone squishes up together.

"Sorry, we only have two people in here at a time." The man says.

"It's quite alright. But I will need to see everyone's hands. Including yours, Jake." Shawn says.

Amy looks over at Shawn and then chuckles to herself. The man sets up the monitors and plays back the footage of the bank robbery. The screens show what happens, and Shawn finds a particular person very interesting.

"I'm sorry there's not much else I can do for you." The man says, after everyone has left the room.

"You did your best." Shawn says, putting his hand on the man's shoulder.

He looks uncomfortable so Shawn steps away, then looks over at Jake and Amy.

"I guess we're going to have to do some digging." Amy says.

Jake nods, but Shawn stops them.

"I don't think so, detective. All we need to know is up here." Shawn points to his head, "And... in here." He points to his stomach, "But mostly in here."

Finishing by pointing at his head again, Amy crosses her arms.

"Did you get a psychic reading?" She asks.

"No, I don't like reading." Shawn says, "I got a vision."

"A vision?" Jake's face lights up.

"Yes. And it showed me that we're looking for the one person we've already met."

"Really? Who?"

"Wendy."

As always, Amy and Jake make certain that Wendy is the person to go after. Back in Santa Barbara, everyone else followed Shawn when he had a hunch. Here, everyone takes things one step at a time.

After they agree, all of them head over to Amy's car.

"Shotgun!" Shawn shouts.

"Come on!" Jake whines.

"Jake, don't be the sequel to the Mummy."

Shawn smiles and then gets into the car, along with Amy and Jake.

Even though this place is different, at least Shawn knows that he'll always be the same. And besides, he's still doing work that he loves.

Shawn could get used to the nine-nine.
